4,438, but we're winning, are and have been and will win the war!
Cheetos Brigade@1, What are we winning? The Iraqis live as prisoners in walled off sections in Bagdad. There is barely any political reconciliation. This war is a traverty. I want our troops home now!
not to get too heavy but the "In Memoriam" is somewhat
emotional for me...they keep us at a distance from the realities/tragedies of these conflicts....it's real

I think PBS has by far the best segment to show respect for the fallen troops. It really is sad watching all causalities that they put out there, its usually either a very young men, 18/19/20 or a man around 35 who you can only suspect has a young family back home. I think if outlets were required to show pictures like that this war would have ended 4 years, $600 Billion, 3,000 troops, and 100,000 Iraqi's ago.
Just a few moments ago I finished watching Randy Pausch "last lecture". First time I saw it and boy, was that inspiring. This man only saw the sunny side of life dispite the heartship he was facing and the difficult road ahead to the inevitable. A true inspiration. Where are the people like him? There must be more of these giants outhere!
Heartfelt feelings to those close to him, especially his wife Jai and his three young children.
I highly recommend you, no, I urge you to watch this last lecture for the full duration of it's one hour and 16 minutes. And see how you can also reach your childhood dreams. He was only but nevertheless he fulfilled them all!

(Correction. We should have edit buttons...)
He was only 47 but nevertheless he fulfilled them all!
Randy Pausch was a great man. I admired him. Think of what he could have accomplished.
Think of what the servicemen could have accomplished.

Win or lose this war is for big oil based on lies told by 2 oil men in the White House who used the greatest terrorist attack on America as an excuse to go after a country that had nothing to do with it. Win or lose those 4,500 and counting Americans and countless of Iraqi civilians died for a gang of war mongering war profiteers. American oil companies and companies friendly to the murderous Bush regime are in Iraq getting no bid government at tax payer expense on top of the half trillion and counting we the taxpayer has paid for the war while the war profiteers, including Bush and Cheney, rake in the profits. Send them to the Hague to stand trial for war crimes and murder. Stop this war and use our tax dollars to rebuild America's infrastructure instead of Iraq's for big oil.
@ P.D. and Ruthless, I hope you weren't really taking that comment seriously. Have you not heard McCain confuse verb tenses while claiming we're winning the war? I guess irony is lost among some people
What have we won? Jesus, the more I hear from the right-wingers about how the surge is working, I want to scream! First, we have to stay because of the violence, Now, we cant leave because the violence is down. WTF? I cant wait for November! I want Bush and his criminal cabal out!
Sorry Cheetos, I'm not so thin skinned, but after 8 years of Bush I have lost in faith in many of my fellow Americans. I can't believe how many people have no idea to what is happening in their own country.
P.D. @ 11:
Haven't you heard? We won record profits for Big Oil and $4/gallon at the pump.
Ruthless, You are right of course, but try telling that to the ignorant Americans who still haven't decided on who to vote for. You know, the ones who don't read the papers or get their news from Faux News and think they are informed.
P.D. @ 12:
I'm right there with you. After all the damage the GOP has done to this country there should be a 20% spread. at least, between Obama and McSame. Instead it's around 5%. Roughly half the country are mouth breathing morons and religious zealots who will bring this country down while claiming to saving it from the libruls. The conservatives are doing what Al Queda tried and failed to do which was to bring down America. The #1 threat to the republic are the Republicans.
Almost 4500 dead US soldiers because of this travesty. I read somewhere recently that at least 4000 have deserted the military. These are the real people 'on the ground' that this administration should listen to.
My mother is one of those so-called bornagainers who swore the end of the world would come during Y2K. Then of course after the 2006 elections, she and my stepfather claimed it would be the Armeggedon. Now if Obama wins, CHAOS! They spend so much time worring about the end of the world, than trying to save it.
Cheetos Brigade @ 1:
great now maby we can get back to two dollars a gallon gas! and its on to afganistan !
Ruthless People @ 9:
And the look on Bush's face when told of the terrorist attacks deciphers as: "Wow, they weren't kidding. I never thought it would be this big. Poppy better tell me what to do."
Ruthless People @ 15:
POLLS LIE.
If 22 people had been killed in Iraq and Afghanistan, where's this surge success Obama's supposed to apologize for?
Whitehouse @ 5:
We are the change we have been waiting for! We are the people like him! We are the giants we are wishing there were more of!

Your damn right its emotional to see all those young soldiers on that screen that will never get to see their children grow, or get married, or see their parents and siblings. I still think about the stone with the names of Viet Nam Vets and what a waist of lives. God bless these soldiers and their families who give up the most priced possessions, their loved ones. We need to get our troops out of Iraq.
