Oh, and why polls are totally full of shit!

I believe that 40% as much as I believe I will wake up tomorrow and find GWB was a bad dream a la Dallas.

I would so love to see McCain as a guest on Red State Update. They should seriously ask, and who knows? He might consider it a good idea.

Mukasey Calls On Congress to Subvert Constitution

Why does this stuff always seem to come out on a Friday afternoon…

OpEdNews and ACLU:

Attorney General Wants New Declaration of War Allowing Indefinite Detention and Concealment of Torture

In an enormous executive branch power grab, Attorney General Michael Mukasey called on Congress today to authorize indefinite detention through a new declaration of armed conflict. Mukasey also proposed that Congress subvert the right of habeas corpus with a new scheme of procedures that will hide the Bush administration’s past wrongdoing - an action that would undermine the constitutional guarantee of due process and conceal systematic torture and abuse of detainees.

I totally agree with Ms. Joanne about polls. Here's another consideration: I am assuming most of these polls were made by phone. How many 20 and 30 year olds have land line phones? Yet these are the people who are most likely to vote for Obama. I doubt if these younger voters are being heavily polled.

I'd like to make another point, not about polls: When I was in high school, every week we watched a new program called, "All in the Family". I told everyone I knew that my father gave lessons to Archie Bunker. When they met my dad, they believed it! Archie was the personification of thousands of real people like my dad. Well, it's now 2008, and my dad is 80 years old, and guess who he's voting for? Yep, Archie is voting for the black guy. McCain, you're lost.

Okay I watched the video now I feel like I need a shower. Is that a regular tv show or net site or what? I can't understand half of what they say and I grew up in the south.

As to comment number six I read a much longer article about that this morning and I believe it was in the comments of one of their open thread posts. The entire article was written mostly by ACLU lawyers so the you might be able to catch it in full on their site.

Seeing what they are wanting to do is frightening as hell. If congress goes along with this, we better all be sure we know where our passports are located or apply for one if you have none yet.

P.D.'s picture

I just can't wait for Bush to leave. His reign has been one long nightmare. Everything is corrupted, from the DOJ to the constitution. I just can't beleieve McCain is up so much in the polls. If McCain gets in and continues Bush's policies, were doomed.

It goes beyond actual polling. The article is about how the corporate media whores are selecting differing data using sometimes polls which are several months old - to make their point. When McCain is ahead, they use current polls. When Obama is ahead, they use old polls.

(it's quite long) and VERY, VERY interesting. It's not just the poll data, but the parsing. It's total horseshit! It's all horserace and drama.

Oh my gawd! The arrogance!

I have the full transcript of his July 21st AEI remarks. Haven't read it in detail, but basically he's asking Congress to preemptively usurp the judicial function to avoid a putative tangle of contradictory inferior courts' rulings. This is more of the Bu'ush overall "Melt Clock" strategy, because, Congress could enact a law with unconstitutional provisions (like the MCA clearly has), but unless/until SCOTUS negates them, they stay on the books and provide cover. MCA challenges are still winding their way to SCOTUS (and they may decline to hear them).

Mukasey could simply ask for expedited SCOTUS review of a chosen case to settle the issue definitely, but, of course, that's not what he wants.

Republican's pull these stunts on Friday afternoons deliberately. This the day before the weekend. People are tired and they want to go home, so some criminally minded scum will try to have something passed at the last minute, hoping that no one will know what they are doing, or will be too tired to care.

Also, if it happens right before the weekend, there will three whole days before anyone really takes a look at what they've done. A lot can happen in three days, so NeoCon's will hope that whatever nefarious acts they've committed will be forgotten, or the uproar will have died down.

Same here! My army veteran father was a racist and taught us that the black race was ruining the world. At 84, he is a completely different man than he was back then . He is proudly sporting an Obama sticker on his SUV and is no longer registered as a Republican. Our whole family, grandkids included, are voting for Obama and most are former Republicans. Crazy world, but at least we are waking up the crimes of this administration and those (like McCain) that want to continue to repeat them.

Check out Glenn Greenwald's Vital Unresolved Anthrax Questions and ABC News (from Salon but republished at Common Dreams - no site pass needed).

ABC News repeatedly quoted three or four "unnamed sources" that the anthrax attacks had to be coming from Iraq because bentonite had been found in the anthrax - a blatant lie, but extremely effective in whooping up the post 9-11 hysteria that led to the invasion of Iraq.

Greenwald has unsuccessfully attempted to hold ABC responsible, asking that they reveal these "sources" - obvious false-flag collaborators.

It is necessary for the MSM to keep the polls close, no matter what. It's Mccain's only hope. That if many murkins see that Mccain is close, they will think it is OK to vote for him because of his "strong support". Then, when the corportatists steal the election it won't look like such a blatant lie. The talking heads gladly toe the line because it keeps them in their multi million dollar jobs. Who cares if it's accurate?

Hey Folks!

In two weeks, I’ll be doing a rare above ground performance at DemocracyFest in Arlington VA, and I’ve been scheduled to sing just prior to the Keynote address by Howard Dean. Quite an honor bestowed on this Subway Serenade by the Deaniacs.

More importantly, I’ll be giving informal demonstrations of The Heart Tuner Cardiofeedback system that I’ve been experimenting with over the past year. I’ll be showing folks how to consciously create ascending heart waves by directing and focusing the heart’s electrical charge. I will show how it is possible for two hearts to match or “Phase Lock” both the harmonic frequencies and amplitudes of their hearts at the same time, and the possibility of connecting hearts over the internet in a quantifiable, highly concentrated global meditation.

DemocracyFest is always a blast, and this year is going to be extra special. So get your tickets today and come have a great time.

Hope to see you there.
