The sad fact is the American population, in general, is stupid. Thirty percent can even find the USA on a world map, 63 percent can't find Iraq. How could any person in this country listen to all the lies, deceptions, smears, propaganda , not to mention the actual agenda of McEvil, and say 'yes, we want to vote for this ?' .. yes, we want to make the rich , richer and ourselves more poor, yes, we want the corporations to pay even less taxes, yes, we want a more wars , yes, we want to continue to have the world hate us, yes, we want more destruction of the environment, yes, we want someone who is totally unprepared to be the president as the vice-president, yes, we want four more years of Bush, etc, etc, etc ... HOW COULD ANY PERSON WITH A PULSE WANT TO VOTE FOR THIS ? AND YET MILLIONS OF AMERICANS DO. AND THAT ISN'T STUPID ?
Uh, Baracks ridiculous statement is stupid in itself. It's a losing narrative: " they think you're stupid". The truly stupid- and that accounts for a majority of the voting population- simply do not know they are stupid, thus it just sounds insulting. And it wont work. Say hello to president Mc Cain. Obama is just another Democrat who hasnt a clue how to win an election. Even one against the weakest opponents in modern history.
Why are all the polls so close? Why are Americans so dumb?
What is it about McCain that they see, that I do not?
The polls are "so close" because most polls fail to adequately represent progressive demographics. For example, phone polls that only call land lines tend to miss voters under the age of 30.
When Barry speaks, it feels as if im listening to a motivational speaker, and not a politician, which i must say is a little unnerving. Sure, he's an exceptional speaker, but i still wouldn't buy a used car from him.. You see, I prefer my politicians to be bumbling idiots - their easier to probe.. Besides, 'change', and 'hope' are merely abstractions. Why doesn't he just say 'more Federal power', and 'less individual freedom', and just get right down to the point? Final thought: "Beware the tyranny of good intentions."
I think in a complex, changing world more and more people want to be told what to do and think. Which also explains the rise in evangelicals. Democrats get out and ask people to think about the issues. Republicans tell people they're going to take care of them as long as they fall in line.
NCLB makes it even worse and memorization is emphasized and critical thinking has very little time in the curriculum.
I see the church related groups are emailing voter registration information again.
Hey, "they" know you/we elected the Chimp twice, or stood by while they stole the 'election' twice, at any rate... They don't think we're stupid. They have the evidence, and not only of stupidity, but also of cowardice and indolence...

Why do trolls insist on leaving their droppings everywhere?
[Because they have no manners or sense of pride-Sitemonitor]
Obama is right, McCain/Palin do think we're stupid. In fact, the entire Reppug Party thinks were stupid. And why shouldn't they? A**holes vote for them all the time. Whether it's a question of patriotism or religion, the sheeple fall for it everytime. Buck up though. The Countrys demographics are changing. White people will be the minority in just a couple of decades. That is what my father and my mothers right-wing friends are terrified about. They are infuriated I'm a Democrat, but as I pointed out. Repugs have made things so hard for the average family, people can't afford to have more than two kids(If they can afford them at all). Educat them or have basic Medical Care. So in essence, Repugs should blame themselves.

Whoever we are
Wherever we're from
We shoulda noticed by now
Our behavior is DUMB ...
And if our chances
Expect to improve
It's gonna take a lot more
Than tryin' to remove
The other race
Or the other whatever
From the face
Of the planet altogether ...
They call it THE EARTH
Which is a dumb kinda name
But they named it right
'Cause we behave the same...
We are dumb all over
Dumb all over,
Yes we are
Dumb all over,
Near'n far
Dumb all over
Black 'n white
People, we is not wrapped tight.
"Her experience is as mayor of a city with a population of about 5,000 (at the time), and less than 2 years as governor of a state with about 670,000 residents. During her mayoral administration most of the actual work of running this small city was turned over to an administrator. She had been pushed to hire this administrator by party power-brokers after she had gotten herself into some trouble over precipitous firings which had given rise to a recall campaign."
MissKitty@11: Yeah, I agree. Just look back at 2000 and 2004 and look who
"We The People" have elected into almost all offices in D.C. I do believe that
a large percentage of the American public is "stupid"...and unfortunately, that
is not going to change. We just need to have more smarter than stupid people
voting come November.

Also, please be an agent of the end of personality politics.
The cult of personality is a no-win game for democrats, period.
If we play that game, we lose.
Why? Because the cult of personality depends on identity politics, and no one is better at manipulating this than republicans vis-a-vis stupid people and white people (and very often alas, one in the same).
We need to shift the paradigm and hold on with a vice grip to the issues.
That's where we are clearly and unquestionably in favor.
Me, I am sick and tired of this election being about Obama, or even McCain.
This election is about POLICIES.
And, for all those Dems that "just aren't sure about Obama yet", well, stop it!!
Stop making it about your TASTE and your PERCEPTION, when you damn well know that these vainglorious exercises of yours could cost us the election, keep the republicans in power, and act to keep human rights and peace from advancing!
It's about POLICY,
It's about the issues, philosophy, ideology, party, and government, It's not about Obama.
Why are all the polls so close? Why are Americans so dumb?
What is it about McCain that they see, that I do not?
There's only one reason why the candidate for Preznint of the party mostly not--or at least, somewhat less--responsible for the catastrophic clusterfuck that has been the last 8 years nascent fascism, imperialism, and autocracy should be tied with or even behind the candidate of the Party that HAS been mostly responsible for ALL the clusterfucks of the last 8 years.
It's gotta be the candidate himself.
So, what is it about that candidate which might turn what should be a 20-point rout into a race that's gonna be close enough to steal?
Gee, I dunno...Ummmmm Help me out here.... he's ummmmmm
Obama's people and Democratic party officials can stay with issues, be polite and play the nice game.

The polls are close because most people either a) will not talk to pollsters or b) don't answer the phone when pollsters call c) have caller screening for callers that will not identify their numbers or d) have cell phones and no land line.
It takes hundreds of calls to obtain one response. Think about that? How representative is that.
If the polls do reflect Americans views, then most of them either didn't see the jobloss report on Friday or they think that the word Maverick means Messiah.
They buy the "official" story, or just don't give a fuck, about Pearl Harbor, JFK, the Tonkin Gulf incident, MLK, RFK, Watergate, Iran-Contra, 9-11, etc.
Why would they care about McCain vs. Obama?
For most Americans (as they see it), it just doesn't matter.
money affects people, ask a rank and file Republiocan or middle of the road types, about their 401Ks, their forclosed homes and the shite state of the US economy and high gas prices.
DO they want four more years of McBushco, and things to get even worse.
Or Obama and the Democrats to change things, make a difference and a fair level playing field.
Easy choice, more of the same (or worse), or a better future.

I've always wondered why there are a group of folks out there who won't see the fine print as it is. Why are they so myopic that they actually believe Palin and McCain are benign people is beyond me. When the articles came out about both of them (and that's for years--when it has to do with McCain), it was easy to see that these people were snake oil salespeople of the highest degree.
I don't want to say that the entire American populace is stupid. I just think that there are other issues at stake here: racism, fear, intolerance and the dread of change.
That's why, this has to be an election of conscience.
No one in good conscience would want Palin and McCain in the driver's seat because of the repercussions that might happen in the future.
But it is sad that there are folks that don't even see that far in their daily lives. Instead, they just want to have Van Halen's "Hot for Teacher" playing in their heads while Palin speaks on camera.
People need to wake up. :(
OTOH.....
I'm glad that Mr. Obama is hitting harder. But he has to do a little bit more in order to fully bite the bullet and take the gloves off. I know it is not an easy task to sound presidential while doing a beatdown on the Repubicans, but he can't let them pigeon-hole as being weak.
It is not about McCain...He will just be the one they put in so they can continue they meaning neocons, far right pushing to get the SC totally far right...and in addition to equal pay already being ruled against for women Roe will be gone, even though the majority of Americans believe in the right of choice.
Makes no diff to them.. They have used Bush and now they want McCain ..he gave in to the far right with his V.P. pick.
Why are all the polls so close? Why are Americans so dumb?
What is it about McCain that they see, that I do not?
The polls are "so close" because most polls fail to adequately represent progressive demographics. For example, phone polls that only call land lines tend to miss voters under the age of 30.
This is done by polling "registered voters", i.e. "registered" and have "voted". It leaves out soooo many potential voters any poll now isn't worth looking at. So just chill a bit. Yeah, it shouldn't (in out minds) be even remotely close. But it still isn't as close as it looks. The polls tend to be financed by businesses (conservative). 539.com is a bit better than some of the others, but still, look for biases.
Something else. You have to be able to TRY to understand the conservative mind. Its not always a single mindset, it a number of reasons: fear of change (or sadly, "others"), protection of ones existing privileges, upbringing, support by other conservatives (as a Democrat, do you constantly hard on others about "supporting the party", probably not, they do), some religions and all of their limits, protecting their rights (some really do like guns and fear their loss of actual guns or loss of hunting/killing rights), and lots more. So don't try to pigeonhole, you'll go crazy. O.K the white thing, its there, no doubt, you saw the convention. They are becoming less relevant as a group and they know it, desperate maybe.
So, chill, keep sending in money, like maybe a buck word you take the time to write. Think of it as earning your rights back.
For the VP debate, I think Biden will manage to be able to attack Palin effectively by using Barack's most recent line about "you can't just make stuff up." If everyone would try unplugging their TVs for a year or so, and read things instead, they might remember how to do critical thinking for themselves. They might even find it stimulating.
Decades of excessive TV viewing has reprogrammed our brains into short attention span sound bite processors. Read to your kids a lot when they are young, to show them the joys of using their own minds and imaginations, instead of having mindless drivel packaged in glossy graphics bombard them all day, turning them into passive receptacles of misinformation. I believe it's our only hope left.

I love most Americans, well, at least I tolerate them. But frankly, too many ARE stupid, shallow, uninformed, self centered and think with that part of the brain that is rarely used. If half of this country can not recall what has happened to America in the last 8 years or if it somehow just doesn't matter; Or if they can not control their redneck racist mindset, the country is going to get what half the country deserves = Tyranny and MORE oppression coupled with the completion of the destruction of America. Consider learning Russian and Chinese if we get railroaded into McCain/Palin.
Not to worry - Ms. Palin is going to Washington and will have things ship shape in no time!
ya... she's on track to support the religious speaking-in-tongues types who support the belief that alaska is a safe zone for when they bring on armaggedon...
of course, the repubs think the americans are stupid. that's why they chose caribou barbie. that's why the dont want to spend on education. if people wisen up, that'll be the end of them.

We as Americans are stupid (most of us). We see labels, conservative, neocon, christian, liberal, progressive. The only minds that can be changed are the independents. WE ALL, need to look past labels and vote on the issues. Who knows, I just might vote for a Republican if I knew where they stood on the issues. I've cast many of votes throughout my years, and voted for more than one party. I can safely say, there is maybe one or two Republicans that I would cast my vote for this time around. They're all the same. They are Bush.

the msm and the repubs know that a large percentage of americans are stupid. stupid people can be easily manipulated and are very paranoid. they have convinced those morons that the greatest threat to them islamic terrorists. they have manipulated these idiots into thinking that if the dems hold office airplanes will be flying into buildings every damn day. but never saying in reality when we were attacked the repups were in charge. these idiots are so ignorant that even though the having trouble making ends meet, are losing their health insurance, and even their homes, losing the kids college savings it doesn't matter because we are protecting you even though you have a better chance of a meteor hitting your house than being a victim of terrorism.
just a generic comment on my observations for what seems a predominate democratic group that participates online in this blog... it's one thing to say americans are dumb enough to buy the rethuglican message... but, you guys are very well aware that a number of rethugs have come to this blog for the sole purpose of stirring up shit....
it's quite clear to me that democratic supporters are far more intelligent and far more equipped with the facts to be able to discern the difference between the dems' heartfelt conviction and the rethug brand of bs...
so... i ask (the generic) you this question.... why are you complaining about american stupidity within this incestuous environment when what is really needed is to attack the rethugs on their own home territories... i would suggest you go to rethug blogs and do as biden has said when quoting jefferson, "i'm not going to give them hell, i'm going to tell the truth and they're going to think it's hell"
i certainly enjoy this blog and i fully support a democratic ticket... but, most of my energy is going right to the heart of the beast and hammering home my arguments and smacking down the fallacious bullshit that they indulge in.... and if you don't believe me... check out usenut.... i've been concentrating much of my energy on the georgian newsgroup: atl.general as well as other republican newsgroups such as alt.politics.republican, alt.politics.usa
and the main reason i do this is because the old guard of curmudgeons is the dominant demographic on these groups...
i suggest that if you truly want to win this election... you go right at them directly because on this blog, you are only preaching to the choir....

British schools and colleges tend to teach history, I dont think US school do much.
They think Americans are stupid because they are. Stop for a moment to ponder the fact that a forward-thinking, experienced, rationale thinker like Gore, and another experienced, war-tested veteran like Kerry, were rejected by a populace who honestly believed that the buffoon in office today was a better choice. And the results speak for themselves.

It's over ! It's all over folks. McCain is the next president. Palin is the next VP. Obama doesn't have a chance anymore. Palin kicks ass. KICKS ASS ! She has top notch public speaking skills. SHE IS FLAWLESS !! Vocal skills, body language ,looks !! SHE IS UNBEATABLE. She is making out Obama to be a corrupt loser and it's working !!!!!!! It's TOTALLY WORKING !!!!!!!!!! The republican party has control of the media. It's obvious that Obama and Biden have no plan how to make a comeback. They are losers (in this election). They are always defending themselves. They are ALWAYS praising and complimenting Palin and McCain. It's constant. On Sept. 11th - Obama (the idiot who supports immunity for the telecoms that violated FISA, the idiot who admitted on National Television that the SURGE WORKED , the idiot that publically REGRETS what he said in that Church interview in which McCain cheated) the idiot Obama will go to Ground Zero in N.Y. where the WTC was in honor of the victims of Cheney's 9/11/2001 False Flag Op. And how will Americans perceive it .They'll perceive it as McCain allowed Obama to be with him at Ground Zero. McCain allowed Obama to honor the 9/11 victims with him. Obama had the privelidge of being at the memorial service of the victims of 9/11. Ron Paul or Dennis Kucinich could have improved the U.S. Obama wouldn't help much. But anyway Palin is too good. Americans will vote for the Nazi Schwarzeneggar after they ammend the constitution so that he can become president. It's the United States of America. It's all about looks and star power.

The facts are that most republican are stupid. Their party understands that. Why do you think they created fox? It's for idiots, designed from the bottom up to appeal to the moronic reich!
Hey, "they" know you/we elected the Chimp twice, or stood by while they stole the 'election' twice, at any rate... They don't think we're stupid. They have the evidence, and not only of stupidity, but also of cowardice and indolence...
And, despite my (troubled) support for him, Barack was against passing the FISA amendment before he was for it. So, going down the path of that cheap dissing-Kerry laugh line carries its own risk."
inept analogy. obama never lied about fisa and does not hinge his image on it. palin uses her opposition to the bridge to nowhere as prime example of her maverick/reformer persona. she only opposed it when congress made an issue of it, THEN she was against it. saying that she said "thanks but no thanks" to congress is an outright lie.
We aren't stupid... and this is why...people are FINALLY trying to find out more information about Obama... there are millions of Independents such as myself that have researched.. listened (for 19 months).. and the word is spreading....
The smoke is clearing... people are finally listening.. and they CAN SEE THE LIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lack of Experience
• 143 days in the United States Senate
• No Foreign policy experience
• No Executive experience (hasn’t run a business, town, or state, nothing, nada)
• Community organizing (going door to door to register voters for ACORN)
Has NEVER stood his ground when it wasn’t politically expedient.
• Obama gave an Anti-war speech to gain the support of the big money people in Chicago
Poor Record
• Voted “present” 129 times in Senate, not taking a stand on controversial issues. (indecisive)
• Worked to remove asbestos with limited success, still remains uncompleted to this day.
• Claims credit for welfare reform in Chicago that helped to put steel workers back to work, but it was a Republican bill that President Bill Clinton signed into law and that Obama voted against!
• Asked for a million dollar earmark for his wife’s employer (she received a $200,000 raise)
• Secured 100’s of millions of dollars in earmarks for private developers like Rezko resulting in failed housing projects that were rat infested, no electricity, sewerage and crime ridden, and uninhabitable forcing the government to take them over. (boston globe grim beginnings link)
• Voted in the state senate for gun control and refused to crack down on gangs. Obama helped create the situations where crime in 2008 escalated to about 30 shootings in a week requiring a special task force to be formed to stem the violence in the streets.
• Chairman of the Foreign Relations subcommittee on European affairs, which he has neglected, not having once held a meeting. Countries like Georgia were his responsibility.
• Most liberal Democratic voting record. Voted 97% of the time with his party.
Broken campaign promises
• Fisa (fourth amendment rights)
• Public campaign financing
• Undivided Jerusalem
Highly questionable religious connections
• Former pastor Rev. Wright “God D*mn America! America caused 9/11 and AIDs.
• Black Liberation Theology (black supremacy)
Connections to corrupt politicians, and Anti-American Organizations
• William Ayers – Terrorist - Bombed NY police station, Pentagon, Capital building in 70,71,72. People died. (He got off on technicality caused by FBI procedural mistake)
• Tony Rezko – Arab developer convicted in Chicago for fraud, money laundering and bribes of government officials. Rezko helped Obama find his Chicago Mansion and bought a piece of the property through his wife, whom subsequently sold a piece back to Obama.
Best selling books about Obama
• “The Obama Nation” by Jerome Corsi (Some minor factual mistakes but theme is credible)
• “The Case Against Obama “ by David Freddoso (Very revealing about Chicago background)
Impending Economic disasters
• Increase in capital gains tax – 28% targets most people’s largest asset, the sale of their house. Retirement plans, and funding for college are hurt when you stand to lose more money than the cost of a college education. His $500 or $1,000 tax credit called a “tax cut for 95% of the people” is a “gimmick” to get your vote so he can fleece you out of your life’s work?
• Doubling foreign aid to other countries. Doubling our commitment to funding the U.N.
Campaign Gaffes
• Said he campaigned in 57 states, thought for a moment, and said he was going on to the 58th state
• Called the Great Lakes, the Great Lake of Oregon??
• Confused Iraq with Iran when talking to General Petreaus.
• Referenced using a “pistol” to go duck hunting.
• Captured in a photo not saluting the flag with his hand over his heart while everyone else was.
• “Israel is a friend of Israel”. “His banking committee” – but he isn’t on the banking committee.
• Obama slips in ABC interview and says “My muslim faith”
http://therealbarackobama.wordpress.com/2008/09/07/oopsies-my-muslim-faith”
Failure to support American “wounded” soldiers in Germany
• On his excellent adventure, European tour, Senator Obama was scheduled to visit our “wounded soldiers” in Germany. After Obama was told that he could not bring cameras or his campaign manager inside with him and he would just be visiting officially as a senator, he decided not to visit our “wounded soldiers”. He went to workout at the Ritz Carlton gym instead. His lame excuses were not supported by the Pentagon.
Accomplishments raise doubts
• Highlights that he worked “across the aisle” on Nuclear Proliferation legislation with Republican Senator Lugar. Senator. However, in an interview, Senator Lugar said the Obama had “overstated his involvement”. He explained that Obama had expressed an interest in joining his committee (which makes him a co-sponsor) shortly before the bill was introduced, and recalled that he had attended one or possibly two meetings. (It looks nice on his resume, but hardly qualifies as “working across the aisle on a controversial issue” when consensus was against the spread of nuclear weapons around the world

There's lots of talk here why the repubs (I love "Caribou Barbie") are so bad.
Let's have 5 good, defensible reasons why Obama is better...no negatives, please.
1: Not a Republican
2: Not a Republican
3: Not a Republican
4: Not a Republican
5: Not a Republican
or
Not a Republican
Hes a team player, Obama listens and takes peoples ideas onboard.
Constitutional lawyer, therefore somebody who believes in the thing.
Civil and human rights, equality for all.
He believes in educating the children for the future.
Why are all the polls so close? Why are Americans so dumb?
What is it about McCain that they see, that I do not?
The Narrative Flood
I have noted this once before, but it might work if I note it three times:The Media is Conservative, The Media is Conservative, The Media is Conservative. Since the success of Fox News, MSNBC and CNN have all leaned to the right when delivering the news. This affects what polls they reference, who they bring on their shows, and, most of all, what they try to pass off as fact. Since the Republican convention, there has been a strong narrative John McCain, with the help of Super Palin, has caught up to and pass Barack Obama.
Maybe I am blind, but I don't see how in the hell the Republican convention was more exciting then the Democratic convention. At best, I could barely stay awake to watch the dull list of speakers coming out of their convention. As a black person, I could not find anyone in the convention my color so it was very hard to get a "fit in" feeling. However, when you have three major news agencies running a conservative narrative Sarah Palin has galvanized their Party, it is easy to get the impression Obama is loosing ground.
The Palin Affect
Sarah Palin is one step away from total collapse of her political career. This lady has made it known she plans to have little to do with the press. If you take into account all that is being said about her, you would not go before a camera either. Maybe all the things they say are not true, but I willing to bet a lot of it is. Today, they were talking about her religious believe to speak in tongs.
The Palin Affect is media created, media supported and very overstated. Most everyone I talk to think this lady is a joke. The women think about her 4 month old Down Syndrome child at home being taken care of by a nanny or their oldest daughter. That scenario does not advance a positive picture of a devoted Mother because she is on the trail bashing Obama. I ask: where would you be with a four month old baby? Man or women. And speaking of her oldest daughter, I get an image of a true "shotgun" wedding. The would be husband looks like a baby. Forget about running for VP; get your house in order. That is the theme Obama should be using when the Palin question is asked.
Don't know whether you're kidding, but agree totally with the first 75% of what you say.
I disagree, Repug neocons, a lot of them are former marxists.
And the 'to each their own' pretty much sums up the thievery of Republicanism.
They want it all because they deserve it, everybody else doesnt deserve squat.
marxist almost to a tee.
From each according to his ability; to each according to his need? is that what you're talking about?
you have obviously never read a word of Marx. We can return to this conversation after you have perused Kapital a time or two...
I think the GOP have recognized that the average American is stupid and they have and can continue to double down on the dumb-down. Just look at how they have played with Americans in the last week. McCain, a not very bright man, has outsmarted most Americans with picking a "Bushetscki", Palin, as his running mate. Instead of seeing her as the extreme right wing ideologue that she is her smile and homey-ness trump American brains. Now, after 8 years of being kicked in the ass by Bush you have given his star pupil, McSame, a tie or slight lead in the presidential polls! To say that the majority of Americans are stupid is being kind.
Klunk@62: Sorry, your suggestion is like asking me to watch Faux Noise

blogging websites. I can throw up only so many times on my keyboard and
clean the puke up, consequenlty I decline, but appreciate those of you who

and the critical thing between D forums and R forums is...
You get banned PDQ somewhere like FR or RS, for speaking outside their allowed topics and memes.
Repugs are allowed to spew their filth here and on D sites, we just ignore it and or laugh.
senator lugar has said that the ad of sen obama on bipartisanship on nuclear proliferation is ACCURATE. stop the lies repubs. your enemy is more intelligent than you and more prepared this time around.
Final thought: "Beware the tyranny of good intentions."
mjULTRA, your name links to lewrockwell.com, so I can assume you are anti-government and pro-market. Looking at the effects deregulation is having on our economy currently, how can you expect to be taken seriously with such idealistic views of a market run society? Why don't you get right down to the point and enlighten us as to why having to pay for a police force out of pocket is better than having a group dedicated to serving the community without profit intentions? In your world, Blackwater would be our police force. Barry and the D's aren't perfect, but your vision of society is just scary.
just a generic comment on my observations for what seems a predominate democratic group that participates online in this blog... it's one thing to say americans are dumb enough to buy the rethuglican message... but, you guys are very well aware that a number of rethugs have come to this blog for the sole purpose of stirring up shit....
it's quite clear to me that democratic supporters are far more intelligent and far more equipped with the facts to be able to discern the difference between the dems' heartfelt conviction and the rethug brand of bs...
so... i ask (the generic) you this question.... why are you complaining about american stupidity within this incestuous environment when what is really needed is to attack the rethugs on their own home territories... i would suggest you go to rethug blogs and do as biden has said when quoting jefferson, "i'm not going to give them hell, i'm going to tell the truth and they're going to think it's hell"
This is a quote (more or less) from Harry Truman, not (Thomas?) Jefferson.
Those that are not stupid are either apathetic, cynical, or mired down in bickering and troll talking points (I'm talking about C&L now).
I will plead guilty to cynical, hopeful too, peed off at times too.
Inteligent people know that life aint a bed of roses, but it can be made better with some effort.
I think it is about stupidity. We dub the opposition the "parallel reality" crowd, but our side also has a "parallel reality" issue, namely, that without voting, our candidate will somehow manage to win. In 2000, 4 out of 5 voters under 25 didn't vote, in 2004, that improved slightly to where 3 out of 4 didn't vote. Meanwhile the fundamentalist have a near 100% turnout, which gives them a disproportionate amount of political power beyond their actual numbers.
If younger voters don't vote again, Obama may very well lose this election. If there is registration drives on the college campuses, and other younger voters decide to register, Obama will win. Remember, the fundamentalist are not so out of touch with reality to imaging that they will wield political power without turning out to vote.
(It looks nice on his resume, but hardly qualifies as “working across the aisle on a controversial issue” when consensus was against the spread of nuclear weapons around the world
If you look through that lens, you see things one way. A way you're programmed to see.
The better view is: American People vs. Very Evil Fucking Power Structure
No lens in this view. Just pure, dangerous truth.
And the Democrats are the lesser of two evils, they DO listen to their people.
I used to vote Liberal then Liberal Democrats (when they merged with the SDP) in the UK, because Labour was the third party where I lived, a retirement and vacation area, so a lot of vested interests and Labour didnt bother there.
I like, and am heartened by Obama's chuckling between points. You can almost see the gears turning in Obama's mind, "Ok, I can use this point, no, wait this one, and this one and this one. Man, picking apart John McCain is almost too easy."
Ferrofluid@86: Yeah, good point. Kind of like Kimberly in her message at No. 73.
She goes to "her" own website and spews forth a listing of crapola that appears
on the Repug blogs. Soooo typical of those narrow minded, uninformed and
biased individuals who don' have a clue as to the truth, and refuse to open their
eyes and minds in order to learn facts from fiction.
"They"... would be right. Bush got elected twice, what does that tell you?
Latest example: "The surge worked" kaffufle. Look people, the only reason McPalin can claim the surge "worked" is because it's ENDING. It's ending because Bush finally signed off on the timetable Maliki requested that OBAMA INSISTED ON.
If that were not the case, the surge would keep right on "surging" as the quagmire deepened and Abe SImpson got his 100 years in Iraq.
Do you understand what I'm saying? The republicon-artists are now claiming that Obama has waffled on his position over the surge and is refusing to admit it worked and thus declare "victory". It's 100% cart before horse!
If Obama were a republican, he would be upfront everyday saying "I ended the Iraq war! My timetable made it possible!" and the crowds would applaud. DO NOT let this ludicrous "victory" meme grow any more legs. Start explaining it to the right-wing retards NOW.

Joseph @ 79:
Great stuff. I love analysis like that.
Being my cynical self, however, I would also add that the MSM is racist too with the use of a "privileged" standpoint.
It's easier for the MSM to wrap their heads around a woman candidate (and a white male candidate) than a black one--even if he trumps them in experience, education and maturity.
That's why it was easy for them to use analogies to Rev. Wright ad nauseum. They wanted to play up to Middle (white) America's fears. And I believe that when people have those "fears" of an intellectual Black man leading them, it is easier to adapt to a woman who finished her degree after going to six colleges. That's why the RNC (and the media, by extension) revels in the "uppity" meme even though they do not specifically state it outright.
There's a double standard afoot in the treatment of Mr. Obama compared to the Republican nominees.
And I think the RNC knows it too. And it is sad that everyday people won't recognize it. It is much easier to lap up all they can about Gov. Hockey Mom and McPOW.
I disagree, Repug neocons, a lot of them are former marxists.

No, the Dems are not the lesser of two evils.
They are part and parcel of one evil. A one-party system controlled by major corporations. The evidence of this is undeniable.
There's lots of talk here why the repubs (I love "Caribou Barbie") are so bad.
Let's have 5 good, defensible reasons why Obama is better...no negatives, please.
1. John McCain had the wisdom to lead us into the Iraq war (along with many democrats, including Biden, but Obama rightly predicted disaster)
2. Pro-Choice. This is a matter of opinion, but a reason to vote against McCain nonetheless.
3. Tax relief for middle income Americans. Bush made tax cuts for the rich, and look at the results.
4. Energy and market regulation. Deregulation is nice in principle, but again, one only has to look at Enron and the housing crisis to prove otherwise.
5. Doesn't claim Biden has foreign policy experience because Delaware is close to Canada. That would just be stupid.
Some more informed folks could do better, but this is off the top of my head, and I'm not even voting for Obama! Go Nader!

Doggiebobo @ 53 Says: CMINCA@33: You nailed it as to the polls…and many of those who DO respondare in that category who watch only Faux Noise as their source of info…but I certainly don’t intend to restrict my negative critisism ONLY to Faux, for ALL of the MSM suck and are not worth a good shit. Humm, I wonder who owns all of the MSM today?
-----------
There are also those who give "confusing answers", according to Zogby. I wonder if a confusing answer is like a hanging chad.
On this subject the Repubs are right,
Team Obies biggest mistake is that it vastly overrates the publics intelligence. The majority of US voters appear to be not much more than a child in there mental capacities. Critical thinking actually seems to work against a party down there. The Repubs figured that out a long time ago and treating voters like morons seems to work very well for them. They just added a religious lunatic to the race and everyone is all a twitter.Just at look at the polls. What would be looked on as insulting voter intelligence up here (Canada) gets eaten up like gourmet ice cream down there. God save America, the Repubs and Dems sure won't.
MoveonPeople@106: Not a bad suggestion for Kimberly, however, it might be
more appropriate and better is she'd just go buy herself several bottles of wine
and consume them on Election Eve...that way the pain of losing won't be nearly
as hard to swallow..

Theres a problem with the Xtian crew and the Republicans, the younger Xtians hate the Repugs with a passion.
A lot of the older ones have problems with Republican hypocrisy and double standards.
Its a lose lose thing for McCain, adultery, bigamy (overlapping divorce and new marriage license), gambling, Vicki Iseman, abandoning first wife and children.
To name just some of the things that turn off the Christian moral vote, and Sarah Palin has a shedload of skeletons in her closet too.
Theres only so much sleaze average people can tolerate.
Because of all the trolls on this thread I have decided to send more money to Obama's campaign. Thank you, trolls. You have reminded me of the worst that is among us and how much is riding on this election.
When Barry speaks, it feels as if im listening to a motivational speaker, and not a politician, which i must say is a little unnerving. Strange. I've been noticing that the Republican plank has been more social conservatism, so I would assume that "less individual freedom" goes along with that. Legislating gay marriage, abortions, etc, would seem very much like social conservatism, and definitely not something coming from the other side of the spectrum. More federal power, as you put it, doesn't equate less individual freedom. There's a very distinct difference between advocating social programs (more federal power) and taking away peoples' individual freedoms, which appears in several Republican campaign line items.
And besides, we've *got* a bumbling idiot, and no matter how easy to read he is, he has still managed to cause a lot of damage. Also, your comparison of Obama's "motivational speaker" style to a used car salesman is interesting, if a bit flawed as well. There are quite a few leaders in past who have had dramatic speaking styles and who have also been pretty decent leaders. (MLK, JFK, Churchill, etc)

Yep they are, they voted for obama didn't they. A know nothing, do nothing done nothing and won't do nothing.
Marge, I hope neither you nor anyone in your family ever needs unemployment benefits or is without health insurance. I hope no one in your family is a soldier who needs the help of the VA. I hope you don't have grandkids.
I do. You vote as you please. I'm choosing to vote my hopes for a better future for my grandkids. If I'm unsuccessful--if Obama's unsuccessful--at least I won't have to look them in the eye and apologize for doing nothing.

I, for one, apologize for my inbred beer-swilling American brethren, and hope the rest of the world isn't too upset with our dud president. And I really wish we could promise we won't be doing that again ...
Let’s have 5 good, defensible reasons why Obama is better…no negatives, please.
Why not 10?
1.) Will cut taxes for 95% of all American families, balanced by repealing the Bush tax cuts for the wealthiest 1%, levying a new corporate tax for oil the companies, and closing corrupt loopholes.
2.) Has consistently supported alternative, clean energy (as opposed to Sen. McCain's consistent anti-environmental record), and has proposed an Apollo plan to make the U.S.A. independent of foreign oil.
3.) Has a completely different view of foreign policy than the Republicans: internationalist, humane, modern, and based on diplomacy instead of military aggression. Will revamp the military to deal with 21st Century threats, instead of squandering our national honor with dreams of winning WWIII by bombing civilians.
4.) Taught Constitutional Law, and was the Editor In Chief of the Harvard Law Review. Lord knows we need someone who actually understands the Constitution in the Oval Office.
5.) Called college degree a "birthright of every American," and has proposed a program that will let anyone who wants to, has the grades, and who can do the work, to attend a university of their choice.
6.) Might prosecute the Bush administration for war crimes and other illegal activity (a long-shot hope, but it could happen).
7.) Supports Equal Pay.
8.) Is pro-choice.
9.) Is not anti-gay.
10.) Promises universal health care. 'Nuff said.
"I mean honestly, how did Bush get elected in the first place??"
He didn't. He was ushered into office by SCOTUS. Specifically, by the swing vote of Sandra Day O'Conner.
I think there is probably one troll here, pretending to be several different people.
Typical right wing sleaziness.
"The polls are “so close” because most polls fail to adequately represent progressive demographics. For example, phone polls that only call land lines tend to miss voters under the age of 30."

You make the illogical assumption that everybody who frequents C&L, doesnt go other places too.
This is only one of many forums, blogsites and places.
But they DO tend to ban off topic or liberal types on those other places, its not a case of arguing with them, they dont like non Repug views, they dont even tolerate Ron Paul supporters on FR RS, or they didnt back in the primaries.
It was common to read about people complaining about being banned for speaking out for Ron Paul, or even just some of his ideas.
I'm pretty sure McCain is spending a lot of time at at lesat ONE of his Kitchen Tables tying to figure out how he's gonna' 'splain these damn economic realities to his peeps. I think I've come upon and explanation as to why Republican leaders have a hard time with this subject------they've been furniture deprived! McCain didn't have a kitchen table, Fuckabee didn't have a desk, .........
Okay, once again, the media (CNN in this case) has selected a several minute "sound bite" out of a much longer talk. I have heard Obama give a similar talk using pretty much the same words (it may have even been this very event), and he doesn't just stop at discussing the situation most folks find themsleves in or saying the Repugs think Americans are stupid.
In the rest of the talk he outlines more specific things that he intends to implement in order to ameliorate the economic woes of middle class Americans:
related to taxes, healthcare, education, ending the war/security, etc. I don't know if anything can save the fiscal mess the neo-cons have created, but at least Obama has some concrete, common sense plans as opposed to McCain and Ms. Mayor of Wassilla.

On this subject the Repubs are right,
Team Obies biggest mistake is that it vastly overrates the publics intelligence. The majority of US voters appear to be not much more than a child in their mental capacities.
The single greatest achievement of the media culture of the last 50 years has been the infantilization of the citizenry. It began the day the very virst politician stood up and addressed the "American Consumer," not the "American Citizen." You gotta work to be a citizen, you gotta think, and judge, and interpret. You needn't do any of those things as a consumer; indeed, it is entirely un-consumer-like even to consider such things. People get forced out of schools for being to 'civic-minded,' for recognizing and opposing injustice, among other things...
you have obviously never read a word of Marx. We can return to this conversation after you have perused Kapital a time or two...
I dont care for or about Marx, a non issue and a relic from the 19thC.
You aint going to get 90% of any countries population to agree to it.
if there was EVER a reply to any comment which I would describe as "typifying the predictably ill-educated, incurious, USer dumb-ass," it would be that one. I think I'm gonna copy it and frame it and put it up on the wall of the shitter...
In Britain and Europe you can say the words 'Karl Marx', people will stare and maybe chuckle, they might even listen.
In the US, you start talking about Marx somewhere public, and everybody will think CPUSA and the C word, and the FBI starts getting nosey.
Its a non starter really, 'Liberal' is a dirty word in a lot of places in the US.
Yes, the polls are close alright.....and I'll tell you why!
There is a good portion of Intelligent Americans that are tired of either side of the coin and are not planning to vote at all.
Give me a good valid reason to vote for either candidate? Voting for the best of two bad choices was done already an it continues to fail miserably.
Diebold manipulates our votes anyway. Just like the media is manipulating the message and manipulating the vote thereby giving people the illusion of a real choice when in fact there is none.
The regime is still in charge and that's why Americans are stupid. The American Federal Empire(AFE) will still rule and the stupid American people just come along to get fleeced.
A real choice like Ron Paul which would have taken us back to the Rule of Law where We The People are really in charge of our country and our destiny was silenced by mass media and thrown out like old garbage. Yet in every way he is right. We do need a Revolution to get change.
Do yourself a favor. Go eat a good dinner and perhaps ice cream. Spend election day on things that are important. Don't vote and don't worry about it.
This election is not important because our vote no longer matters.
The Old America has been hijacked by Domestic Terrorists (Old Money & rich elite Oz characters that sit behind the curtains and pull levers) and once that realization sinks into every American's mind then Nation will be ready for a Nationwide Revolution to overthrow them.
Then once again all those who are sitting this farce out will emerge again to vote for truth and not empty promises which change the moment they get elected just like was shown by the Democrats in 2006 and by the Republicans in past elections.
Yes, the polls are close alright.....and I'll tell you why!

Ah! Ron Paul, of course! I will quote my previous reply to another Paul supporter for you, and really would like a response:
Global Evildoer Fighter, you support Ron Paul, so I can assume you are anti-government and pro-market. Looking at the effects deregulation is having on our economy currently, how can you expect to be taken seriously with such idealistic views of a market run society? Why don’t you get right down to the point and enlighten us as to why having to pay for a police force out of pocket is better than having a group dedicated to serving the community without profit intentions? In your world, Blackwater would be our police force. Barry and the D’s aren’t perfect, but your vision of society is just scary.
Its a non starter really, 'Liberal' is a dirty word in a lot of places in the US.
You're the one who dropped the term into the conversation, cully.
You did not know wtf you were talking about, and I said so.
I have no conversation with the rest of the illiterate, drooling droning morons. Only you. And I only admonish you: Don't make light of stuff about which your ignorance is so compelling obvious.
The strategy of "they think your stupid" is a winner. And is a variation of the successful Republican "I am a victim and every man" theme. To be told one is stupid trumps even fear. Such is the state of our nation.

well... i've already stated that i'm concentrating my efforts on usenut where nothing is censored or blocked... but... you already know what happens here when someone gets blocked... they change their nyms and continue... all i see in your response is an excuse to give up and hand the election over to the repugs... if that's how you think fighting a war is about... then you are just another coward looking for an excuse to hang your failure upon.... good luck with that... i'm still going to fight on your behalf... even if you won't... ;-)
Because of all the trolls on this thread I have decided to send more money to Obama's campaign. Thank you, trolls. You have reminded me of the worst that is among us and how much is riding on this election.
Go Obama and Biden!
We're with you Jo, each one of Kimberly's cut and paste specials was worth $25 to the Obama campaign today. My wife, who for the 26 years we've been married has never agreed to donate to ANY political campaign is so upset that she's ready to add another $25 if Kimberly posts that tripe again. It's coming out of our vacation fund so I'm not real pleased with our little troll doll. But hey if that's what she is coming here to accomplish and she can motivate my wife like that, more power to her.
Global Evildoer@140: Wow, are you ever a pestimistic individual. ONLY people
like you will "stay home and not vote", and then I guess after the election is
over, and regardless of who wins, you can then brag about NOT voting, yet
feel that you are justified in being critical of whatever occurs during the next
four years. What a slacker ! And as to Diebold, that is NOT going to be an
issue this time around, so using that as an excuse is repugnant to me and others.
Get out and be involved, don't sit around and be critical when ALL of us can
do what is important...VOTE..
Let’s have 5 good, defensible reasons why Obama is better…no negatives, please.
Why not 10?
1.) Will cut taxes for 95% of all American families, balanced by repealing the Bush tax cuts for the wealthiest 1%, levying a new corporate tax for oil the companies, and closing corrupt loopholes.

.....uhm,
aaaaaaand...,
he's BLACK ! ! !
What better way for America to answer the last eight years but to elect a candidate with all the points mentioned above, as well as being black, and therefore being a solid part of our REDEMPTION.
His race and the fact that he was against the war, from the beginning, is the best America can do for a change of mentality.
Electing Obama says that "we get it, let's move on"
Lets face it, the truth always hurts and there is no eloquent way to say ' You're stupid." I totally agree with Obama and since the whole RNC convention, I believe that's what McCain thinks we, particulary women are Stupid. I am insulted by his campaign strategies. And all the LIES that they keep repeating over and over again.
Yes, there are peopel out there will vote for McCain because they simply cannot vote for a black man. And yes there are women out there will vote for McCain simply because Palin is a woman. I have heard women said it out loud to me that no matter what party the candidate belongs to, as long as she's a woman, they will vote for her. And these are college educated women. Why vote for a woman who will take away all the rights we fought so hard to get? If that is not stupidity, I dont' know what is.
Yes, the polls are close alright.....and I'll tell you why!

Thanks. I'll be sure to tell my grandkids I didn't do a damn thing on election day; that I didn't give a damn enough for them to even try to improve their futures an iota because the candidate who might have been a little bit better (a lot better, IMHO) wasn't omnipotently perfect enough to try to overcome the f8cked up system.
Since "our vote doesn't matter," I'll "go eat a good dinner and perhaps ice cream," or maybe "just go shopping." When my grandson is old enough to join the military, I'll just tell him, "I had spumoni."

Witness the public hysteria over gas prices going up to $5 in places, end of the world time for the consumer and their trucks and SUVs.
Republicans and the commodity gougers, the monopolizers, the closed market mega profit types, just love a good scam.
They extended copyright, close off competition, and manipulate markets for their own profit.
This is the half of the evil of Republicanism and their crony lobbyists, the other half is repressive laws and thuggish law enforcement to keep people from complaining and or protesting.
Basically modern Republicanism is classic Fascism.

Why are all the polls so close? Why are Americans so dumb?
What is it about McCain that they see, that I do not?
And time after time a slight majority of Americans prove that their thinking is correct.
Not to worry - Ms. Palin is going to Washington and will have things ship shape in no time!
AND THAT ISN'T STUPID ?
please stay away from personal attacks and stay with the issues, as was brilliantly demonstrated by Obama in this speech.

Michael M. @ 1:
Problem is, 'They' have been proven right, so many times.
Hey, "they" know you/we elected the Chimp twice, or stood by while they stole the 'election' twice, at any rate... They don't think we're stupid. They have the evidence, and not only of stupidity, but also of cowardice and indolence...
The only change McCain brings to this campaign is POCKET CHANGE!

What happened to Sarah's "actual responsibilities"? http://www.thepresidentialcandidates.us/about-sarah-palin-a-letter-from-... [Link from NPR]
"Not to worry - Ms. Palin is going to Washington and will have things ship shape in no time!"
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
It's already in shit shape, thanks to her folks.
I'd say that yes, there are a lot of stupid people in this country. I mean honestly, how did Bush get elected in the first place?? Scary.
It's about POLICY,
It's about the issues, philosophy, ideology, party, and government,
It's not about Obama.
That's their game.
Don't play it.

Change we can be deceived in: Princess Pork and the The POW Kid.

They have used Bush and now they want McCain ..he gave in to the far right with his V.P. pick.
Red flags of warning of flying high..
Every time I start to feel down about the way the polls are running, I listen to a little bit of an Obama speech, like this one, and it helps.
This should be one of those phony McCain posters. "McCain/Palin: We Think You're Stupid!"*

For the VP debate, I think Biden will manage to be able to attack Palin effectively by using Barack's most recent line about "you can't just make stuff up." By the way, here's a great example of grassroots campaigning in action, an excellent way to move people from non-swing states to the battleground states: http://obamatravel.org
Sarah Palin calls herself a 'hockey' mom, but she's also a pretty fair 'fuckey' mom, too, based on Bristle's behavior......
If everyone would try unplugging their TVs for a year or so, and read things instead, they might remember how to do critical thinking for themselves.

I disagree.
the whole McCain is an angry guy, Palin is inexperienced thing, has not worked.
I feel it has been a waste of time AND energy, and it has backfired.
Americans will go against McCain and Palin on the issues, if the memes are appropriately positioned.
--------------------- -------------------- ---------------------- ------------------- -------------------
I love most Americans, well, at least I tolerate them. Consider learning Russian and Chinese if we get railroaded into McCain/Palin.

of course, the repubs think the americans are stupid. that's why they chose caribou barbie. that's why the dont want to spend on education. if people wisen up, that'll be the end of them.
Change we can believe in:
residual troops in Iraq
hostile words towards Iran
No pursuit of the Bush-Cheney criminals
FISA amnesty
more troops...more troops for Afghanistan
missing $trillions? old news
Yes, change Americans want, believe in, and will rush to the polls to vote for.

Michael M. @ 1:
We as Americans are stupid (most of us). We see labels, conservative, neocon, christian, liberal, progressive. The only minds that can be changed are the independents. WE ALL, need to look past labels and vote on the issues. Who knows, I just might vote for a Republican if I knew where they stood on the issues. I've cast many of votes throughout my years, and voted for more than one party. I can safely say, there is maybe one or two Republicans that I would cast my vote for this time around. They're all the same. They are Bush.
I don't believe the polls. The polls were constantly wrong during primary season.
The polls were wrong at the 2004 election. Hell if the polls of about a year ago were anything to go by shouldn't it be giuliani vs clinton??
the media drive this "its close" narrative because that makes for a better story.
Don't believe the polls.
An Other Greek @ 48:
you forget one critical thing, people being questioning angry and spiteful here against the Repugs, the public will almost never read any of what we say.
C&L is more of sharing memes, info and ideas, also smashing down and demoralizing Repug hacks and bloggers.
It cant be much fun being a Repug grassroots blogger, they are reviled by anybody with a brain.
the msm and the repubs know that a large percentage of americans are stupid. stupid people can be easily manipulated and are very paranoid. they have convinced those morons that the greatest threat to them islamic terrorists. they have manipulated these idiots into thinking that if the dems hold office airplanes will be flying into buildings every damn day. but never saying in reality when we were attacked the repups were in charge. these idiots are so ignorant that even though the having trouble making ends meet, are losing their health insurance, and even their homes, losing the kids college savings it doesn't matter because we are protecting you even though you have a better chance of a meteor hitting your house than being a victim of terrorism.
just a generic comment on my observations for what seems a predominate democratic group that participates online in this blog... it's one thing to say americans are dumb enough to buy the rethuglican message... but, you guys are very well aware that a number of rethugs have come to this blog for the sole purpose of stirring up shit....
it's quite clear to me that democratic supporters are far more intelligent and far more equipped with the facts to be able to discern the difference between the dems' heartfelt conviction and the rethug brand of bs...
so... i ask (the generic) you this question.... why are you complaining about american stupidity within this incestuous environment when what is really needed is to attack the rethugs on their own home territories... i would suggest you go to rethug blogs and do as biden has said when quoting jefferson, "i'm not going to give them hell, i'm going to tell the truth and they're going to think it's hell"
i certainly enjoy this blog and i fully support a democratic ticket... but, most of my energy is going right to the heart of the beast and hammering home my arguments and smacking down the fallacious bullshit that they indulge in.... and if you don't believe me... check out usenut.... i've been concentrating much of my energy on the georgian newsgroup: atl.general as well as other republican newsgroups such as alt.politics.republican, alt.politics.usa
and the main reason i do this is because the old guard of curmudgeons is the dominant demographic on these groups...
i suggest that if you truly want to win this election... you go right at them directly because on this blog, you are only preaching to the choir....
i'm just saying.... ;-)

woody, tokin librul @ 56:
British schools and colleges tend to teach history, I dont think US school do much.
There's lots of talk here why the repubs (I love "Caribou Barbie") are so bad.
Let's have 5 good, defensible reasons why Obama is better...no negatives, please.
We are incredibly stupid. We should've addressed the education problem in this country decades ago.
It's for idiots, designed from the bottom up to appeal to the moronic reich!
woody, tokin librul @ 12:
Yessir.
"BobbyG said:
(It looks nice on his resume, but hardly qualifies as “working across the aisle on a controversial issue” when consensus was against the spread of nuclear weapons around the world
GO MCCAIN/PALIN!!!!!!!!!!!

Michael M. @ 1:
The Narrative Flood
I have noted this once before, but it might work if I note it three times: The Media is Conservative, The Media is Conservative, The Media is Conservative.
That is the theme Obama should be using when the Palin question is asked.

you have obviously never read a word of Marx. We can return to this conversation after you have perused Kapital a time or two...
kimberly, my dear, you are not an independent.

If you look through that lens, you see things one way. A way you're programmed to see.
The better view is: American People vs. Very Evil Fucking Power Structure
No lens in this view. Just pure, dangerous truth.

Duh.
oh wow, kimberly, not only are you NOT an independent, you're a republican HACK. LOL. you seriously dont think you have an audience here, right?
Kimberly @ 73:
Ugh.
Nice cut and paste waste of space.
VietVet8666 @ 87:
And the Democrats are the lesser of two evils, they DO listen to their people.
I used to vote Liberal then Liberal Democrats (when they merged with the SDP) in the UK, because Labour was the third party where I lived, a retirement and vacation area, so a lot of vested interests and Labour didnt bother there.
I like, and am heartened by Obama's chuckling between points. You can almost see the gears turning in Obama's mind, "Ok, I can use this point, no, wait this one, and this one and this one. Man, picking apart John McCain is almost too easy."
Which then elicits a chuckle.

No, the Dems are not the lesser of two evils.
They are part and parcel of one evil. A one-party system controlled by major corporations. The evidence of this is undeniable.
VietVet8666 @ 66:
Go Nader!
Kimberly @ 73.

Maybe those were his last three words. Then we see a very kind-looking black man around 40 years old (who is close to the stage) smiling and almost crying with joy and he's looking at McCain and he very passionately and clearly mouths the words "God Bless You." to McCain.

VietVet8666 @ 66:
1. Obama spoke against the Iraq War.
2. Obama wrote a bill as a State Senator to curb police brutality.
3. As a U.S. Senator, Obama works with the GOP.
4. As a U.S. Senator, he works with Senator Lugar to get rid of lose nukes.
5. To reduce earmark, he works with Senator Calhburn to publicize to the companies that gives money to the politicians.
Voting for Nader? It's a wasted vote and more evidence of our stupidity.
Because of all the trolls on this thread I have decided to send more money to Obama's campaign. Thank you, trolls. You have reminded me of the worst that is among us and how much is riding on this election.
Go Obama and Biden!
mjULTRA @ 9:
Don Rumsfeld hater @ 109:
Could he have been an actor payed to attend, just like that faked military funeral complete with actors in uniform,
made especially for the RNC convention !
Doggiebobo @ 74:
then you can only blame yourself for losing the election...
btw... i'd like to take this time to thank c&l for giving me so much ammo to fight on behalf of those whom apparently won't... which should embarrass you profusely doggieboo, 'cause i'm a candian... and even though i find their commentary repugnant... i know that the only way to win a war is to get right down into the front lines... i'm sorry, but your excuse only reinforces the repug argument of cowardice...
What will folks be talking about here on December 1, 2008?
How good it will be to get the troops out of Iraq?
How good it will be to reduce the national debt and restore the value of the dollar?
How joyous will be the coming holiday season?
Don Rumsfeld hater @ 109:
Now, that is spooky and truly a "I love you Godfather moment."

if there was EVER a reply to any comment which I would describe as "typifying the predictably ill-educated, incurious, USer dumb-ass," it would be that one. I think I'm gonna copy it and frame it and put it up on the wall of the shitter...
klunk @ 120:
The front lines? Try posting something even REMOTELY against standard party talking points at freerepublic.com and your account will be banned in no less than 10 minutes. Give it a shot.
And face it, the only people reading the blog comments are politics junkies with their minds made up when they left the womb most likely, so really it's a waste of time. We'd be better off calling into radio and TV shows. Or donating money and canvassing. But that'd require leaving our basements ;)
Marge @ 19:
Marge, I hope neither you nor anyone in your family ever needs unemployment benefits or is without health insurance. I hope no one in your family is a soldier who needs the help of the VA. I hope you don't have grandkids.
I do. You vote as you please. I'm choosing to vote my hopes for a better future for my grandkids. If I'm unsuccessful--if Obama's unsuccessful--at least I won't have to look them in the eye and apologize for doing nothing.
Canuck observer @ 113:
I remember John Stewart saying something like that when Obama gave a great speech on race relations in America.
I, for one, apologize for my inbred beer-swilling American brethren, and hope the rest of the world isn't too upset with our dud president. And I really wish we could promise we won't be doing that again ...
They're right.
Americans are stupid. The GOP has gambled that the ignorance of the American people knows no bounds, and they are winning. Again.
'Nuff said.
Unfortunately, the McCain campaign doesn't "think" we're stupid. They know we are.
Hi Joseph,
Me again. White American guy in Japan. You wrote:

.................................
What does that mean?? Is that from the movie??
"I mean honestly, how did Bush get elected in the first place??"
He didn't. He was ushered into office by SCOTUS. Specifically, by the swing vote of Sandra Day O'Conner.
I think there is probably one troll here, pretending to be several different people.
Typical right wing sleaziness.
"The polls are “so close” because most polls fail to adequately represent progressive demographics. For example, phone polls that only call land lines tend to miss voters under the age of 30."
Bingo.

Klunk@122: You, being a Canadian, really gives me comfort and a warm feeling
since I assume you live North of the border and cannot even vote, so leave your
self-serving BS for your native friends up there...or if you want, you can come
South and visit us when the urge grabs you.

Yes. It was an attempt to show blind allegiance to a "boss" figure.
Joseph
Global Evildoer Fighter @ 140:
Barry and the D’s aren’t perfect, but your vision of society is just scary.
ferrofluid (Obama + Biden = 2008) @ 138:
You're the one who dropped the term into the conversation, cully.
You did not know wtf you were talking about, and I said so.
I have no conversation with the rest of the illiterate, drooling droning morons. Only you. And I only admonish you: Don't make light of stuff about which your ignorance is so compelling obvious.
The strategy of "they think your stupid" is a winner. And is a variation of the successful Republican "I am a victim and every man" theme. To be told one is stupid trumps even fear. Such is the state of our nation.
Pete&Pete @ 126:
well... i've already stated that i'm concentrating my efforts on usenut where nothing is censored or blocked... but... you already know what happens here when someone gets blocked... they change their nyms and continue... all i see in your response is an excuse to give up and hand the election over to the repugs... if that's how you think fighting a war is about... then you are just another coward looking for an excuse to hang your failure upon.... good luck with that... i'm still going to fight on your behalf... even if you won't... ;-)
Jo @ 119:
S.G.E.W. @ 130:

.....uhm,
aaaaaaand...,
he's BLACK ! ! !
What better way for America to answer the last eight years but to elect a candidate with all the points mentioned above, as well as being black, and therefore being a solid part of our REDEMPTION.
His race and the fact that he was against the war, from the beginning, is the best America can do for a change of mentality.
Electing Obama says that "we get it, let's move on"
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lets face it, the truth always hurts and there is no eloquent way to say ' You're stupid." I totally agree with Obama and since the whole RNC convention, I believe that's what McCain thinks we, particulary women are Stupid.
Global Evildoer Fighter @ 140:
Thanks for your advice.

People either care for the things thats concern them NOW, or the foreseeable future.
