'Alaska Women Reject Palin' rally draws record crowds
Mudflats (the go-to blog for Alaska politics):
Never, have I seen anything like it in my 17 and a half years living in Anchorage. The organizers had someone walk the rally with a counter, and they clicked off well over 1400 people (not including the 90 counter-demonstrators). This was the biggest political rally ever, in the history of the state. I was absolutely stunned. The second most amazing thing is how many people honked and gave the thumbs up as they drove by. And even those that didn’t honk looked wide-eyed and awe-struck at the huge crowd that was growing by the minute. This just doesn’t happen here. So, if you’ve been doing the math… Yes. The Alaska Women Reject Palin rally was significantly bigger than Palin’s rally that got all the national media coverage! So take heart, sit back, and enjoy...Sarah Palin most definitely does not speak for all Alaskans.
There's a photo gallery (with some great signs) here, and a video of the crowd below.

What the Hell is the top of the Democratic ticket doing attacking John McCain's #2? She's not going to materialize in the Obama cabinet if McCain, the #1 loses, after all. So, why attack the Veep Candidate and ignore the top of the other ticket, and let politics dance to the strings of Sarah Palin? The Hell?
mccains camp intentionally picked an extremely weak VP candidate so that the republicans can continually play the "victim" card. democrats need to point this out.
This will never see the light of day in the MSM. McCain will not permit it.
What a lovely clip :)
General_Rennenkampf @ 1:
It is not the Democratic ticket attacking Palin. This seems to be a spontaneous reaction from Alaska's women and it is quite heartening to see that women are not flocking to Republicans just because of a woman candidate. Like one of the posters said, "I vote with my brain, not with my gender."
Some women need to understand how anti-female McCain-Palin ticket views are! Anti-choice, anti-equality in pay, anti-middle class. One can go on and on. And they (McCain/Palin) are outright liers!
Barrett D @ 2:
That way lies defeat in a year that should be a cheap victory. Attack the second banana? Attack the person of the second banana instead of you know, her actual achievements (granted, she has fewer than Obama does. All the more reason to ignore her then, because that gives the GOP a ready-made line to trot out Obama's inexperience and lack of qualifications)?
Do you seriously want an utter disaster in 2008 instead of a mere mild disaster with Obama?
ABB @ 5:
Bull-shit.
The Democrats organized this, it's rather obvious, and from argumentum ad hominem (as opposed to actually discussing the war and the economy, Lord knows we can't discuss real issues in a presidential campaign), you could argue that Palin is a disaster for women. Fairly easy to round up a few people and get them to protest. This is as "spontaneous" as the Conventions were.
I hate McCane and Failin' Palin. They are lying and this day and all before the Repugs lose "will live in Infamy". MSM better get their ass in gear or the world will be laughing their asses off. I can hear them (all respected journalists from around the world) now "Well, now that John McCain and that empty shell (Failin', ship;s not sailin', your campaign's trailin') palin are now in power we can do what we want for our own purposes". Yeaoww.
Here is the nuts:
If the Republicans win this 2008 election, your country is toast. You have now shown the world that you don't care that you are the laughing stock. Can you find Europe on a map?? Idiots who think the Earth is 5000 years old. Yawn, how stupid can one person be, really??
Here is a quote for some of the Hillary supporters who are thinking of voting for McCain because of Palin - "There is nothing that Hillary Clinton and Sarah Palin share except a chromosome!"
General_Rennenkampf @ 1:
how is this obama's fault. the truth is coming out. and these women who organized this were threatened by the callers of a jerk radio commentator. looks like they got the best kind of revenge success.
Wow 1400 out of a total state population of only 600,000. That's .2% of the entire population. It would be like 60,000 showing up for an anti-Schwarzenegger rally in California!
Fuck McCain. His POW time is shit. Three. that's been said. Fuck him
General_Rennenkampf @ 1:
Because the veep is the only thing that's going to get the far right wing to come out and vote for that social hack McCain.
General_Rennenkampf @ 7:
prove or accept the fact that you've been duped by spin.
McCain has lost all respect and credibility.
This election could have been decided on "issues".
The same rediculous crap that is always debated.
The democrats are weak on defense, they will raise your taxes, they want to abort your babies, and they want gays and lesbians to seduce your children.
However, McCain made too many mistakes, those same claims can only be made by a campaign that is not contantly caught in a lie, is not proven out of touch, is not seen as too FUCKING OLD to run this country.
He's had it, he's lost, he knows it.
Let him do what he thinks will work.
Let Obama do what he knows will prevail.
THIS TIME, the better candidate WILL win.
Peace.
General_Rennenkampf @ 6:
i dont care, i'm canadian. i'm just pointing out why they picked sarah palin for VP. and its working.
this is a great example that the neocon MEDIA
shoving palin down the public's throat.
lies and deceptions and vendettas do not
qualify as pres or vp attributes, they do
however as reichwingneocon fascists
gop bigots.
Enough of Palin. We're all agreed she is a terrible VP pick. Back to bashing McPOW's empty policies, and his continuation of the Bush years.
(I'm hoping this all simmers down. It's her newness and wrongness creating all the buzz. The short attention span of the public might be a good thing. She'll be old news next week.)
THE FIGHT IS AGAINST McSAME. Don't forget.
There is a story about the Anchorage airport that has not come out yet. Alaskans know about it, but the press hasn't picked up on it yet. I hope it causes the kind of destruction to her credibility that she apparently deserves.
That's all good but it;s the press that focussing on Pailin, to the exclusion of all else. Just like the piece above pointed out..unless i misread that.. it was Pialin's group that got the coverage. If you hear Obama he always DOES focus on McCain. It's just that McCain's propaganda mill (MSM) don't want us focused on things that matter.
Right @ 8:
Like one of my friends said," This election is a referendum of American public's average IQ!" Let us see how stupid or smart we are!
Watched some McSame a while ago, and you know what it reminds me of? Nobody on this list will be able to identify with it, but if you were on the ground in Germany around 1944 , and heard the droning of those flights of B-17 bombers coming closer, that is the sound - the monotony of it. Then you waited to hear the explosions and guess how far away it was.
That is war that McSame never experienced. He was on the delivering side, I was on the receiving side.
don't believe the mcpalin hype. at its very core their platform is a lie.
General_Rennenkampf Says: What the Hell is the top of the Democratic ticket doing attacking John McCain’s #2? She’s not going to materialize in the Obama cabinet if McCain, the #1 loses, after all. So, why attack the Veep Candidate and ignore the top of the other ticket, and let politics dance to the strings of Sarah Palin? The Hell?
At this point, I think Obama is highlighting the myriad lies and failures (what you refer to as "attack") of both candidates. They deserve it.
And let's just remember this: the failure of Fannie, Freddie, Lehman, AIG, WaMu and Merrill are because of Republican mismanagement of the economy, i.e Bushonomics, of which Buffalo Chip McSurge is an adherent (at least as much as he understands economics, of course).
McCain/Palin: recipe for (more) disaster).
Roland @ 11:
and poll information is taken from sample of less than one percent of the us population but i bet you place a lot of weight on them
Although I like the protest, Do these women vote? How could a former PTA mom be afforded so much power in such a small amount of time? Did these people like the pork, and then decide they didn't like her? What gives?
Not living in Alaska, I can't say I actually knew how they felt. But this rally at least gives me a glimmer of hope.
Right @ 8:
Its toast now
The stock markets tomorrow are going to crash dive like a holed submarine.
heckvajob Chimpy, and also partner in crime Sen. WcCain (90%-W)
Its going to be tricksy to arrange their traditional annual Wall Street 10s billion dollar bonuses this year, without looking totally crooked.
Last year a mere $38 billion in bonuses paid out in WS in a fading economy and bubble deflation.
criticism of palin should always include that this was
poor judgement by republican john mccain.
Roland @ 11:
And it's still more than Palin got to her rally.
AAWRP = All-American Women Reject Palin.
Period.
they have a good idea, time to go crack open a bottle and laugh.
Ahhh... free speech and freedom to assemble. The truth comes out. Isn't it grand! :)
Applause to the Alaskans!
Not everyone in Alaska is a Red Neck after all
Zenrage @ 13:
Bingo.
Let's hope they vote.
And let's also hope people start to wake up and recognise that while the market is tanking, the millionaires who're running the U.S. are making a killing at their expense.
What does it matter to Bush and Cheney if the market is tanking, so long as Halliburton, Carlyle and all the oil companies they're invested in are raking in record profits thanks to American taxpayer dollars?
Palin fans, please keep in mind that George Bush is "born again"... (the very air pregnant with sarcastic interpretion...)
... and where has that gotten us...?
now reach for your gag bags and enjoy:

theWalrus @ 24:
That failing's been built in by government bailouts. I've my own solution for CEO corruption, one that I shall not mention here, but as a hint, let's just say that Stalin had the right idea on some things.
Greed, my friend, is a powerful emotion. We're paying for their mistakes. Just let the damn depression happen already.
nomobull @ 14:
Duped by spin? This is the first I've heard of it and Savage and Hannity and Limbaugh make me physically ill. I cannot prove it, but if I were in the DNC, it's precisely what I would do. It makes too much political sense to be purely spontaneous, else records would show this happened before Palin became the Veep nominee on the Republican ticket. No such records exist.
My favorite sign was "Palin screws this working mom".
yellowdog @ 3:
I was just about to ask if this is only being covered on the blogs. It's up to Obama make it get into the MSM by pointing out that it happened even if John Bush tries to squelch it. Rather, it is up to Biden and the other surrogates. They just have to keep bringing it up whenever they're out there before the press. If anyone sees it on the MSM, please give us a heads up.
bamboozled @ 36:
The clever money left the country a year or three ago, they are offshore safe in foreign ports.
Why is this mot on the national news. What can we do to get this story on the news? We need to work at it. Let the powers to be do it - now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And I'm not talking about Cable news, I'm talking about ABC, CBS and NBC. Make sure to send a special notice to kiss ass Gibson at ABC.
Fanon @ 35:
Exactly. She's the sole reason McCain has gone from nothing to even in the polls. Once people wake up and realise she's the year-and-a-half governor of a state with the population of metro Greenville, South Carolina, they might start to focus on McCain.
The fact that he's older than Reagan was when he took office.
That she has a 50% chance of inheriting the most important office in the world.
General_Rennenkampf @ 38:
So, if it was "organized" that makes it less powerful? Are all the protests you've attended "spontaneous"? At least their homemade signs were truly homemade. Not like the one's at Palin's first press conference and subsequent campaign stops which all look identical. So, at least that part is genuine.
If there is no reaction for the above, I'm getting the popcorn out
gonzalez@42, This is just another incident of MSM not doing it's job. What about the war protests? MSM calles them 'Hecklers". MSM thinks Palin is the savior of the RNC. Many average people say, 'No thanks'
Bravo to the women of Alaska!
Fanon @ 45:
Mazel Tov. Palin's an inexperienced BOTTOM OF THE TICKET. Beat MCCAIN, you beat PALIN. Attempt to beat PALIN, McCain WINS.
Wow, fantastic sign that says "I'm not stupid!" Excellent!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Whats with all this talk about not attacking Palin? F-that. Attack the top of the ticket sure, but attack the bottom too, attack the whole darn thing! Attack the top for his horrible judgement, and attack the bottom for her horrible world view. Attack, attack, attack. Make stuff up that sounds true, I don't care, just do whatever it takes to not have Sarah Palin anywhere near any button.
ABB @ 9:
I doubt that quote came from any women contemplating voting for the Republican ticket.
McCain has lost all respect and credibility that he may have once had
This election could have been decided on issues.
Or it could have been decided on the same ridiculous crap that is always brought up.
The democrats are weak on defense, they will raise your taxes, they want to abort your babies, and they want gays and lesbians to seduce your children.
However, McCain made too many mistakes, those same claims can only be made by a campaign that is not constantly caught in a lie, is not proven out of touch, is not seen as lead by a "man" too FUCKING OLD to run this country (if you are too old and stubborn to learn how to use a computer, you are NOT qualified to be the POTUS).
He’s had it, he’s lost, he knows it.
Let him do what he thinks will work.
Let Obama do what he knows will prevail.
THIS TIME, the better candidate WILL win.
Peace.
General_Rennenkampf @ 1:
If you wipe the lipstick off the pig what's left?
Whoa, cool. I hope it gets some traction in the media.
General @48
(I didn't want to quote all those long posts, again). Not necessarily so. I don't think you can ignore the Palin problem. I agree that you HAVE to absolutely attack McCain. However, my husband has an evangelical background (not one anymore!) and his mother was all set to vote for Obama because she can't stand McCain and Bush and the last eight years, BUT voila, enter Ms. Pitbull Palin with her pro-life stance and evangelical credentials and she is now in McCain's camp. Sorry for the run-on sentence.
So, I do think you need to deal with the Palin problem as part and parcel of the entire ticket problem.
Because the MSM and all her supporters paint Palin as Saint Sarah, this won't get any coverage in the corporate media. So I'm glad to see that this posting from Mudflats is getting generously spread around the progressive blogosphere. Plus I've emailed links to a couple of fellow Obama supporters, so hopefully they will pass it on to others.
Although I agree that the focus should ultimately be on John McCain, it still has some effect to bash Palin, because again it calls into question his judgment. It also brings into sharper focus the fact that Palin was chosen as a nakedly political move to draw women over to his ticket, PLUS the McCain campaign keeps pounding on how popular she is in Alaska. This proves she isn't as popular as they claim, so it's yet another lie (or at least exaggeration) committed by the McCain campaign.
But I'm still left with a certain amount of cynicism. Yes, it's true that this upcoming election does seem to be a referendum on the IQ of Americans, and right now, I can't help but be left with the impression that that IQ is damn low.
Very heartening to see this. Can we push this out to the MSM so the rest of the world can see that Palin is not universally loved by all Alaskans?
Attacking/Challenging palin is attacking/challenging
republican john mccain. mccain made this poor judgement he would rather win an election than be concerned about our national security.
some people are saying we should be able to review his
medical records by physician(s) he is a cancer survivor. this is real and serious.
i think we should always negative frame mccain with the palin pick this is a strategy that works....the (R)
play this well. it becomes viral.
I say three cheers for these women. And their families. They look like they are having fun.
Tomorrow will be fireworks in AK since some Republican Radio Hack released the names of the two organizers and started the hate mail/call brigade against them. Now they are planning a anti-anti group with all the hateful types.
Peter G @ 53:
Pork.
Fanon @ 55:
I've been raised an evangelical. I don't give a damn about Palin's inexperience and appeal to the Evangelicals. If it is reminded to them that a vote for Palin is a vote for McCain, that might stop them dead in its tracks. Palin should be dealt with, yes. Not to the exclusion of McCain. Then it's the Palin election, not the Obama-McCain election.
this is why what these women are doing in alaska and all
over is important. watch this short video on mccain's health issues......more than you may think. president palin could become a reality
http://bravenewfilms.org/blog/53172-john-mccain-s-health-records-must-be...
Apparently Sarah can't control everyone in 'her' state...because, simply, she can't 'fire' ordinary citizens.
I worked for a woman once who reminds me so much of Sarah...loved being the centre of attention, was extremely comfortable speaking to large audiences, was enabled by a group of very sexist men, had no doubt about her 'mission' or her methods, and fired so many people it was shocking & way past the 'norm'.
That this woman, Sarah, has been presented with the opportunity to not only 'guide' an aging & faltering person, if he becomes elected to the presidency...but possibly allowed to use her need to control (to the nth degree), without benefit of any credible knowledge of economics, global issues, matters relating to areas other than Alaska, etc, etc...is so absurd as to be laughable...that is, if it wasn't reality.
Hope that the Americans who truly care about freedom & opportunity for all, can come together & rescue your country before it's too late.
Bankok@60, Let them. These women knew the risks. If MSM does it's job and reports it, so be it. It will let people know Palin isn't as popular as she seems. On the contrary, she's seems very polarizing. Doesn't she?
General_Rennenkampf @ 62:
For these people it is all about Palin. They could care less about McCain. They actually hope he dies soon. Listen to what they say on the right wing blogs.
1400 people in Alaska? I say "Great!"
I haven't seen 1400 people in Miami in the streets since The Heat won the NBA Championship in 2006.
We all need to say to Sarah Palin about the VP ....."Thanks, but no thanks."
Jo @ 66:
Heh, so they're going from unworkable ideas that can keep the US intact to ideas that would make the US crumble within 100 years at most?
Aw, shit.
I've been saying this for months: screw the polls, the horse-race, the news-cycle winners, the hullabaloo of this or that new "scandal".
You democrats OWN THE STREET.
You can go anywhere in the country (well almost, some of the most traditionally republican areas even), & win an instant caucus if such a thing could be held. The ratio here seems pretty instructive about 1500 to 100, & this is in the state where she's the most popular governor ever!!! or some such nonsense. That whole "the crowds are a bad thing, he's a celebrity...ewww" line is the one stupidest tactic i've ever seen employed. Did they think those 75000 in denver or 70000 in oregan or how ever many tens of thousands where ever Obama wants them assembled next time are disqualified from voting by their attendance?
Call out McCain, insult the idiot, he deserves it...i say that cuz i enjoy it but,
It isn't necessary, this campaign is a steamroller.
Anybody have stats on the % of newly registered voters that don't vote in the election year they register in? i bet it's awfully small.
This anti-rally is unexpected and so great.
Here are some quotations and links that might be of interest:
Palin's media-induced lustre is beginning to fade as more and more Americans begin to look past her appearance to who she really is and what she actually stands for. Do we want a foreign policy challenged Sarah Palin a heartbeat from the presidency? Do women impregnated through rape or incest wish to be forced to carry such fetuses to term? Do we want Bible-thumping, war-mongering, fear-producing, book-banning Sarah in the White House with McCain who sings “bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb Iran".
As John Cole put it: "Sarah Palin is the distilled essence of wingnut. She has it all. She is dishonest. She is a religious nut. She is incurious. She is anti-science. She is inexperienced. She abuses her authority. She hides behind executive privilege. She is a big spender. She works from the gut and places a greater value on instinct than knowledge."

i never hear the comparison of palin to biden...comparing
(apples to apples) but comparing palin to obama in an
attempt to continue the theme that obama lacks
experience.
they claim obama lacks experience so they pick a
vice president nominee with the least amount of experience in modern history.
when you ask mccain or a mccain supporter about
palin's experience and/or ability to be a heartbeat away
you get a Question instead of an answer. this is linguistic framing.
when you vote it will say mccain/palin...this ticket is
more of a RISK.
General_Rennenkampf @ 69:
Sarah Palin is a Dominionist. She believes in the Rapture. The Rapture concludes with the total destruction of the planet. They want war, fire, hell and damnation. Death and more deaths.
Sarah Palin is a CULT. Cultists do not think. They are brainwashed.
She is deadly. She is your worst nightmare.
Read Chris Hedges' book, "AMERICAN FASCISTS: THE CHRISTIAN RIGHT AND THE WAR ON AMERICA".
Looks like a pretty hot time in Alaska!
constituent @ 73:
KKKarl Rove's plan IS working as intended.
Jo @ 74:
Fascism can't work in a region the size of the US. You can't govern 7 million square miles like a Tsar or a Soviet leader. That way lies a rapid crumbling of an already bad institution.
Incidentally, I did read Hedges' book, and the guy used "fascist" to mean "guys I don't like." The fascists of the 1930s are not today's Dominionists, and fascism will not be Dominionism in America. The equivalent of Dominionism in 1930s Europe was ultramontanism. The fascists were a separate category.
♠♠...Bangkok Bob...♠♠ @ 60:

the plan is mccain is out the door with a mysterious

General_Rennenkampf @ 77:
When fascism comes to America it will not be dressed in brown shirts but will be carrying a cross. They have aligned themselves with corporate interests and have infiltrated almost all the departments in government.
I don't know why or where you get the "guys I don't like" reasoning. James Dobson is supposed to be a "guy" we admire?
Speaking of stupid :
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/09/14/opinion/14friedman.html?hp
Jo @ 81:
No, James Dobson is not to be admired. But to use fascism for the Dominionist Right is to ignore the currently-existing fascists in the form of the Aryan Nations, the KKK, and the other white power movements. Dominionism is a mutation of Christianity in keeping with other mutations in other religions around the globe. It's actually far more prevalent in the United States than other regions, even in Europe that in the past was so fond of mass murder over one or two words in the creeds. Dominionism is an American phenomenon. Not necessarily one typical of Christianity globally.
General_Rennenkampf @ 1:
nice try...but this was a grass roots rally...had nothing to do with obama
and obama hasnt been attacking palin
except when she lies...which is everytime she opens her mouth
since she purports to represent the mccain/palin ticket, when she lies, mccain lies
get it...got it....good
now go blow
Wake the FUCK UP AMERICA!
Put down your Stupid Pills and finally see through the fog that McCain/Palin are LIARS, HYPOCRITES and FRAUDS. They stand FOR NOTHING except more of the same. THEY are REPUBLICANS just like BUSH. Christ, get off your asses and WAKE UP!

I know an organized rally when I see one. It doesn't detract from the power of it, but to pretend this has nothing whatsoever to do with Obama and nothing to do with Mrs. Palin as Veep is a disengenous statement, when I give you benefit of the doubt. Where were these clowns in her term as Governor?
♠♠...Bangkok Bob...♠♠ @ 60:

nothing will happen tomorrow....alaskans are big at protesting, which is why this was an amazing crowd
palin got less than 1k to show up for her welcome...doesnt seem like most in anchorage or in other parts care that much
uncle joe mccarthy @ 85:
Do you even know who the hell I am? I'm no Rove hack. Rove is a piece of political shit the United States stepped in. I know an organized rally when I see one.
Palin would be a disaster for the United States. Making the election about Sarah Palin is a damn good way to lose. We. cannot. afford. a. Repuke. victory. period.
I don't want Palin to win. This is a good way to ensure she does.
executive experience....'the holy grail'
obama.........nope
biden...........nope
mccain.........nope
palin...........20 months
i've heard the right mumble and grumble when you talk
executive experience why? mccain has NONE
With all that is at stake in this election, is anyone else shocked and awed by the amount of attention the "lipstick on a pig" comment has received? Where is the outrage? Specifically, where is the outrage from women? Are we going to sit idly by and allow the press to portray us as hyper-sensitive chumps more concerned with voting for our "own" than for the serious issues that confront us as a nation? Are we really going to allow the McCain campaign to use us as pawns in this game? Surely, we've come too far for that. The truth is most women know something about lipstick. Sadly, most of us also know something about pigs. Let's call this what it is.
Lipstick is: Saying that you are going to change the ways of Washington and throw out the lobbyists.
Here's the pig: Hiring a former bank industry lobbyist as your campaign manager and employing a team of Karl Rove cronies to use the same dirty tactics of lies and distortions as campaign strategy.
More lipstick: Saying that our lack of energy independence "has been thirty years in the making and caused by the failure of politicians in Washington."
More pig: Spending 26 of the past 30 years in Congress voting again and again and again (including two votes in this past year alone) against investments in renewable energy while proposing a $4 billion tax break for the oil industry.
Lipstick: Choosing a female running mate to help tap into the "18 million cracks" left by women who voted for Hillary.
Pig: Voting against a measure aimed at helping women achieve pay equity. Voting repeatedly against funding to fight and prevent domestic violence. Voting against extending insurance coverage to pregnant women and infants. Voting against $214 million for breast cancer research.
Lipstick: Using all of the imagery, rhetoric and running mates you can summon to portray yourself as a friend to the middle class.
Pig: Proposing a tax package which ignores 101 million Americans including 37 million seniors while offering $2 trillion over the next decade in tax breaks for corporations.
More evidence that Palin that charged rape victims for the exams used to collect forensic evidence. This is no joke - McCain is not healthy - there is a statistically significant probability that Plain will be the next president. Will someone at the DNC please, please, please get focused? Look democrats wouldn't impeach Bush, wouldn't challenge Alito - folks this is like a Cat-5 coming straight at the constitution and your right to freedom. What does it take?
She depends on her husband to make the tough decisions, hired her high school friends with no qualifications, fired librarians for not banning books on evolution and dinosaurs, charges rape victims, sponsored the bridge to no where, talks in tongues, supports Alaskan succession - where is the media that crucified Clinton? Have they suddenly found new sensitivity? Palin is a b*tch 10X over Clinton. I know people don't like a lot of links to show up in comments but here you go.
Crooksandliars needs to really dig down and focus on this - the election is all about Palin because if McCain gets diagnosed with dementia or dies from his black heart, she is our elected world leader. Jesus - could you ever write a more preposterous story? This is the sickest most cynical politcal maneuver ever. We have no respect left in the world.
C&L has really mellowed out - the music bits are nice, the remembrances are nice - but damn, this is f'n serious. You've got an audience, we all know its left wing - time to show that this site has steel balls and can push a story and get controversial with the best of them.
THe other night a stupid D-TV channel here in Texas had at least 30 minutes (I stopped at that point) on how Obama crosses his legs and whether that makes him gay. People, we are well past Lincoln-Douglas. Republicans have turned this into a freak show.

you know shit....which makes you a damn good repug
2 women, not connected with the obama campaign sent out a news release to all media outlets in the anchorage area...they also contacted the local blogger who runs mudflats, who also is not connected to the obama campaign
a right wing nutjob on a local radio station called the organizers "socialist, baby killing maggots" and released their names and phone numbers on the air
this pissed off a ton of people
that is why there was such a big turnout
before the idiot decided to try and have someone injure the organizers maybe a couple hundred wouldve showed up
anyway...it doesnt matter
lets say the obama campaign did organize this
this is red state alaska and this protest drew a bigger crowd then queen palin
the repugs are failures

Are you suggesting she was elected by acclamation? Some people voted against her. I'm guessing that would include at least some of the people at the rally. Some may even have voted for her and since become dissatisfied. In any event, I've never heard of a rally that wasn't organized in some fashion. That's the nature of the term. Unless ,of course you count riots. They tend to be a little spontaneous.
Roland @ 11:
Wow 1400 out of a total state population of only 600,000. That’s .2% of the entire population. It would be like 60,000 showing up for an anti-Schwarzenegger rally in California!
and poll information is taken from sample of less than one percent of the us population but i bet you place a lot of weight on them
Nomobull@25 and Miatch@30:
I was saying that 1400 was a GREAT turnout for a state of 600,000. I wasn't being sarcastic or putting it down. Sorry if I I didn't make that clear.
General_Rennenkampf @ 82:
I'm not ignoring other fascist movements and I realize Dominionism is for the most part an American movement. They are working on that.
And I think you are confused about Fascism. It is not from the Tzars or Soviet leaders. The soviet rule is from the left - Communism. Fascist rule is from the right. Think Mousillini or Hitler. (Sorry about the spelling.) As a matter of fact, the Tzars and their followers were considered "white Russia". The Soviets, who assassinated the Tzar were "red Russia".
constituent @ 90:
"Oh yeah, but that's 20 months more than Hussein..hyuck hyuck!!"
Say hello to my wingnut dad. That's what he said. I still love the dumbass, but I'm taking the air out of his tires on Nov 4.
Watching the Republican National Convention, I was impressed by Governor Palin's natural, layman's speech, that being her way of speaking. She seems to be an accurate representative of much of America- a parent undergoing the trials and rewards of parenthood, a worker experiencing the tribulations of a career, but most importantly, a person living life and attempting to make the most of what she has.
What I found repulsive was her disdain for others in search of proper representation of people here - rather in pursuit of representing people here. How dare she use sarcasm to devalue the thoughts of others regarding the fruitful progression of a nation. Anyone who cannot respect and honorably accept the beliefs of another, what's more many others (at least half the nation) cannot feasibly represent us.
Furthermore, publicly criticizing the venerable goals of others in a nation created to recognize the pursuits of all is an affront to our very existence. Insulting the past is one thing, but maligning the possibilities of a radically improved future is quite another.
The Church Lady Does Washington @ 92:
want the wingnut meme on this?
illinois still charges some rape victims for the kits....despite the fact that it has been against the law since 01 to do so
so here is what they do...palin isnt evil, cuz we found someone in a blue state who is as evil as she
god...they make me sick
General_Rennenkampf @ 1:
you missed the point.
the repugs are not going to allow this protest to air in SCLM.
How can you claim this is Obama's doing anyway?
CoIntelPro for Pronktastic Victory Over SCLM, DIEBOLD, ESS and SEQUOIA! @ 101:
cuz the general knows there aint anybody who can organize a protest except for obama
couldnt be that some people in alaska have a prob with the things she has done since becoming governor
uncle joe mccarthy @ 102:
you mean like the town that almost got her recalled?
or the women forced to pay for their rape kits?
Jo @ 97:
Yah, Mussolini and Hitler were representatives of the fascist movement. You attempting to insult me by telling me shit a third-grader knows? The fascists destroyed themselves in WWII, so the Russians provide the main model for large-scale autocracy. Unfortunate for them. Soviet communism, at least under Stalin, was little different from Hitler's goons. And the Tsars were junior league compared to Mussolini, let alone Hitler or Stalin.
uncle joe mccarthy @ 93:
Buddy, I don't want Palin as President. She'd fuck us over. Badly.
I dislike her even more due to her religious background. She's Pentecostal. They're heretics.
Why would I support an inexperienced heretical bitch like her? All I said was that this was an organized rally. No more, no less.
That right-wing radio thug should have a certain treatment that is against C&L commenting policy to mention done to him. All of them should. They're a stain on Democracy, and will likely make us autocracy much faster than it would happen anyway.
Sarah Palin sucks. We shouldn't elect her. One single quibble that I had, and this happens. Oy vey.
CoIntelPro for Pronktastic Victory Over SCLM, DIEBOLD, ESS and SEQUOIA! @ 101:
Actually the General is extremely well versed in religious dogma (his field of study I believe) and also matters of faith. And that is exactly what his assertion is: a matter of faith. Proof denies faith.
I was there with my dogs, one of which is an Alaska Woman.
uncle joe mccarthy @ 102:
God damn it, it makes political sense to do that! If I were running the Obama campaign, I'd do it. The more shit that sticks to Palin, the better off the country ends up being.
I don't even understand how a woman with the political experience of a novice could be Veep anyway. It mystifies me. And the thought of a woman who frankly could not be dogcatcher in a serious system as President scares the shit out of me at 3 in the AM when I can't sleep.
uncle joe mccarthy @ 100:
Actually, IL does not charge for rape kits. http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/9/9/124815/2904
Peter G @ 105:
Evidence justifies whether or not faith reflects reality, yes. This whole shitstorm started because of wishful thinking that Obama could show the political skills to show up Palin on her home turf. As it is, I have enough doubts the man can win as it is, which again, is absolutely terrifying to me. John McCain is Konstantin Chernenko, but instead of Gorbachev to succeed him, we've got Stalin.
CoIntelPro for Pronktastic Victory Over SCLM, DIEBOLD, ESS and SEQUOIA! @ 103:
Or the people in her administration wearing "where's Sara?" pins because she was absent so often?
StirFry @ 98:
Oi veh!
At least you still love him while disagreeing...
Will the water in Texas recede by Nov 4?
I'm still waiting for someone to show me that poll that gives Palin the 80% approval rating.
Everyone quotes but I can't find it anywhere.
Look at this resume - she is from Sandpoint Idaho!!!! Sandpoint is Mecca for Aryan groups!! Time to ask here when she stopped associating with violent white supremacists! No wonder the republicans picked her - she has been associated with hate groups and secessionist groups her whole life.
NAME: Sarah Heath Palin.
AGE-BIRTH DATE-LOCATION: 44; born Feb. 11, 1964; Sandpoint, Idaho.
EXPERIENCE: Alaska governor since December 2006; unsuccessful run for Republican nomination for lieutenant governor in 2002; chairwoman of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission, 2003-2004; served two terms as Wasilla mayor and two terms on city council.
EDUCATION: Graduated University of Idaho, 1987, journalism.
FAMILY: Husband, Todd; five children.
BUSINESS: Worked as sports reporter for two Anchorage television stations; owned with her husband a snowmobile, watercraft, ATV business from 1994-97. Husband is a North Slope oil field worker.
With a population shy of 6,000, Sandpoint rests at the tip of the Idaho panhandle, just south of the Canadian border. Agriculture, the arts, timber and tourism flourish there. Sandpoint is also in an area that many white supremacists have hoped would become an "Aryan" homeland.
Extremists associated with the Aryan Nations paramilitary Identity group are particularly fond of this scenario. Sandpoint is roughly 40 miles from the Aryan Nations compound in Hayden Lake, Idaho. The late Robert Miles, once the Midwest coordinator for that group, urged white supremacists to move to the Pacific Northwest to form a whites-only nation in the states of Washington, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming and Oregon. In 1989, Miles sold his Michigan farm and moved to Oregon. The leader of Aryan Nations, Richard G. Butler, moved from Southern California to Northern Idaho in 1973 and has encouraged whites to build a "national racist state" in the region. Many violent extremist criminals have affiliated themselves with Aryan Nations, including Buford Furrow, who attacked a Jewish daycare center in Los Angeles in the summer of 1999, and members of the murderous white supremacist terrorist gang, The Order.
The Identity group America's Promise Ministries, led by Dave Barley, is located in Sandpoint. In 1996, three of Barley's supremacist congregants went on a terror spree in nearby Washington State, bombing a newspaper plant and a Planned Parenthood clinic and twice robbing the same bank. Each was convicted on eight counts of robbery and bomb making.

Oh Damn.
That's the sort of thing I was afraid of.
We fucked.
I should say something about Alaska cause I'm living next door to it and north of 60. Northern Canuckistan is different but there are some things the same.
Sometimes the best term to use to describe N of 60 people is "redneck hippie".
Now you'll find hardcore rednecks and hardcore hippies of course but for most folks that have spent a few winters you kind of develop a relationship of tolerance with your neighbours as long as you and they pull your weight and are there to pitch in.
People are very close to the land. It's not just rednecks who go hunting up here. Lots of left leaning progressive people get their moose to. Why not, there's lots and its as organic as it gets. Lots of people are berry picking big time as we speak. You'll have enviromentalist who have staked and run a small placer gold operation and rednecks who have organic gardens. And you better know how to carry and use a gun cause there are big things up north that will eat you. My hippie friends are pro-gun and anti-war/bush. A gun is just a tool wether you hunt or not. Why would you not have a snowmobile up here. New ones are good on gas and you can use them 8-9 months a year. You can't realy label people as backwoods as you do down south. It's a bit different.
Most people up north don't do church either. Why would you when nature has given you a million catherdrals to spend your Sundays in. Sarah Paliban is in the minority in that respect. She's the car dealership person or the developer land pimp. The loud mouth can-do bigshot type. I would suspect that she's considered a bitch by many and has made many enemies. Seen her type before. We had our very own Mayor McCheese in the big town close to me. He took his cut. She just lucked out and got picked by McSame otherwise she'd do her turn as Gov. and then get out and do terms on a board of some oil developement govt/private gig with some new pavement on her driveway courtesy of some contractor she did good for. Nice life. And free health care for her family.
Hope for all our sake she does not get elected but just wanted to let you know that a lot of Alaskans are OK redneck hippes and I suspect will not vote McSame/Paliban. And Alaska women are way strong. and all C&L'ers should head north at least once. Good for your soul.
The Church Lady Does Washington @ 113:
My sister lives in Newport, WA (on the coast of Idaho) and works in Sandpoint. Politically, she says it makes Orange Co (CA), her former home, seem like San Francisco...
Doesn't surprise me it spawned Palin...
Arctic berrypicking Dude @ 115:
Appreciate the local perspective!
General_Rennenkampf @ 104:
i apoligize
but seriously...should we just kick back while she runs around the country spewing lies about her positions and history?
The White Witch of Narnia -- only instead of fiction she's a real fire-breathing End-timer. You know, the folks who WELCOME Armaggedon.
People need to be reminded that there is a reason for the wicked witch archetype, and it's not fear-mongering, it's a warning for the ages.
I'll be handing out Halloween candy in a few weeks costumed as the scariest monster imaginable: Candidate Palin.
uncle joe mccarthy @ 118:
No, but we should keep in perspective that if we beat the guy she's technically second banana to, we've beaten her, too. McCain first. Palin matters less.
The Church Lady Does Washington @ 113:
dad and mom come from sandpoint...she was raised in wasilla
dont know her parents political leanings
do know that she was baptized a catholic but the entire family became bible thumpers after moving to wasilla

On the coast of Idaho? I hope that was a joke. You are way to smart for it not to be a joke. Carry on.
General_Rennenkampf @ 120:

the polls are showing that the repug base has gotten excited because of her...not mccain
the polls are showing that indys are moving towards that ticket because of her...not mccain
no one listens to the old fuck...but they are listening to her
so fine...destroy the old man...they will still vote for him cuz they see themselves in her
it is up to us to make america not see themselves in the hypocritical moose hunter
Jo @ 74:
The crowd in Anchorage may have come from outside the state just to undermine Palin's credibility. Anything is possible with dem attack machine.
BTW, Jo, you seem to be an ignorant kid about theological matters. You need not fear the protestants, but rather Rome who has paganistic views.
Two ideas here. First, let's forward the link to the video to the networks and be sure to include Olbermann and Tweety. Second, see if we can start a register to vote youtube viral.
Arctic berrypicking Dude @ 115:
when it comes to pro gun...i see no prob with that...especially in alaska
most hunt for food....very few for sport
seems to me, most alaskans find sport hunters disgusting as it is wasteful..and they really do see a balance of nature
there arent many refineries up in alaska...reason being that the legislators wont vote for them...and they are mostly republicans
they really dont want their land despoiled...except for anwr...which they see as a big wasteland
kablooie @ 119:
An ex-girlfriend told me today that she is doing the same. I'm guessing it will be popular this year.
EZ @ 124:
ya...its really cheap to fly into alaska on a weeks notice for a few hour protest
they were all natives...but try again
fastfeat @ 127:
wonder what will be more popular
obama mask or palin specs
General_Rennenkampf @ 104:
The General seems to have been transferred from Huffington blog to spew about Palin. Who are you convincing, General?
We have seen the heights of capitalism and it has failed. We have failed in our foreign policy. Please wake JFK, FDR, Lincoln from the grave, soon to put order on this country. We need a reform and a reform of religious awareness. There is a scripture that says: What is the point in gaining the whole world and losing your soul.
Captain ENOUGH Kangaroo @ 122:
As someone who spent time in Newport Beach (CA) and Newport (OR), I too, assumed Newport, WA would be somewhere on the Pacific. Alas, it is not:

As long as those dressed in white sheets are meant to be ghosts, I'm not too concerned...
uncle joe mccarthy @ 129:
Depends on the party, I guess. We used to go to a party called "Hell Party" where you dressed up as someone or something you wanted to send to Hell. In that case, definitely the specs.
EZ @ 124:
Yes, Alaska - its so convenient to just drive up for a f'n 2 hour protest that no one will ever cover. Don't ya think we can handle that here in the lower 48?
Democratic attack machine - also laughable. If anyone can prove that DNC organized this protest and trucked up a bunch of people, let me know and I will send DNC $50 right now with a job well done note.
Ignorant of theological matters? Fear Rome and the pagans? Is this the rapture? Is it too late to take order my personal savior? Do they take credit card? If Palin (obviously no virgin mary) is going to start burning witches - does FOX get exclusive TV rights?
uncle joe mccarthy @ 128:
The general perception here is that Palin is going to rule America. It is a false perception. In reality, there are few men globally who are interested in the affairs of U.S. and to dominate the globe for that matter. Go back to history and find out for yourself during the dark ages, Rome was the culprit that was dominating social, religious, economic infrastructure.
In contrast, it was the reformists like Luther, Calvin, etc stood their ground and fought for human dignity and liberalism against paganism.
Palin's bible thumping christianity and her gender has caused such a tsunami that people are not focusing on the real issues.
If the dems are bugged by Palin's choice, I would rather have Mrs. Clinton on the dems ticket. Biden can be moved out. That would be tight race and legitimate.
General_Rennenkampf @ 62:
Obama and Biden are staying focused on McCain... this Palin stuff is a lot of grassroots feisty women in Alaska.
Biden was attacking McCains new tax on employer based health care today. While McCain says he will cut your taxes he also proposed that health care benefits from employers be considered taxable income. The average package is valued at around $12,000 and that is quite a heap to be added on to anyones IRS form!
Biden's comments today were the first I have heard of that and I checked with numerous watch dog groups and it is true, but the new organizations only want to talk about Palin and vet her the way the other candidates have been vetted and for now she is the story... not the issues unfortunately.
She hid her pregnancy. She is one twisted b*tch. Maybe the baby isn't her husband's. Have they done a DNA test? I heard she will do anything to gain power. Anything.
The Church Lady Does Washington @ 137:
Oh Paleeezzzzze not this crap again! What's next she had sex with aliens?
emma @ 99:
Well said. However, her voice reminds me of fingernails on a chalkboard.
Rasputin @ 138:
Good point. She does act like she is from another planet. Demand a DNA test. It is fair game - hide a pregnancy? Completely twisted in a Hester Pyrne sort of way.
The Church Lady Does Washington @ 140:
Obama and Biden are staying focused on McCain... this Palin stuff is nothing more than a calculated distraction from the real issues!

This election is the most important we have had in our life times. The hole we are in as a nation is too deep to let it degenerate to bullshit like Klondike Barbie. We should be having an intelligent discussion about the issues and the direction of this country/

I saw a picture of McCain and Palin and they were both wearing shirts that said "I'm with stupid"

It's gotta be at least locally newsworthy. This is the biggest political show in Alaska EVER! They will vote too!
A-women!
I live here in Anchorage and drove by the protest. I was amazed that many people showed up. However it wasn't so big because Dems organized it. It was meant to be a small protest by 8 or so ladies in a coffee shop. They sent out a press release to all news organizations in Anch. and a right wing talkm show host Eddie Burke KBYR 700 gave out the organizers home phone numbers and called them (leftist baby raping maggots?) and encouraged people to call them. Well they did with threats which apparently angered many here hence the large numbers. Saying the Dems organized anything in this state is a joke. It just happened
Remember "let's party like it's 1999?"
Well maybe we can this year.
