Fahrenheit 451 is this fall's "The Big Read" offering at libraries around the country. US readers can enter their zipcode here to find a participating group in their area. And yes, some libraries are also offering viewings (see a clip above) of Francois Truffaut's fantastic film adaptation from 1966, as well.

So, Johnnie McSame wants to do for health care what his gang has done for our economy? Here's his poster:

Good advertising.
i think this would be a good read for the troll i bumped into today on the maddow thread. i was up against
self-deception and perceived happiness.
One of Tony Alamo's churches was raided for child porn. Wall Street gets $700 billion in welfare. [I mean "economic aid", since rich white people can't possibly need welfare like lazy minority and poor white people.]
Did anyone here anything more about the Embassy bombing in Yemen? At regular times, people would be screaming "bomb Iran." As it is, it just passed by, without notice, seemingly.
Economists defend the bail-out, which probably means they should have their degrees revoked and given a giant "fail".

Sadly, Bradbury is a big supporter of RW policies and the war on terror.
Bradbury is overrated. Yes, I'm serious. Trailblazing for his time maybe but trite by any modern standards.
It's odd. Cheney appears to keep insisting the Vice President belongs to neither the executive nor the legislative branch*, yet Palin continues to squawk about her executive "experience" as the Holy Grail of qualifications. Sheesh. Republicans. Can they figure out their own ass from page 8? I wonder if Cheney plans to invite her on any hunting trips. The possibilities for amusing headlines are virtually endless.
http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/09/20/cheney.lawsuit/index.html?iref=mp...
A court has ordered ass wipe cheney to preserve all his records despite his contention that he is not part of the executive branch. Sounds like Addington should be held for professional negligence for giving him shitty legal advice.

Congressional Republicans "Warn" Democrats Not to Help the Middle Class. The GOP Believes that the Middle Class Must Help Bail Out Rich Risk-Taking Financial Corporations, But That the Republicans Believe Working American Families Deserve No Relief, Just a Bill for the Malfeasance of Wall Street.
Anchorage Daily News Editorial: "Gov. Sarah Palin has surrendered important gubernatorial duties to the Republican presidential campaign. McCain staff are handling public and press questions about actions she has taken as governor. The governor who said, "Hold me accountable," is hiding behind the hired guns of the McCain campaign to avoid accountability." 9/21
A former Fannie Mae executive has written to The New York Times in an effort to escalate Democrats' pushback to a McCain campaign ad accusing Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) of guilt by association with former officials of the mortgage giant. "I worked in government relations for Fannie Mae for more than 20 years, leading the group for most of those years. When I see photographs of Sen. McCain's staff, it looks to me like the team of lobbyists who used to report to me. Senator McCain's attack on Senator Obama is a cheap shot, and hypocritical." 9/21

I get very disgusted when I hear on the MSM how people are obsessed with what she's wearing. I mean we are in a financial crisis and in the nadir of our country's influence. And that's what the public is interested in?
I'm with you there. This woman is a thorn in the side of everything that is virtuous and right in America.
The sad thing is that she desensitizes real accounts of sexism with her presence in the election. From her ties alone, she's not a feminist. And it would be a grave mistake to assume as much.
All she knows how to do is to aim her gun and shoot.
And knowing the perspective of the MSM, you never probably will. That alone is due to subtle racism on the media's part, imho.
As a woman, this is a very hard issue to discuss. I know of women who have had many kids and still worked very hard with jobs and careers. But in Sarah Palin's case, she has the help of nannies and money to get by. Therein lies the difference.

The Landover Baptist Church is proud to be sponsoring America's Largest Book Burning on Satan's Birthday, October 31st. This will be the third consecutive year we have held the event. Last October, we had 152,800 American Christians show up for the event. We burned over 3.4 million books! That's right! Don't let the numbers dissuade you from holding a book burning at your local church this Halloween. Thousands of churches in America have collected millions of Harry Potter books to be burned that very night.
I wonder if Sarah Palin will attend or just send a video message.
StirFry @ 47:
The good news is that most Republicans are old and near death.
Thought some on you might be interested in the the mindset that you might be up against. Tell me how does one even crack it. What is frightening is that it is all too common among white trash enclaves who definitely will vote for Palin if they can get off their methanphetamines for the requisite time it takes. This idiot has the gall to use "honor" in his posting name!
honor works. : 2008-09-10 16:22:48
You idiots are too ignorant to realize that the policies of the Democrats you so adore are the ones that would keep you down and dependent on them. They crave power and if they getting it by allowing you to be a victim so be it. The only thing that will ever change things is personal responsibility from the men. Women put up with the man womanizer who impregnates many, deserts them leaving single mothers to struggle with working and raising kids on their own. These stories though tragic and criminal are examples of what this culture of playing victims has brought. Stand up, be honorable and you will get the respect when you earn it. This country will never be the Utopia you libs dream of. Don't like the US get the f-ck out. Many have shed their blood so you can bitch and complain. Shut up and get to work. Be Honorable!!!

I would have no idea why someone like Todd Tiahrt wouldn't want to read such a controversial book... /sarcasm

Hi, folks --
I saw the links here about Palin, and wanted to offer my two cents about her and the MSM coverage she has racked-up in the past few weeks. She spent months on McCain's list of potential VP's, but every network and news outlet was sorely lacking any information about her. Now they're doubling their efforts to know more. I'd love to know your opinion about how this has been handled by the MSM, and my blog about it is here, at Mojopost.

No woman was ever a bigger dish than Julie Harris.
Bush wants 700 billion dollars in order to save America of "further" financial turmoil. I said further, because I know things will get worse after this bail out takes place, if Congress agrees with it. The bottom line is: Bush, as a CEO is worth a shit. We know this looooooooooooongt time ago. What does a corporation does when its CEO is no good? Right! The CEO is fired or let go or whatever you want to call it. Bush and Cheney must go. Yes!! Congress should request their resignation as soon as possible. No bullshit about it.

How soon until Rove/McCane spin it into an endorsement of Gramps?
The global economic crash is imminent, and people are talking about Palin, Obama and McCain? Why? Think electing any of these people is going to magically make any of this disappear? The entire system is going to crash. Literally. It has now made the upcoming elections completely meaningless. It's a bit like finding a new penny on the road, and being oh so happy, just before a transport truck runs you over.
Sarah wants to burn books because burning witches is no longer socially acceptable, even in Wasilla.
MsJoanne @ 72:
If anyone can walk away and say that this woman isn't crazy after what you wrote deserves to be put in the rubber room right with her.
That was one of the most terrifying items I've read about this woman in this entire election season.
It is a crime that the MSM isn't covering this.
Bush and Congress agree to 800 BILLION bailout. This is enough to cover aproximately 12 cents on the dollar of the commonly acepted total of 6.6 TRILLION dollars in bad debt being carried by major banks.
About 80 Billion in money market funds was withdrawn last week. Is this the beginning of a run? Time will tell....
Bush says,
"We're going to work with Congress to get a bill done quickly," President Bush said at the White House. Without discussing specifics, he said, "This is a big package because it was a big problem."
and
Bush said he worried the financial troubles "could ripple throughout" the economy and affect average citizens. "The risk of doing nothing far outweighs the risk of the package. ... Over time, we're going to get a lot of the money back."
and
He added, "People are beginning to doubt our system, people were losing confidence and I understand it's important to have confidence in our financial system."
And this moron thinks he and Congress can fix the problem!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAAAAAAAAA!
Hey baseball fans: the last game at Yankee Stadium is being played tonight. So sad.
I'll never forget my Dad taking my older brother and I (leaving the other two home with my Mother) on the subwqy to a Sunday doubleheader each year. When Mantle, Maris, Boyer, Ford, and Rizzuto were playing. Later, I'd go with my brothers and wife in the days of Jackson, Nettles, Munson and Mercer.

The GOP have forgot one thing in fullfilling the bible profitsys, that is false religion. We have only had may be three if you count Koresh which was never charged with anything. At any rate if Bible is true and therer is going to be many false profits they means the Christian church's all fall in that category. Sorry for my bad spelling, on the fly.
Bradbury said he got his idea for this story when he was in a shopping center and saw people walking around with Walkman players and other listening devices; it dawned on him that there were two threats to freedom. One was a totalitarian regime making dissemination of information a criminal act; the other, abandonment of the print medium altogether so that the owners of the media controll all thought and discourse. He was prescient in so many ways!

Erm, sorry James but Walkmans were not yet invented when Bradbury wrote the book. Perhaps they had AM transistor radios to their ear listening to the game?
