Heelarious. Unfortunately, it doesn't matter how much of a joke Palin is because the number one rule of republicanism is that if you see a line, you are obligated to toe it.
I am hoping that $700 Billion falls from the sky on the Congress when they are voting on this heinous work so they and we can have a full appreciation of how much it is.
People with foreclosed homes still get screwed on the bail-out deal. Wall Street is deliberately exploiting the bad economy to jack up gas prices. Venezuela is asking for nuclear energy from Russia.

It was a matter of time that the McCain campaign yielded some American terrorism. Yeah, don't hold your breath on McCain publicly censuring Clarion Fund. He'd rather burn the country down to become president.
LONDON (Reuters) - People across the world think the U.S.-led "war on terror" has not weakened al Qaeda and many believe it has actually strengthened Osama bin Laden's network, a poll for the BBC World Service said on Monday.
But then, most of us have known this for 5 years. Why haven't those in power done anything? Because with the loss of the Soviets as the bad guys they had to have another big baddie to keep the American populace scared and shivering so they could go ahead with their plan of world domination (which has now failed miserably and left the USA in a very bad spot and ruined it good name)
Thanks to the Project for a New American Century and the NeoCon ideology that bush and cheney followed so blindly.

With respect to his campaign, McCain needs to liberate his running mate from the former Bush aides brought in to handle her — aides who seem to have succeeded in importing to the Palin campaign the trademark defensive crouch of the Bush White House. McCain picked Sarah Palin in part because she’s a talented politician and communicator. He needs to free her to use her political talents and to communicate in her own voice.

To everyone who has the time: Get to a battleground state before the election, and help with turnout. Remember, the Republicans are going to try to steal the election, but they can only do it if the election is close enough. Basically, this means that 51-49 for Obama in any given state is a win for McCain. We have to win with at least 53% of the vote, and probably more.
Turnout is everything, and even driving 5 or 10 more people to their polling place on election day can swing that precinct. While we've learned that not every single vote counts, the more people we can turn out, the less likely they are to steal it.

It's not just the "Republicans" or the "neocons" who do this, it's progressives and liberals as well.
"Progressive" blogs like to criticize everyone (as they should be able to), including Islam.
But, they keep approaching it from the point of view of Christian Americans. They simply don't know what it is like for a Muslim/Arab to live in post 9/11 America. Sadly, some Jewish Americans are capitalizing on the post 9/11 anti-Muslim hostilities because they think it would help Israel with its conflict with the Palestinians and/or Iran.
They invoke the first amendment whenever it suites them, but they forget that they're pouring even more fuel onto the fire. Why not approach the issue from a humanitarian angle? Can't these blogs, for example, promote understanding and tolerance among the various ethnic groups in the U.S.?
I can understand John Amato's desire to criticize the Christian right, the evangelicals. But, Christians are a majority in this country. It's a different playing field. When you become a minority you'll understand the delicate balance between the freedom of speech and contributing to the promotion of persecution.
There's an atheist liberal who loves to blog about religion, but he also blogs about Islam, mentioning how some cleric in Saudi Arabia has decreed that Mickey Mouse is the devil (or something like that).
"Dude" I'm thinking to myself, "you're not helping." That cleric is a total idiot and I agree with the blogger. But, think about your responsibility as a blogger when you disseminate that information. Think about the political environment we live in.
Do you think the release of that film and the gassing of the mosque are a coincidence?
Non-Muslims are going to have to make a choice (including many liberals out there), are you going to let others live and let live, or are you going to further contribute to the escalating tensions?
I really hope this country doesn't become like Europe, where minorities, especially "brown" people are treated with disdain and hatred.

With the help of comedians like Tina Fey, we've all just barely remained sane after John McCain unconscionably wagered the fate of our nation by selecting Sarah Palin as his soul mate. But while it is certainly funny to listen to the various parodies and lampoons, it can be altogether terrifying to notice just how little the impersonators and satirists exaggerate!
I know that one of the running jokes involves comparing Sarah Palin's interview answers to the now notorious one given during the Miss Teen USA pageant by the entrant from South Carolina. I would imagine that by now, no English-speaking, internet-savvy human being has not seen Miss Teen South Carolina on his or her computer and laughed at the comparison to Gov. Palin that immediately comes to mind.
Well, stop laughing.
Since Miss Teen South Carolina looked and sounded like a stereotypical, blond ditz, and Gov. Palin looks like the secretary from a porn mag (and sounds like who the hell knows what), it might simply seem funny to compare the two. Remove the audio-visual component, however, and we're left with . . . . . transcripts.
Read the following. Read the questions, and compare the answers. Compare how the answers begin by addressing the question, but quickly meander away, into a horrifying stream of unconsciousness, ultimately answering every question and no question. Compare as well the sentence structure (or lack thereof), not merely because both speakers ramble, but ramble in an eerily similar fashion, inserting odd phrases in the middle of already-begun sentences, in order to squeeze in everything bouncing around the speaker's head.
Question:Recent polls have shown a fifth of Americans can't locate the U.S. on a world map. Why do you think this is?
Miss Teen South Carolina: I personally believe that U.S. Americans are unable to do so because, uh, some people out there, in our nation don't have maps, and, uh, I believe that our, uh, education, like such as in South Africa, and, uh, the Iraq, and everywhere like, such as, and I believe that they should, uh, our education over here in the U.S. should help the U.S. or should help South Africa and should help the Iraq and the Asian countries so we will be able to build up our future. For our.
Question:Do we have the right to be making cross border attacks into Pakistan from Afghanistan with or without the approval of the Pakistani government?
Sarah Palin: As for our right to invade, we're gonna work with these countries, building new relationships, working with existing allies, but forging new, also, in order to, Charlie, get to a point in this world where war is not going to be a first option, in fact, war has got to be, and military strike, a last option.
Question:Some top Republicans and Democrats may not support this [bailout] bill if John McCain doesn't because it may be unpopular, and they're not willing to take the political risk. If it doesn't pass, what is the alternative?
Sarah Palin: The--- uh, the al--- as I say, inaction is not an option. We have got to shore up our economy. This is crisis moment for America, really the rest of the world also, looking to see what the impacts will be if America were to choose not to shore up what has happened on Wall Street because of the, the ultimate adverse effects on Main Street, and then how that affects this globalization that we're a part of on in our world, so the rest of the world really is looking at John McCain, the leadership he's gonna provide through this, and if those provisions in the proposal can be implemented and make this proposal better, make it make more sense to taxpayers, then again John McCain is gonna prove his leadership.
Question:Why isn't it better, Gov. Palin, to spend $700 billion helping middle class families who are struggling with health care, housing, gas and groceries, allow them to spend more, and put more money into the economy instead of these big financial institutions that played a role in creating this mess? [Come to think of it, Couric rambled a bit here too.]
Sarah Palin: That's why I say, I like every American I'm speaking with, we're ill about this position that we have been put in where it is the taxpayers looking to bailout, but ultimately, what the bailout does is help those who are concerned about the health care reform that is needed to help shore up our economy, um, helping the, uh, it's gotta be all about job creation too, shoring up our economy, and putting it back on the right track. So health care reform, and reducing taxes, and reigning in spending has got to accompany tax reductions and tax relief for Americans and trade, we've, we've got to see trade as opportunity, not as, uh, competitive, um, scary thing, but one in five jobs being created in the trade sector today. We've got to look at that as more opportunity, all those things, under the umbrella of job creation, this bailout is a part of that.
Miss Teen South Carolina was nervous. Miss Teen South Carolina had one shot. Miss Teen South Carolina had no idea what question she would be asked. And Miss Teen South Carolina is, ahem, a teenager.
Sarah Palin? Sarah Palin is a 44-year-old, more-than-once-elected politician who had prepped many times for her interviews with some of the most experienced political operatives in the business, and knew exactly what subjects she would be discussing.
Sarah Palin is asking to be the vice president of the United States.
For John McCain to have tapped this imbecile to take over should anything happen to him is enough reason to vote for just about anyone else. Republicans should not be worried about their ticket, and scrambling to defend Sarah Palin. They should be fucking furious with their nominee, and readying to throw him under that proverbial bus.
And everyone else should be frightened -- viscerally and with literal shivers -- about the future of our country. Our politics has reached terminal silliness, and I say that with a strong emphasis on the word terminal.
Awesome!
Can't wait to get high and watch it and laugh my ass off!
Now...if it actually happens, it would be more like a horror movie.
Someone needs to me a horror version of this.
In a world gone mad........... It's Sarah goes to Washington, SNAPU .... Situation Normal All Pucked Up! The Alaska Dog Sled Journal gives it 5 dead moose! Act now before Congress votes today.
The proposed law allows Paulson and the rich to steal and hold hostage the U.S. Treasury for many years.
I have read the proposed law.
Let me cut to the chase. The biggest robbery in the history of this country is taking place as you read this. Though no guns are being used, 300 million hostages are being taken. Make no mistake about it: After stealing a half trillion dollars to line the pockets of their war-profiteering backers for the past five years, after lining the pockets of their fellow oilmen to the tune of over a hundred billion dollars in just the last two years, Bush and his cronies -- who must soon vacate the White House -- are looting the U.S. Treasury of every dollar they can grab. They are swiping as much of the silverware as they can on their way out the door.
The law allows Bush and Paulson to pour money into foreign banks.

OK, I know the Collegehumor thing is a joke, but the scenario in the movie will NEVER happen. In the unlikely eventuality that McGrumpy dies, there'll be two assassinations--one will be Ms. Mooseburger, the other Nancy Pelosi. Heck, you think that the National Socialist Gas Oil Party will give the keys of 1600 Penn. to the Nancester?
1) one set of republicans vehemently opposes the deal while reid, pelosi and others march in lockstep with boosh
2) another set of republicans, those who are willing to negotiate, have the dems remove any relief in the bill for the mortgage holders

Yeah, that makes perfect sense. It's unrealistic to expect the cancer-ridden septuagenarian to die before reaching 80, but in case he does, it is realistic to expect the powers that be to stage the conspicuous murders of the Vice President and the Speaker of the House in order to hand the White House to Robert Byrd, a 90-year-old Democrat.
Please. President McCain's demise is the neo-theo-con's wet dream. It gives them President Palin, an female amalgamation of Bush's idiocy and Cheney's iniquity. She'll do whatever they tell her to do, and is a genuine End Times lunatic to boot.
I finally saw Get Smart yesterday at the dollar theatre, because that's all I can afford anymore, if that once you add eight dollars for a small popcorn and diet cola.
They only had a few topical references, but in one I thought interesting, is throughout the movie, people are surprised by how much Maxwell Smart knew about his enemies. He used to be an intelligence analyst. At one point he said it was important to remember that those they were fighting were people first, and then bad guys they had to fight. This knowledge even helped swing over a new ally.
I think it has something to do with having sex with relatives, especially close ones.
The line was 'seeing the movie is legally required, even in the case of rape and incest. Just like Sarah's position on having a baby, no abortions allowed, ever.

Greenland: roar of melting glacier sounds climate change alarm - http://afp.google.com/article/ALeqM5hZQ5s5aH7lFpJ9kDlyUmzF95jkWw
Flying low over the vast, white expanse of Greenland's Ilulissat glacier, one of the biggest and most active in the world, the effects of global warming in the Arctic are painfully visible as the ice melts at an alarming rate.
In the village of Ilulissat, 250 kilometres (155 miles) north of the Arctic Circle, colourful wooden houses line the shores of Disko Bay, its waters dotted with icebergs bathed in the golden light of the late summer sun.
The 4,500 residents have seen the effects of global warming with their own eyes.

Foreign banks and investors will be allowed to receive billion-dollar handouts. A large chunk of this $700 billion is going to be given directly to Chinese and Middle Eastern banks. There is NO guarantee of ever seeing that money again.
From talking to people I know in DC, they say the reason so many Dems are behind this is because Wall Street this weekend put a gun to their heads and said either turn over the $700 billion or the first thing we'll start blowing up are the pension funds and 401(k)s of your middle class constituents.

"Spending hundreds of billions of dollars on present and future wars that have nothing to do with our national security is simply obscene. And yet Congress has been corrupted by the military-industrial complex into believing that, by voting for more defense spending, they are supplying "jobs" for the economy. In fact, they are only diverting scarce resources from the desperately needed rebuilding of the American infrastructure and other crucial spending necessities into utterly wasteful munitions. If we cannot cut back our longstanding, ever increasing military spending in a major way, then the bankruptcy of the United States is inevitable."

Agreed. Godwin's Law is alive and well among the hyperbolic purveyors of such garbage. Irrational comparisons and correlations created to foment fear are, at their core, destructive. Both sides are guilty of this. Both sides invoke the Holocaust, and both sides are wrong for doing it. It feeds the religious messianism/persecution complex and, more importantly, it elicits money from the religious automatons.
John McCain learned nothing about torture from his captivity other than it provides a very good hammer/shield with which to attack or deflect criticism. Unfortunately, the memory of the saddest years in modern human history, the Shoah (Holocaust), is also being similarly abused. To say that it is 'cheapened' is true, but inadequate. It has been commercialized as well.

Yeah, I thought that was really interesting -- does Bush credit his electoral success with his smirk? (I remember him doing in the Texas gubernatorial debate with Ann Richards). Did Rove tell McCain to adopt it if he wanted to win?
I've been watching C-Span off and on this morning - they are carrying the House session related to the so-called "bailout" legislation. I'm surprised to hear a fair number of Reps, both Dems and Repugs, speaking AGAINST the bill. The vote won't happen for a while, and it is hard to judge the outcome, but it appears many reps are concerned about their jobs (that's the only reason they'd consider bucking the leadership) and are listening to their constituents.
I also note that about 99% of the citizens from around the country calling in to C-Span are very much against the passage of the bill. It might yet get interesting.
As a Jew (although completely secular, atheist, and rabidly anti-religious), I find it strange that Orthodox Jews, who have been reflexively mistrusting of Evangelical Christians, now spout the same rhetoric and propaganda as do these often anti-Semitic, Jesus Freak, right wing, creationist loonies. One shouldn't be surprised, however. Their core beliefs are almost identical.
That neither side seems to pay attention to what is being said about the other when out of earshot is strange.
I think I found somebody who can take Sarah Palin's place if she has to drop out. She's female, and she has some of the same experiences as Palin. She even has similar oratory skills. Check it out.

This is the America the Republicans envisage: The very type of place fundamentalist Christians tried to escape from when they moved to The New World. Where one religion is the state religion and all others are persecuted.
Orangutan. @ 10:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Question: Recent polls have shown a fifth of Americans can't locate the U.S. on a world map. Why do you think this is?
Miss Teen South Carolina: I personally believe that U.S. Americans are unable to do so because, uh, some people out there, in our nation don't have maps, and, uh, I believe that our, uh, education, like such as in South Africa, and, uh, the Iraq, and everywhere like, such as, and I believe that they should, uh, our education over here in the U.S. should help the U.S. or should help South Africa and should help the Iraq and the Asian countries so we will be able to build up our future. For our.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Question: Do we have the right to be making cross border attacks into Pakistan from Afghanistan with or without the approval of the Pakistani government?
Sarah Palin: As for our right to invade, we're gonna work with these countries, building new relationships, working with existing allies, but forging new, also, in order to, Charlie, get to a point in this world where war is not going to be a first option, in fact, war has got to be, and military strike, a last option.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Question: Some top Republicans and Democrats may not support this [bailout] bill if John McCain doesn't because it may be unpopular, and they're not willing to take the political risk. If it doesn't pass, what is the alternative?
Sarah Palin: The--- uh, the al--- as I say, inaction is not an option. We have got to shore up our economy. This is crisis moment for America, really the rest of the world also, looking to see what the impacts will be if America were to choose not to shore up what has happened on Wall Street because of the, the ultimate adverse effects on Main Street, and then how that affects this globalization that we're a part of on in our world, so the rest of the world really is looking at John McCain, the leadership he's gonna provide through this, and if those provisions in the proposal can be implemented and make this proposal better, make it make more sense to taxpayers, then again John McCain is gonna prove his leadership.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Question: Why isn't it better, Gov.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Terrified yet?
Now consider this:
Miss Teen South Carolina was nervous. Miss Teen South Carolina had one shot. Miss Teen South Carolina had no idea what question she would be asked. And Miss Teen South Carolina is, ahem, a teenager.
Sarah Palin? Sarah Palin is a 44-year-old, more-than-once-elected politician who had prepped many times for her interviews with some of the most experienced political operatives in the business, and knew exactly what subjects she would be discussing.
Sarah Palin is asking to be the vice president of the United States.
For John McCain to have tapped this imbecile to take over should anything happen to him is enough reason to vote for just about anyone else. Republicans should not be worried about their ticket, and scrambling to defend Sarah Palin. They should be fucking furious with their nominee, and readying to throw him under that proverbial bus.
And everyone else should be frightened -- viscerally and with literal shivers -- about the future of our country. Our politics has reached terminal silliness, and I say that with a strong emphasis on the word terminal.
This is exactly why people are not taking her seriously and this is why she is NOT ready to be VP
Friends,
Let me cut to the chase. The biggest robbery in the history of this country is taking place as you read this. Though no guns are being used, 300 million hostages are being taken. Make no mistake about it: After stealing a half trillion dollars to line the pockets of their war-profiteering backers for the past five years, after lining the pockets of their fellow oilmen to the tune of over a hundred billion dollars in just the last two years, Bush and his cronies -- who must soon vacate the White House -- are looting the U.S. Treasury of every dollar they can grab. They are swiping as much of the silverware as they can on their way out the door.
The law allows Bush and Paulson to pour money into foreign banks.
This knowledge even helped swing over a new ally.
In the village of Ilulissat, 250 kilometres (155 miles) north of the Arctic Circle, colourful wooden houses line the shores of Disko Bay, its waters dotted with icebergs bathed in the golden light of the late summer sun.
Foreign banks and investors will be allowed to receive billion-dollar handouts. A large chunk of this $700 billion is going to be given directly to Chinese and Middle Eastern banks. There is NO guarantee of ever seeing that money again.
From talking to people I know in DC, they say the reason so many Dems are behind this is because Wall Street this weekend put a gun to their heads and said either turn over the $700 billion or the first thing we'll start blowing up are the pension funds and 401(k)s of your middle class constituents.
William Yuan, a 12-year old boy from Beaverton, Oregon, has developed a new 3D solar cell which if it ever gets commercialized could seriously change the face of solar power. Though he was encouraged in his research from his middle school science teacher, this is no mere school science experiment: the Davidson Institute has awarded Yuan a $25,000 scholarship for his research.
Grandpa's pick of Palin speaks volumes about his "experience" and judgment....he could not have selected a worse running mate.
Thanks for the input Schlomo. I hope that you get a chance to watch the video.
IMHO when Ben Stein and Raphael Shore use the images of Hitler and Nazis to hammer home their personal message, whatever that may be, they cheapen the history of the Hallocaust. What I find most disturbing is there are many, although fewer survivors today, who want the horror of their experience to be told to the world without that message being watered down by cheap gimicry. Again thanks for the input, more discussion is warranted.
Radically Moderate @ 88:
Agreed. Godwin's Law is alive and well among the hyperbolic purveyors of such garbage. Irrational comparisons and correlations created to foment fear are, at their core, destructive. Both sides are guilty of this. Both sides invoke the Holocaust, and both sides are wrong for doing it. It feeds the religious messianism/persecution complex and, more importantly, it elicits money from the religious automatons.
John McCain learned nothing about torture from his captivity other than it provides a very good hammer/shield with which to attack or deflect criticism. Unfortunately, the memory of the saddest years in modern human history, the Shoah (Holocaust), is also being similarly abused. To say that it is 'cheapened' is true, but inadequate. It has been commercialized as well.
As for as the hesitancy surrounding the discussion of false flag terrorism and conspiracy theory bullcrap...
Matt Damon is laughing somewhere. The Republicans see a line, and want to snort it.
I've been watching C-Span off and on this morning - they are carrying the House session related to the so-called "bailout" legislation. I'm surprised to hear a fair number of Reps, both Dems and Repugs, speaking AGAINST the bill. The vote won't happen for a while, and it is hard to judge the outcome, but it appears many reps are concerned about their jobs (that's the only reason they'd consider bucking the leadership) and are listening to their constituents.
I also note that about 99% of the citizens from around the country calling in to C-Span are very much against the passage of the bill. It might yet get interesting.
As a Jew (although completely secular, atheist, and rabidly anti-religious), I find it strange that Orthodox Jews, who have been reflexively mistrusting of Evangelical Christians, now spout the same rhetoric and propaganda as do these often anti-Semitic, Jesus Freak, right wing, creationist loonies. One shouldn't be surprised, however. Their core beliefs are almost identical.
That neither side seems to pay attention to what is being said about the other when out of earshot is strange.
The Roman Empire changed because the people changed. Expect the same for USA if McCain/Palin are inaugurated in January.
I think I found somebody who can take Sarah Palin's place if she has to drop out. She's female, and she has some of the same experiences as Palin. She even has similar oratory skills. Check it out.
They're offering two for the price of none now at CBS. The newest installment of Katie Couric's hilarious serial interviews with Palin now feature Gramps sitting to her right. Saw a portion of it just now on Wolf Blitzer's Situation Room.
