"Oh you like that weirdo music, huh?"

Many a time I heard that as a teenager and even still now as my forties are coming to a close. Always proudly saying yes, it got me in a lot of situations. Some interesting. Some threatening. The best ones though were when someone says "Well, I've got something for you to hear."

That's how I laid ears on the Silver Apples first album from a people who lived in apartment above mine. They insisted I borrow their copy and listening to it for a weekend straight.

Released in 1968, it was close to twenty years old when I first heard it. It was perplexing. Sounding like something ancient yet also futuristic. It's closing in on being fifty years and that impression still stands.

No, I've never listened to it for a weekend straight as prescribed. It still does make it to my record player a couple a year though.

What are you listening to tonight?
