Olbermann's Factor Fiction

factorfiction080306.jpg

Earlier Media Matters posted about Bill O'Reilly and Geraldo Rivera going after the "smear merchants" and "vampires" that dare to criticize Mel Gibson:

On his Fox News program, Bill O'Reilly called Mel Gibson's recent anti-Semitic comments "inexcusable," but said it is "more important" to discuss the "point where the media and individual Americans start to enjoy the suffering of rich and powerful people." Guest Geraldo Rivera later suggested that O'Reilly refer to "that schmuck from MSNBC," apparently MSNBC host Keith Olbermann; Rivera added that the "schmuck from MSNBC" is a "lowlife." Rivera also asserted that Comedy Central hosts Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert "make a living putting on video of old ladies slipping on ice and people laughing" and that they "exist in a small little place where they count for nothing."

Well tonight we get the first rebuttal of this latest media war, with Olbermann responding in a segment called "Factor Fiction".

Olbermann really gets on Geraldo when Geraldo dares to attack Olbermann's ratings.

"I can't even get a rating? You (Geraldo) can't even get a primetime show"

Oh Snap! Hopefully Stewart and Colbert will have nice rebuttals tonight as well.

Ned Lamont on the Colbert Report

Stephen Colbert interviewed Ned Lamont tonight about the upcoming Connecticut primary.

Some rough transcript quotes from Ned:

"He (Lieberman) enables this President. The President has taken this country way off course."

"It's our obligation to stand up as citizens."

Ned did an outstanding job at handling the tough interviews Stephen Colbert gives. He was quick with the responses and presented his platform very well.

Frist Says: Staying the Course in Iraq

fristhannity0727.JPG

Bill Frist was on Hannity and Colmes last night to give his insight into the mid-term elections.

"We're for tax cuts. They're for tax hikes. We're for staying the course in Iraq and the War on Terror. They're for cutting and running"

So Frist reaffirms the Republicans' position of "staying the course in Iraq", while flat out lying by saying the Democrats want to "cut and run" from the War on Terror.

The best part comes at the end of the interview when Hannity gives his little commentary on the Lieberman/Lamont race:

"Republicans don't go try and torture someone who has different points of view like Senator Lieberman".

Of course, we all know who Hannity stands behind in the Connecticut primary.

FOX's Latest At Trying To Scare America

ChamDallasonHannityColmes_0001.jpg

With the increasing conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, the producers at FOX have decided to capitalize on the situation in order to strike more fear into the American people. Last night on Hannity and Colmes, Cham Dallas, director for the Center for Mass Destruction Defense, was helping with this fear tactic by saying such things as “sometime in the future there is going to be a nuclear weapon used in the United States and certainly a radiological device used”. He is also saying that there will be a nuclear attack by Muslim terrorists against Israel.

Dallas also shows a Geiger counter and says that they will be “fair in every American home” in the near future. Stock up now and keep yours with your duct tape and plastic.

On June 20, 2005 (a year ago)-Dick Cheney said that the insurgency was in it's last throes. He was talking to the National Press Club today and said:

Q: Do you think that you underestimated the insurgency's strength?

Cheney: I think so, umm I guess, the uh, if I look back on it now. I don't think anybody anticipated the level of violence that we've encountered....

He blamed Saddam's harsh regime for his miscalculation, but when no WMD's were found, many used that as a reason for invading Iraq. And then we have this:

In 1992 Dick Cheney said this after the first Gulf War:

"And the question in my mind is how many additional American casualties is Saddam worth?" Cheney said then in response to a question.

"And the answer is not very damned many. So I think we got it right, both when we decided to expel him from Kuwait, but also when the president made the decision that we'd achieved our objectives and we were not going to go get bogged down in the problems of trying to take over and govern Iraq."
