Norm Coleman Takes Another Job: Lobbyist

thumb_Norm_517a0.jpg

NJDC Website:

The National Jewish Democratic Council (NJDC) welcomes former Senator Norm Coleman (R-MN) to the fray as a consultant and strategic advisor to the Republican Jewish Coalition (RJC). ...By agreeing to serve in this position Coleman appears to have accepted the inevitable designation of Al Franken as the United States Senator from Minnesota.

The Republican Jewish Coalition's website, as of this writing, has a lovely header thanking President Bush and Vice-President Cheney.

Why

would there be a need for ANOTHER Jewish lobbyist in Warshington?

Abbybwood's picture

On "J Street". (AIPAC's nemesis).

boozemop's picture

you can't have enough fluffers for zionist oppression.

Truth B Told's picture

There are never enough Jewish lobbyists, according to Israel/AIPAC.

gee... Minnesota loses a Zio-Jewish Senator to go to work for a pro-Jewish lobby.

a Jewish comedian with strong ties to AIPAC/ADL becomes a MN Senator.

change? really?

"The Noive!!"

King Grape's picture

I wonder if Coleman will come up with a better euphemism than "drugged cockroaches" before Israel kills them all.

Truth B Told's picture

It is rather circular, agreed.

Andy K's picture

As if there aren't Jews who don't support Israel? Pro-Jewish equals pro-Zionist? Hell, does pro-Zionist even necessarily equal pro-expansionism?

ConcernedCanuck's picture

would any of these organizations require to lobby Washington for, except to keep Israel as most favoured nation?

Do you think that the Liberty Foundation would stop lobbying if Israel existed or didn't?

Jew=Zionist is a prejudiced assumption.

ConcernedCanuck's picture

the post is about the National Jewish Democratic Council? What other reason would they need a lobbyist? I'm not being prejudiced in my assumption. Would there be these groups lobbying if Israel didn't exist? No. Why would they? They are lobbying for special Israel love and cash and weapons. Prejudice doesn't really enter the picture. I don't think that AIPAC or the NJDC is going to lobby for aid to Iran or Turkey or an increase in bailout money for GM, do you?

rather than "Jewish" when you wrote, "...a need for ANOTHER Jewish lobbyist...," and,"...pro-Jewish lobby...," I'd say you're alright.

But there are Jews who are Zionists and Jews who aren't. And there are Zionists who are Jews and Zionists who are not Jews.

What's offensive is when you assume that someone espouses a particular taste based on their DNA. Do all black people just love watermelon? Are all the Irish raging drunks? Are all Germans...I'll stop myself before I prove Godwin's Law, but I think I've made my point.

boozemop's picture

The National Jewish Democratic Council and the Republican Jewish Coalition should change their names. Replacing "Jewish" with "Zionist". I think someone is barking up the wrong tree here. These two groups should be criticized for presuming to speak on behalf of a group of people because of shared DNA/religion/mother-in-law (take your pick).

Bluegal aka Fran's picture

or who have lived in Israel (and as a Brandeis graduate I have more than one)...none is a zionist, seeing Israel as destined by G-d to succeed, all are against expansion, and a couple are actually pro-Palestinian. Not all Jews or all Israelis agree with any of what is going on. Only the noisy ones who call those who disagree with them "anti-Semite", "self-hating Jew" or "Anti-Israel." Sound familiar? How long have all of US been called anti-American by people who want to shut us up?

jesus !you noticed that too?

boozemop's picture
Yup

I'm not as stupid as I look ..... but I'm close.

Truth B. Told

Bingo. Very well said. Simply another example of what little difference there is between the Democrats and the Republicans. As proof of this assertion, I would refer readers of C & L to two excellent books on this topic from two writers from the left- The Democrats: A Critical History by Lance Selfa and Savage Mules by Dennis Perrin.

Andy K's picture

and tell me why I think it's wrong- VERY wrong.

ConcernedCanuck's picture
Um

not sure. Please explain.

Andy K's picture

If he went to work lobbying for, let's say, the liquor wholesalers, would that still be too many Jewish lobbyists?

Oh, wait, I bet you're confusing Jews with Zionists, the latter not necessarily even Jews. But, like TBT's "a pro-Jewish lobby", I find it very interesting.

ConcernedCanuck's picture

I had a bad choice of words, sorry. What I meant was, what would Washington need with another Israeli lobbyist.....better?

I can easily see why there are people out there who are ready to hurl the term "anti-semite" around.

ConcernedCanuck's picture

Israel's actions the last 30 years, the term anti-semite is a ludicrous excuse, but I digress.

muse77's picture

The pictures of Darth and Shrub are frightening as hell and the topper headline says:

Kristol writes that George W. Bush's greatest achievement was "winning the war in Iraq, and in particular, his refusal to accept defeat when so many counseled him to do so in late 2006."

Congrats to Franken. Buh bye Coleman, you nut.

King Grape's picture

That's all this country needs - MORE ISRAELI LOBBYISTS!

They are an impediment to American progress.

Abbybwood's picture

Until ALL the absentee ballots are analyzed...AGAIN.

Or so I understand the decision of the MN Supremes.

They ruled in favor of Coleman and against Franken. And I don't believe Franken can legally be seated until all the freakin' dust settles on this fiasco.

Which means, this thing will drag on for a few more months.

Republican Jewish mantra: "Israel first, America second"

muse77's picture

From the Republican Jewish Coalition website:

Both parties back Israel - but Republicans back Israel more.

Daniel Pipes says the early Obama administration appointments should not alarm supporters of Israel, but notes also that "persons cool or hostile to Israel overwhelmingly find their niche in the Democratic Party."

Reviewing polling data about support for Israel among Republicans and Democrats, he finds that "Republican support for Israel is persistently larger, ranging from 20% to 38% more than the Democrats and averaging 26%."

http://www.rjchq.org/Blog/blogdetail.aspx?id=...

This other group called The National Jewish Democratic Council says that 78% of the American Jewish community voted for Obama.

Israel IS America.

And America is Israel.

Just sayin'.

I'm getting an extra smear of lox on my bagel tomorrow in celebration of Coleman's departure.

it's time to book my yearly appointment with Dr Pap-Schmear!

Make sure that your bagels are made by someone who has at least TOUCHED the Old Testament.

Seriously, I think congratulations to Senator Franken may be in order. Way to bow out gracefully, Norm.

Samson-'s picture

while this democracy-skewing lobbying outfit is most definitely NOT AIPAC, they are still israel-as-51-state-advocates

also, looking at their site, there seems to be some oddities, for instance:

Educating Jewish voters about the very real differences between their Democratic and Republican candidates for elected office through special reports and voter guides. NJDC has distributed more than 250,000 informational guides to Jewish households in recent election cycles.

that statement is from the NJDC web site... which the RJC is a faction of? so... this group 'educates' jewish voters about the differences btwn dem and rep candidates? *scratches head*

muse77's picture

I saw that and found it quite odd as well.

crime family for their "good job"? Some of the biggest corporations and banks have made BILLIONS off this administration and their corrupt dealings.

Shameless bastards.

icuira's picture

It's nice to know they are conceding that the Bush selection in 2000 was a fraud and this is just a repeat. I wonder why they didn't protest that one.

I thought there was a new rule a couple of years ago that you couldn't go from gov't to a lobbying job in less than 2 years. Wasn't that signed right after Ashcroft became a lobbyist and the timing was somewhat suspect in his favor? Or is my brain making things up again?

Dhalgren's picture

that we'll stop getting calls from the Al Franken Recount Fund? Al needs to understand that big legal bills are part of being a senator. Sack up, do some stand-up shows, and raise more cash. Enough of the friggin' phone calls from Nabraska!

webegeeks's picture

to use the 2000 Supreme Court appointment of Bush as the basis for disallowing the Minnesota recount rules?

As I recall, the action the Supreme Court used in 2000 was specifically designated as a ONE TIME deal and was to never be used again as a basis for election determination!

Now the rethuglicans are already trying to spin what happened and make it sound as if that is the basis to question any election result they aren't pleased with!

jnratliff's picture

is the only reason republicans run for office!

Maybe I'm wrong, I was under the impression that Senators had to wait at least 1 year before becoming prostitutes,I mean lobbyists!
Is Bozo the Clown Ex-Senator Coleman saying he's no longer a U S Senator? What about the 1 year waiting law, doesn't it relate to Coleman also?

He's the conquered worm.

Norm is a looser just like Joe(LOOSERMAN)Lieberman. "Do go away mad Norm, just go away."

Gee what a surprise , the two bit weasel is going to be a lobbyist and for Israel no less . Lobbying should be banned completely , but the whores in DC will never let that happen , not a chance .
