h/t to C&L commenters Old Billy and Trittydi.

Tonight's open thread is dedicated to Dagen McDowell, the FOX Business analyst who projected a bit today. On topic: the Twitter grapevine reports that "Kucinich" is Dagen's safeword. Open thread below...

Hmmm. Sounds like Dagen McDowell has been burned by love at least once before.

The "liberal" media tries to nitpick Obama's assertions about the economy. Human energy consumption is killing off birds. The mentally ill are being dumped
in nursing homes. Asian and Latin American cities see a rise in air pollution. Insurers try to pull a bait-and-switch to avert the dreaded universal health care by removing the separate and unequal higher premiums for people who already have ailments. The feds may have conceded on the corporate bonuses, but they still want to be majority shareholders in the business. The highlights of Obama's speech. A Michigan cop tasers a teen to death. Obama hopes for an exit strategy for Afghanistan. SCOTUS is not amused by an anti-Hillary movie. Prop. 8 donors hate being outed. A judge says underage teen girls must be allowed Plan B, and trashes the Bush FDA for sitting on the decision. The Urban League wants Obama to address African-American economic problems. BofA experiences a shareholders' revolt. The other exploited railroad immigrants. Jindal bad-mouths Barry while hiding behind his party.
Schumer flip-flops for gay marriage. Saudi clerics don't care about women. One million Sudanese could be deprived of food aid.

I love Monty Python. I started watching them in the 7th and 8th grade, every Sunday night on PBS. I had a thing for Carol Cleveland....wished she would spank me!

Maybe that's why I'm so preverted now!!!

liberalNmoderation's picture

I was a bit younger when I started watching Monty Python...and Benny Hill...I think it was Mr Hill's show that led to my being a prevert...that and I feel compelled to smack short bald men on their heads...
But yeah..Carol Cleveland...nice!

"Bravely Bold Sir Robin, brought forth from Camelot...."

Wow, a trip down Memory Lane for me. When I was 16, my best friend got HBO, which, in its infancy, used to show programs many times in one day. In this particular case - much to my benefit - it played The Holy Grail and Blazing Saddles back to back to back frequently for a whole month. By the time the month was over, we had a core of 10 people who had religiously glued themselves to the TV a la Rocky Horror each weekend with beer and pizza (my friend's parents were incredible liberal, as long as we didn't drive anywhere) such that we had each movie memorized. I still can recite most of each some 30 years later. Both movies are still in my top 5 - along with Casablanca, It's a Wonderful Life, and Jeremiah Johnson.

God, what things we are exposed to in our youth become such an influence in our lives.....

China considers other currencies to replace the dollar, while Obama won't take planted questions from reporters. The Post Office is broke.

Floridiot's picture

that the post office in the 17 and 1800's used to charge big bucks to send a letter comparatively to today , they could raise it to a buck and still be cheaper than back then

They should triple junk mail prices at least, that is where the losses are.

Bobbie's picture

The P.O. is way to top heavy with management. Mostly they push paper around to justify having jobs. If they cut out 2/3 they would have the number about right. Plus, every other month a new 'vice-president' office is created, usually doing the same thing the person promoted to the 'new' position was doing before. Only thing that chages is the pay level.

Also, the P.O. longer considers you or me important. Who is important are the big junk mailers. They kiss ass everytime some junker wants a good rate.

Bobby the Page Jindal in defense of his party's leader Rush Limbaugh says it's ok to hope Obama fails if it means America will succeed "The right question to ask is not if we want the president to fail or succeed, but whether we want America to succeed." http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/03/24/bobb...

This from the party that caused America to fail. Bobby the Page should be hoping his party fails and working to make sure his party doesn't succeed if that's the case.

Shadowgm's picture

Imagine someone spray-painting a racial epithet on your garage door. Most people would express concern, wonder who did it, and that the police catch them.

Instead, the media would ask, "Is it true that you're a *bleep*?"

And Jindal would be out there saying, "It's OK if someone called Mr. Smith a *bleep* as long as they wanted America to succeed."

Sheesh.

Personally, I think that Obama's move to Corporatism/Communism (yes actually look at the definition of corporatism and you will find that it is exactly what obama is doing, aw hell I will provide a link http://encyclopedia.farlex.com/Corporate+fascism) his policies will not only prove ineffective but disastrous to America, plunging us backwards in time until we are no longer viable as a nation and we start squabbling like a group of adolescents. This is not the future that I want for my country and my children. I hope that Obama realizes what he is doing and finds a way to fix the problems we are facing without destroying the country to an even greater extent that it already has been.

A major difference between conservatives and progressives - Glenn Greenwald - http://www.salon.com/opinion/greenwald/2009/0...
A rational citizen, by definition, praises and supports political leaders only when they do the right thing (regardless of motive), and criticizes and opposes them when they don’t. It's just that simple. Cheerleading for someone because they're on "your team" is appropriate for a sporting event, not for political matters.
Political leaders deserve support only to the extent that their actions, on a case-by-case basis, merit that support, and that has largely been the behavior of progressives towards Obama.

'War on Drugs' is as fake as the 'War on Terror' update: Commentary: Legalize drugs to stop violence | Jeffrey A. Miron, senior lecturer in economics at Harvard University - http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/03/24/miron....
Prohibition creates violence because it drives the drug market underground. This means buyers and sellers cannot resolve their disputes with lawsuits, arbitration or advertising, so they resort to violence instead. Violence was common in the alcohol industry when it was banned during Prohibition, but not before or after. Violence is the norm in illicit gambling markets but not in legal ones.
Violence is routine when prostitution is banned but not when it's permitted. Violence results from policies that create black markets, not from the characteristics of the good or activity in question. The only way to reduce violence, therefore, is to legalize drugs. Fortuitously, legalization is the right policy for a slew of other reasons.
Prohibition of drugs corrupts politicians and law enforcement by putting police, prosecutors, judges and politicians in the position to threaten the profits of an illicit trade. This is why bribery, threats and kidnapping are common for prohibited industries but rare otherwise. It is impossible to reconcile respect for individual liberty with drug prohibition.
The U.S. has been at the forefront of this puritanical policy for almost a century, with disastrous consequences at home and abroad.

Regarding violence and other crimes associated with drugs: don't forget that many crimes associated with drugs go unreported.

Often, the wife who is beaten by her paroled husband for interrupting his slide back into criminal behavior will not report him to cops or PO because she fears him returning to prison.

People ripped-off by a drug dealer will not report the theft of money (maybe part of their hard-earned paycheck) used to buy drugs, knowing that they will be arrested for engaging in a criminal activity. They then are more likely to commit crimes for that stolen money, or perhaps use money earmarked for other family necessities.

Legalization would minimize these associated unreported issues as well.

http://www.mediachannel.org/wordpress/2009/03...

I'm not sure if anyone will see this since it's so far down the topics of discussion right now, but I think this is bad news for the political process.

I'd be curious to see what others think of this.

Thanks.

government bailouts, they should not be endorsing any political candidate. I used to pay attention to (not necessarily agree with) newspaper recommendations when I was younger. Given the state of media in general nowadays, I think most recommendations from most are really irrelevant anyway.
