the (r)ight can't stand how popular obama is in the americas(central&south). making a huge deal out of obama shaking hands with hugo chavez. they just don't get it.
They get it. Chavez a socialist dictators rise to permanent power by spending unprecedented amounts of his country's money on social programs while at the same time we have a brand new left leaning president here in the states that has just spent unprecedented amounts of his country's money on much of which will go into social programs. Swapping books and shaking hands all chummy like.
S.S. a one time $250.00 payment.
Extension of unemployment benefits
24 billion to subsidize COBRA benefits for laid off workers
87 billion to help states with Medicaid
5 billion to weatherize homes
46 billion for transportation and mass transit projects
I was simply referring to the correlation between Chavez and the president. Constituent asked me what social programs had taxpayer money been spent on. I never said that was my “idea of socialism”. Lastly every time Rick that you resort to obscenities it makes you look wrong even if you’re right.
look obama was handed/inherited a financial crisis and economic crisis. much of what you mention here was voted by congress. i think can't remember i believe obama had been in office 4-5 weeks. he was advised by economists to be bold and spend. he didn't want to spend......he had little choice. this was handed to obama by the BUSH administration. the
BANKs completely stopped lending hurting small and large business consequently people were laid off. i didn't like the TARP and/or budget stimulus but again the double crisis was handed to obama. remember the stimulus checks BUSH gave out last yr. over 152 billion. that hand out did close to nothing. record number of people are becoming unemployed losing their healthCare insurance that will burden public programs. the notion that obama is the primary reason for this spending is ridiculous. BUSH racked up a huge deficit in the name of fiscal responsibility. why's BUSH stimulus" booster" any different?
I do remember the "stimulus checks BUSH gave out last yr" totaling around 152 Billion. One of the headlines today was Treasury says about $110B left in bailout fund. That’s left after all this massive spending. First of all I agree with need for stimulus but you can't tell me last years checks to everyone BTW compares with the bailout/stimulus spending this year. So where are all the shovel ready jobs? I drove all the way to work this morning and did not see one single worker with one single shovel. Did you read the stimulus PDF I read some of it more of it that congress did I bet. There are tons of non - stimulus social type spending allocations there. You look, it is well documented the president believes in wealth distribution which is a socialist ideal just ask your buddy Hugo also well documented is the president’s far left policy stance. The left tends to follow along with socialist ideals and tend to be heavy on social programs.
He dare said publicly that Bush was a criminal. Calling him the 'Devil' made me an admirer of the man, personally, but gets the rightwingers panties all bunched up.
A legally elected socialist who has a legitimate claim that the CIA tried to intervene in an election that he would ultimately win.
Bush was appointed. Bush set up a fascist regime controlled by corporations. I would accept the socialist agenda before I would accept the facsist agenda.
Chavez wasn't the only one on the ballot and the elections have been monitored. So, what do you have to say now? You might take a little time to research. Go to google and look up "The revolution will not be televised" and you might get a real education instead of using talking points of the Faux news.
So we charged in guns ablazing killing hundred of thousands of Iraqs, destabilized the area, amassed massive wealth for Cheney/Bush friends, and we... um, wait, what the hell did we do there? What was the fucking reason that we were there again?
So while Osama goes off to plan another attack, we are stuck swapping our blood for the gold of war profiteers.
You think that was somehow noble? Do we need to chat about torture, the mercs, or lethal showers?
I can not believe that you are so freaking stupid to still support these criminals.

Good to see nothing has changed, couple of thousand petty protesters in the street, and the FBI machine goes into guilt stricken panic mode. Gotta love democracy in action.
First of all, they are merely winding down until the end of their contract, which they have already been told would not be renewed. I think their last contract doesn't end until September.
Nice of them to change their name to Xe... murdering bastards need to be hung.
It is a fucking mess in Iraq and to assume that it could be cleaned up in a matter of a few months is probably a bit unrealistic.
The bigger question for me is why in the hell are we hiring Mercs? Can't this job be done by either military or state department personnel?
Sigh....
There are just so many things that were fucked up by the Bush Admin with regards to contractors, Iraq and pretty much every thing else. Its hard work getting rid of that much slime....
RickBeagle: The bigger question for me is why in the hell are we hiring Mercs? Can't this job be done by either military or state department personnel?
Near the end of Bush Sr's term, SecDef Cheney commissioned Halliburton (to the tune of $5.4 million) to conduct a study to determine whether it would be cost-effective (save taxpayer's $$$) to eliminate numerous full-time military positions that are needed only in time of war, and use military contractors to perform those war-time functions.
And guess what Halliburton decided? Yup! You got it!
And then, in the following years, Halliburton CEO Cheney (surprise!) acquired Bush Family Military Contractor Kellogg and merged it with Halliburton's Military Contractor unit Brown and Root to form Kellogg, Brown and Root - KBR.
I think you know the rest of the story.
When will government of the people, by the politicians, for the corporations perish from this Earth?

I have a plan to get the HR 676 enacted and more.
Get people to Send a free prewritten fax to Sen. Minority leader Mitch McConnell telling him to STOP EVERY REPUBLICAN FILIBUSTER, get the Employee Free Choice act enacted into law, along with single payer universal health care, a fix for the Medicare Prescription drug benefit, a 10 dollar an hour minimum wage, an end to the Iraq war and until that happens you will boycott some Republican campaign contributors.
You can go to http://action.democratz.org and send Mitch McConnell a free prewritten fax. This web site appears completely noncommercial. I don't sell anything there.
We have to hit the friends of the GOP in their wallets. Oh and if you only send your fax, this will fail. You need to get friends to send the fax and have their friends send the free fax and so on.
Thank you!
PS the prewritten fax reads thusly:
Hello
I want the following actions taken
and legislation enacted into law.
Congress and the President must
enact HR 676 single payer universal
health care and set up a new
prescription drug benefit in
Medicare Part B covering 80% of the
cost of all drugs with no extra
monthly premiums, no extra yearly
deductible, no means tests, no
coverage gaps, and remove the means
test for Medicare Part B and until
that happens, I won't buy ANYTHING
from Republican contributor
Rite Aid Pharmacies.
The President must end the war in
Iraq and until that happens
I will not buy any products from
Republican contributor and War
contractor General Electric
Corporation.
Congress and the President must
enact a $10/HR MINIMUM WAGE
into law and until this happens
I will not go to any Republican
contributor Wendy's Restaurants.
In 2008 Brown-Forman of Kentucky,
the maker of Jack Daniels Whiskey
and Southern Comfort gave Mitch
McConnell money for his campaign.
SENATOR McCONNELL MUST NOT
EXECUTE ANY REPUBLICAN
FILIBUSTERS FOR 8 YEARS
DURING THE OBAMA PRESIDENCY
AND MUST GET THE EMPLOYEE
FREE CHOICE ACT ENACTED
INTO LAW AND UNTIL THAT
HAPPENS I WON'T BUY JACK
DANIELS WHISKEY OR SOUTHERN
COMFORT OR ANY OTHER OF THEIR
PRODUCTS.
The World is like a ride in an amusement park, and when you choose to go on it you think it's real, because that's how powerful our minds are. And the ride goes up and down and round and round, and it has thrills and chills and is very brightly colored, and it's very loud. And it's fun, for a while.
Some people have been on the ride for a long time, and they've begun to question, 'Is this real, or is this just a ride?', and other people have remembered, and they've come back to us and they say 'Hey, don't worry. Don't be afraid, ever, because this is just a ride.' and we KILL THOSE PEOPLE.
"Shut him up! We have alot invested in this ride! SHUT HIM UP! Look at my furrows of worry. Look at my big bank account, and my family. This just has to be real."
It's just a ride.
But we always kill those good guys who try and tell us that. You ever noticed that? And let the demons run amok. But it doesn't matter, because ... It's just a ride.
And we can change it anytime we want. It's only a choice. No effort, no work, no job, no savings of money. A choice, right now, between fear and love. The eyes of fear wants you to put bigger locks on your door, buy guns, close yourself off. The eyes of love, instead see all of us as one.
Here's what we can do to change the world right now, to a better ride:
Take all that money we spent on weapons and defense each year and instead spend it feeding, clothing, and educating the poor of the world, which it would many times over, not one human being excluded, and WE CAN EXPLORE SPACE, TOGETHER, BOTH INNER AND OUTER, forever ... in peace.
and even if we win, if we win, hah! even if we win! even if we play so far above our heads that our noses bleed for a week to ten days; even if god in heaven above comes down and points his hand at our side of the field; even if every man woman and child held hands together and prayed for us to win, it just wouldn't matter because all the really good looking girls would still go out with the guys from mohawk because they've got all the money! it just doesn't matter if we win or we lose. it just doesn't matter!
I have nothing to support my theory, but I suspect that Cheney was disappointed at how quickly the war was winding down after the initial invasion. After all, this war was simply a way for Cheney to funnel money into the pockets of his old war profiteering buddies (and himself), and a quick end would freaking upset the war mongering backers.
In support of my theory, I present the following: 1) the absolute horrifyingly stupid decision to disband the Iraq army, 2) Gitmo, 3) blatant torture, 4) total disregard to an apparent Iraq civil war, and of course 5)sending in less troops than were requested by the most experienced and highest ranking expert in the field (cough, and then retire him). You either have some really intelligent and experienced people showing some blatant incompetence or perhaps we missed it, this was a willful attempt to prolong and profit from this war.
and so much, much more that is still hidden. Possibly forever.
Wily, slick President Cheney (complete with the goofy little puppet at his side) took your country, and the world, for one hell of a ride from which none of us will ever escape.
The days are ticking by, people are getting away with murder and torture, yet the status quo remains ...
dennis kucinich was and is the man! hes the one america should have wanted as president, the day the news whores and corporations threw this guy under the bus was the day i said fug the democrud party, instead of honest government they jammed two repiglites under our nose clinton the lady who sheds tears on cue and a one trick pony who gives good prepared speaches and whos really for something untill the corporations tell him hes not!

Obama mocks GOP criticism
by kos
Mon Apr 20, 2009 at 05:14:04 PM PDT
Very nice. Conservative criticism of Obama's foreign policy approach is so patently ridiculous, that he's now openly mocking the wingers freaking out over his handshake with Hugo Chavez.
"Venezuela is a country whose defense budget is probably 1/600th of the United States’. They own Citgo. It’s unlikely that as a consequence of me shaking hands or having a polite conversation with Mr. Chavez that we are endangering the strategic interests of the United States. I don’t think anybody can find any evidence that that would do so. Even within this imaginative crowd, I think you would be hard-pressed to paint a scenario in which U.S. interests would be damaged as a consequence of us having a more constructive relationship with Venezuela."
Greg Sargent:
It’s worth recalling that there was a time when Dems would quake with fear about national security attacks coming from the right, let alone respond to them with outright mockery. In this sense, Obama’s tone underscores how much the political climate has shifted on such matters.
It’s also a sign of his confidence that the public is with him — and has little trust in the Republicans — even on questions of national security. He appears to feel on solid enough ground that he can respond to the basic ideas underlying Republican efforts to depict him as weak with little more than contempt and derision.
Me, I'm still chuckling at "this imaginative crowd".
so cheney is complaining that Obama is going to places and saying things. Places that soon [after the warrants issue] Cheney won't be able to go. Cheney's place in history as the worst of the worst of the worst is becoming more and more assured with each passing disclosure.
let 'em know you know the rumors aren't true -they're family has done nothing but perform honorably through the ages in service of the good of humankind.
let 'em know you don't believe the internet rumors about any sort of "new world order".
let 'em know you don't consider them vampires, figuratively OR literally.
I really don't want to be a killjoy, but, how many of my fellow liberals have noticed an absolute silence from this administration pertaining to the reversal of the patriot act and the military commissions act. How far can this country progress with these two ridiculous laws still on the books?
I'll go all in on this one , bcs its a better bet than w/ a pair of Aces . If JANE HARMAN talked to ARAB Agents or spies ( instead of wiretaps catching her conniving w/ AIPAC , arm of Israeli Intelligence ) to help them get their fellow convicted AIPAC agents convicted of spying on the U.S. a better deal & probably other favors , CNN / Wolf Blitzer would be howling from the ceiling , ARABS SPYING on America , but since it involves Israel , complicit CNN turns on the filter machine , & hides the story .
Now having not reporting the scandal all day , he conveniently invites the accused traitor opportunity to spin her version , but its not surprising CNN stopped mention Gaza months ago , even though the human catastrophe continues , block aid of aid, water filtering systems continues and killing of Palestinians continues , but CNN's dehumanizing of Arabs & protecting AIPAC & Israel is typical .

and even if we win, if we win, hah! even if we win! even if we play so far above our heads that our noses bleed for a week to ten days; even if god in heaven above comes down and points his hand at our side of the field; even if every man woman and child held hands together and prayed for us to win, it just wouldn't matter because all the really good looking girls would still go out with the guys from mohawk because they've got all the money! it just doesn't matter if we win or we lose. it just doesn't matter!

Okay, what do you think?
and so much, much more that is still hidden. Possibly forever.
Wily, slick President Cheney (complete with the goofy little puppet at his side) took your country, and the world, for one hell of a ride from which none of us will ever escape.

Obama mocks GOP criticism
