Why would someone make this shit? It's as likely to come back and bite an evil scientist in the ass- and that's if the virus isn't fought off by human immune systems before it lays them up in bed, or if it doesn't mutate itself into something trivial.

WASHINGTON, DC - The growing threat of global pandemic resulting from Swine Flu has health organizations worldwide searching for an origin. But Republicans already have their theory - Pig World Domination!
With even the White House susceptible to the airborne, human-contact-spreading, continually-mutating, dozens-infecting new strain of animal born flu, the World Health Organization raised the threat level of global pandemic to 5, the second highest level. With this, the WHO declared that the possibility of a global pandemic is not just possible, but so very very likely to happen.
Republicans gathered behind closed doors Wednesday to discuss the issue and how they can best serve their constituents in light of the Senate’s approval of Kansas Governor Kathleen “Oh So Liberal” Sebelius as the President’s Secretary of Health and Human Services.
Their findings on the origin of the outbreak, while surprising, are well researched and the only logical cause of the disease: a global conspiracy of pigs to undermine the international economy causing panic, famine, war and, naturally, pestilence in order to eventually overthrow mankind, enslaving the human race and assuming top of the food-chain status.
“We are here to say that we are on to your games, porkers, and while you have sickened more than a few dozen people, we will fight you to the death and eat you in victory,” Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky said in a written statement addressed to “Failed Pig Overlords.”
“It is clear that the pigs are seeking revenge for centuries of satiating humans with their delicious meat, succulent innards, and general finger-lickin’ good suckling roasted piglets,” McConnell’s statement continued.
“We don’t know yet how exactly they first passed their heinous flu virus to humans, but now that we know their intent and the extent to which they are willing to go to achieve their horrible goals, we can better act to stop it.”
McConnell’s statement, undersigned “Righteous Republicans for Human Dominance,” sent a shock wave throughout a world eager for answers and vaccines.
“I have no intention of going to Mexico, or Canada, or Spain, or New York, none of those places where the pigs are already taking over,” Mississippi resident Mary Beth Dingler wrote on a blog dedicated to spreading up-to-the-minute information about the conspiracy. “My cousin a few towns over had a pig farm, but soon as she heard what they planning, she took care of them pork chops.”
Others however, were not as quick to accept the Republicans claims of a united global swine uprising.
“The Republicans are always on the look out for the latest conspiracy to overthrow mankind,” Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL) told reporters. “First it was the killer bees swarming en mass from Africa to enslave humans in honey trafficking.”
“Then, Asian birds dropping flu from the skies to make mankind their two-legged land-steeds.”
“I refuse to believe that pigs are behind this latest pandemic. I’ve read Animal Farm, I know pigs are smart, but why would they even want to enslave mankind? Pork is delicious, even pigs cannibalize their own, they know they’re totally yummy.”
Durbin added, “Humans aren’t delicious. Not that I would know.”

You know, "Michelle Mania?" The one that was supposed to shed light on how she will change the roles for women via her being First Lady?

Half the frickin' program was literally devoted to what Mrs. Obama wears. Don't get me wrong, I'm an indie fashion designer, so obviously I love fashion, talking about it, etc. But it bothered me that they spent so much time on the subject. It felt inappropriate as far as the subject of women's changing "roles." Plus there was something about hearing Larry go on about how ladies look great in hats and Michelle should take up wearing them too that made me wanna bang my head into a wall... :)

I've never seen change without a fire

Edwin's picture

It's hit and miss with Larry. I like him if he has a good guest on and I learn something, or they are at least interesting. I realized, after The Anna Nicole Smith Story, part XXXIV, he doesn't always deliver. That's when I change the channel, or just turn it OFF.

Normally I don't bother with Larry, but I had been interested in what they would say about Mrs. Obama (I had hoped it would the substance aspect, not the style). Oh well, I'll remember to pass up watching next time. :)

I will not watch CNN any more. I find it too centrist. The Democrats on the shows appear too centrist too.

I watch CSPAN for my political news. I watch NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams for regular news.

proudlyprogressive's picture

CNN is totally a Fascist Mouthpiece, it is not 'Centerist' at all. If that is 'center' for you, I can't even begin to imagine where you are coming from.

Edwin's picture

My access to English TV is somewhat limited, and I'm somewhat a hermit (in my free time) anymore (by choice). Sadly, TV is too much my friend, but I tire of Seoul.

I have cable movie channels, but a lot of the movies are crap. And they show a lot of those CSI shows, and CSI-type shows, which I don't care for. And now they've added "24" which I simply DON'T watch. So sometimes Larry looks pretty good (especially when I'm cooking dinner).

I get all excited if there's a movie like "Elizabeth, The Golden Age." (not sure that's exactly correct title)

Sometimes it's just nice to hear conversation IN ENGLISH!

CNN is centre right (or worse) in my book, but I watch to see which lies are au courant. I also get BBC International, which is better, but still corporate. The Doha debates are good, and sometimes Hardtalk.

"If the US government enforced its banking laws like it did its park regulations, we wouldn't be

proudlyprogressive's picture

Seoul doesn't sound too bad at all. I'm a bit of a hermit by choice, too. I hear Spanish all around me, but since I learned Spanish, I prefer to hear that. Here, other Americans who ex-patriated get together on Sun. AM for breakfast. My cable has Spanish movies that come from the 30's and 40's and I also get Turner Classic Movie Channel, so, see a lot of the really antique American movies, too. Here, CNN is in Spanish, but since they put Cheney on, I have dropped them completely.

Edwin's picture

To respond is one of those where-to-begin things. I don't want to trash Seoul, and I have no problem with Koreans, but after 12 years I've had enough. The first year or two was exciting. I'll just say, it is extremely crowded (about 23,000,000) and the people are volatile and noisy (hotheads); not a good combination. For it's size, I find it somewhat provincial too; very blinkered, but you won't notice that in your first year, not with all the flashing lights, busy streets, and new stuff to see. And, I love being in Asia!!! And all the travel I've done in Asia!!! Asia is very interesting, and I'll be back, for double sure (but maybe Thailand or Japan).

When I do get together with other expats, it's not uncommon for some kind of a bitch-fest-about-Korea to erupt, which I'm not into. I've noticed, short of a few good friends, most people talk about nothing, and it bores me. I've come to enjoy long hours of peace and solitude; never boring, not in the least.

I filled my spare time by studying yoga and getting my yoga-teaching certificate. That took 6 years. That's over now and I am planning to move to Prague this summer.

I have had a good life here, yet still want to move on. I seem to continually re-invent myself. Must explore: time to pack my bag, again.

(By all means, if Seoul appeals, give it a whirl yourself. It's so very different from the West!!)

I promise not to write a book about it, but certainly could!

Annaleigh's picture

I work in fashion. I design jewelry. Obviously I don't mind discussing fashion. It's the fact that this was trumpted as some serious discussion about how Mrs. Obama will impact the lives of us women, and instead a long fashion discussion is all we got.

Trust me, I'm not objecting so much to fashion or a fashion discussion, I'm only saying there's a time and a place for it, and I felt this wasn't it.

Iran's looking into doing something about that reporter. College is too expensive. Barry's tax breaks might not be validated by the IRS.
Nevada's governor hates blacks and Mexicans voting. Congress has been enabling overseas corporate tax shelters since the Kennedy Administration. Maine's Senate okays gay marriage. Will the Gitmo kangaroo court still be in effect under Obama? The Patriot Act ironically classifies refugees as terrorists. Gates doesn't mind shaking his fist at Iran. SCOTUS weighs life sentences for minors. It's also soft on identity theft and evaluating Janet Jackson's nipple. It also has no problem with limiting damages for chemical dumping. Oh, and it hates the Civil Rights Act. Bayer looked the other way on its plant explosion. The Army tackles recruit suicides. Senators want to expel junk food from schools. Iraq's not going to extend the pull-out date. Another nuclear plant laspe. The Saudis are finally reconsidering child marriages.

Just have to share this. I met one of those 30%ers that adore Bush, believe there were WMD's and that Obama is destroying the nation. I couldn't believe it. I let the lady ramble on BUT I had to stop her and tell her Iraqi's DID NOT kill anyone in this country.

In addition to all this she believes Obama is going to bankrupt the nation while Bush only spent what was necessary to defend the nation.

Geez, I always wondered about that 30% approval rating. BTW the lady was 75 and very nice, other than her hatred of all things Obama.

This time it was 1954.

Popular music, the new cars, movies made that year.

And this.

Well worth watching.

For one it's recent American history. For two, it shows the manipulation of American public opinion to back an illegal war (just like 2003 Iraq). And for three, it includes a video clip of E. Howard Hunt, the CIA officer in charge of the coup, saying in so many words that the purpose of the CIA bombing was to terrorize the population. American terrorists at work.

Love this btw:

"NO TEA FOR ME
32% of the people who live in the Atlanta metro area are African American.

This is 1.6 million people. Many of them pay taxes too.

So how come I only saw a handful (as in less than ten) of black people in the crowds around the Capitol building in downtown Atlanta last night as Sean Hannity did what he does best - play to the lowest common denominator of the human condition, the ability to hate?

Because they knew damn well that when Hannity, our own Neil Boortz, and the rest of the talk radio got together at their "HATE THE NEGRO/MUSLIM/SOCIALIST/COMMUNIST/ PRESIDENT" rally, taxes were just the pretext.

Because they realize that when there are too many Ex-Crackers standing around loose, getting riled up by a few white guys like Hannity who are pretending to be Ex-Crackers to get their "hate" cred up to par, bad shit is likely to happen."

But not just the blacks. Where were the Indians? The Asians? The Mexicans? Are white people the only people in the country who pay taxes?

I'm just glad they're doing this out in the open. It's when these son of bitches disappear all of a sudden that you need to worry.

Nope. BUT, there are some white people that are poor and stupid and think they would be better if they didn't pay taxes. Bet there weren't too many wealthy people at the tea parties either!

If, as Dick Cheney and others are now claiming, torture "saved American lives", why did they stop using it years before Obama took office?

Paul Krugman: Falling Wage Syndrome - http://www.nytimes.com/2009/05/04/opinion/04k...
Wages are falling all across America. Falling wages are a symptom of a sick economy. And they’re a symptom that can make the economy even sicker. We’re suffering from the paradox of thrift: saving is a virtue, but when everyone tries to sharply increase saving at the same time, the effect is a depressed economy.
And [maybe] soon the paradox of wages: workers at any one company can help save their jobs by accepting lower wages. But when employers across the economy cut wages at the same time, the result is higher unemployment. All signs point to a [cycle of] continuing wage cuts, keep[ing] the economy weak.
To break that vicious circle, we basically need more: more stimulus, more decisive action on the banks, more job creation. President Obama and his economic advisers seem to have steered the economy away from the abyss. But the risk that America will face years of deflation and stagnation seems to be rising.
The con-servative war on the middle class continues....

As far as the Afghan war goes, I agree with you completely. The Russians couldn't win and Afghanistan is on their damned border! As far as rich getting richer under Obama, lets wait until we have a Dem majority (60 in senate) in the Senate and House, then let's see what he does.

st paul thier will be no such thing as a 60 seat dem majority , as to many dems vote along with the repigs, in any event im not going to hold my breath waiting for the politicians to do anything other then what the corporations tell them to do, iraqs going to blow up again soon and afganistans going to be a blood bath, stay loose the future looks very bleak ,

"Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke said today the U.S. economy is stabilizing and will begin to rebound later this year....... But he expects the economy will continue to shed jobs......"

The economy will 'rebound' but people will continue to lose their jobs? Realy? So housing prices will start to rise? Auto sales will start to take off? The stores and Malls will start to see more people shopping? As the layoffs continue? Bernanke is a fucking moron.....

You do realize that the millions of undereducated morons in the US who think Al Gore claimed to invent the internet are now going to seriously believe swine flu is manmade, don't you? It isn't. It doesn't have anything to do with a laboratory. It had everything to do with poor sanitation near pig farms and corporations that don't give a (pig)shit about the health of people forced to live nearby/downstream.

All flus come from pigs and birds. It's no biggie, we've known it for years.
