he didn't see the collapse coming, and he should be fired, or he was in on it, and should be in jail.

when they came in with a 3 page request for 700 billion dollars?

Did

you do it?

bartfarb's picture

"My cousin asked me to play with my poop once", this happened to me, and yes I played with my poop. and he ran down stairs and told every one, we were about 9. fun times.

ron's picture

was because my aunt who is about 10 years older than me, when we were visiting N Dakota back when I was 5 years old got me and my brother to step into cow poop and feel how warm it was.

When will government of the people, by the politicians, for the corporations perish from this Earth?

Not soon enough!

where Franken objected to LIEberman's request to continue his scintillating remarks, but hadn't seen the McCain part.

That was quite amusing - I was hoping Johnny would lose his cool, get a little more red in the face, start pounding his little fist on the lectern, and and really blow up.

Alas, we must have comity in the Senate.....or comedy, which it mostly seems like these days.

Al may sense that he can cause that to happen the next time he has the chair. I do enjoy it when McGoo loses his temper.

Who

Gives a shit what Lieberman has to say, or McCain for that matter. Kudos to Franken for cutting short the Republican grandstanding..........

By the way, since when has there been a friendly, social atmosphere in the Senate? Certainly not during the Bush years when Repubs shit on Dems every chance they got?

Please, if there is a god, let that be caught on video.

What lieberman was saying was a lie he should have not been allowed to go on for 10 minutes with the lying bullshit to start with.
I object to lieberman being in the senate!

You are very talented, bluegal!

Though, I do like the nice color of green (the color of Money?) used in the selected option.

This particular program at this time in our lives might be the LAST of many wake-up calls that we have been ignoring at our peril.
Moyers is retiring soon and Howard Zinn is up there in years, but their message rang loud and clear to me.
We have to do more than make snarky comments on our favorite blogs. We need to take our grievances, and concerns for our nations future to the next level. Watch the Video.....

FOR SURE!!!

MoveOn's $1,000,000 to beat Lieberman is a good start. They understand that. That's people power.

The goal was set, initially, for $400,000. By 1:22 p.m. on Thursday they were past the $1 million mark and climbing. The money will go to an ad campaign against Lieberman and into a fund to oppose his re-election in 2012.

Pitchforks protests also get their attention. No one likes an angry mob.

I know that there are a few C&L participants around the St Louis area and I would like to propose a meet-up near the intersection of Int 270 and Int 44.
I propose an active working meeting where participants come w/ideas and attitudes, we cannot rely on elected officials to do our work.....We have to do it ourselves!
Howard Zinn was absolutely right, we must not rely on any political animal to do what needs to be done....we have to do it ourselves.
What I propose is that all of us C&Lers in large metropolitan areas set up a meetup in the month of January with the purpose of networking ideas for real changes that we would like to see.
Who knows, with the blessing of John Amato we could potentially organize a convention before the 2012 election?
For me I would like to meetup Sunday, Jan.9th at 9a.m. at Panera Bread on Lindburgh Blvd, just south of Watson Rd and about 1/2 mile east of the intersection of Hwys 270 & 44.
Are there any C&Lers that think they can make it let me know.
I will post this notice again if it meets the approval of Site Monitors.

We need to meet up, put our heads together and figuar out how to make the lives of these people so miserable that they cannot continue to be in government!
I don't live near St Louis but we have a Panera Bread at the Huntington Mall and I would be willing to meet.
We really need to combat all the big money.

Radically Moderate ad infinitum's picture

Pick a date in January and see who shows up.
This is very important for us.
Anyone out there want to meetup?

You know, I just don't follow any of that crap. Only the headlines I read at HuffPO as I scroll past.

I see snippets of American magazines shows on Korean TV and roll my eyes as I remote past them. EGO-galore. What a bunch of skanks (men and women).

See, I can get the whole story in 50 headlines. No need for the extra punishment of the "actual nitty-gritty news".

(Note: I did watch the Taiwanese animation on YouTube just for the heck of it.)

PS I figued by the time hooker #8 was talking about his dong size on TV, it was curtains for him.

I don't watch the shows, but we get a fair number of them over here. You can't not see them if you turn on a TV. Sure, I'll watch 5 minutes, just to see, but...

Yesterday I kept flipping until I found a really cool documentary about space, life and the solar system-- more to my liking. (I don't have a big selection, in English.)

i'm not sure the fed can produce jobs but i hope they listen to the "market". i've always considered bernanke as part of the financial crisis problem while working under greenspan. currently i hope "helicopter ben" avoids inflation with this "cheap" money to banks i have some concern.

or more when you consider loss of asset values in the equation. Rents, gas, utilities, food, just the basics are putting the squeeze on people.

Just breaking even is a bitch, and impossible for lot's of people.

House Of Roberts's picture

How can there be inflation when all the money the Fed prints, stays up on Wall St. with the banksters?
The Right can screech all they want about the Stimulus didn't hold unemployment to 8%, it was the bailed-out banks failing to loan to businesses that killed the jobs.

they don't give a damn. they're getting money at 0%. then they turn around and buy treasuries, commodities and invest in CHiNA. to me they have no faith/no loyalty in our economy. of course, i do understand there's more to (damage) come with mortgage resets and a wave of credit card default/debt. there's nothing in it for them to loan. although there has been less bad news when looking at leading indicators i don't have much confidence in the economy.

Dec. 17 (Bloomberg) -- World leaders flying into Copenhagen today to discuss a solution to global warming will first face freezing weather as a blizzard dumped 10 centimeters (4 inches) of snow on the Danish capital overnight.

That does not necessarily indicate that there won't hell to pay for climate change in the future. But it is kind interesting.

DEC 17, 2009 10:05 EST
AFGHANISTAN | BARACK OBAMA | BURN RATE | HILLARY CLINTON | IRAQ | PAKISTAN
— Bernd Debusmann is a Reuters columnist. The opinions expressed are his own. —

The Pentagon has an evocative term for the level of spending on a war: burn rate. In Afghanistan, it has been running at around $5 million every hour for much of the year. The burn rate will begin going up next week when the first of an additional 30,000 U.S. troops arrive.

Once they are all in place, the burn rate is estimated to exceed $10 million an hour, or more than $8 billion a month. Much of that is literally burned — in the engines of American jeeps, trucks, tanks, aircraft and power generators. On average, each of the 183,000 soldiers currently deployed in Afghanistan and Iraq requires 22 gallons of fuel a day, according to a study by the international accounting firm Deloitte.

Because of a difficult and dangerous supply line that runs more than 1,200 miles through Pakistan, fuel for the troops in Afghanistan is considerably more expensive than for those in Iraq: an average of $48 per gallon counting the cost of transport and protection. Flown by helicopter to positions on remote Afghan front lines, the cost can reach $400 per gallon.

Which helps explain why Afghanistan “is one of the most expensive, perhaps the most expensive, war in U.S. history on a per troop basis,” says Todd Harrison of the Center for Strategic and Budgetary Assessments, a Washington think tank. His estimate of the cost per year of a soldier deployed in Afghanistan this year matches the number used by the White House – around $1 million. (The Pentagon says is it is less.)

In comparison, a soldier in Iraq costs less than half. Again in comparison, an Afghan soldier costs $12,500 a year, a recent congressional hearing was told.

The staggering cost of the war highlights an aspect of asymmetric warfare which is worth noting: the insurgent has a huge advantage on the financial front. While a Marine Corps combat brigade, for example, burns up around 500,000 gallons of fuel a day (or $24 million, at an average of $48 per gallon), the marines’ insurgent enemies use a tiny fraction of that. They ride around in pickup trucks, or walk. They do not move in Humvees that average four miles per gallon.

The cost-benefit advantage the insurgents enjoy in combat occasionally features on jihadist websites. One video clip makes the point that an improvised explosives device that costs $30 to make can knock out a $3.2 million Bradley Armored Fighting Vehicle.

Both the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have so far been financed with borrowed money that makes up part of the country’s deficit. The 2009 budget year, which ended in September, set an all-time high with $1.42 trillion. In 2010, it is expected to reach close to $1.5 trillion.

Waddya know? Another black man falsely imprisoned, only to be exonerated with DNA evidence. This brother did 35 years, too. Not that that's actually a bad thing in our state, but the suckonomy has created negative population growth in Cali. In spite of recalls and warnings, 11 babies died from defective cribs. The LAUSD only decides to boot the shit teachers after it gets called out on its (non-)evaluation process by the 'Times. A judge is less afraid of terrorists being detained in the U.S. than he is of gang-members. Cali's children get the their health care cuts delayed for two years. Democracy Now from Copenhagen

with Bolivian President Evo Morales on the need to end capitalism here

AMY GOODMAN: You spoke yesterday here at the Bella Center and said we cannot end global warming without ending capitalism. What did you mean?
PRESIDENT EVO MORALES: [translated] Capitalism is the worst enemy of humanity. Capitalism—and I’m speaking about irrational development—policies of unlimited industrialization are what destroys the environment. And that irrational industrialization is capitalism. So as long as we don’t review or revise those policies, it’s impossible to attend to humanity and life.
AMY GOODMAN: How would you do that? How would you end capitalism?
PRESIDENT EVO MORALES: [translated] It’s changing economic policies, ending luxury, consumerism. It’s ending the struggle to—or this searching for living better. Living better is to exploit human beings. It’s plundering natural resources. It’s egoism and individualism. Therefore, in those promises of capitalism, there is no solidarity or complementarity. There’s no reciprocity. So that’s why we’re trying to think about other ways of living lives and living well, not living better. Not living better. Living better is always at someone else’s expense. Living better is at the expense of destroying the environment.
