Whose Marriage Is It? by Mark Fiore. Correction to this cartoon, the Alabama state constitution was changed by the voters to allow interracial marriage in 2000, not 1967.

Foist.

I don't expect much enlightened thought from a state that thinks (inanimate) dildos are evil.

"Erin Brockovich".

Lawyers from the power company show up to make a lousy "offer" of compensation still insisting the community's ground water is safe. Lawyer reaches for water flask on conference table and Brockovich tells her (falsely) of the water's origins. Lawyer declines to drink. (Tee-hee.)

We're not going to get very far if you keep injecting logic into the conversation!

... and you throw it in with the Supremes and the GMC and it's a fun puzzle. Well worth the effort.

The BBC did a good show on East Jerusalem the other night. Very maddening (to me). You rarely, or never, see this kind of programme on US news. The article link is here.

Erroll Southers on withdrawing from TSA consideration

Jan. 21: The Interview: Erroll Southers, former Obama nominee for TSA head, grants his first television interview exclusively to Rachel Maddow to talk about why he withdrew his name from consideration and what approach he'd take to defending the United States against terrorism.

Isn't that what the neutron bomb does? Kills the people but leaves the buildings sparkling clean! (not sure what happens to the plants and animals)

There seems to be a very sad poetry to the neutron bomb.

It kills the source of destruction. If it were real (it wasn't), when combined with the reality of mutually assured destruction, it offers the perfect solution to the problem.

... or maybe it's just the *train wreck* or possibly the *stinky pinky*...

I take the train wreck. If your pinky stinks, you probably shouldn't stick it in there anymore.

China's pissed about us having the moral ground, for once. Russia's a bit confused about our missiles near Poland's border. Yeah, I really want everyone to have a gun so my(hypothetical) kids could be used for target-practice during a sleep-over, too...Looks like Bernanke is no longer the man of the year with our senators. It says it all about the reps of our politicians when, given the chance, heads of certain corporations don't want anything to do with 'em. In fact, they've actually signed a petition for public financing. Petraeus waited a while to call out those fundy gun manufacturers. Barry's spin on the whole thing. Hawaii approved civil unions. Cali Dems try to bring back single-payer. Dodd continues to give shitty advice.

...over the last 300 years or so, I'd say that the Russian Foreign Minister is playing stupid.

NOBODY 2012

I believe 1967 is when most states officially gave up enforcing the laws, but they were not removed. By Wikipedia, "and other US states banned Asians from marrying whites until 1967." I haven't finished my coffee yet, so I can't remember, but I believe there was a famous mixed-race couple in the 60's Civil Rights movement that was threatened with arrest and forced dissolution of marriage.

The laws were not officially removed, though, to "make a moral point" and "think of the children" and such. I remember that day, though. The vote was about 54-46 to remove the law, which is a close vote. I was shocked. My supervisor was from Tennessee, and didn't understand why I was shocked.

Loving v. Virginia, and the couple in the cartoon looks a lot like Mildred and Richard loving.

I didn't catch a reference to Alabama, so I'm not sure what needed correcting.

In Canada (Ontario anyway), the law is "care and control of a vehicle". If you have the keys and you're near it... (vehicle includes bicycles too). I once got a warning for drunken bike riding, a charge goes on your driving record. They told me to get off and walk it home, so they were being nice.
