"There are a number of factors behind America's growing embrace of torture, but among them, largely overlooked, is a brilliant campaign of cross-promotion between right-wing ideologues and right-wing entertainment. – Barry Eisler

"... you can change hearts and minds with fiction ... The right has been very effective at promoting its own ideology through fiction and drama, the left not so much ... the left has a better product to sell, and is not as good at selling it..." – Barry Eisler, author of Inside Out, on Grit TV

Calling it an organized marketing effort on the part of the right wing helps clarify their actions. In reality it is propaganda. But when the word propaganda is applied people "glaze over" and the message is lost.
It is a beautifully organized coordinated promotional marketing campaign. The right uses entertainment and coordinated messaging to bait the customers into buying their product.

that think the TV programming of shows like Law & Order, 4 nights of CSI and a couple nights of NCIS is all good TV. these are guys in their 60s and 70s. No wonder the world is so fucked up.
What in the world do y'all actually talk about?

about how fucked up the right wingers are, so they aren't all bad.
"Law and Order CI" (not so much "SVU" though). The writing is pretty formulaic by now, but still, they're pretty watchable. The first couple of seasons of "L and O" are commonly on very early Sun mornings and are a helluva lot more entertaining than Gregory and his ilk later in the AM.
Never could stomach any of the "CSI" or "NCIS" shows.

I especially like SVU. How is the show screwing up the world? I mean, come on! It's a television show for crying out loud!
and it's snowing here tonight. How depressing.
This, however, gave me a laugh today. Here's a video of Albertan Jim Sautner, his pet bison Bailey D Buffalo Jr, and family dog Charlie Brown:

...for your snow. We've had a lot of gray rain of late. Oh to see the sun.
The forecast here is cold, wet and dreary for the next few days.
Bah!
not so cold here, but definitely wet and dreary. Bah is right!
Our last cool days before summer heat hits.
I consider June, July and August our worst months here in Las Vegas. I love the rest of the year with mild temps in the spring and fall and cool temps in the winter. We had the heat on for only 3 weeks last winter.

They had loaded for me. He still looks so young in his face (the bison).
Oddly the video player runs the ads part fine. =P
So I watched the Buffalo vid (too cool!) and then clicked on the home page, and found this article. I had no idea Canada was also facing immigration issues with Mexico.

Last page goes into the massive distribution costs though.
Here, we just don't spend on that. Been trying to find a link that explains what someone in that field explained to me a while back. This seems the best:
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/08/27/business/27...
Wind advocates say that just two of the windiest states, North Dakota and South Dakota, could in principle generate half the nation’s electricity from turbines. But the way the national grid is configured, half the country would have to move to the Dakotas in order to use the power.
See that's a problem.
Western states have better grids than eastern it seems. But the grid is not only too small but also too stupid. Especially wind generation needs grids that are prepared for it in load management.
http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSTRE64J6W32...
Some money for smart grid upgrades was in the stimulus at least.
Most of the money was to train engineers on smart grids. Good, we lack engineers in numbers for big projects.
http://www.eetimes.com/news/latest/showArticl...
But the quote from GE, who won one of the engineer training grants from the DoE made me wonder who we are stimulating:
"We know the smart grid has taken off, and it's not just a U.S. phenomenon," said Luke Clemente, general manager for smart grid at GE who said he sees significant business coming in China, Europe, India and elsewhere.
Really, it's great we train GE to make smart grid engineers for China or Europe's existing grid. Meanwhile, we have this leak thing ...
and i know a lot of you do too, so here is this.

about almost the same plots with a different twist. Almost like what they call news now.
But that's just bad formulaic television. You still haven't explained how these shows are screwing up the world. Or how it's linked to right wingers.
the wrong words. I should have said screwing up the minds of the citizens. It's like we're supposed to be afraid everyday of our lives. Another show I won't watc is 24.
what you're saying, but be careful not to read some evil conspiracy in these shows. The only people that could possibly be brainwashed into having thier thinking swayed by watching shows like this are the weak minded. Pure and simple. And I'm not going to stick up for someone that stupid. I'll just pray that they don't breed.
I think this stuff works on everyone, even the strong minded. The things we see on TV become commonplace "events" and we get numbed to things we would normally never approve, or would be outraged over if we saw it ourselves: like guns, and the idea of everyday taser use, and even torture. Look how many people approve of tasering people that misbehave in public, like that guy at the baseball game recently. Yet if they saw their kid get tasered, live, they'd be outraged.

Our whole school church and media system brainwashes people to not think or to be 24/7 scared about upsetting various daddy figures.
So you get the 'respect my authority' 'dont resist or you will get hurt'
Slaves not citizens.
You see this strange thing when you first visit the US, customs and immigration people are quasi mil uniformed and armed with a gun.
In what sane reality does a passport examiner and rubber stamp official need a damn gun strapped to their belt, in a modern countries airport system.
This is a bill to prohibit the EPA from regulating greenhouse gases.
http://www.nmpf.org/Murkowski-resolution-of-d...
I already emailed my Senator, McCaskel.
"S.J.Res. 26
It is my hope that you vote against efforts to undermine the EPA's jurisdiction to regulate green house gases. The environmental aspects aside, the military has factored global warming into national security planning. If the U.S. continues to be the world's largest producer of greenhouse gasses, and a laggard, rather than a leader, then this position is ultimately destined to foster animosity towards the U.S. from other nations. So, I think there is a national security price to pay if we don't start being a leader in addressing global warming.
There are those who want to take the country back, which really means "take the country backwards". But I think we need to take the country forward. So, I hope you vote against any attempt to take the country backwards, as this S.J. Res. 26 proposed by Sen. Murkowski would do."
Let's mobilize to take the country -> forward. "
Come up with other, independent arguments. But, I would request that people email their Senator with their position on the issue.
http://senate.gov/general/contact_information...
I believe China actually produces a helluva lot more "greenhouse gases" than we do.
last year, I believe...
Via Ebert's tweet, priest mistresses ask the Pope to end the celibacy requirement. The FBI was in Helms' back-pocket. I guess the Exxon people can breathe easier, now... Meanwhile in Alaska...Britain acknowledges that spying on its citizens doesn't help it against terrorism. Woman finds herself alone on plane. Barry's damage control. Kimmy really loves his war games. House Dems balk at saving teachers' jobs. Meet the new Cali Repug gubernatorial candidates. Same as the old candidate. Speaking of Ahnie, he seems to want to take credit for jobs which had nothing to do with him. U.S. to in remain in Okinawa. McCain gets what he wants on border troops. Bush just loves a good head-slapper.
Now is the Time for President Obama to push Solar, Wind, and thermal energy. He needs to push the decentralized methods. (Solar panels and batteries on and in every building for an example).
..all the money lent to the "banks too big to fail" should've gone to homeowner's in the form of low, low, really low interest loans to get solar panels and wind turbines installed on homes and businesses. It should also be mandated that meters run backward or however they classify it. Some areas do that so you get credit for power produced vs. power consumed; some areas do not. Think of the spurt of jobs created by this. Proposing an idea like this is something called "leadership" and to me seems pretty progressive.

The telling number that comes up is the 300,000 or whatever at the factory(s), that is a big hint that the place is a prison manufacturing complex. Nowhere outside something like the Manhattan Project during wartime could a private industry get that big/complex so fast.
And the figure of nine is odd too, statistically that would be a drop in the ocean of normal day-to-day male suicides (0.001 etc), the telling thing is its being reported (for some reason) as something out of the ordinary, like maybe troublesome 'union' people being thrown from the roof...
but if you read the article and the links in the comments section, that plant actually has a lower suicide rate than the Chinese national average.

Diabolus est Deus Inversus
..so I've been against the "papers please" law like a lot of folks here. Then, some pictures show up of the environmental disaster in the desert south of Tucson created by the flood of people over the border. Backpacks, water bottles, diapers, feces, cast off during the exodus from Mexico turning the desert into a dump. It rains, it washes away into the rivers, municipal water supplies, the oceans. Then there's the report about Phoenix being the second largest kidnapping locale second only to Mexico City. Largely blamed on the drug gangs and committed against illegals but kidnappings nonetheless resulting in torture, mutilations, death and worse (?). Then there's the lifting of the Assault Weapon ban making America the One-Stop-Gun-Store for the drug gangs. Why that can't reinstated is beyond m..oh yeah, patriot groups like the NRA. And then there's Congress, willing to put off debate until after the election. After all, we have two wars to..what's the word..get the F out of since neither is achieving the stated goals and the economy is in the toilet not because of illegal immigrants on the Main Streets of America but because of the greed that exists on the Wall Streets of America. We've borrowed our way into so much debt thanks to "fiscal conservatives" who rely on immigrants to raise their kids and tend their lawns. And all the illegal immigrants want to do is work and provide for their families which they can't do at home. We abandoned NAFTA for China. Its certainly not all of our problem; we have enough of our own problems like people who consume the illegal drugs but don't think they contribute to the problem created by the drug gangs in Mexico who operate in the States.
Yeah, I can believe that maybe Arizona might have approached this differently than passing a "papers please" law but they sure have thrust some major problems into the spotlight. And, I have nothing but sympathy for that illegal immigrant just trying to make a better life for themselve and their family.
