Has anyone ever heard of English being the “liar's language”? I was an English major in school and nobody had ever mentioned this.

English lacks specificity and is generally vague. In many foreign languages specifics are often conjugated into the word itself, instead of using a detachable, optional modifier. Because the specifics are part of the word they cannot be separated and it is difficult to be vague or to suggest multiple meanings.

For example, in English you say “I have a friend in the house.”
In Spanish you say “Yo Tengo un amiga in la casa.”

Immediately with the Spanish version the gender of the friend is identified, offering more details than in English.

This also applies to tenses. In English you can say “I used to be a carpenter.” But if you were to say the same phrase in Italian, for instance, you would specify how long ago you were a carpenter, if you were still a carpenter, etc. I heard they have 14 tenses, English has three.

There are so many of these examples I could go on but sometimes I think many of our problems are rooted in our language. Our over use of euphemisms, dodgy vocabulary and excuse making really seem to be rooted in our language.

exactly!language is a pulpritude of mishmash!

Yes if you really break it down, sometimes I feel language is just a big mistake we all made a long time ago.

We used to communicate through gestures, eye contact, body language, perhaps even telepathy was more developed before the rise of language.

Then some idiot began to attach meaning to words and before you know it our wives are hitting us over the head with the frying pan and someone at work is trying to sue us for words we "said".

Big mistake.

what about the Inter-tubes?? How would we communicate without written words? I'm lookin' real hard right now and I can't see your eyes...

try my blog with no words.

http://woodsnbeaches.blogspot.com/

well, almost no words.

: )

Thanks Amitola. I live in a pretty cool place.

live in Pennsylvania - but there are a few "pretty cool places here, too. If I had my druthers and could start my working life all over again, I think I'd like to be a scenic photographer. Then I'd publish books of my beautiful photos and poems/haiku.
If I can't get employed soon ,I may just give that a try.

Beautiful pictures need no words. You are lucky to live in such a wonderful place.

I work with children who have different degrees of autism.....we spend 40 hours a week together with very few words being spoken! Actually, the workers are about the only ones who use the spoken word........kids use all kinds of sign language..........if anyone came in to observe us, they would think we have gone mad........but the interactions are remarkable indeed........and inspiring to say the least.

Good example of alternative communication. reminds me of a seen in the movie "Bad Boy Bubby". The main character has some mental limitations but he is able to communicate with a group of people who are severely disabled and cannot come close to making speech. But somehow he can understand them and is able to "translate" what they are trying to say to people who have been working with them. Amazing movie from Australia.

Better you're able to communicate the better you can warn your hunting partner that the 'tree stump' he's sitting on is in actuality a bear.

Wish I knew more. I've often thought about that concept. How does language effect your thought. And you wouldn't even really be aware of it, since it's all you know oftentimes. Only way you know of expressing yourself. The limitations. That's why I've always felt music is the only true form of expression or language. Thanks to C&L for having a LNMC ~ Late Night Music Club in that regard.

o~

Yes I agree! I'm a musician and I've been fascinated by people who can become possessed by music and do not even play an instrument. we've all seen or known at least one before, at a concert or just at a party or in private. they are completely consumed, sometimes gyrating to the music. That is a form of communication in itself. its really trippy when they do it to something you wrote.

So somebody who is a natural latin language speaker is going to think about things from a different perspective than an english speaker.

Its prob subtle but there.

British english also is very cliche intense in everyday use.

As in people use cliche sayings in common situations.

Its quite noticeable in british comedy.

"So somebody who is a natural latin language speaker is going to think about things from a different perspective than an english speaker."

That is fascinating to me. It's just almost impossible to measure or study. It's like a dream. If you know of any good resources though or field of study or title that would be cool. I totally think there is something to that.

anthropological linguists do study this and indeed find correlation between language and perspective or world view.

also change the meaning of the sentence. Question: You are a progressive? Accusation or statement: You are a progressive.

I don't think bad english causes problems. I think intentions caused us to develop english to function exactly as we want it. In other words, despite the negative seeming effects, our language is functioning as we want to be communicating. For example, in any tense, I have been, am and will be, completely full of shit.

*

George Bush's English was definitely the "liar's english". The better your English the more liberal, and generally more honest, you probably are.

Dang, thats deep!!!

cool, thx for that.

Is there anything that would cause you to support a dissolution of the United States? Hypothetically of course.

Illegal wars?
Self Inflicted wounds?

Tens of Trillions in Debt?

Anything?

The Union must be preserved. In my opinion. Our Constitution is the most valuable thing we have. If you dissolve the United States, I'm afraid we'd lose the Bill of Rights and Constitutional protections etc. Although we're kind of letting that happen anyway, so. We have a lot of work to do.

So there is nothing that the US government would do that warrant its dissolution? be faithful to the question.

...short of a nuclear first strike.

btw, the Constitution is subservient to the Declaration. The Constitution didn't free us from Britain, and the Constitution will not free us from our current oppressors.

I'd still say no. I'd say the government could be disolved in the worst case scenerio, if we couldn't correct it though elections and impeachments etc. But I'd always want to keep our mainland and our Constitution and Bill of Rights. What scenarios do you see that could play out if the country was dissolved.

Oh your fist question said The United States. The second you switched it to government. In my opinion those are different.

I guess I used them interchangeably. I wasn't trying to be tricky in the wording. Sorry if that's how it came across.

The scenarios of the after effects are quite varied. What would happen to the military? What would happen to the nuclear arsenal? How many sovereign States would it split into? What about migrational issues?

Its a lot of issues. Would it be peaceful? Would it be violent? Who knows.

But as you initially responded, what would be one of those worst case scenarios?

There isn't any crisis I can conceive of that would cause me to want the United States to be dissolved. That just seems negative to me in any situation.

okay, let me try some extremes then.

what if the US government established concentration camps?

what if the US government conducted false flag attacks that directly or secondarily led to the deaths of 1.5+ million people?

what if the US government led the nation (different terminology here) to financial ruin with no mathematical way to emerge from it?

would you still hold on that non-dissolution principle?

.

Why are you talking about hypotheticals. What if you wished in one hand and shit in the other, which one would fill up first?

Who says the examples I gave were hypotheticals?

is this an excuse not to exercise your brain and weigh your values?

what you are essentially arguing, by way of making light of the exercise, is that your government deserves to survive, right or wrong. but even if very wrong

seems that a couple of nations tried that in the 1930s-1940s.

You are talking hypotheticals and it is B.S.

Run all posts by Ron to make sure he approves of them, otherwise he may post telling you your posts aren't valid.

That is all.

is having a dialogue, you must spend a lot of time watching Faux and listening to Rush Blimpbaugh.

Rush doesn't deal in what ifs. In his world there are only facts, his facts. Any questioning of his facts would be called BS.

Open-minded, intellectually curious people engage in what ifs.

an example of the willfully ignorant, or the baahing sheep.

which would you rather have in your hand if Rush Limbaugh was coming at you?

which would you rather have in your hand if Rush Limbaugh was coming at you?

good shoes

That's why I fight as hard as I do to save this nation. I completely think all that has or is happening and possibly worse. And I still think our mainland and constitution and way of government should remain intact. I think political change occurs in increments and evolves in stages. For instance. We elect Barack, the opposite of Bush, the underdog in the race with Clinton. We fought for Howard Dean as the Democratic Chairmanship. We fight to return to the rule of law. I fight for incrementally more and more positive and progressive politicians like Paul Hackett, Al Franken, Kucinich, etc. These people aren't perfect, but they are a move in the right direction. I don't believe in this 'all or nothing', catastrophic change, or Shock Doctrine shit. I believe in education, organization, and evolutionary or incremental change. That's just what I think is the most effective and realistic process. I don't believe in chaos or the "everything sucks" idea. I think that is simplistic and the easy way out. You look at the situation you are in and make the incremental changes that are possible under the circumstances and move in the direction you wish to go. That's just me.

I'd like to hear the other argument for why a dissolution of our country would be beneficial.

But I think we're in the shit man. I think its danger time. And I think Media Reform is essential as well. That's why I have such high and passionate hopes for blogs like this.

and how many more millions are you willing to let die to keep this incremental pace that your talking about run its course?

That's what I'm talking about. What the fuck is the other choice. What is more effective???

Einstein said it - doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results is insanity.

I say stop doing the same things we as a nation/government have been doing.

Both the Democratic party and the Republicans are corrupted, both are infiltrated by traitors, and as both are in charge, there will never be a winnable 3rd party alternative.

Ok.

Stop doing the same things. I get it. But WHAT do we do. Not participate, vote for candidates like Ron Paul who don't even want to be President (he dropped out of the race), Leave the Country. What exactly are you saying we should do. We don't have the power to dissolve the country and that would be counter-productive in my view. We can boycott, strike, stop paying taxes, etc. But that is about it. I get your frustration. I'm with you on that. I have the same feelings. I just don't know what your course of action is. Mine is slow, but I think its getting enough results for now. The newspapers are going under, the blogs are gaining in popularity. More and more people are waking up to the truth and reality of the matter. The documentaries are being seen by millions. The damn is breaking. That is what I think will be the solution.

That the dissolution of the country would prevent millions from dying?

Well, David Ray Griffin figured that as a result of the US dominance of the world economy (disaster capitalism-plantation ecomomy) since 1945, and through its wars it has directly waged, or by proxy,

that over 1 billion have needlessly died.

There is no way you can say what the outcome of the dissolution of the U.S. would engender. And if you want to posit going back historically, I think it makes sense to assume some other global power would have stepped up.

Though I'll grant you the number without checking, the inclusion of the modifier 'needlessly' makes the statement meaningless.

check in David Ray Griffins book

David Ray Griffin, 2006, Christian Faith and the Truth Behind 9-11 p. 170-176

I said, I'll grant you the number. Make it 2 billion. My point is there is no way to know that without the U.S. around there wouldn't have been more or less deaths.

that is faulty logic. it doesn't predicate the absence of the US, it predicates the predatory nature of the US govt.

I thought you were saying that without the US those billion would be alive.

I'm totally with you about the predatory nature of our govt. (I support mandatory life sentence for anyone who runs for office) I just don't think its unique. Its just the best. And if we weren't here, some other govt would be on top, fucking everyone else over.

In other words, I support the dissolution of the U.S. I just don't think itd make much difference long term.

conversations like this that give Rush BillO and Hannity more fuel to condemn us. WTF, who's side are you on?

I usually do worry that what I say might give Rush BillO and Hannity reasons to condemn me and try to speak and think like a good little boy. I don't know what I was thinking! /snark

WTF is wrong with you?

for everybody in government. Sorry if that doesn't fit your criteria.

About what Rush BillO and Hannity think about what you say then you watch what you say because of that you are a sad sad person.

you haven't seen where they have taken a blooger's comment and claim the blog posted it. Your ignorance is no excuse for the B.S you're spewing. I don't care one bit about what they say except when it's not the truth and that is all of the time.

I don't care. I'm not a spineless worm that would curtail the freedom to exercise my mind for those jerks. I can't believe you'd seriously suggest I watch what I say because of those asshats. Fuck them. Fuck anyone who listens to them and fuck anyone who worries what they think.

This country is the best thing we've got going. This is one of the last things in the way of the people who want to rule the world. As is the independent nations of Iran, Venezuela, Russia, etc. Iraq used to be, but that got taken care of.

I'm with you Truth. I view the problems of this country very similarly to the you. We couldn't dissolve this place if we wanted, and that is what Bush and those guys are trying to do anyway. They are trying to topple us with the North American Union and dissolve our Constitution. The most effective thing we can do is fight that.

The Constitution is already toppled.

The Government is already taking right after right away like a Jenga puzzle.

And if it isn't that, then its also the pending financial implosion that will - WILL - destroy this nation/government.

"there are rules!"

describe the situation with great accuracy I believe.

What is your recommendation as for a course of action. What is your solution. I think we can get the Constitution back. I think our rights can be gotten back. And the last week has proven me correct. But regardless. What is your solution. What is your idea for action.

Don't give up on that shit. Our forefathers fought like hell when all looked lost. We can fight this shit. It ain't even close to being over.

well you know a coup d'etat has already happened...

by definition that makes the government unconsitutional - even if it follows the Constitutional procedures after-wards for decades.

the underlying crime renders it illegal, unjust, and it requires us to reverse it.

about 2000, unfortunately I think the ruling of the supreme court wipes away the illegality of it. Though in actuality it was stolen.

P.S. So this is what the other side of the comments page is like.

no, I'm talking before that. 1963.

come on don't make me drag it out of you.

okay...

Eisenhower gave us his warning on the Military Industrial Complex.

Kennedy comes along, doesn't play ball with the CIA and Allen Dulles.
Kennedy is supposedly shot by a FBI double agent working to expose the Cuban-American leftovers of the Bay of Pigs.

Nixon, Bush Sr, and other players all in Dallas, yet can't give convincing statements about it.

Military Industrial Complex gets their Vietnam War - based on a lie.

and the story continues....

Yeah, that was fucked up.

careful now, you're verging very close to tin foil hat land.

/snark off

Totally. I think a number of coup d' etats have occurred. It is heartbreaking. And I think my process as I've laid out, is how you get the country back. I don't know of any other course of action.

That from the getgo, finding all men are created equal AND having slavery, the basis for this country was on a rocky foundation.

I don't know of any other course of action more effective. I know some other ones, but I don't think those are the most effective. What are your ideas on how to act under these circumstances.

Personally I think we're all screwed and we're just playing out the string. But I keep my eyes and ears open just in case something hopeful happens.

All you can do, is do what you can. As Bob Dylan would say.

Is the only think I believe in.

So it its a collection of states, a United States.

50 of 1 etc.

I'd support it now. Our govt has proven itself so criminally negligent and corrupt, and that corruption is so welded to the process most things that would seem on the face of it, under any kind of objective analysis seem illegal are in fact normal operating procedure. I.E. It can't be fixed cause the problem is not just bad people or bad policy, the system itself is inherently flawed. You want proof, ok here you go: Current state of affairs in America. Proof.

Reagan was just a freaking actor. A moron who led us to the dead end we are at now.

.

If you're interested in what REALLY caused the financial meltdown THIS is an excellent article in the Village Voice that finally gave me what I needed to understand what happened. Also some inspiring suggestions for what should be done to the masters of the universe who put us here. Plus the added bonus it's not more yapyapyapFederalReserveryapyapyap, Paulista crap.

I'd read a similar one about a month ago. It would be lovely if someone would prosecute some of these disgusting pieces of crap who've wagered away the lives of millions and run-off with the ill-gotten proceeds. I think that E. Spitzer was probably destroyed because he was investigating some of these so-called "Instruments" - I actually think he was lucky to only lose his career.

I do think Ron Paul gets a little carried away sometimes with his diatribes, but the major central banking institutions of the globe
(including the Fed, IMF, World Bank, and BIS folks) are all involved in and profiting from the transference of these huge sums around the world. I do think we could find a better way to structure our monetary systems. Perhaps this collapse will provide something better on the other side. I just hope we all survive.

The education chief tells it like it is, as does Obama.
Will he hold banks accountable? Body armor is recalled again. Rich McFunnell finally realizes that the Repugs aren't connecting with the public. Blackwater heads for the hills. Guiness stands up for animal rights. The Army suicide rate hit a 30-year high. A judge enables Arnie to force state workers on an unpaid vacation. Meanwhile, Cali voters want to go back to the pre-Jarvis days of a budget passed by a 51%+ majority, so they don't have to wait for 2/3 of the legislature to make up its mind. A recent article about Jarvis' "legacy".A Michigan power company kills an old vet by shutting off his heating. An activist judge pulls a Douglas Macarthur on Obama.

Peanut butter is not strong enough for use as body armour.

I would rather dig up that idiot's corpse and use it as a pinata.

His former team is going to the Super Bowl this weekend.

I bet he wouldn't be proud of the obligatory state-worship ceremony of the Air Farce flyover.

He'd rather be alive.

I just hope his sacrifice to this country is remembered. Along with everyone else of course, but I think his case is unique. The sacrifice of a multi million dollar contract, the misinformation, the mysterious death, the possible change of heart or perspective over time.

I'm starting this. Anytime someone talks about bi-partisanship and letting repubs have input to the stimulus package, just point out its THEIR party's fault we're in this mess, and maybe we've had enough of their input for a while.

Wouldn't you love to hear a reporter respond to Boehner/Rush etc... bloviating about spewing about how the repubs aren't being allowed to participate in crafting the stimulus package with: "But isn't the current economic crisis a result of Republican/conservative values holding sway for 8 years?"

Their values created this mess! Why in the world would we want more of their ideas. Folly, I tell you, folly.

The way the Repubs have been whining about the stimulus package, my first instinct would be to say, "It's time for the kiddies to go sit in the corner while the adults mop the spilled milk off the floor and clean the crayon scrawlings off the wall." Because that's almost what it feels like!

Yep

I think the dems and their surrogates should run with this idea.

Definitely, and if I wanted to take my analogy further towards its conclusion, and keeping with what Allamr18 said, one could also say the Repubs should be sent to bed w/o their supper (bailout money). :)

This is such a big mess that we don't dare let the mess makers in on the fixing process...

This started with Reagan.
*

You couldn't make that argument to a repub, their brains couldn't process the idea, plus Bill in between it dilutes the impact. But with the last 8 years, you could still deny it was RNC's fault, but it'd sound weak and no one would believe you.

I say that all the repubs who voted no to the stimulus package refuse to accept any funds that they may receive. They should tell their districts that we could not on principle vote for the package so we cant in principle take any monies from it.

Ha

They'll be the first ones in line with their hands out!!!!!!!!!!

I think a majority of our tax dollars go to those reddest states anyway. It's such a crock of shit and they need to be called out on their hypocrisy and the failure of their ideas.

Amen. here in GA they were quick as hell to cut the education budget but they are still debating on wether or not to allow guns on college campuses. We get over 3 million dollars in abstinence only education funding but have one of the highest teen pregnancy rates in the nation. We cut education spending and have one of the highest drop out rates for blacks and hispanics in the nation.

i allways wanted to go to a country western concert performed by mimes, with an audience consisting of one armed men and women !

Anyone see that post on Huff? Obama is eyeing repub Sen from NH for commerce sec. and the gov of NH is a dem so he'd pick a dem replacement. If Al Franken wins, and this guy takes the job, that'd be 60 for the dems.

total speculation and too many ifs to count on it, but fun to think about.

Barack has continually surprised me with his abilities. And I had pretty high expectations. We all need to make sure 2010 goes as well as 2008 did election wise.

Its almost as good as my plan to have him name Lieberman to a cabinet post, have him resign his senate seat. Then fire him.

Republicans cry about Obama not "reaching across the aisle". Obama reaches across and gets his hand slapped. That's exactly what happened with the stimulus vote and how the country will see it.

It's a dance that must be danced and I think BO is great on his feet. Whether they realize it or not, the Republicans just went down a few more feet into that hole they're digging for themselves. Pity.

Woo, that is awesome! I caught a glance at the article, and didn't realize that the Senator being considered was from a state with a Democratic gov. That's positive news! :) Maybe then we can care a little less about what the obstructions to have say about anything.

Whoops, I mean obstructionists...the perils of trying to comment and knit at the same time!

http://www.abcnews.go.com/Blotter/story?id=67...

We as citizens should not stand by quietly as this shit occurs. Every respectable journalist should be shouting this shit from the rooftops or pages of their words. Damn it. How can so many people sit by and let this occur. It doesn't even require you to get up off your lazy physical ass. All it requires is a little mental fortitude and some speaking out. Doesn't happen though enough does it. Thanks for posting this information.

There are no respectable journalists of consequence. Former CIA director Colby said it:

The Central Intelligence Agency owns everyone of any significance in the major media."
--William Colby, former CIA Director, quoted by Dave Mcgowan in "Derailing Democracy"

"You could get a journalist cheaper than a good call girl, for a couple hundred dollars a month."
--CIA operative, discussing the availability and prices of journalists willing to peddle CIA propaganda and cover stories. From "Katherine the Great," by Deborah Davis.

I'm hoping the blogs can continue to grow in influence. Which they have and are. And I hope that most journalists lose their jobs and credibility, which is also occurring. Citizen Journalists will fill the void. Which is occurring as we speak. Do you see any reason for hope? You see a lot of negativity. Have they defeated you? You are too smart to give up.

In the perspective of the British King George, the Colonials were filled with Negativity too. If you noticed, the Declaration of Independence is loaded with negativity.

In order to defeat the problem, you have to recognize the problem correctly, and there really isn't a way to sugar coat the dire circumstances we are all in.

I respect it. You see the picture really clearly. I just know that there has to be another side to it as well. The side that spurs on the fight. The side that lays out action. The side that inspires others to join your cause.

But you are doing it and enough and more than most people. Just talking this shit out is healthy and a form of resistance. Speaking about the circumstances. Speaking about all this. It's awesome. I really appreciate it. I feel better already. This is a mentally draining and taxing situation we are in. It's awful. It's lovely to have allies and support.

Thank you. I have noticed from your posts over the months were you are coming from too. I agree with all that you wrote above. Sometimes its just cathartic to get it out.

I got to get some rest now, I'm on the East coast and its nearly 2am. Until 2morrow.

Thanks.

a result of his plea deal.

“Yes, at the overly-ripe old age of 93, Ronald Reagan lived longer than any other President in our nation's history, despite my family's mutually supportive friendship with the Hinckleys. Often credited as being the father of the modern conservative movement, "Dutch" casts a long and impossible-to-escape shadow over every right-wing borrow-and-spend trickle-downer like me who has come in his wake. With the passage of time, he has become an icon. And even though people in the know can tell you Reagan was really just an affably senile zombie propped up by a Nixon-groomed cabal of brilliantly nefarious underlings, today I will do nothing but sing his praises. Because what's that old expression? Something about "people who live in grass houses shouldn't get stoned," right?...”

Some people say imperialism began with the Spanish American war. I say it began with the Louisiana Purchase, getting that huge chunk of land for peanuts started the whole craze for more land until it reached the current foreign policy. The long greed streak has finally reached it's limits with the death of laissez faire capitalism.

I see many changes ahead with Obama and Democrats in power in both houses, as well as worldwide with economic reform becoming a necessity. The other big priority for progressives is ending the MIC before more lives are destroyed around the world for greed and hate.

That MIC definitely needs to be confronted. And spoken about on a regular basis. Their influence stretches into almost everything. Media, Money, Health, Wealth, Poverty. Our only defense is a well educated society of active participating adults. And they are trying to prevent that as well. We have a window though.

We truly need to end the madness of the military machine which has ruthlessly destroyed millions and kills the soul of this nation.

Goodnight.

and the fact that the government of Israel has just about every US congressman by the balls (And the president, too, apparently). There was a link (maybe you posted it, orang) with an Israeli journalist explaining all the blackmailing going on. Does anyone remember this interview?

Another question is: where does all that US foreign aid to Israel go to exactly? Recycled back to America to buy weapons? The Mossad budget?

this is exactly right ! america pays for israels butchering men women and children in lebanon and palistine! we give them billions and billions every year, israel turns around and spends thoes tax dollars on f16s m1 abram tanks white phosperous and cluster bombs , they practicaly own americas politicians, many hold dual citizenship with israel as thier main loyalty we are second to them , obama is in israels pocket , he says the same things kida sleezy rice spewed , one being that iran is the enemy and if they dont do as we tell them we can punish them by either cutting off thier trade with other countrys , or possibly nuke them if they dont kiss americas ass! its the same old argument that the bush and cheny thugs used , and the fact that obamas going to widen the war in afganistans just more of the same bush cheny policys , this government thinks just because they think they won in iraq they can finnish the job dick cheny and the war corporations started by completeing the conquest in afganistan for the control of the oil and gas pipelines , this collapse of the job market and the loss of jobs by outsourceing or manufacturing base is just a way to keep our minds off the agression that we keep ingageing in , thiers no need for a draft because we can keep feeding the military with kids who are forced to join up for a job! dureing the primarys the news whores took over the debates on tv and they run the other participents off by only giveing us clinton and obama to choose from , in effect the corporations and the repigs gave us the new repig lites to carry out the corporations goals! the american people were had and you ate it up,!

The Senate backs the SCHIP upgrade bill. The economy's the worst since Reagan's first term.

Yay! It's damned time. I remember sending angry emails to the Republicans that opposed this, esp. Rich McFunnell.

I hope Graeme Frost and his family, and the other families who told their SCHIP stories to the public and were vilified by the wingnuts for it are celebrating right now.

Want to save $12 trillion? Do get off the oil economy. That was the blunt message from a recent report showing that the worst of climate change could be contained be investing 1% of global GDP into energy efficiency, green power and preventing deforestation by 2030.
The do-nothing alternative is somewhat less of a wise investment. Nicolas Stern, the former Chief Economist for the World Bank found that ignoring climate change would cost the world economy up to 20% of global GDP due to lost productivity, extreme weather and water shortages.

"You cannot trust the banks in taking risks," Taleb said in an interview with Bloomberg Television in Davos. "We have a very strange situation in which it's the worst of capitalism and socialism, a situation in which profits were privatized and losses were socialized. We taxpayers have the worst."

"The votes against Obama’s stimulus package came from a southern confederacy of Republicans and conservative Democrats. Their message to America? Drop dead." - http://www.thedailybeast.com/blogs-and-storie...
By the Confederates I mean the Republican Party and their allies among Southern conservative Democrats. The battle in Washington is not between liberals and conservatives; it is between the Union and the South. These morons are re-fighting the civil war....that's why I can't wait to get out of here!
So let’s be clear. The battle over the stimulus is not a gentle debate among thoughtful libertarians and well-intentioned progressives, with reasonable points made on both sides. It is nullification. It is sabotage. It is the latest episode in the Southern conservative strategy of massive resistance to necessary government and national progress. It will not be the last.
Let these dumb MFers secede....watch this part of the country burn for it... The 'new south'where stupidity is a birthright...

Huge crowds join French strikes - http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/7857435.stm
Huge crowds have taken to the streets in France to protest over the handling of the economic crisis, causing disruption to rail and air services. Unions said 2.5m workers had rallied to demand action to protect wages and jobs. Police put the total at 1m. President Nicolas Sarkozy said concerns over the crisis were legitimate and the government had to listen and act.

Economy Without Escape Routes: GOP Conspiracies on Who Crashed America: By Alan Farago - http://www.counterpunch.org/farago01292009.html
My Republican friends are all trending toward Conspiracy Theories to explain what happened and what is happening to the US economy. The party of wealth creation and free markets presided over the greatest wealth destruction in a century, and there must be some explanation. It couldn't happen without some invisible hand. Whose could it be? The military industrial complex? Mostly Republican. The bankers. Republican. Insurers and financial engineers. Republican. Detroit auto executives?
The brainiacs who wanted to hobble government by throttling regulatory capacity. Republican. It is a bad time to be a Republican. Now don't get me wrong. I'm not giving the Democrats a free pass. Far from it. But to watch the Republican leaders in Congress walk en masse to the evening news microphones and solemnly say what America needs is tax cuts, and to hear their talk show bloviators hope that President Obama fails-- all this, in his first week-- well, it is a performance in spitting sand.

Europe's Winter Of Discontent - http://www.telegraph.co.uk/comment/personal-v...
The French are in revolt. On Thursday, teachers, television employees, postal workers, students and masses of other public-sector workers will be united in a hugely-popular strike with car workers, supermarket staff, journalists and thousands of others in the private sector. One poll said that 75 per cent of the public supported the action, which has the backing of the large union groups and opposition socialists.
It will be a big test for President Nicolas Sarkozy but, more importantly, the strike will mark the biggest protest so far in one of the world's largest economies against the grief and distress being caused by the catastrophic global downturn. A depression triggered in America is being played out in Europe with increasing violence, and other forms of social unrest are spreading.
And its all due to the greed of corporatists, free marketeers, and con-servative 'economic' policies...

Is It Time to Bail Out of America? Astonishing Incongruities: By Paul Craig Roberts - http://www.counterpunch.org/roberts01292009.html
The printing press would turn a deflationary depression into an inflationary depression. Unemployment combined with rising prices would be a killer. -- How can President Obama even think about fighting wars half way around the world while California cannot pay its bills, while Americans are being turned out of their homes, while, as Business Week reports, retirees will work throughout their retirement (which assumes that there will be jobs), while careers are being destroyed and stores and factories shuttered.
Americans are facing tremendous unemployment and hardship. Obama doesn’t have another dollar to spend on Bush’s wars. Taxpayers are busted. They cannot stand another day of being milked by the military-security complex.
The US government is paying private mercenaries more by the day than the monthly checks it is providing to Social Security retirees. This is insanity. The banksters robbed us twice. First it was our home and stock values. Then the government rewarded the banksters for their misdeeds by bailing out the banksters, not their victims, and putting the cost on the taxpayers’ books. The government has also robbed the taxpayers of $3 trillion dollars to fight its wars. About $600 billion are out of pocket costs, and the rest is on the taxpayers’ books.
When foreign creditors look at the debt piled on the taxpayers’ books, they don’t see a good credit risk. Washington is so accustomed to ripping off the taxpayers for the benefit of special interests that the practice is now in the DNA. While bailouts are being piled upon bailouts, wars are being piled upon wars. Before Obama gets in any deeper, he must ask his economic team where the money is coming from. When he finds out, he needs to tell the rest of us.

The Republicans in Congress are Addicted to Reducing Jobs for Americans and Bankrupting Our Economy - http://pr.thinkprogress.org/2009/01/pr2009012...
And for those of you who 'blame' both sides....got news for you, I agree with you to an extent, its the con-servative dems that are hanging us out, but its the republicans PLATFORM (after Eisenhower) for government to fail, whether that be intervention, assistance, job creation, etc.... So yes, they are worse and its their fault...the $2 Trillion illegal war, the deregulation and subsequent pillaging of our national treasury, the destruction of the dollar, and the corporatist ideology taking hold of leglislation...

Jobless rates up in every state. GOP worries that more jobs will mean fewer votes for the Republicans, so keep people out of work. That's why no Republican in the House voted for the stimulus package.

The thing that really pisses me off is how much news coverage these little bitches (Boner, Mc Chinless, etc) get every goddamn night! I don't recall the opposition/minority party receiving this much media attention after bush was installed. Maybe I was just asleep?

and the repug news will give them all the time the cry for. we have no real news in this country. they have been giving the repugs air time about 10 to 1. so much for balanced.

He's DEAD!!

myself

+1,000,000 for L&P!

2nd worst president ever...

I laugh every time one of these desperate Repukes invokes that brained damaged, empty suit's name as if he was fucking Abraham Lincoln.

reagan left the country F-ed up, bush 1 left the country F-ed up, a dem fixed it with a surplus of money and jobs. then another repug, bush 2 took over and realey F-ed things up.

I was talking to the guy nextdoor the other day and I just do not get it. This guy was saying the New congerss is a bunch of crooks all the way to the top! I asked how Obama is a crook. He said that "N" should never have been aloud to run for president. he went on to say that the repugs fron texas are trying to fix things and they are the only people who can. I told him after 8 years of repugs running things they have F-ed up things so bad it is going to take years to fix them. he then said it was the left wing dems that F-ed up things. WHAT THE F*#K, do these people even live in the real world. He then said I should listen to this guy called savage on the radio, he would tell me the truth. I then asked him what he thinkd of drugie limbaugh and o'ralie. he said they are REAL Americans. what a f*$ktard. this is all I nedded, a dipshit living next door now. I would bet if he was here in November and saw my Obams/Biden yard signs this asshole would have done something retarted.

When the billions was just handed over to the assholes and banks last year the American did nothing. In France, the goverment was going to give tax dollars to there wallstreet nad banks and the people marched and fuck no. I have talked to some people from France and they think American are sheep. I asked what do you mean by that. He said you work as slaves in america. your goverment has been and have destroyed your unions and you let them. we work about a 30hr work week. we take 6 weeks of for vacation. hell you people get a job and have to work for a year befor you get a week off. we have medical, you pay for yours and then still go in the hole and lose everything. Your news is not news, its what the goverment tell it to say.
when you look around, you can see this.

Umm, WTF??

Says we can't keep the thermostat up at 70 degrees when we want...blah, blah, blah...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XXIvmJ8xenc

then when it gets cold in DC:

"he likes it warm, You could grow orchids in there.”

"Mr. Obama, who hates the cold, had cranked up the thermostat."

like bush was anything but a HYPOCRITE and a WAR CRIMINAL. This guy with a 22% of people thinks he is ok. bush went into office with the US had money in the bank, NO wars, and people with JOBS. He left office with the country with the higest unemployment in the histroy, 2 wars, the most jobs lost under any president in the US. and all you can bitch about is a thermostat.

oh, so the obligatory Bush-bash is now the required format here? like the obligatory Flag Pin to demonstrate your hypernationalism and patriotism?

before you bash me, you might want to peruse what I wrote in this thread last night.

just looking what he did for the last 8 years. war crimes, wire taping,11 trillion in the hole. tell me something he did that was good for our country.

tell you what Bush did that was good for this country?

LOL, that's an impossibility.

I guess you didn't read what I wrote last night. You falsely assume that I subscribe to the left/right paradigms that you do.
