that's their philosophy alright. there will be losers and a few winners. they don't give a shit. the wealthy hate the middle class. they hate safety nets. they don't care to understand that democracy won't exist without safety nets. they really don't want democracy.....BUSH revealed that.

The owner Ken Grossman always was pretty progressive. They grow their own hops next door to the brewery. Just a few years ago they were the ninth largest brewery. I went to college and lived just a few blocks away. (Chico, Ca) Watched them grow over the years.

I think Sam Adams beer is made in the U.S. too. We need to start getting some Patriotism back in our blood because Budweiser got their ass sold to Belgium or something. We got to fight against these NAFTA fools and start buying American again when we can.

Sierra Nevada was approached by Budweiser several times but the owner held out. He was driven by principle and was also a huge success. If he had sold, not only would it have become corporate owned but also, it wouldn't be American anymore.

but lack of details just means hints of nastiness without proof.

So when the grisly details came out in an UK court case (against the wishes of the UK gov and guilty officials), and when you consider the TLA types would have been there too, they didnt just send off a suspect in a box with an invoice and a SAE for their return.

This means US officials would have been present and most likely directing the type and severity of the torture to obtain any info.

They broke every international, US, and moral law code doing so.

Judges tentatively order Calif. inmates released
Feb 9, 6:50 PM (ET)
By DON THOMPSON

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - A special panel of federal judges has tentatively ruled that California must release tens of thousands of inmates to relieve overcrowding.

The judges say no other solution will improve conditions so poor that inmates die regularly of suicides or lack of proper care.

They say the state can cut the population of its 33 adult prisons through changes in parole and other policies without endangering public safety.

The three judges said a final population figure would be set later.

In Monday's tentative ruling, the judges said they want the state to present a plan to trim the prison population in two to three years.

SEC enforcement chief to resign
Posted: 03:31 PM ET

The SEC announced Monday that Linda Chatman Thomsen will be leaving the federal agency.

NEW YORK (CNN) — The top enforcement officer of the Securities and Exchange Commission is stepping down, the commission said Monday.

Linda Chatman Thomsen, who came to the SEC in 1995 and took over the
Division of Enforcement 10 years later, plans to return to the private sector.

During Thomsen's four-year tenure, the SEC saw the second- and third-highest number of actions in a single year, including large investigations into Citigroup, JPMorgan Chase and Merrill Lynch, the commission said in a news release.

But Thomsen and the entire commission came under sharp criticism for their handling of the Bernard Madoff case. Madoff, 70, faces a charge of securities fraud in connection with an international scheme that has cost some investors their life savings. Madoff estimated that investors lost $50 billion, according to the criminal complaint against him.

That "Hunger Motivates the Lazy" line reminded me that during the inaugural decade of the Reaganomics we're still living with, the 1980s, Tracy Chapman had a hit with "Talkin' 'Bout a Revolution", about how poor people were so fed up with being treated badly and not getting help that they were on the verge of revolution. It didn't happen, and it didn't feel like it would happen, even though Reagan's policies increased poverty to levels not seen in decades. People were just too beat down to fight much for their rights, and I think it's still the same today. Maybe even more so, because the sociopathic Reaganite ideology is now three decades entrenched in the public mind, and even Democrats now display the callousness toward the needy that was the province of the Republicans during the 80s. The Republicans have gotten even worse, even more like the hard-hearted Reagan, and the Democrats just follow their example.

These banks are insolvent and all we're doing is making the hole deeper by creating/borrowing more and more money to fix a problem that started because of our creating/borrowing.

CLUE TO THE STUPID PEOPLE.
The Stimulus Bill wont work as long as NAFTA and CAFTA are sending jobs overseas.
The TARP money wont fix shit because these banks are insolvent. The paper I wipe my ass with is worth more than their assets but they wont take the loses. Conundrum.
So, now, Geithner, the man behind TARP I, thinks that creating a bad bank and buying these bad assets at near 1:1 instead of market value will fix the problem.
Only thing is, now the American Taxpayer takes on the 9 Trillion dollars worth of shit.

And you people are alright with this.

Ferrofluid's picture

The banksters and their Congressional friends are going to do what is profitable for themselves. They are buying up the debt and supposedly securing the future profits of the share holding (middle) class voters.

Thats always what they do, its hard wired into populist politicos.

We could say 'let it burn to the ground and start again'

but IMHO the only important thing is keeping the economy going in some form or shape, total chaos and meltdown would not be a pleasant thing.

Jobs and industries and food supplies would grind to a halt.

Hopefully theres a few sensible types in Washington who care more about the system than profits for lobbyists clients.

Massive graft and corruption is unfortunately the price we are going to have to pay to save the system, the banksters control the financial system and could turn it off if at the the touch of a switch if they wished, its called blackmail.

It’s also a great place to start and ass selling business, new business owners economies get stimulated and so do the customers. It’s a win, win situation, America is on a road to recovery.

Gold rises on speculation stimulus may boost inflation
http://www.marketwatch.com/news/story/Gold-rises...

What we really need to do is reduce spending, tighten the belt and wait for this to shake out, it's called a correction for a reason, we should have stopped it on the trip up. The spending I mention in first post is more of a fall back since the government is hell bent on throwing borrowed money at it.

No matter what we do it is going to be bad, but deficit spending, investing in infrastructure with money we don't have is worse. The long term repercussions and agony will be far far worse than the pain of tightening the belt.

Everyone keeps referencing FDR's infrastructure building, people forget we held the debt of nations then, we had gold in the vault, we had assets to fall back on. That's gone now, today we are a debt ridden nation owing everyone.

I'd love to see a campaign to unseat John McCain develop an effective strategy in Arizona. He is old and past his prime if he ever even had one. We need to band together again and do what we did for Ned Lamont in Connecticut against the Senator from Israel Joe Liebermann. We ought to be able to knock a few of these lousy butts out of office.

one of the very few big cities that I have lived in that is not all that progressive. I don't know why the reality exists that the people in this city are basically conservative in nature. Maybe it is the heat. or the presence of an older population. LOL. But it does seem to be changing as more families move here rather than retirees...

The people who live in Flagstaff and Tucson are much more reasonable.

We need to utilize the 50 state strategy in Arizona and build up bases in Sedona and Flagstaff etc and knock away at the advantage the repubs have. They probably have a favorable memory of Barry Goldwater, but he is long gone as are his ideals.

"But the bottom line is somebody is going to have to take the loss – whether it's taxpayers or individuals and institutions that own bank shares and debt, says the author of Fixing Global Finance. "We are poorer than we thought we were." "

about time they caught on, good for them...

Lets see... "whether it's taxpayers" aka [individual(s)-Taxpayers]

or... "individuals and institutions that own bank shares" [Individuals] + [institutions]???

Question is, do/are those [individual(s) shareholders] US. taxpayers?

I believe the banks pay into the FDIC, so the less banks paying in means an increase in premiums too those that remain and so on and so fourth.

Absent a bank bail-out does the US. taxpayer win? What are the global ramifications? Give'em the bail-out and the players win... Who are the players and who wins the most?

Freeze the world(s) banks time for an audit... FAT CHANCE! :-)

We're getting closer to the truth, this should be interesting. The bankster's theory/scheme was quite rewarding while it lasted!

During the campaign, Obama always had me wishing he would be more aggressively proactive in stomping the rethugs, but then just as he was almost on the ropes, he would stomp their ass with a great sense of timing and counterpunch. Now, maybe, he's doing the same thing on the stimulus bill politicking. The rethugs have painted themselves into a corner by gambling that obstructing the obama version will pay off; obama, patiently, sucked them in to doing just that. It just may blow up in the rethugs face; ensuring their march into oblivion, led by the chief lemming, boehner.

Scientists Plan Emergency Summit on Climate Change: by David Adam - http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2009/fe...
Scientists are to hold an emergency summit to warn the world's politicians they are being too timid in their response to global warming. Climate experts from across the world will gather in Copenhagen next month to agree a stark message to policy makers, which they hope will break the political deadlock on efforts to curb rising temperatures.
The meeting follows "disturbing" studies that suggest global warming could strike harder and faster than expected. It comes ahead of a year of high-level political discussions on climate change, which climax with international negotiations in Copenhagen in December, where officials will try to hammer out a successor to the Kyoto protocol.
Even without the new information there was enough to make most policy makers think that URGENT ACTION was Absolutely Essential. The new information only strengthens that and pushes it even harder."

its only a matter of time with the jobs wpa obamas hawking before skid loads of thousand dollar bills dissapear from the pork parts of this bill, if they want a government program that helps people lets see the entire bill printed out line by line , and every dollar accounted for and shown where its spent, i heard one item in the bill was 200 million to be used for phillipino veterans of ww2 , where the hell does that create jobs in america?

ysbaddaden's picture
)O(

If they've been defrauded of their full benefits than it's worthy, not pork. It's money they can spend, and it would go into the registers of store owners, and local sales taxes collected.

It could very well be a seperate bill, but that would be doubling the cost of it's passage, at taxpayers expense.

Since when was this site so kosher?

perhaps what i said was a little misunderstood, yas , im not talking about american GIS im talking about phillipino troops , how does giveing them 200 million go into paying local taxes or benifiting american tax payers or creating american jobs? its the phillipine governments job to take care of thier veterans , it was thier country they defended against the japs!
