Maybe it's no coincidence that it was under a Republican president that the US created its motor vehicle interstate system and eliminated any other source of motor vehicle fuel than fossil.
Of course we need alternative energy source systems like solar to be more affordable for the public. Then we can reduce our dependence on foreign countries and really enter the 21st century. I hope Obama tackles this issue very soon.

The comic industry was probably leery of introducing a black character after Fawcett Publications did so in the Captain Marvel comics as a comic relief. He was a black guy in long johns and cape, with no powers, who wanted to be a Marvel. The outcry in protest was immediate from black neighborhoods. During the 1950's a TV broadcast of the 1935 serial The Lost City was interrupted for much of the same reason, becuase it was particularly offensive in the way it showed black natives. D W Griffith's Birth of a Nation faced howls of protest, because it made the fictionalized Klan the heroes.
On top of that, the Lone Ranger radio show, serials then TV show had RULES saying they couldn't introduce any black characters into the story for fear of offending the South.
A popular pulp-novel cowboy hero, Dead-Eye Dick was black, but when adopted into serial form, he was suddenly white.

The routine was pretty tame actually. I'd heard most of this before, with a few more four-letter words.
Not really sure why CBS found it offensive originally. Maybe Billy Ray Cyrus had a show on at the time? Dunno...

All we need is a rightwing "family values" nut to see it and accuse us of being gross or worse. Including a link to it would be better so those of us who are not amused by it don't have it staring us in the face every time we reload the page but anybody could see it who wants to look.
