She may have been tired from her trip following Hillary, but I found this kind of odd while she talked to Howard Dean about health care.

Mitchell: Does it ever worry you that this President is taking on too many issues. Because if the economy---which he could not have anticipated, the huge downturn that we've now experienced. He's got to worry about the banks, he's got to worry about the auto makers, he's got to worry about the insurance industry and the overall downturn and take on health reform at this time...

I think everyone knew that the economy was going to collapse in America and around the world, especially after Paulson pleaded for 700 Billion dollars before the presidential election ever took place.

Weren't you sleeping with the guy who bears the most singular responsibility for the mess we're in? Maybe you should have paid closer attention.

cover your ass question. Maybe, just maybe, she's being honest. Greenspan admitted (sort of) that his Ayn Rand economic philosophy turned out to be bullshit. In their ivory tower pseudo-intellectual world, maybe they didn't really know. Which is MUCH scarier.

But why do they and their buddies seem to be coming out very well?

But then again, those who don't believe that the very few who control so very much couldn't throw the economy into turmoil for their own benefit deserve what they get.

Typical.

uses so many code words and economic jargon (and gibberish) that he's usually indecipherable. But he gave shrub the political cover for his disastrous tax cuts. He was afraid that Clinton would pay down the debt too soon. Typical republican bullshit.

She’s still trying to cover for her hubby’s bad advice to the chimp!

The President HAS to take on a wide range of issues. That's the job. And, by the way, if anyone could foreseen the collapse , it should have been Mrs. Greenspan

Wow, she must be channeling Condi Rice...

Gave me crabs.

A true hallmark of the MSM: Push a meme that has no basis in reality, just because you need something to talk about.

Just because the former occupant, Failure-in-Chief Bush, couldn't handle more than a single crisis at a time (and it's debatable if he could even handle that much) ... there is no reason for President Obama to not do his job and clean up the mess left behind, eh?

You know the second he pays less than the amount of attention to a problem they think he should, they'd be all over him.

I watched that whole Michell segment and I thought "what is wrong with her". She stumbled and hesitated throughout the whole time segment. She didn't seem focused and lost her train of thought frequently.

Anytime she talks about the economy you have to put it through the filter that she is married to Alan Greenspan who admittedly doesn't know what he is doing.

she has directly profited from the bad advice we were given on the economy. she is married to former federal reserve chairman greenspan. i wonder if she has suffered at all in these down economic times. hmm.

and what she did was called a 'freudian slip' if i am not mistaken.

SNL need to do a "really?" segment on her and her husband.

why she is stillon the TV is a great mystery. she was only hired for her washington contacts. not for any on-air talent. now that her husband is persona non grata, i wonder how many cocktail parties she gets invited to?

What makes you think she and her husband aren't welcome at D.C. parties. If they excluded everyone who cheered Bush on, there wouldn't be enough people around to have a party. I'm sure Andrea's party schedule is as full as she wants.

i will be in DC this fall and will be at a few social functions while i am there. if i happen to run into them, i might very well wind up famous over what happens.

Ever hear Andrea criticize Israel for starving children, dropping phosphorus bombs on civilian populations or blocking medicine from getting into Gaza?

No?

And you want either. She is a Benjamin Netanyahu groupie who is more interested in Israel's well being than that of her own country.

Maybe she and Al should retire to one of the settlements built on land stolen from the Palestinians.

good to see him... it's kinda bittersweet...
i knew it was high hope, but i'd liked to have HIM selected as health sec.

I was kinda hoping he'd have been our 44th president back in '04. Bittersweet is right.

am rather grateful that the current president is not someone who consults his gastro-intestinal tract when making decisions. It is entirely possible that the entire Iraq debacle was the result of a severe case of diarrhea.

she couldn't wrap her brain around the sensible answers Dean was giving.

n/t

…Paulson pleaded for 700 Billion dollars before the presidential election ever took place.

As I was pointing out previously. Paulson's Plunder was the Shock Doctrine writ large, it was a set up.

He didn't know exactly what would happen when he let Lehman go bust, but by doing it the way he did, ie not protecting the commercial paper IOUs etc, he knew it would be bad.

Obama has asked for ANOTHER $750 billion if it is needed.
It will be needed because this is a heist.

Paulson did the setup. You have been fleeced.

Mitchel is the lead honcho for the Borg disinformation squad.

can work both ways Alice X. I absolutely agree that Obama should push for every systemic reform he can and right now. The shock doctrine as applied by the previous administration was based on creating fear and offering straw man solutions. Obama doesn't have to create fear. It's already there and fully justified. He might as well use it to make changes that need to be made.

I agree and you are right.

It has been said the only way that universal health care would come about would be in a time of distress.

Unfortunately, the Banksters are not being forbidden to lobby after they receive our money.

We give them money, they lobby some more.

Big Pharma is going to go all out for their self interest. The airwaves are controlled by the Borg.

The uphill climb is very steep.

Remember the 'Peace Dividend' after the fall of the Soviet Union. The one that was spent a dozen times on out sourcing the MIC.

by 2068 if we're lucky.

NBC should either dump Andrea GREENPAN(Mitchell)or have a disclaimer on the screen every time she speaks--that she is the wife of former Fed Chief Alan Greenspan, who helped drive our economic car in the ditch, then walked away and said he knew it had a flat tire.

OK, Freudian slip or not, she could she have simply meant that the situation is worse than anticipated when Obama was still a candidate and promising to tackle these issues. If so, the question was not artfully fashioned. But I see no great conspiracy here on the part of the MSM. I'm not Andrea's biggest fan (or, admittedly, her biggest critic), but this is not egregious.

The question itself, is the president trying to do too much at one time, I think, is legitimate, and I believe there are many people who, given the size and cost, would like that question asked and answered, MSM or no MSM. Also, many people do separate the issues of health care and the economy. Obviously, Dean was PREPARED to talk about it, and, like a good teacher, explained it in a totally understandable way.

He said without missing a beat that health care reform, if done properly, would help create jobs and relieve much of the burden on small and big businesses alike. He explained how various issues are linked, added details about how Canada's system is allowing that country to attract businesses and jobs away from the States and showed why he would have been an excellent choice (the best to my mind, but I'm no expert) to head HHS. (Blame the pres. for listening to Rahm too much, but Dean's defense of Gov. Sebelius was quite good as well.)

In fact, I hope Obama gets to see this clip. Dean knows how to handle the national media better than most thanks to all the practice he got during his tenure as Chairman of the Democratic National Committee. The treatment he's received from the Obama team to date has been terrible IMO, and yet he remains one of the most cogent voices around for Obama's policies. Somebody should take notice.

Damn straight.

Well said.

and it's a shame he didn't get the HHS job.

Maybe Obama can put him to use in some other way. I keep thinking the same thing about John Kitzhaber, Oregon's former governor, who ushered through the Oregon Health Plan and knows a huge amount about health care and its reform.

So either her lack of curiosity is abominable or she lives in a completely encapsulated reality, different from that which we unwashed masses inhabit. Now which is it? Is she stupid or merely unforgiveably clueless?

She was either on a time delay, too many people were talking in her ear or she was under the influence. I say give her a drug test.

What exactly makes Andrea think that Obama can’t handle this job? Is she using W. as a measuring stick? Let’s not forget that W was able to deregulate the banks, worked on destroying the auto maker unions, got to prop up the insurance industry and stymie health reform and was the cause of the depression that we now find ourselves in. No wait. That was the easy part. Nevermind.

Of the last eight years was enabled by Mrs. Greenspan's husband, aka Elmer. He flooded the entire system with nearly free unregulated money after the dot com crash when he should have let a minor recession cure the bust.

Universal health care will save this nation money. How?

Take all the money insurance companies spend lobbying & partying and spend it on patient care.

This is going to be the big one. The Republican Waterloo.

All that talk about "socialism" and wanting Obama to "fail" is about this fight.

Stimulus and the budget are a skirmish. A shakeout milk run to get the troops in line for the big fight.

They knew they couldn't win on stimulus because no one's ideology is being served by the economic disaster or its remedy. They'll probably punch back harder on the budget, because there's always plenty of what Krugman calls "Beavis and Butthead" material in budgets. That's stuff that sounds stupid until you expend some brainpower understanding it.

"$10 mil to study bear DNA?" Well, actually, yes because tracking bear populations is mandated by the endangered species act and this program is the most cost-effective way of funding it. Unless you believe in unfunded mandates? John? John? Someone wake him up.

But they'll ultimately give more than they get on that one.

But universal health care? That's the end of Reaganism. $10 mil for bear DNA can always be silently killed or reappropriated to study Iraqi bears or something.

But the Republicans know one thing in their dark, greedy, evil little hearts: once each of us is carrying a plastic card with our picture on it that says hospitals have to provide us with reasonable baseline treatment we will never, ever, ever, ever give it up.

Why do you think the Republicans fear "socialism" so much? Because once people have (democratic) socialism, they never give it up. Because it works.

In the Chicago School they call that the "paradox of democracy." Votes are distributed more evenly than money, so democracy, the self-interested will of the people, will always favor a downward distribution of wealth.

That's why you need someone like Reagan to sell them supply side economics like cigarettes.

Cons aren't scared because they think Obama's plan will fail; they're scared it'll succeed. They love to denigrate "European socialism" yet can't explain why the European electorate votes to keep it in place. They hate "socialized medicine" but can only point to a few extreme examples of waits for elective surgery. If it succeeds, the whole reason for their existence vanishes, making them truly irrelevant.

** Cons aren't scared because they think Obama's plan will fail; they're scared it'll succeed. **

Precisely.

She is trying to spin reality to favor her husband?

She should call her show All Bias, All Bull.

they act like them too.

I shudder to think what horrific creature their unnatural union would produce as offspring.

Ugh...

should just tell us what to do and quit asking questions. Oh me, Oh my! Will the grand poobah, the great oracle please show us the light to our safety?

Andrea Mitchell is a has-been journalist with little skill and knowledge. Her only gift is that she makes Alan horny.

when uber-rich people with access to the very best in health care get all fluttery and nervous at the mere thought of the rest of us being able to see a doctor.

It gives Howard Dean an opportunity to address the questions that are in a lot of peoples' minds. That's fine.

However, she was really out of it. Whether it was from the trip with Hillary Clinton or whether it was just an off day for her...she certainly looked like she was "time delayed" in her interview with Dean.

It IS a lot to take on. But NOW is the time to do it!!

"Well, Mrs. Greenspan. If you husband hadn't fucked up so many things as bad as he did. I am pretty sure there would be far less issues to resolve."

I think what she meant was that everything obama promised before the october crash should be put on hold until the economy is recovered. of course, there is no point in that, and one can argue that health care reform is apart of fixing the economy.
