David Gregory paints this phony outrage as a firestorm, but Friedman has to correct him. Even Tom Brokaw was stunned at the ignorance and stupidity of the right wingers going ballistic over President Obama's speech to our school kids.

Meet the Press:

MR. GREGORY: We brought it up with David Axelrod. Well, this has created such a firestorm. Here's the New Canaan Public Schools, writing a parent letter, and in it they say this. "In developing their plans our principals have considered issues such as developmental appropriateness, curricular relevance, the time at which the speech is being broadcast and the importance of teachers assuming responsibility for the selection of instructional materials. In elementary schools the administration and faculty will view the speech, download it and after discussing it, make decisions regarding how it might be used in the future--including deciding its appropriateness for various grade levels. Parents will be notified, if and when, the decision to show the speech is made." Tom Brokaw, talk about tortured language. What's going on here?

MR. FRIEDMAN: Signs of the apocalypse. I mean, really.

MR. BROKAW: It's stunning to me. I come from a time and a place in America where it would be thrilling to have a president of the United States address your school about the importance of studying and staying in school. And this president, whatever else you think about his political philosophy, is a symbol of working hard, coming from difficult circumstances and getting to where he is in part because of education. I think it's so ripe for satire, it's unbelievable. The superintendent of the Gettysburg Public School System said today that they have devised a plan for students to be shielded from a President Abraham Lincoln who will be coming to make an address. Look, that is the most tortured thing I can possibly imagine, what we just read there. It sounds like East Germany trying to form some restrictions on people leaving the eastern sector to go into the western sector. I think it's perfectly appropriate for parents to say, "I don't want my child to hear that. I would rather keep them out or put them in a different school that day." But this is completely out of control, in my judgment. And it's not--it's not partisan. I mean, if--when I was a student or when my children were in school...

MR. GREGORY: Right.

MR. BROKAW: ...if it had been Dwight Eisenhower or John Kennedy or Lyndon Johnson or Bill Clinton or Ronald Reagan or George Bush, the idea of hearing a president of the United States saying we should study hard and that's how we advance and we all need to get in on, on this, I think is an appropriate message.

MR. GREGORY: Mayor Giuliani, you ran for president and one of the things that I've noticed in my experience covering a Republican president,George W. Bush, is the lack of respect for the institution of the presidency. Whether it's people saying during Bush's time, "Hey, he's not my president." Well, no, yes, he is. Does that trouble you?

MR. GIULIANI: Yes, it does, and Tom is right. But the difference is we looked at President Eisenhower or President Reagan, even up to about that point, even President Bush 41 differently. There's a lack of respect for the president, there's a lack of respect for politicians. And David Axelrod said, "Well, this isn't politics." Everything the president does nowadays is politics, for better or worse. And I think that's what you're seeing. You're seeing people distrust the president's motives or the administration's motives. It's not just about the speech, it's about the lesson plan. I think it's unfortunate and I think, you know, what's the--it almost seems a shame to say what's the harm in a president speaking to a group of children.

FMR. REP. FORD: I wish when I was in fourth...

MR. GIULIANI: I think, I think the president should be given the opportunity to do it.

MR. FRIEDMAN: But David, you know, you said, it's a firestorm. And we live in the age of firestorms. You know, today, or this week, it's the president speaking in school. What it needs is for people to stand up and say that's flat out stupid, OK? That's flat out stupid what you're talking about. The president of the United States, addressing schoolchildren in this country to study hard, work hard because that's the way you advance in today's global economy. And instead of that, we kind of dance around it, you know. It's flat out stupid.

Wow, Friedman said something I can get behind here. "Signs of the apocalypse." That's how their reaction is to everything done by the president. Why didn't Gregory call it stupid too? Rudy couldn't even defend their actions. That's saying a lot when the only thing he can come up with is that it's all politics now. How does that make it OK? When will the media start acting like the f*&king media? They can't even do it for something as absurd as this.

It really is, isn't it? This is such a silly, invented rage that it boggles the mind. I can't believe it has come to THIS. What could the President say that we need to shield our children from?

should be "a mind is a terrible thing to use."

(Sorry, I meant this in reply to Dons Johnson's comment)

thing to waste."

We are living in a time of McCarthyism all over again. Anything that differs than the way they believe must be stomped out. Big business is god and greed is good. Welcome to the Fascist Party.

No

Democrats won the election, Democrats control both houses of Congress. Conservatives are losers and can stick their fascism up their ass.

should be "a mind is a terrible thing to use."

Americans wonder why the rest of the world laughs at it.

Americans before you get all haughty over how wonderful higher education is, just remember that many of the best brains at U.S. colleges and universities are foreigners whom are mandated to study abroad for two years.

All Americans in this case should be ashamed of themselves, including the jerks in the Corporate Fascist Media, who are fomenting this social discord.

Only in America could something so childish happen. "Adult" Americans acting this way, demonstrates how pathetic they are.

Excuse me, but this is just one of far too many episodes of the right-wing loudmouths screaming in fake outrage and scaring the sheep. With the full cooperation of the media. How much stupider does it have to get before Karl Rove's dancing partner admits that it's stupid?

Two points:

First, the outrage is real.

Second, it is the sheep that are outraged.

We will see - i still say it's just a few people that are everywhere at once, in low and in high places.

It's all about who gets the coverage. The Bush administration outraged a huge percentage of Americans, but those opinions didn't produce the same firestorms being created in today's national press.

Humans were smarter -- before the advent of television.

:D

When will we quit asking why the giant corporation media owned and operated by reugnacans will start acting like the media? It's not going to happen get over it. Journalisim as we knew it is dead.

MR. BROKAW: "I come from a time and a place in America where it would be thrilling to have a president of the United States address your school"

In that time and place in America it was also inconceivable to the vast majority of Americans that there would be a black president.

The irrationality* of the anger towards Obama smacks of rank racism.

* as opposed to the rationality of the anger towards Bush who started 2 wars, destroyed the economy, turned our reputation into shit on the world stage, lost Katrina and in general shit on the constitution.

Now all the righties are saying you played the race card again. They just don't get, or care, about facts.

Yes and if speaking the truth is blowing it, then most of us already have.

But 2 things factor into my favor:

1. It actually happens to be racism, so the claim I'm playing the race card is blunted by that fact.

2. I could give a fuck what ignorant people think or say about what I've said.

right -

the Republiscum have lost all credibility, so what they say has much less impact - the cost of being unscrupulous.

the Republiscum don't even have the integrity to feel shame, and we all know that is hardly the qualities we're looking for in out representatives. I'm pretty sure the republicans are dead men walking already. It just takes time for them to go down the drain - like into a black hole. While they fall they will squeel bloody murder. cover your ears!

when white people point out the rank racism coming from the right, is it still "playing the race card"?

no, the "race card" is reserved for fake outrage.

The outrage over Republican bigotry is legitimate. That's the difference to look for.

They never will, so we might as well disregard them altogether hense forth.

lately, nothing like this happened when I was little and we had to write letters to George H.W. Bush. The only reason people are losing what little brain matter they have over this is because they are racist assholes...

GW shit his pants on 911, in a FL classroom, if you did not complain then, shut the fuck up now. He put those kids in danger. I am calling you what you are, a dumb ass racist.

Wow, Friedman said something I can get behind here. "Signs of the apocalypse." That's how their reaction is to everything done by the president.

I think that the actual sign of the apocalypse is that Friedman calls it what it is...

Why didn't Gregory call it stupid too? ...

Er... Can you say Republican Shill? I mean, really, anyone who has Karl Rove as a dance partner... has to have his judgement questioned.

When will the media start acting like the f*&king media? They can't even do it for something as absurd as this.

As soon as the Corporate Media quits taking advertising money from corporations that have a vested interest in sculpting the public discourse...

It eats up media time. Who cares if you lose a worthless argument if you can avoid subjects like health care reform, torture, two illegal occupations, etc....

Yep

It's another "Oooh look, shiny!" trick to distract the hoi polloi.

My Precious.

Gollum can be forgiven for his behavior -- for humans, maybe not so much.

Boy does the MSM hate the democratic, uncontrolled-filtered-spun flow of information to and among the public worldwide.

The NY Times is a spiffy waste treatment plant.

And this is the NY Times. A liberal bastion of liberal ideas and information. What's next? The Wall Street Journal? ohhhhhh, the tragedy of it all.

BUT....

This is all the Republican Party has....OBAMA IS BLACK!!!!!

OOOOOOOOHHHHHH...SCARY......

He's not only BLACK...he's actually THE PRESIDENT!!!!!!!!!!

ooooooooohhhhhhh....EVEN MORE SCARY!!!

And he actually has IDEAS that JUST MIGHT WORK!!!!!!

THE ABOVE is what scares the hell out of these single-digit IQ dimwits and the very, very rich in this country.
OF COURSE YOU DON'T WANT HIM TALKING TO THE KIDS...THEY MIGHT START TO ACTUALLY THINK FOR THEMSELVES INSTEAD OF LISTENING TO ALL THAT PREFAB CRAP THEIR PARENTS LISTEN TO ON FuckNews...

Advice: To all those right-wing morons who keep their kids home from school...one day they'll grow up..and they'll realize how stupid and racist you are....maybe.

Until then...BE AFRAID...BE VERY AFRAID!!!!!

Amen. you got it right.

If they are afraid of the "scary black man", who cares?

Who gives a fuck what they think, they best learn to live with it and accept reality.

The inbred conservative racist bastards don't like it?

Tough shit.

This is America!

They are going to be miserable for a while but President Obama's medicine will make them better just like the rest of us. I bet they never stop bitching though - many of them have chosen their lot and don't have any idea how to back out now... poor bastards.

...because that's what it is. It's time to start calling out the wingnuts for their unsubstantiated, ratings-driven accusations. And we should point the spotlight at the unintelligent support system that these wingnuts are able to influence. Shame these idiots into silence.

plain and simple

and what is with the ripping of the net?

Because he is a yellow, cowardly lackey. He is a lapdog of his corporate masters who just does what he is told. He would rather grab his master's cash and feel like he is important even though the ratings on his laughable show are tanking.

"Because he is a yellow, cowardly lackey. He is a lapdog of his corporate masters who just does what he is told."

Ouch -- such truths can be painful!

These MSM/politicians (does Rudy wonder why we hate people like him?) mouthpieces of the elite are without an original thought.

One of the most disappointing actions of Obama recently was giving Sandra Day O'Connor the Medal of Freedom. An usurper of the 2000 democratic vote, she deserved impeachment. But I guess if you can give it to a long list of citizen tool criminals, it was appropriate.

Giuliani stated:

"But the difference is we looked at President Eisenhower or President Reagan, even up to about that point, even President Bush 41 differently."

'nuff said.

Well it seems to me that it is a little of everything in that it is stupidity to not want your kids to get to see the president speak about good work ethic and education. Some of what Giuliani stated “people distrust the president's motives or the administration's motives. It's not just about the speech, it's about the lesson plan” That is, some don’t trust what the left leaning White House is up to with no regard to skin color. Others still will just oppose anything he wants and a lot of them because of race. But after all a lot of stupid people would have and did protest and threaten to keep their kids out when Bush would attend public schools with no regard to what he was speaking about. I think the people some of them on this board that try to make this out to be only about whites hating a black president are some of these single minded people. It is never only about ONE thing.

I don't think you are a person of color Rick. Somethings not quite right here.

It's you're comment about undocumented folks coming across the border.
Anyway, I think you're a fraud. Cause in the internet, no one knows you're a dog.

Well your are wrong Mud. I am half. My father was born here my grandfather in Mexico. This may come as a shock to you Mud but there are a very good number of Mexican Americans that are not too crazy about illegals. I guess you would have to live here to fully understand. We are up close to it here.

Yeah, right. Obama (and his administration) are as much "leftist" as I am Santa Claus (I'm full blooded Irish, BTW and only SLIGHTLY overweight ;-p). If anything, I view most of his policies as centrist at best - conservative leaning at worst. This country has been pushed so far right by these fascist nutjobs from the last 8 years, that this seems left to you. I for one am SICK of this particular meme, so stop it. OK? Kucinich is a left-leaning politican - Obama? Not even close. Cheers.

And Giuliani is slightly right field, maybe not as wacko as the rest.

I respect wacko more (at least its honest) than that fuck who traded on 9/11 for his pathetic primary campaign.

Check out Jonathan Turley's page. He has a CNN video of some twit breaking into tears over the prospect of her child listening to a speech by the president.

http://jonathanturley.org/

their kids have to be shielded from life and reality, until their hate programming is set in stone.

...because he will be saying something totally dickish in less than a Friedman unit, so it will all balance out.

;o}

...Tom is being lucid in this instance, which begs the question: "Mr. Friedman, why are you such a douchebag the rest of the time?"

made a speech that was beamed to schoolchildren when he was Pres and I don't recall hearing any uproar. And, I'm thinking Reagan or another Pres in the last couple decades did, too. (p.s. I looked briefly and found that Reagan made a talk and actually answered questions from school kids around the nation on 11/14/88 - it was carried on C-Span and beamed into classrooms via TV)

And, Trantorian ^ ^ - looking at GHWB Bush 'differently' was really the beginning of our slide to this place we find our selves. He's the real Crook - and all of his cronies and kids have been carrying on his crimes against the nation.

Every socially responsible Republican has spoken out against this abusurdity. That means none.

The we can all participate.

Come up with at least ten totally outrageous, preposterous, untrue controversial items about Obama, his Administration, the Dems, etc, and post them all on right-whiner sites, or email to your whiner "friends" or relatives, and then see how many make it to the national MSM. Then you can be interviewed and tell all that this was something you pulled out of your ass and the right-whine and MSM all fell for it. Thereby proving what a total sham it all has become.

Mind you, this is just something to do to pass the time while the US craters.

Enjoy!

Have to make up "ten totally outrageous, preposterous, untrue controversial items about" RNC leaders, RNC, etc... and then compare how many, if any from each group go viral. Good way to gauge the left/right leanings of the media.

Beck and his zombie cohorts at Faux have the market cornered in stupidity and lies.

Beck cannot even come up with an alibi for that fateful night in 1990...

Have you seen a whisper of this in the MSM or on TV news !?

Raunchy goings on in Gov. Sanford's SC office.

She allegedly was doing lap dances in his office. She is a fundie xtian and was Sanford's education person for SC.

He recently twittered:

“Watchdogs: FIND EVERYTHING YOU CAN ON CASS SUNSTEIN, MARK LLOYD AND CAROL BROWNER.”

I didn't even know who they were, except Browner.

They are, respectively, the nominee to head the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs, the Associate General Counsel and Chief Diversity Officer of the FCC, and the Assistant to the President for Energy and Climate Change. Browner was also administrator of the EPA for all eight years of Bill Clinton’s presidency.

about beck? I mean, really. There MUST be something absolutely true in his past that can take him down. He's made the sheeple so angry, they're likely to turn on him if the "skeleton" is particularly juicy.

That all the "totally outrageous, preposterous, untrue controversial items" about RNC leaders, groups, always turns out to be true.

When Frieman said it was STOOOPIDD!.
Am I the only one that picked up on DG being embarrassed? He was humiliated. Good one Tom. Both of ya. And Harold. You got out of the 4th grade in 79????
Oh mannnn, I'm feelin old. I got out of the Army in Dec 78.
Oh Harold, howzabout growin a serious pair of stones? Huh?
I mean really. You're JOB is to represent the people who have no representation! Get a Clue Harold. So Far, you're a disappointment.

stupidity. And even though Harold's a weak politician, his point was right. I wasn't even born yet in '79, but I was around for Bush 41's speechifying to school children, and we wrote letters to the White House and such at that time, but the sky did not fall. So it's difficult for me to understand this mentality...

As I pointed out in another thread, Rudy can't criticize anyone for delivering policy speeches to school children because he did it too.

(In the "other thread" in question, I noted how Rudy NOW says today, "We focused too much on Iraq" after criticizing Democrats for saying "Iraq is NOT the central front on the War on Terror.")

Every day a changing story, every day a new lie.

The only reason the Obama speech to the kids has caused all this stink is because of the racists that consist of the republican party and their token "Toby be good boy's" in the press!
Just face it, they can't stand the fact that a smart well-educated ans WELl-SPOKEN blackman is living in their house!
For God's sake, Bush was sitting in a puddle of his own piss in front of a class of kids 9 years ago, while this country was enduring it's worst attack on it's homeland ever and he's considered a hero, give me a break!!

amen!

Well that was a good discussion in some ways obviously, but look how the host and the Giuliani just had to create a false dichotomy with the Democrats.

Why exactly is the media to blame here? We need to stop telling the media to act like the media - because the media calling one side of any debate stupid no longer has any impact. What we need to do it have the stones to stand up and say we won't take this crap anymore. It's not the media's job to say this is ridiculous. It's ours. Want your kids to see the speech? Call your school and demand it. Tell them you're going to show up and not leave until there's a place it can be seen. The folks intimidating schools into not showing the speech are doing just that.

Stop whining about the media not doing its job. 10,000 commentators calling it ridiculous won't matter a lick. What matters is PEOPLE standing up and calling it ridiculous, so school principals aren't left to battle against the folks demanding the speech not be shown by themselves. The media's done what can be expected here - it's told you this is going on. Now go be a democracy and fix it.

you got that right!

Friedman should have stopped his gabby abby at "stupid." He went on to say that "...the Internet is an open sewer." "Give the war in Iraq Six More Months" Friedman wears floaties covered in poop, for crying out loud! He should have brought along an editor to shut him up before he revealed his true feelings about this pesky medium that fact checks and does follow-up. He's a real pip, that Friedman. A real pip.

++++

Now THAT'S a sign of the Apocalypse.

Or maybe a sign of the Puppy Lips.

I just don't know.

And this in the liberal bastion of Connecticut! Just imagine what's going on in Texass.

"George Bush got to where he got because he studied hard".

Are they kidding?

On how to do blow and pound Jack Daniels. He has a Masters at partyin.

...

1) A fool and his money are soon parted. There's a fool born every minute.
2) There's three things matter in bidness: 1)Location, 2) Location and 3) ya got it!
3) Buy Low; Sell High.
4) There's an ass for every seat (car bidness version).
5) ANYTHING for a buck.

"Business ethics" is the paragon of an oxymoron: a perfect self-contradiction, the exemplar of mutually exclusive universes.

MBA

And then there's Dubya, who's daddy got him into Yale, where he payed people to write that shit down for him.

Let's get this out right up front - I think David Gregory is a shithead. He has a right-wing chip on his shoulder and is playing it for all it's worth. He's not smart enough to even try and keep up with his guests. You can easily see this in pandering as he does it to Rudy Giuliani...it's truly disgusting...he's just not smart enough to keep up.

Fools like Gregory and his ass-kiss colleague Chuck Todd, make it so clear they want Chimpy Bush back along with all of his criminal pals because things were so simple with chimpy...Now Gregory and his colleagues have actually got to do some work to find FACTS and it's clear most of them don't know how - Gregory included.

All that was presented today was neonut racism...Gregory should just get his Klan robe out and wear it on the set !!!

"The internet is an open sewer of untreated, unfiltered information"

This comes from Talking Heads on TV, the very paragon of treatment and filtration.

Tom Brokaw lamenting about 'so much disinformation' in the media was particularly rich.

Meanwhile, the crazies are running CIRCLES around rationality, the 24-hour News Cycle is an uninterrupted bath of stupid, and mis/dis-information, and the Right is spending untold MILLIONS to control the frame, and its working...

It's Working, people. IT IS FUCKING WORKING!

Or so the MSM would have us believe...

It could be "we the rational" will need to go down to city hall on this one, and leave the MSM out of it - what a concept! - and i like it!

leave the MSM out of it.

take the MSM out of the political loop!

what has the MSM done for us lately?

excise the MSM from the workings of politics now. visit your representative today.

It reminds me SO MUCH, of the late 70s, when the media carried BIG stories..like a bunny rabbit attacking President Carter.

Carter..the last president to work on ending American dependence on foreign oil.

That philosophy disappeared during the Reagan/Bush/Bush administrations.

Clinton...Republican (light sweet crude)

Surely, to be this stupid, your head must hurt all the time. Surely, this level of stupidity must something like Halley's Comet. When was the last time a populace was so fucking stupid?

The populace has always been relatively stupid.

The question is, "when was the last time a populace was so manipulated?"

n/t

"It's Clinton! The black helicopters are coming! He's going to take away our freedoms! He's going to destroy our Churches and take away our guns!"

. . .

America would not be worse off for a lack of churches and some stricter gun controls, bring back the assault rifle gun ban for example, which GWB let lapse in 2004. And make churches bodies that promote politics pay taxes.

Just glad it's getting called out for what it is. It's about time

The Nation Wackos (RNC) Racist Nazi Christians have only ONE agenda the DESTRUCTION OF AMERICA, please note this is a continuation of the MORON regan the Alzheimer CLOWN who had the bush administrators running this country, then they elected vp, Then a Real President then the TALKING MONKEY Mr Corporate Approved SUPREME COURT APPOINTED, BALLOT BOX FIXED (OHIO) Mental Midget bush with his AMERICAN TRAITOR vp cheney. Now you think these WACKOS are STUPID do you think? DUH!

It's because we have this insane right wing fringe out there that manages to start these firestorms. The media picks it up. It becomes mainstream, and the GOP leadership sits back in that smug little way just lovin it. Well, we can be sure that the next time a Republican president wants to address the school children, those on the left should start having a hissy fit. Or how about the next time ANY elected official is asked to address school children? Are we now going to turn children into political footballs, and not allow anyone to speak to them unless the parent feels the person is of the correct political persuasion. This makes me furious, but it's also incredibly sad that right wingers (and I DO blame them) have created this environment. It's also sad that school boards and the media have buckled under to this right wing hysteria. It makes me worry that much more about the fate of this country.

Stupid? Maybe. That's one theory to explain the unexplainable behavior. Maybe the reason certain people buy into these irrational Obama stories isn't because they are stupid or even irrational. They latch onto them because they dare not say what's really on their mind. Obama is black. These "issues" allow them to express what they can not express out loud.

Why wouldn't they want their kids to listen to a talk by Obama? Because he's black and they don't their kids picking up on his "niggra" ways or even thinking that it's acceptable. They are trying to keep their kids away from such influences.

Why continue to push to see Obama's birth certificate even though he published it on the Internet for all to see? Because no "niggra" has any right to be president and no amount of evidence can change that for them. They don't care that he published his birth certificate because that's not what it's about.

How is it that anyone can believe that Obama is Muslim although he is not and has never been Muslim? It is because he has no right to be president in the first place and if tagging him as a Muslim helps in that regard all the better. If that doesn't stick then he is a liberal/fascist/ communist/leftist goon bent on destroying all that good and free. And there is no point in arguing about any of this because the real problem -that Obama is black- can't be said out loud and these things are just a surrogate for a conversation they can't have.

Healthcare? They don't know what that may entail, but they know that Obama wants it and they aren't going to have anything to do with "niggra" healthcare. Individual points and issues may rise and get shot down, but it doesn't matter. They know what they know and know what they feel and it isn't really about healthcare anyway.

I normally detest identity politics, but rack my brain as much as I can to avoid it I have to face facts. If you want to call these people stupid or irrational you certainly can, but I've listened and some of them are very well spoken and quite rational. Suppose we accept that these are not irrational people just to see where that leads. Then what? What explains their irrational behavior and loony rhetoric?

If you assume they are just normal everyday, well, racists who cannot express their racism then what they are doing and saying makes sense. It is not irrational. That's why they pump up fantastic bizarre issues that make no sense to non-racists and that defy any and all evidence that contradict them. That's because these "issues" are only a substitute for what they can't say out loud. It's all about having a half black person as president which they see as illegitimate, not because of his policies of which they remain largely ignorant and don't care, but because of Obama himself. Making this assumption then the actions make more sense. They real problem isn't what the say about this or that "issue." It's about what they can't say. It's about "niggras"

Admittedly there are a number of people who have piled onto this craziness that aren't especially racist. They are mainly opportunists lacking principles at all good or bad. However, I am quickly coming to the conclusion that it is racism that is the fuel for the madness. Otherwise these people could just say what they mean instead of needing to latch onto these nonsensical crackpot ideas to express what they feel.

Judging by the vote for Obama in the election these people are very much in the minority, not even enough numbers to tip the election. But damn, they are noisy bastards. We ought to recognize them for what they are and stop trying to make sense out of what they are saying. It's not important. It's what they can't say that is the problem. Their problem. Not ours.

Of course, NONE of these people will own up to it.

Not the MSM cowards, not the right-wing talking heads...NONE OF THEM.

But GET THEIR ADVERTISING PULLED...all of a sudden THEY ACTUALLY START TO GIVE A DAMN...amazing, ain't it?

Good idea. It's not like 200,000,000 people are completely helpless if we work together to maintain sanity.

Bigotry has become the rallying cry of the Republican party. Thus they are finished - they just don't know it yet.

Note how that insipid, grinning monkey David Gregory attempts to frame it as, "Well, yes, but didn't a bunch of dirty effing hippies loudly declare that George W. Bush wasn't 'their' President, too? Not that we ever reported that, or any antiwar protests by those filthy scoundrels. But isn't that JUST THE SAME as parents taking their kids out of school for a speech about the importance of education?"

God. I just. Loathe him, honestly. Deeply stupid, not an inch of credibility, Beltway parrot- that's David Gregory, the dumbest guy on television.

MTP needs to retire - it belongs to a previous era.

know this period of republican culture centuries from now as the beginning of the Palinozoic Era or in the common tongue as "the stupids".

In talking about misinformation that people are spreading / retrieving on the internet, once again we hear (this time from Brokaw) that "this is across the board, by the way." No Mr.Brokaw, it's not "across the board." The right wing crazies and their elected officals, Fox News, Ditto Heads etc.are the ones sending viral e-mails and telling people to go out and interrupt the nearest Town Hall meeting. Town hall meetings have been going on for years. But I have never seen a crazier, angrier bunch of crazies I see out there now.

New Canaan, CT
Someone below called this the liberal part of CT.
Though it is in the heart of liberal CT, we are forgetting one big fact about who lives in that town!
GLENN BECK!
I am sure the hometown hero's paranoia has washed over the schoolboard when his wife wrote a letter to the schoolboard and had her girlfriends did the same!
http://gawker.com/5187225/paranoid-faux-popul...

I wonder if you could get the town to secede from a resident..just a thought...

Isn't it "Teh stupid"?
*

I can't stand up in a crowded movie theater and scream "fire", and then claim 1st amendment protection. So why do right wing bloggers get to raise unsubstantiated claims on web sites that result in angry mobs of right-wing idiots pulling their kids from school or arming themselves and appearing at town-hall meetings? Is rumor and vitriol aimed at our commander-in-chief protected by the 1st amendment, or is it criminal?

Because pulling their kids from school or arming themselves and appearing at town-hall meetings are both legal.

After the President of the United States speaks to school children about the value of education, Republicans will make opposing comments extolling ignorance.

...why people wouldn't respect politicians anymore. It's a real mystery, Rudy.

They couldn't just stop at calling outrage over Obama speaking to school children stupid, they had to keep going to call out everything on the internet stupid.

Is what is on the internet any more stupid than what was on the MSM during the 2000 election about Gore stupid, or about WMD, or about torture? It seems to me that what Brokaw really wanted to say was that we, the people, need talking heads like him to tell us everything that we need to know. *rolling my eyes*

Stupidity is stupid.

But did we really need FlatHead to tell us what we already knew?

A Reslug finally admitted just how terribly stupid, racist and braindead the Right Wing-NutO's and terrorists are acting today.

Problem is that most of the Right Wing-nut lunatics and terrorists can read, so they unfortunatly listen to Limp-Dick Blimpaugh, Fattity, O'Lielly or other race baiting, Reslug liars and bigots.

I work for a school district and trying to make students responsible for thier classroom behavior and responsible for their homework is next to impossible. Their idea of school is to visit with their friends.

I bet dollars to donuts that the parents who do not want their students to listen to the president are the same ones who complain to the teacher about their childs grades and call the administration when little Johnny or Sue get called on the carpet for their behavior.

I don't have any kids in school, but I would love to see parents who want their kids to see the president speak keep their kids out of school.

say again?

Is that for me, Ape-Man?

yes, i'm not quite getting your idea - can you paraphrase?

BTW -i was watching CNN today for a moment and it was sick - saying stuff like President Obama is loosing "white people". CNN may not be bigoted but they have racism full the way up their asses. Embarrasing and disgusting all at once. I'd forgotten how sick CNN can be because i quit watching any of it. Now i remember why. I've never felt better and i have time now to go out and visit my local reps.
