(h/t Huffington Post - original video from NJ.com)

There's a special place in hell for people like this:

Congressman Frank Pallone (D-NJ), the man who recently "let it be known" that he'd step in should Gov. Corzine drop out of the New Jersey gubernatorial race, had his hands full at a town hall meeting in Red Bank last week.

A new low for these meetings may have been set when the crowd shouted down a wheelchair-bound woman with "two incurable auto-immune diseases" who had the gall to ask a question. Read on...

WTF is wrong with these people? I struggle to understand how their minds must work. It has gotten to the point where I can barely stomach these videos, but we must continue to put them out there and expose the ugly truth about the Republican Party and the fringe crazies who are out there doing their bidding.

Robert Creamer wrote a really good piece in the HuffPo called: Why Health Insurance Reform Will Pass This Fall -- It's the High Political Ground. I direct you to it since it blows a hole... no, four holes... in the stuff Morning Joe and his friends were putting out this morning.

The basic points (read the article for the expansions):

1). Most Americans - including swing voters - can't stand the health insurance industry.

2). The Obama Administration will use every ounce of its political capital to win this battle.

3). As the vote grows closer, many moderate Democrats will begin to realize the price they will pay personally if health insurance reform fails.

4). Finally, the pundits have ignored a critically important new development : the Obama base has been energized.

Creamer has hit the nail squarely on the head: Obama is not going to lose this because he CAN'T lose this. It has been a long time since we have had a Democratic President with this kind of focus... and when he uses his incredible ability to have a positive finish we will find ourselves not only supporting him, but forgetting about most of the crap that has happened during the Congressional break.

The real losers in the Health Care fight are going to be the Grassleys, the DeMints, the Inhofes and the Enzis who will take the $17 million plus they have received from the Insurance Industry and try to explain to their constituents why their perceived strength was only an excuse to make a buck.

After this goes through the polls will show that Americans never had any doubt that Obama and the Democrats would get reform through.

Under The LobsterScope

1) Yes.
2) No evidence to support.
3) Hypothetical.
4) Hard to tell because it's not being reported.

Whatever they do will have to have the support of the insurers and big pharma.

I'd like to think that we will get a good public health insurance plan but HR 676 is the only good one, it's been sitting there for years, and nobody is even talking about it.

Because WE are NOT "limbaughzed" by any stretch of the imagination. And WE will fight these ANIMALS with everything we have. (AND WE WON IN NOVEMBER!)

Don't forget we are fighting the Insurance Companies, and THAT is why it appears there are so many of "them."

With role models like Limbaugh and Beck and O'Reilly, the country is doomed.

Growing up, I always remember people being loud and uncouth, but not uncivilized and sick, I mean, it's really mentally ill to verbally abuse a handicapped person.

These people shouting "fascists" might try to remember how Hitler treated the handicapped.

I'd bet 80% of them are sociopaths.

This is just disgusting. This comes from the likes of Beck. A few weeks ago, when he called Obama a "racist," he also said that he believed people will and should stop being politically correct. That's what these people are doing, although it is far worse.

Yes, there is a place in hell for people like this, and I'd be the first to push them through the gates.

Mob justice is synonymous with panic and violence. Mob justice is not justice. Playing their game will not help the situation, lowering ourselves to their level will not make things better, nor will it bring us more support.

But more like that we should stand up for ourselves, and physically fight them, if necessary.

If they won't listen to reason, then we may have to take more aggressive measures.

But We must keep trying to talk sense to them...Al Franken proved that it can be done.

I'm just saying, if they won't listen, then what are our options?

Let them win?

It is truly depressing that a sizable portion of our population believes that caring about whether your neighbor lives or dies is a radical position. When they see a fire truck or an ambulance stopping across the street, do these people say "Don't stop! Let the place burn! Let the people die! It's their fault!"

deang's picture

When they see a fire truck or an ambulance stopping across the street, do these people say "Don't stop! Let the place burn! Let the people die! It's their fault!"

Some do blame victims in fires. They're called Libertarians, and they want everything privatized, absolutely everything, including fire protection services, so that only those who can afford fire protection services will be able to have house fires put out when they occur. We're already seeing that in parts of California dominated by right-wing ideology. It's sick, very real, and very American, or at least very post-1980 American.

1. Conservatives don't care? Are you serious? If you look at donations to charity, people who describe themselves as conservatives donate something to the tune of 3 times as much as those who describe themselves as liberal.

Citation? It's simply not believable.

2. Liberals feel the need to FORCE people to do the "right thing" (or their version thereof) because they know the THEY, personally, won't do it without being coerced. They project their character flaws on everyone else, and demand that the almighty "Gubmint" swoop in to force compliance. It's pretty sad, really...

It's about having a responsibility in caring for everyone. Lack of compassion, lack of empathy - understanding others - is, in my book, a despicable trait.

3. It's about Liberty. These people seeing their freedom to choose their own path being taken away - and they're pissed off

Now, I understand the 'liberty/freedom' aspect. You want to choose you own path, choose it without the benefit of anything our society has to offer, starting with the electric gird, running water, paved roads, and not contributing to the coffers. Start you own little continent somewhere.... but to put it bluntly, I'm SICK of your lot. It's not about liberty or freedom. It's about doing whatever the fuck you want, whenever the fuck you want and having no one stop you. Personified in the form of the idiot who had his pinkie tip bitten off all while protesting coverage for everyone while being on Medicare.

They sound like selfish children to me. Where is their heart? I mean how can you yell at that lady in the wheel chair? How can you believe that if you're old someone will come to you door and kill you? What kind of mind seriously thinks such thoughts? Have they been brainwashed? It sure does seem that way.

Obviously the people impatiently yelling "Ask the question" didn't want the lady to elaborate on her full situation because in there minds she might have scored sympathy votes for her cause. But context is important in matters of health care. In fact its more important than almost anything else.

If you're in a room full of young people, with healthy parents/grandparents and has never experienced any debilitating diseases. I can understand why you'd be upset that you had to foot the bill for other people. But if by some misfortune your life experience has been anything else, maybe not so.

Matters of health will visit everyone someday so that experience will come. Thats the good thing about the Healthcare debate, it can be less nebulous and ideological. People need to bring personal experiences into the debate more I feel. Pro and Con.

-Bricked-'s picture

Look even dumber is that they're already footing the bill for someone else. Only that someone else is some other guy who has a policy with the same company as opposed to a random citizen with government insurance.

deang's picture

If you're in a room full of young people, with healthy parents/grandparents and has never experienced any debilitating diseases. I can understand why you'd be upset that you had to foot the bill for other people.

People in other countries can't understand why Americans can't empathize with people who have experienced pains that they themselves haven't yet experienced. It baffles them, especially since Americans weren't always so awful. Since the rise of Reagan, Americans have become an enigma, a dangerous enigma that serves as an anti-model for the rest of the world.

-Bricked-'s picture

I once read, on I think the BBC, one of the main reasons why the British have such strong support for their health care system was the collective hardships they all endured during the German Blitz. Here in the U.S. we don't really have anything comparable to that. Some people will try to argue 9-11 or Dec 7, but the fact is that attack didn't hit and affect anywhere near even a 5th of the country, and it was only a single major attack, as opposed to repeated attacks on the capital of the Empire.

Biden is speaking right now on c-span about the progress of the stimulus bill. No cable channel feels it is necessary to cover the Vice President's speech.

This is never was a debate. There is no way to change the minds that have been filled with fear and smear. It will never happen. What we need is a party and president that stops the game of working with the right to have a bill pass with votes from both sides. We need pure leadership. A party and president that will stand up and explain the bill without concessions to the party that has contaminated the reform with lies and fear at the same time they are supposed to be negotiating in good faith. Pass the bill without right wing votes and make the reform solid and effective. In time some minds might change to see the benefit of reform, but to continue down a road that might lead to getting these people on board is insanity. And make no mistake, this attitude from the frightened was not caused by "both sides are guilty of inflaming the debate" as MSM would seem to believe, the fault for the mindset, reactions and future ramifications of this fear falls directly at the feet of the republican party.

Half of the so-called "left wing" is on the corporate same payroll as the right wing, so there idea of a united party is an illusion. The only union is between corporate money and politicians.

I was afraid you might have read about it in the NY Times. They haven't gotten much write since that
Walter Concrete died.

Say what you mean. Mean what you say. But don't say it mean.

For these individuals. It's pathetic and embarrassing that our nation is populated with so many ignorant voters..yes, they probably vote. I hope to hell they don't but who knows?

How disconnected can these people be? I want mine, but I won't pay for you. How christian of them.

take a moment to listen to this speech by Robert Kennedy, The Mindless Menace of Violence from April 5,1968. The brilliance of this man comes at the 2:45 mark. This is the most accurate description of the past eight years and the continued approach of the right wing and the effects of their approach to governing. We are seeing these effects everyday now. Brilliant in it's foresight and understanding of how fragile the American society really is.

Very disturbing. I taped about 30 minutes of it. 90% of the crowd was anti-Obama, anti-health care reform, shouting, cursing, screaming out Liar, Communist, Socialism! I stood behind that idiot with the green signs for two hours waiting to get in.

A revolution is coming people, courtesy of Glenn Beck's rabid dog audience. I don't mean change, I mean violence and blood. Get ready.

At least at the hands of these cowards.

Sure one of them will probably blow up a building or two. Someone will hole up in their sprawling compound.

The reality is that these people are nothing more than bullies. Scared little bullies and they should be treated as such.

Yeah, there's a revolution coming, but one without bullets and guns. We will either fall to the mighty mega-corporations and their respective rules and laws. However, we may rise above the yokes of unrestricted capitalism upon our daily lives and strive to become better stewards of the Earth and protector of our brothers and sisters.

Shit... What the hell did they put in my water this morning? (Wait, I don't want to know).

The goal of HannityBeckFoxWingnuts is to make the majority of Americans think there is this overwhelming groundswell of pissed off patriots ready to take up arms. But they are an obnoxious loud uninformed group that makes sure they get to where the media cameras are located. And the groups that ignite and support them make sure they know where to go.

or recognize...is that THEY will be the ones on the business end of the Feds guns.
They are on the wrong side of this debate.
History will view them as the ignorant, brainwashed, mouth breathing hordes they are.
They are fascists, whether they know it or not.

These chicken shits won't do a goddamn thing. We might see random acts of terrorism, but the majority of these people don't have the balls to do anything more than shout down a crippled person. They won't even tell Jessie Ventura that waterboarding isn't torture to his face.

Someone sticks an M-4 with an M-203 grenade launcher to their face and I guarantee these wannabe confederates or what the fuck they're trying to be, will sit down and shut the hell up.

Same look that Michelle Bachmann , Michelle Milkin & Sarha Palin have.

Putting the mistreatment of the woman-in-wheelchair aside...

This Brian Donohue/The Star-Ledger guy seems to me to be a closet Libertarian. The Centrist bullshit act is just that -- a Centrist Bullshit Act.

I just love Donohue's I'm so hip, I'm above all the debate and both sides are just a bunch of crazies. And by the way, I'm a Centrist, so that means I can objectively determine what going on, so believe my video crap.

I hate it when the media plays in the land of the false equivalencies. I sure Donohue is a Centrist on Climate Change too. I not saying, I'm just saying.

to achieve plausible deniability nirvana for conservatives.

Heck, now it seems there were no conservatives supporting Bush at all... it was us liberals who put him in power, ain't that a b*tch?

The only other time you wouldn't be surprised to see a handicapped woman being booed and jeered at is a wrestling match

...that, at least, in Georgia the company(ies) that write the majority of 'mal-practice' insurance - that's what the tort-reform issue is supposed to be about - are consortiums owned by doctors. I mean if it costs so much then why don't you just lower your premiums? It's certainly not because of all the judgments that have been going against you - those are no greater than they've been in forever. No, it's because you guys have figured out yet another way to make money off sick people.

Did you see how wide open her eyes were? Rupert's Dementia!

Interviewer: "What part of the bill is that?" (The part where seniors are refused care)

Lady: "The death plan of Obama."

Gosh, I wonder where on Rupert Murdoch's Fox network she heard that lie...
