WASHINGTON (Reuters) – U.S. President-elect Barack Obama may consider delaying an election promise - to roll back tax cuts on high-income Americans - as part of his economic recovery strategy, two aides said on Sunday.

I thought thruout his campaign he was going to increase tax for the wealthy and cut off corporate loophole that get them out of paying taxes.

Excuse me Tom may-be we didn't have $ 3 trillion to waste on the Iraq misadventure you endlessly boosted . You're covered with Iraqi blood up to your mouth so what you say is garbled.

If Obama puts brilliant scientific minds and management at the top, there's no reason these bozos can't be fired when they can't do the job. Of course, it would be easier for Obama to just replace them at the outset, but it isn't an insoluble problem.

They know who they are. They'd be smart to start looking for other jobs if they want to be employed without a break.

Under coercion. It seems politicians try to sound academic by adding unneccesary terminology.

Funny thing, if a court finds a contract was signed under coercion the contract is voided, but it's fine if it's a peace treaty ending a war.

if Bushit is burrowing these manchurian employees, can't Obama or whoever else just fire their asses?

Milquetoast's picture
No.

they would be considered political firings. Obama would be on the hot seat. republicans would bring up the recent dept of justice firings..(Alberto)..immediately and cry foul.

If they are not qualified for the job, I think he could replace them easily without a hitch. People voted for a change and that includes getting rid of cronies with corporate interest over the welfare of the people.

Incoming presidents don't replace civil service employees, just political appointments.

Civil service employees can be fired if they are unable to do the job though. There must be an egregious failure that is solidly documented by management (and no other employees may have committed the same failure without losing their jobs), but it can be done.

You're comparing apples and oranges. Incoming administrations routinely fire appointees from another. What made the DOJ firings odd was it was the administration's own appointees, and there seemed to be clear retaliation for not bringing up any "voter fraud" cases. No cases being brought foreward was because of a lack of provable cases not malfeasance.

However, the repugs will try to link the two, and I have no faith in the American public anymore to distinguish them.
