Still Not Ready To Spell

It appears that would be President Camacho er,...McCain still doesn't understand that newfangled spellcheck device.

Is it elitist of me to say that if his team can't face a copy editor, how could they face a world leader?

That's the second ad in a number of days. The other one was EVERBODY. Whose doing his ads. Todd Palin?

Chalk this one up to post-modernity?

"Whose doing his ads."

Perhaps it's done on porpoise? :)

Oh that's an exagerrarartion

This is probably what they have Bristol doing since she's not the campaign trail.

Witches no how to spel.

exaggerate.....

... for an excruciatingly awful attempt by McCain to be "cool" and "not all that hoary" by using 1337 ads or using text-message abbreviations.

"vote 4 me, plz, Obama n Biden h8 us."

They had ads in 1337?

For what, recruiting ads for the Hundred Year War?

Victory is around the corner!!!

Just react...don't think...just spew...
Now attach that process to a crisis...pretty damn scary...
And I'm not even an American, but I'm beside myself worrying until I see Obama elected...

I think you could have just gone ahead and called him President Camacho, Nicole. Mike Judge fans will get it, and for the McCain crowd, you can just tell them it's a spelling error.

By the way, did anyone catch this? (I know it's off topic, but it makes me so angry, I can't wait for an open thread.)

Trick or Treat!

Do you support Obama, little girl?

I think my mommy does.

No candy for you!!!!

It's the kind of pettiness only a Republican could conceive.

What if it's her mummy?

weirdo

Mòran taing.

Candy Nazi!

every night until thanksgiving

tp'd her entire house...shaving creamed her drive

and left the proverbial flaming bag of shit on her doorstep

Obama will "spread the wealth" (at least his supporters will!) :)

Teach the children well - Repubs are mean.

Given all the bombast from the base-right on not appreciating so much all them big-thinkin', elitist, edumacated types they feel they just couldn't hang out with and power down a pitcher or two of tap together, it wouldn't surprise me to find that these "typos" weren't really accidental at all.

"Shoot, my friends, the Maverck spells just as good as me. That makes him quantified to rool the world!"

After listening to some of his campaign people...I'm surprised we haven't seen more of these screw-ups.

The hits just keep coming from these assclowns. Bwa-ha-ha-ha!

Granted, I'm your typical San Francisco elitist, but will the average McCain/Palin supporter even notice or care? They seem to be talking to the low-information voters in the Real America after all.

Anybody see the recent Sarah Palin letter from the RNC? The first word of the letter, THE FIRST WORD, is spelled incorrectly! They don't know how to spell Wednesday! It's spelled Wendnesday!!! I kid you not! WTF, they still use Trash 80s???

Actually homeschooled children do much better than public schooled children. I have a friend whose daughter entered university at age 13 and was homeschooled. I think the problem is that Palin and her types were schooled in conservative christian schools.

This way McCain can claim he never accused Biden of exaggerating anything. He EXAGERRATED. Considering its a made up word, it'd be pretty hard to prove Biden didn't do it.

Plausible deniability.

Haven't I told you a hunnert-million times, check your dang spellin'!!!

No, that's how many times you told us not to "exagerrate".

Spelling only makes a difference if you know how to read.

...is are children learning?

"You betcha"

Final USAToday/Gallup: Obama 53%, McCain 42%

They should call this one early and half of America will be celebrating.

Nicole, you're talking about campaign workers who would have elitist issues with such highbrow shows like "Martha Speaks" and "Little Einsteins".

or "Yo Gabba Gabba"

The Ramones have risen from the dead, and volunteered as campaign workers?

Lies, Half Truths and Contradictions: Chronicle ''Hidden'' Audio on Obama

It's not true.

But the Drudge Report, the Republican National Committee and apparently even GOP VP candidate Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin fell for completely fabricated news from a shady website called Newsbusters today suggesting the San Francisco Chronicle has ''hidden'' audio with Sen. Barack Obama regarding his statements on coal.

''Barack Obama explained his plan to the San Francisco Chronicle this year,'' she told a rally in Ohio Sunday. ''He said that sure, if the industry wants to build coal-fired power plants, then they can go ahead and try, he says, but they can do it only in a way that will bankrupt the coal industry.''

She added, ''And you've got to listen to the tape.''

''Why is the audiotape just now surfacing?'' Palin asked the crowd, according to a report from CBS News. Someone in the crowd shouted, ''Liberal media!'

Let's be very clear: the Chronicle did not, and has never, hidden any interview, audio or video, of Obama from its readers.

What an embarresmant.

McCain-Failin. If they win, we're leavin'.

What's funny to me is this is how half the republican trolls spell here. Also, I used to belong to an archery-related web forum. I got in too many fights there over politics. The conservatives could barely write a sentence without a spelling error. Often the error was in the very concept we were debating (e.g. wellfair).

I had a debate about wellfair once. It was decided that wells were much too small a venue for any fair.

Ahmadinejad is not the relevant leader of Iran, the Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei is.

Can't spell. Can't get their facts right either.

If an Obama ad was under criticism for something like this, you'd point out just how petty it is, and rightfully so.

Jesus Christ, it's not like there's a lack of material to criticize McCain's campaign on.

I'd write it off to hastiness or tiredness and go about my day.

This is something like the sixth ad they've put out with spelling errors. That's a pattern of sloppiness and inattention to detail that I do think is noteworthy. These ads are supposed to be seen by many eyes before they're signed off on. Don't you think someone--anyone--on that campaign could be bothered to check for spelling?

We have spelling errors on this blog all the time, but we're a blog run out of a guy's home by a bunch of people who all have other jobs. We're not running for the highest damn office in the land.

I've made a bunch of allusions to the movie Idiocracy today. The McCain campaign embodies for me proof that we're heading down that path.

been posting on here ever since the blog started , im not a great speller and i dont correct anyone who mispells a word or hits a wrong key and screws up a word in thier posts ,in fact ive had a few lurkers from out there say the reason they decided to post on here was because they saw anyone could post and not be ashamed they couldnt write or spell as good as many posters who come here, all you do when you redicule others that have poor spelling abilitys is keep some posters who have an opinion staying in the shadows , the world belongs to all of us not just the well educated !

sure enough tyree, but this isn't about a blog, it's about a professionally [sic] run campaign for the highest office in the country and most powerful on earth.

would you be so similarly tolerant of your bank teller not caring to use a calculator, despite admitting that he didn't do arithmetic so well?

i guess its a matter of mistakes , i can even forgive joe biden talking about franklin d rooseveldt being on tv in 1929 talking about the depresion,

TV - a brand new invention - was indeed used in 1929. No one actually owned TV's at that time -- but the technology had been developed and and was being experimented with.

im aware that tv was invented on an experimental level, but it wasnt being used by the american public on any scale at all in 1929 and the second world war put tv on the back burner and was not avalible to the public untill around 49 or 1950, you missed my point , everyone makes mistakes,

shine thru your unique style! I'm a former proofreader and copy editor, and my angle today is that in informal writing or speaking, if I can understand what somebody's trying to say (and true, such "translating" can get it wrong), then I'm OK w/errors like the above. The problems in that ad are (1) it's not an INFORMAL situation, and (2) somebody was paid good money to write it, and correct spelling should've been part of the package. I expect that a lot of people never even noticed the misspelling.

The upshot is that the error is counterproductive to their message b/c we've focused on the error and not on the message. They lose!

Re-thug-lics -- the party of immature, voraciously rapacious, despotic, doughy white, cowardly, angry troglodytes, bigots, racists, perverts, xenophobes, pedophiles, murderers, war criminals, homophobes, misogynists, self-hating women, fetid wombs and consummate chronic liars.

And Spelling-bee losers.

Good lord, how great would it be to have a president who doesn't spurn literacy?!?

really bothered by incorrect spelling, though I don't usually say anything unless it's a total dufus anyway -- many people don't usually like it and think it's unimportant.

But sometimes it's so bad that I have to read something 2-3 times to understand what's being said. It is really annoying. I grew up an avid reader, and that's likely to keep one's spelling pretty clean. The advent of the internet with everybody typing and making mistakes certainly has its effects. Seeing mistakes endlessly eventually enters the brain and one can certainly make the same mistakes because they're learned. OTOH, typos are usually easily recognizable.

Anyway, as someone said above, maybe this is the McCain camp's reach-out to the ignorant, since they do it so frequently. Or maybe they're just ignorant themselves.

get good help these days. Perhaps that young girl with the B carved in her face with the proof-reader for the campaign. She seems to be gone.

Mebbe this is why she didn't have an A.

http://www.misspelled.com/common/e.htm

exagerate, exagerate, exagerate (correct it)

The misspelling was definitely done on purpose. Remember "Think Different"? Intentional mistakes grab our attention whether we know it or not. I would bet that most folks will not really notice the misspelling, but advertisers know ...

You may be write.

There is always a chance that the news will pick up the story and run the commercial nationally (for free).
