Sunday Morning Bobblehead Thread

Here it is, the somewhat anticlimactic morning after the historic vote on health care reform in the House of Representatives. I thought it would be nice to have a reminder of why we are fighting and why the fight continues.

This version of health care reform was never going to be the final product. Certainly, the inclusion of the Stupak amendment makes its current version unpalatable to me and others. But we must remember Lisa and Cathy and her son and stake out this new ground and then push for more and more, until we have truly universal health coverage and we catch up with the rest of the industrialized world.

Health care will be topic one with the bobbleheads. Joe Lieberman gets the attention he so whorishly craves, with an appearance on Fox News Sunday. The rest of the shows seem to take pains to offer up matched sets: DNC chair Tim Kaine with RNC chair Michael Steele on This Week, Governors Ed Rendell (D-PA) and Haley Barbour (R-MS) on Meet the Press. Astroturf King Dick Armey will be on Face the Nation, (note the description isn't his current gig with FreedomWorks, but as a former House leader...sneaky). New Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell gets dual exposure on Fox News Sunday and State of the Union. Think they'll mention his rather retro-notions on gender roles? Nah, I don't think so either. My favorite round table guest, Rachel Maddow, is back on Meet the Press. Let's see her show David Gregory for the chump he is.

ABC's "This Week" - Democratic National Chairman Tim Kaine and Republican National Chairman Michael Steele; Army chief of staff Gen. George Casey.

CBS' "Face the Nation" -Sen. Robert Menendez, D-N.J.; former House Majority Leader Dick Armey, R-Texas; Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Fla.

NBC's "Meet the Press" - Govs. Haley Barbour, R-Miss., and Ed Rendell, D-Pa.

NBC's "The Chris Matthew Show" - Panel: Kathleen Parker, Andrew Sullivan, John Heilemann, Savannah Guthrie. Topics: Election Fallout: How Will Democrats Both Stick with Obama and Move to the Center? The GOP's Strange Bedfellows: Do the Wingnuts Run the Show? Meter Questions: Will Tuesday's vote scare moderates on health care? YES: 1 NO: 11; Will Afghanistan define President Obama's legacy more than health care? YES: 6 No: 6.

CNN's "State of the Union" - Army chief of staff Casey; Virginia Gov.-elect Bob McDonnell.

CNN's "Fareed Zakaria GPS" - A star-studded panel of historians discusses Obama's first year in office and the political climate in America. Plus, as Hamid Karzai gets another term as President of Afghanistan, we get the view from across the border: Pakistan's former President Pervez Musharraf on Karzai, corruption, and the prospects for peace in Afghanistan.

CNN's "Amanpour" - Christiane talks to Iranian mastermind of 1979 US Embassy takeover, plus a hostage, and Pres. Carter's Iran point man.

"Fox News Sunday" - McDonnell; Sen. Joe Lieberman, Connecticut independent; Reps. Chris Van Hollen, D-Md., and Mike Pence, R-Ind.

So, what's catching your eye this morning?

incidents in the Ft Hood shooting. Hmmm.

Hasan was armed with two handguns, each with a 20-round clip.

The news has been reporting he fired "over 100 shots".

13 dead and 43 wounded. Not one stray bullet in Hasan's direction, yet he managed to hit 56% of the targets he aimed for while people are shooting at him? What's wrong with this picture?

"Because that's what you want in any school shooting: crossfire." - Bill Maher

something seems VERY wrong here. Unless the doctor spent a lot of his copious free-time on the range.

spray and pray , to dump and load a clip takes less than 2 seconds .

I guess we'll have to settle for the other has-been, Armey-Dick...

Nicole, do we share a birthday today? :)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!~

And many more

Hey, I got a health care bill for my birthday.

Not the size or color that I wanted, but at least I got what I asked for. :)

.

and thanks for the well wishes for mine last week.

I know you don't drink, but I guess you'll still have to drink a little Kool-Aid today. Just remember, like with any whine-tasting, spit, don't swallow...

I've always been more of a "Wyler's" fan. :)

Dear Nicole,

On FOX News Sunday, today, Gov.-elect Bob McDonnell of Virginia told Mike Wallace that he would like to end all state money to Planned Parenthood and work with the General Asssembly to shut it down for good...

I hope C&L gets that tape because this liar ran away from his social conservatism during the election and downplayed such positions....

This a fine example of how the Right-wing downplay their views until they get into office and then ram things down the people's throats who did not hear that in the campaign. The Republicans are masters of hiding their controversial views from public view until they get into office.

Happy Birthday Nicole!!! Its been nice arguing with you this past year! It's my mother's birthday today as well....Have a nice day Nicole!

My birthday was yesterday and one a year is quite enough...

But happy birthday to you too, my fellow Scorpio. <3

I think I found the counter to "tea baggers" . . .

I am a coffee grinder!

LOL...

there a rifle named the " coffee grinder " it was a 50 cal sharps .

As I walked to McDonalds to get my breakfast on a beautiful FL Sun morning, I thought to myself, "Yeah, I feel better than I did yesterday without the healthcare vote not yet done." Not over-joyed, but better.

As I waited for my McBreafast to get done, I noticed a rather large middle-aged guy sat alone about 15' from where I was, looking in my direction. I gave him the "heads-up", silent nod so common as greeting among guys you don't know. No response from him; oh well, I thought, no big deal.

They called my number, and as I came back toward him after getting my food, he snapped open his collapsible white-tipped cane, then very slowly tapped his way toward the restroom.

I thought about what benefits, if any, this man would get from this bill. And I felt grateful that for whatever its faults, I've probably got less to complain about than this man did.

I can't help but think of Dubya waving at Stevie Wonder. :)

And a better healthcare bill than under bush as well...

...

A good morning chuckle!

Paraphrasing CNN, post-HC vote:

"When the Berlin Wall came down, we made the mistake of thinking Socialism was defeated."

Asshat.

Sarah Palin's speeches were ready but never seen -- until now

[...]

here's what we did not hear Palin say in victory:

"It's been just 68 days since that afternoon in Dayton, Ohio, when Sen. McCain introduced me as his running mate. He is truly the maverick.

"My fellow Americans, tens of millions of you shared our convictions and gave us your votes. And I thank you for your confidence. We were facing tough odds and formidable opponents.

"It's not always easy in politics to see the best in our opponents. But we have seen the grace and skill of Barack Obama, and the grit and determination of Joe Biden. By his nomination and extraordinary campaign, Barack Obama has achieved a great thing, for himself and for our country, and for that, America will always honor him. I say God bless you, Sen. Obama, and your beautiful family."

there's NO WAY, she'd have pulled that off without a liberal peppering
of "you betcha". Also.

How family-friendly.

won't comment on the number.

On FnS, Pense says that "Democrats have not learned anything from August (the teabaggers) or last Tuesday... that the American people are tired of big government (blah blah blah)." Followed by "Democrats, as a Party, are on their way out."

Van Hollen points out that the two big House seats that were up for grabs both went to Democrats that voted Yes on the bill last night."

.

Unchallenged by Gregory.

We start a drive for "republicant" as in the party of no, no way and never.

If you don't like the other crap

Not in any sane world would I watch any of the Sunday blabfest shows.

And I don't.

segment is already out too, the Hoover Dam

http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/americanexperience/ho...

I'd rather watch on my 17" TV screen instead of my 11" monitor (with busted sound card).

lol

Yeah ff, you need sound to get the full effect, fer sure

Huh?

Not really surprised.

Lieberman is brought on to FnS as a Homeland Security Expert to discuss the Ft. Hood shooting.

To Joe, this was "clearly an act of terrorism", and that Hasan had become "a violent Muslim extremist" despite saying:

"We don't know enough yet... BUT... it was clearly an act of terrorism."

I'm definitely not defending Hasan, but there is much to suggest he was also the victim of frequent harassment for being a Muslim that may have helped push him to do what he did.

Barbour ignores the question, continues his train of thought! Gregory presses him again later, Barbour equivocates.

Main St" No shit Sherlock!

First I've heard of it, but Lieberman repeats a "rumor" that, as a psychiatrist, Hasan had a patient that killed an Army recruiter, and told him he "understood and was okay with it."

Sorry, but that sounds like RW cr@p to me.

troops in Afghanistan."

Sure Lucy...

Lieberman tells Wallace that "the Public option is unnecessary" and "was put in, I believe, by people who really just want to take over health insurance."

"If the public option is in there. I will not allow this bill to come to a final vote", citing the size of the deficit as the reason ("growing to over $20 Trillion").

Obama from Republican politicking."

Bingo!

or revolt if Stupak amendment is not stripped."

ya

really need to use spell check its " stoolpack " .

of the general public.

Nothing in this draft even begins to address the most serious abuses of the Med Mafia, Big Pharm, and The Insurance cartel come on people wake up!

The insurance industry would lose its exemption from federal antitrust restrictions on price fixing and market allocation. At its core, the measure would create a federally regulated marketplace where consumers could shop for coverage.

Guess it depends on ones definition of nothing.

Twice.

.

we have a "Historic" (Trumpets!) bill that requires people to purchase Health Insurance or otherwise become a Ward of the State.

Beautiful!

a year raise to you comply and see what happens.

:p

I just received an incentive from our government of thousands of dollars a year NOT to work.

At least, over the table.

Sorry but I do believe the bill is terrible. No middle ground on single payer. we probably have to resort to revolution to get it out of the corrupt hands of our political idiots.

selfish, egotistical, and drunk with power it's occurred to me, that nothing short of a French Revolution could clean things up.

US 'head there to cover the fall of Berlin Wall live. Hmmm...

:p

Didn't MTV break the story? I'm not even sure if the press realized it was important.

The CIA failed to predict it.

Like who China?

Mexico , Russia ,
shesse didnt ya get the memo

but hey we beat the Wing nuts last night man!

, oh its a new day , still time for the dems to roll over .

watching."

Asshat.

The incessant misrepresentations by Republicans this morning over what the health care bill does or will do is beyond offensive.

Barbour is on MtP claiming... as every Republican is... that Democrats will cut "Medicare" (not "Medicare Advantage") making themselves out to be the saviors of that popular government-run health care program.

PS Barbour: Just because you say it is "deeply unpopular" over and over again, won't make it true.

Boy, after skirting the issue twice, Barbour's weak defense of Palin as a leader in the GOP is quite amusing.

points out that it's not biased against 'thugs, but they just haven't offered anything newsworthy to really warrant their inclusion.

Kurtz, on the exit, "It's just my job to point out that there are two political parties."

What a p*ssy!

"Limbaugh's (going on Fux last week) was a big FU to the White House."

"What jumped out at me was that he said Foxholes."

LOL.

on this bill shouldn't they be stripped of their tax exempt status?

.. is a purely unilateral agreement; something the State may have agreed to, but the Church never has -- and likely never will.

so maybe you don't have to."

Fill in your own joke here. I've got to get to work.

Anyone else notice... frequently this morning but by no means new... that Republicans are all complaining how healthcare passed on a "strictly partisan" vote?

I watched the final two hours. 60+ Democrats voted for the Stupak amendment, and 37 voted against the final bill. But EVERY SINGLE Republican voted straight Party line (with only one exception on the final vote).

It's only "Bi-partisan" when Democrats vote with Republicans on a Republican bill.

In terms of redefining political language, "bipartisan" has become the new "liberal".

..but I'm a bit amused/perplexed by that one topic: "Topics: Election Fallout: How Will Democrats Both Stick with Obama and Move to the Center?"

It's absolutely crazy that the 'Center' is conceived as being some mythical point halfway between the average Republican position and the average Democratic position. This in spite of the fact that the R's have been moving steadily right for decades, and the D's have also been moving to the right in a vain attempt to occupy this notional center ground. It's like watching a tug of war between The Incredible Hulk and Betty Boop. Or as Bill Maher would have it, the Democrats have moved to the right, the Republicans have moved into a nuthouse.

The long-term result is that even the left is well to the right of any political philosophy the US has embraced in its entire history. Or as another comparison, they are also well to the right of pretty much any other democracy in the world.

Steele asked Kaine on TW about 10.2% unemployment: "Whose fault it that? Whose fault it that?"

How come when unemployment broke 10% under Reagan, it was "Carter's fault", but today, it's not Bush's but "Obama's fault"?

Steele is such an idiot. He trumpeted the governorships won by the reps, but remember Mr. You Da Man, those guvs don't vote in Congress.

The only thing worth watching on Sun. morning is Spongebob.

WTF??

Matalin is so crazy. I don't know how the gremlin man stands being married to her.

Maybe that gives him wood?

If so many people were bored with the subject and wanted to have a conversation with their friends maybe they would use the cell phones..

No wonder the democrats really do not give a d... how much they refuse to fulfill their campaign promises, it really does not make a d... to a lot of people..
