Vatican Rocked By Another Sex Scandal

Ironic that the same week that DC Catholic Charities opted to stop spousal coverage in response to legalized same sex marriages, the Vatican finds themselves answering for a gay scandal taking place right under their collective noses:

A police investigation into corruption at the Vatican has taken a twist with the discovery of an organised network of male prostitution. So far a senior aide to the Pope and a Vatican chorister have been removed from their posts over allegations of involvement in the homosexual prostitution ring.

The allegations were made public when Italian newspapers published transcripts of phone calls recorded by police. Police had been conducting an unrelated corruption investigation. Apparently the tapes record Angelo Balducci, a Gentleman of His Holiness, negotiating with Thomas Chinedu Ehiem, a 29-year-old Nigerian Vatican chorister, about men he wanted brought to him for sexual purposes.

Balducci held a high position within the Vatican and carried the coffin of Pope John Paul at his 2005 funeral. He has now lost his position as a Gentleman of the Holiness. The taped conversations include Balducci describing precise physical details of the men he desired.

Balducci was a member of one of the world's most exclusive fraternities – the Gentlemen of His Holiness, or Papal Gentlemen, the ceremonial ushers of the papal household.

The scandal is just the newest scandal in a seemingly never ending series of scandals involving the Catholic Church. There is no telling how extensive the prostitution ring is within the Vatican, or what, if any knowledge, Pope Benedict XVI had of the nefarious activities taking place within his household.

The scandal is yet another indication of the corruption and moral hypocrisy which surrounds the Pope, and permeates the Catholic Church.

Why is it that those so insistent on controlling and judging others' behaviors always seem to have the hardest time living up to their own standards?

I suspect a fair number of them are homosexual men who couldn't accept themselves, and so joined the church as a means of fighting their 'inner demons'.

basically a choice between pretending your not gay as long as you can and being a pillar of the community or being victimized by your friends and family.

Getting rid of religions, or at least holding them accountable for their actions/beliefs, would help to alleviate the bashing as there wouldn't be a large acceptable group promoting the hatred. Additionally, people would not join, become priests, in order to avoid victimization.

Religions are dysfunctional and do not dispense reality/truth.

nomoreclintonorbush's picture

You see how various religions are reacting to the Obama administration meeting with a secular/atheist group? Extremely reactionary accusing the secularists of hate and fear mongering. The same sh*t reactionary religious have been doing for hundreds of years. They start to feel threatened and they become violent, and increase their lying rhetoric.

And do not underestimate their power. If hell goes into a handbasket in this country: meteorite, massive climate change, or terrorist attack, you will see these people charge that it was God's will to punish us for accepting homosexuals and abortionists. If the damage in this country is severe enough, they will revert to witch trials and burning heretics. These people are demonic, fearful, angry, vicious people. The only things keeping them at bay is a reasonably prosperous economy and secular government.

glogrrl's picture

to be faithful to a law of chastity. The Catholic church should allow their priests to marry as the Episcopalians & the Lutherans do. Problem solved. If their homosexual desires continue, voila--they will have discovered that they are gay and should accept their sexual being.

It's the Catholic church that insists sexual orientation is a choice. Therefore, it makes sense that the church would be attractive to those believing they can be purged or absolved of the 'sin' of homosexuality, further complicated by the idea of celibacy.

Since, as a heterosexual male, I don't recall any formative moment where I made a choice to find women sexually attractive, then it seems illogical to assume that others are making this mysterious 'choice' towards preferring the same sex.

So I've met a lot of Catholics as far as I know none of them molested children. I had some close family friends that were obviously a lesbian couple their whole lives but everyone just pretended they were friends, whatever floats your boat. I also noticed early in my teens that the Catholic rule book was both absolute and easily maliable. Birth control didn't count. You should probably feel bad for not going to Mass but not really a big deal. Confession, you can pretty much put that off until you've done something really bad. I could never understand why anyone would want to be part of a club that made it impossible to follow their rules. It's hypocrisy from the start not to mention guilt by association on so many levels it's mind boggling. Everyone gets to be their own personal Elmer Gantry just shifting their guilt around until they feel better. Not to mention their retention rates are bolstered by the threat of unimaginable torture for eternity from their all loving god.

I think Calling yourself Catholic is like calling yourself a kkk member because they really have some good ideas and you feel you should support them except for hating blacks and jews.

pinkobait's picture

I was raised as a catholic too,and the operative word for me is "guilt".You learn guilt at an early age and it takes the rest of your life to slough it off.The Jews didn't quite corner the market in this regard.

although nominally. My dad was an atheist and my mom was very private about religion, so it was all stuff I learned mainly in school. Thus I was pretty fucking resentful of the whole thing - who the hell did these people think they were telling me what I did or didn't do was sinful?

The first indication I ever had of the sick perversity inherent in Catholicism was a catechism book I was given as a school text. It had the most gory, slavering description of the death-by-torture of Jesus that I've ever read. It was truly sick. And I was NINE when I was made to read this shit. Even at that young age, I knew something was very, very wrong with these people. A sane person simply does not sit around thinking about this stuff.

The Catholic church and in fact no theist religion, can shut their pie holes with respect to women's reproductive rights. That is the corner stone of the successful propagation of their perverted belief system: keeping woman ignorant and pregnant. That is how you keep an entire society poor, ignorant, and superstitious.

This is how the poor in all countries continue to give so much money to these organizations, and believe the trash they spew. It keeps them in their place, unquestioning the rules, popping out the babies so there are ever more mouths to feed in a never ending cycle.

Never ending UNTIL women are respected, and allowed to engage in what is their birthright. And at that point, suddenly we see increased prosperity, creativity, and intellectual capacity, and less mysticism and ridiculousness. This is exactly why the core ingredient to any totalitarian system is treating women like dirt. They are the lynchpin.

I find all religion dangerous, but having been raised Catholic I find it completely satanic and evil.

Homosexuals, officially are considered "more or less intrinsically evil". How does an all knowing, all powerful, all loving deity, create a person that is intrinsically evil and then blame the person?

This is a predatory and hateful organization. And consider that it is substantially move moderate, "liberal" if you will, in the U.S. than in poor countries where it proselytizes its disgusting beliefs onto hapless people, stealing their hard earned money under threats of eternal punishment.

"Extra Ecclesiam nulla salus" demands of all human beings that the only path to salvation (as if this is required in the first place) is through Jesus Christ and his church - i.e. the Catholic Church. You do not go to heaven if you are born a Jew and are a good Jew your whole life. You do not go to heaven if you are born a Methodist and are a good Methodist your whole life. It's a f'n cult.

And it plainly demonstrates that theistic religions are the most disgusting and dangerous inventions of man.

900 years of torturing and executing innocent human beings, as a matter of explicit policy, for lying about the divine origin and absolute truth of the Catholic Church.

My person favorite (of the moment), is that the church burned heretics for a very specific reason. They believe (still) that the buried dead will all be risen and made whole again at the time of the 2nd coming. But not if there isn't a body that was buried.

So heretics were politically assassinated in this life through state sponsored murder. And then they were burned to ashes in order to prevent them from having any role in the next life as well. A double execution in the eyes of the church.

It is a completely treacherous organization.

Logically, if you accept that god made everything and has a detailed plan mapped out for everyone, then every tyrant is doing God's will.

be catholic, when she felt her lapse and sinning was the reason her life had gone pear-shaped. I told her the truth, that i didn't believe in the shit, that ccd and mass were a time waste, and I got an EXTRA hour of one-on-one with fr. lesnik. He was an ok guy, nothing bad happened, except he kept trying to fucking brainwash me into believing the shit. I mean really, I was all "Can god make a rock so heavy that he cannot lift it?" and "How can god love someone and send them to hell?" He was all "Faith faith faith" and "free will" while coughing up big gobs of green shit. I mean the guy had the worst bronchitis for months on end. Gag making.

They STILL made me get baptised, against my will, even though I was 13. gad I hated that catholic shit. I felt it was more about the numbers and shit.

from 3rd grade on, I had a stumper for the priests.

1. Angels do not have free will, only man was 'blessed' to have such.
2. Without free will, how did Satan rebel?
3. How did Satan get other Angels to join him, since like the Morning Star, they also had no free will?
4. How does Satan rule in Hell with no free will, and how is it possible that you consider yourself to be a monotheist when you have on one hand the 'trinity' and on the other hand, the God of evil?

I never got a response, there was some dancing around the issue and misdirection, which I would have none of - I would let them know in no uncertain terms that I understood how they had just completely avoided the question.

"That doesn't answer my question." and getting back "Some questions have no answers," then me saying "Well you certainly seem to come up with some kind of answer for everything, whether it addresses the issue or not..."

yup

I got a lot of the same bs.

is all the great art it has inspired. I do love me some Michelangelo, Raphael, El Greco, Fra Angelico, etc. As well as all the glorious liturgical music, from plainsong all the way to Mozart. Some incredible human endeavors have come out of there.

But that's about it. Oh, and the stuff Jesus actually said himself (according to the accounts) was pretty good. But nobody pays attention to the hippie freak anymore.

You cannot demonstrate that these works could not or would not have been produced without Catholicism. Likewise, we will never know what art was not inspired or produced because of Catholicism.

How do you paint a picture of the Madonna and Child...without a Madonna and Child? How do you sculpt the Pieta without Mary and Jesus? How do you write a Requiem Mass when you have no Mass to write about?

You're making no sense at all. Look, dude, if you don't like the existence of religion, then just say so. But don't trot out these nonsensical arguments as if there were any intelligent thinking behind them.

Madonna and Child were basically Isis and Horus, the Pieta could be any sacrificed god-king, from Adonis to Attis to Tammuz to Marsyas to Heracles to Cuchulainn.

Music figured big with some of these religions too. Afterall the Greeks had a muse of Sacred Hymns, Polyhymnia.

Diabolus est Deus Inversus

were the problem when it comes to the Catholic Church for calling them out, and not the Catholic Church's actual conduct.

He pulled the "flawed human beings" card, which evidently only the RCC can use for themselves, and the people the church has judged and treated callously don't get any such defense.

So I'm not shocked at all that they have another scandal on their hands.

For years they moved guilty priest around, from parish-to-parish, who they knew were guilty of molesting young people. This very fitting that's it's come back to bite them right in their wheelhouse.

Well, Christanity is a pedophile dating service these days. This isn't at all surprising. The rape of children is a core Christian ideology.
