Israeli Troops March Into Gaza
By David Neiwert Saturday Jan 03, 2009 12:15pm
Looks like the ground war has begun:
GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip - Israeli ground forces crossed the Gaza border in an expansion of Israel's week-old offensive against Hamas, Israel's military confirmed Saturday.
Israeli TV channels broadcast images of troops marching into Gaza after nightfall. NBC News reported that Israeli troops were taking some fire as they moved forward.
Artillery units had joined Israel's Gaza offensive for the first time Saturday, while warplanes and gunboats pounded more than 40 Hamas targets and a mosque where 10 people were killed.
It's clear that international leadership, particularly from the United States, is required to help sort out this ugly mess. And it's similarly clear that none is forthcoming from the Bush Administration.
Fortunately, we're at 18 days and counting.

this can only serve to expand the brutality.
Israel must withdraw to the pre 1967 borders.
At work.
Makes ya' really proud, don't it?
Here's something interesting.
Here is an Orthodox Rabbi who is AGAINST the State of Israel:
http://www.salon.com/ent/feature/2009/01/03/y...
(P.S. I agree 100% with Alice X - Choms...)
This is today's top story on AlterNet, about the American roots of Hamas and how we contributed to the current situation: http://www.alternet.org/audits/116855/?page=e... Revealing. Sounds a bit like Afghanistan and the roots of Al Qaida.
but if you are talking neturei karta...you should research how the rest of the jewish world views those freaks
better yet...why not reincarnate hitler...send all the jews back to germany and poland and watch them get gassed?
why is israel the only country in the world that should be forced to return land in wars they did not start?
why not remove all the faux borders in the middle east created by the british?
If you require Hitler to make a point, the discussion thread is over.
I am surprised it only took, what 4 posts, to bring a veiled holocaust in order to justify Israel's current shenanigans... bravo!
Well said Tyler.
Israel is using up it's last chance to commit war crimes and get away with it. They are going to do as much harm as they can before inauguration day.
I'm almost as ashamed of Israel as I've been of us for the last 8 years.
Is Israel supposed to ignore the rockets landing in their cities? How long would the U.S. put up with it? I have sympathy for the Palestinians, but randomly launching rockets at civilians is not going to help their cause.
These are of course the citizens whom the Israeli's have kept in a virtual state of siege for many months. The Gaza strip is spoken of as "the worlds largest open air prison". I'd suggest reading the fine article that MaryK linked to just above here at 12:12. Learn who the real terrorists are before you start defending anyone.
I suppose two wars in the ME along with a crashing economy weren't enough for Bush to hand over to Obama. Why not add yet another? All this achieved by nearly eight years of ignorant Bush bliss.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year President-elect Obama. Your plate sure is full. I don't envy you and I sure pity the rest of us.
Here's the link:

I attended a protest in Chicago in front of the the Israeli consulate that was at least 5,000 strong.
feel better now???
5 years and you couldnt stop the war in iraq
keep protesting....it works great
So, what do you suggest then Joe?
He will hide behind the "We only have one president at a time" mantra.
Bush only has 16 days left on the clock. After 8 failed years, does anyone think he gives a damn?
Israel is smart: they know this is their window of opportunity.
FYI, this country DOES only have ONE President at a time.
Bush checked out months ago.
It's just a formality. Nice try, though.
Sorry, Bush IS President, and since he seems to be okay with not doing his job, LEADING, he should have been FIRED quite some time ago. But he hasn't has he? So it's still his GD job.
Next you'll be posting Bush actually won the 2000 election.
>>>Shrugs<<<
Like it or not, whether he won, or stole it, which I believe he is, along with Ford, the 2 un-elected Presidents ofthe US, he IS the one in the White House as President or at least the puppet of Cheney. What part about that do you NOT understand? As far as everyone's concerned, Bush is the President. Maybe HE should do his damn job. And maybe you need to face reality sometime and stop throwing your totally inaccurate and false assumptions on others. Of course you know what happens when YOU assume, ass.
Under the Constitution of the United States, George W. Bush is President until Barack Obama takes the oath of office at 1200hrs on 20 JAN 09. This is the law, and right now Obama has no authority, no power, and receives briefings only to help with an orderly transfer of power.
Bush did win the 2000 election. It was questionable, but when the electoral college voted, he had the votes. Deal with it.
TauCeti
What you are ignoring is that Obama has had no hesitation in commenting upon the economic crisis and upon the situation in South Ossetia. Yet he has remained absolutely mute regarding the slaughter of innocent Palestinians by Israeli missiles and bombs. It should be obvious that the Palestinians realize that there will be little or no hope forthcoming from the [alleged] agent of hope.
http://nader.org/index.php?/archives/2092-Let...
Whether we like Nader or not, this letter is spot on.
Of course, the traitor who gave us the Bush presidency does not allow comments on his Jew hating rant.
Who gave BUSH the presidency was the Gang of crooks he had in Florida and Ohio (Jeb Bush Etc), IT Guru Mike Connell (Just Fried in a Plane Crash), Karl Rove, The corporate Media, the supreme court etc.
Nader is not a traitor. He has its own agenda far Diferent from the Neo-Liberal one.
People like you consider any critic against Israel as anti-Semitic.
I like jews, but the IMPERIAL agenda of the ZIONISTS in the Middle East is a shame for the humanity.
he may know a thing or two about the area.
In any case, it must be rather convenient for die hard dems to blame and old fool for their own incompetence, eh?
What a pathetic bunch...
your ignorance is appaulling but
for the reichwingnuttia, what do you expect?
you go to israel and put your sorry ass on the line..
or i forgot the gop does not fight the wars they
start, they just bitch and hide.
What the fuck are you talking about? What the hell does that have to do with anything I've said, and I am neither a wingnut nor right wing in any sense, asswipe.
I think dadams was referring to christopher di...
Appreciate the correction....Sorry, dadams if I hurled at you. These indentions get really snarky in a long drawn out conversation.
If he were more active, they would criticize that too.
Impeachment, anyone? Oh wait, the DNC hasn't grown a spine yet.
it is just that their interests are not the same as ours. The sooner some people realize that, the sooner we will start to effect change in this country of ours.
The Dems sure came together for the Wallstreet bailout, but they left Kucinich alone when he tried to do the right thing.
Once again, spot on Tyler.
what the hell does the DNC have to do with impeachment ????
and legally, Obama has no authority to be making national policy until he is sworn into office. Making public statements now, when he has no way to follow through on any cease-fire ideas, threats, etc., would surely place him in a very precarious position.
Bush IS the president of the US, like it or not, and he seems to think it's okay for the Zionists to bomb the crap out of relatively defenseless people. He's always been a coward - and happy to let others do his dirty work for him.
That believes that Jews should stand back and accept attacks on relatively defenseless civilians in the South of Israel.
Relatively defenseless? Gosh, 4 Israelis have died, let's launch an attack on the people shooting those overgrown firecrackers and kill a few thousand of them shall we. After all they're only Palestinians, so of course they're subhuman scum, fit only for slavery and death.
They should stand back and return to the 67's borders as the UN ask them many times in many years .
Amitola
I suggest that you read my comment at 14:59 to discover why your statement is incorrect. As I had mentioned, Obama had no hesitation in commenting upon other events such as the economic crisis and supporting the Georgians against the Russians while remaining silent at the slaughter of innocent Palestinians. Unfortunately, this should not come as a surprise since Obama has already groveled at the feet of AIPAC while showing almost no concern, if any, for the plight of the citizens of Gaza.
I suggest you consider the timing of those previous crises.
When Russia invaded Georgia (Aug 8) and then when the Congress was first handling the economic/bank meltdown (beginning in early October) whatever comments Obama made were as a sitting US Senator, representing the people of IL; he had not yet been elected president.
Any comments he might make now as President-elect, could be misconstrued, as he has not yet assumed the authority of that office to speak for our nation. I believe he is correct not to comment, as he has no power to act. I doubt it's because he likes to see Israelis kill Palestinians, as I think you are implying.
Amitola
I suggest that you do a little research on the person whom you hold so dear. Every foreign policy analyst that is close to Obama is favorable to Israel such as Warren Christopher, Anthony Lake, Madeline Albright and the infamous Dennis Ross who, in an interview with the Israeli newspaper Haaretz, said that Obama believes that "whatever threatens Israel also happens to threaten the United States."
You attempt to justify Obama's silence be saying that any comments that Obama would make might somehow be "misconstrued." By not condemning Israels's slaughter of the Palestinians, he sends a strong message that his unwillingness to criticize Israel means that he is in tacit agreement with the militant actions of Israel. It also means that the [alleged] agent of hope is offering no hope at all to the suffering and misery that has been inflicted upon the Palestinians by the Israelis.
For many years Israel has erected barbed wire fences around Gaza. Israel has cut off food to Gaza. Israel has cut off water to the citizens of Gaza. Israel has cut off electricity to Gaza. Israel has barred medical supplies from being sent to Gaza. Obama could have spoken out against these atrocities when he was senator but given his allegiance to Israel and AIPAC it is probably not surprising that he has not done so.
You claim that no criticism of Obama should be allowed untilhe is officially sworn into office. This may come as a shock to you but since Obama has already filled all his major cabinet positions, one finds that there is not one, repeat, NOT ONE, genuine anti-war voice that he has picked to serve in his cabinet. Taking that news into account, it certainly does not bode well for the Iraqis, Afghans and Palestinians who had hoped that Obama might actually become less militant and more peaceful than the previous administration. Given Obama's previous statements and cabinet choices, that would seem to be a forlorn hope indeed.
Sorry you wasted so much time rebuking me - I was not necessarily defending Obama, actually just the idea that as the "not yet sworn-in president-elect" he has no business commenting. We have a President - I believe his name is Bush. I don't hold either of them dear, dear.
Lovely chatting, though.
We better hope Bush stays out of it. Things are bad enough as it is.
and no support. Ah, we can wish...
As they say. I wish, too, that all the chickenhawks - Bush, Cheney, Kristol, Lieberman, Palin, et al - could be exposed to the business end of the wars they started preciptated, and supported.
ever since the Obama campaign and millions of regular Americans managed to defeat the propaganda campaign orchestrated by neocons and mainstream media... and ever since we witnessed the historic election of a charismatic black man unbeholden to corporate interests, and the defeat of yet another grumpy white man completely beholden to corporate interests...
well, I've been waiting for the other shoe to drop, so to speak.
so - I've heard rumors that Iran is going to amass troops to aid Palestinian civilians. if Israel "accidentally" shoots any Iranians, or Iranians "accidentally" shoot any Israelis - I mean, is there any way this can prevent Obama from taking his oath, and his office, on January 20th?
I really doubt it, it's a done deal, and tgo prevent it would cause wide disruption within the US. If Bush and ilk were going to do this and declare a "national emergency", it would have had to been before the elections.
No. We had an orderly election in 1944, and if FDR had lost Thomas E. Dewey would have become President on 20 JAN 45. We've had Presidents sworn in on airplanes and far from Washington. There is no mechanism for extending a term. Even at worst, Obama would be sworn in in private, with just a few witnesses and probably a media crew or three to document the event.
It can be done; doesn't require crowds, preachers, or balls (inauguration, I mean, of course.)
Good excuse for oil to go up now also
Israel and Gaza I don't think export a lot of oil. The problem may arise if the conflagration spreads, or Arabic sympathizers to Gaza find the discipline and cohesion to raise and keep raised prices in retaliation.
Speculation, my friend
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OPEC#The_oil_weapon
I suspect we will see this happen in days.
All part of the Bushco/neocon/oil companies burnt bridge exit strategy.
The timing of these actions seem like a glaringly large part of the equation. Upcoming elections in Israel, Obama not yet inaugurated. Time to get in some lethal licks before "change" comes to town.
ohkay,
remember the blockade of Gaza strip began during the ceasefire last fall.
on November 4, to be precise. Just in time to make sure US media had all the opportunity and free time to cover it as much as they'd like.
Oh, wait....
To ohkay @ 11:31
You're being snarky, right?
Obama, Biden, Hillary Clinton, Rahm Emmanuel are all practically dual U.S./Israeli citizens!!!
There will be zero change when it comes to Israel.
Things may even get WORSE!
Obama/Biden and Clinton as Secretary of State may encourage Israel to finish the job and take ALL of the Palestinian territories....what's left of them:
http://whatreallyhappened.com/WRHARTICLES/map...
i don't expect obama to treat israel any differently than bush has.
i support suspension of all military aid to israel.
well barky wants to continue the BushCo/PNAC plans of hypermilitarizing space/NASA.
to counter the ChiComs.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/bloomberg/20090102/pl...
not to mention Barack O'Biden groveling for an AIPAC pat on the head.
Obama following in st. ronnie's footsteps.
Cut off all scientific and technological research that has held this country up while the Christian right eliminated science in the schools.
Fine with me.
I'd prefer Israel, its spy networks, and the Dancing Israeli's stay out of the US.
I wasn't aware of this until I got piled on at a forum I'd been going to for a really long time. Their defense of Israel's right to do anything it wanted to had the passion of the anti-abortion people from the Right. It was so extreme that I'm not going back to the forum, and started hanging out at democraticunderground.
I've been wondering about the price of oil since Israel/Gasa started, but methinks more influential in any spike will be Russia cutting off the Ukraine. Apparently the latter powers much of Western Europe including, I think, Great Britain. So that means more international bids for the same oil we buy.
As for Obama, the most likely result will be another president who ran and won on a domestic items agenda being sucked up into the vortex of another international maelstrom.
Wasn't it natural gas that Russia cut off?
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/78068...
That sounds right, they were talking about Ukraine's electricity generating capacity.
im sorry but maybe im missing something. why is it that everyone keeps talking about bush leaving? why is the united states the only country in the world who can do something about this? or seems to even care one way or the other?
America and Germany are the primary sponsors of the modern Israeli state.
But perhaps the UN could step in, but they generally wait until the violence settles and try to act as peacekeepers, not peacemakers.
Yes, Israel is mostly the United States' baby. Talk about past mistakes biting you in the ass. Helping Israelis to form their own state was commendable, but they have been suckling at the American teat for sixty years now. They hold a standing and very large spot in our fiscal budget, mostly military aid...imagine that. I think it's getting time to cut the flow drastically. We give them arms and money then they use it to get US into more trouble. That's why it's always up to the U.S. to calm their temper tantrums.
I know what annoys me is whenever the U.S. debates about cutting back on Israeli aid, not cutting off just cutting back, Israeli officials make it sound like WE're goose-stepping them into the ovens.
Their ruling elite are batshit insane religious whackos and they possess nuclear weapons, that gives them a big 'terror' bargaining point.
Its one crazy fcuked up world we live in.
.
Drop a nuke on Gaza and most of Israel is contaminated with fallout.
The nukes are bargaining for the countries to the north (Syria, Lebanon), south (Saudi Arabia, Yemen and all the little emirates and kingdoms) and east(Iraq, Iran, Jordan- maybe...and maybe even Pakistan).
Themselves!
They supported the creation of Hamas in order to counter Fatah who were to hard to work with.
yeah, and you don't suppose that Israel had any opportunities to infiltrate the terrorist organizations they were supporting?
Whom does the feeble rocket attacks benefit? Hamas/Gaza? or the Israeli's?
Who the hell would know the difference !
I find it suspicious that suddenly that Hamas has (some) new super rockets that fly much further and accurately than the old ones.
And during a blockade too.
Fire them before the launch sites get overrun. It's not like these are amazing wonder weapons, simple battlefield missiles with a range of about 30-45 miles.
David Neiwert: "Fortunately, we're at 18 days and counting."
1) Thank you for posting something about the Israeli attack on Gaza.
2) "Fortunately, we're at 18 days and counting." I assume you're referring to the US Inauguration Day when Obama officially becomes US President and can then break his silence and... do what?
That's the question, isn't it?
Israel choose the US interregnum to launch its invasion of Gaza because it calculated correctly that neither Bush nor the Democratic leadership on the Hill would lift a metaphorical finger to stop its aggression.
Will Obama as the next US emperor do anything effective to fundamentally change the imperial world order? I doubt it. I hope Obama proves me wrong. But I doubt he will.
I hope Obama is something other than just another savage mule.
The timing of all this reminds me of the second US attack on the Iraqi city of Fallujah. Why did the US military decide that six days after the 2004 US presidential election was the best time to initiate their attack that destroyed 80% of that city? Could it have been cynical and obscene political calculation from the White House? Could be.
So here we sit watching another obscenity unfold enabled by US arms and foreign policy. "Fortunately" just 18 more days of obscene slaughter to watch while the "opposition party" in my government silently watches.
This makes me sick to my stomach.
It's not so much BO as HRC who needs to step up as Secretary of State. I hope she's putting in time with Condi already.
israel is a terriorist nation
that bush/cheney support.
bush/cheney should go to Gaza and
stand in front of the incoming troops
from israel and beg for their own lives
like the whole nation of Gaza is doing.
maybe they will be shown the same grace
that poor young peace corp girl was
shown as the israelis ran over her.
fuck bush/cheney and the entire bush
administration. disgraceful bastards.
israel is a terriorist nation
OK, how many Israelis have strapped bombs to themselves and blown themselves up on crowded Palestinian buses or in Gaza pizza parlors?
How many airliners have been hijacked by Jewish zealots?
How many car bombs have been left by Jewish groups in Palestinian marketplaces?
You don't get it do you?
I'll make this simple that your shriveled little brain can comprehend.
THE ISRAELIS DON'T HAVE TO STRAP BOMBS TO THEMSELVES. INSTEAD, THEY CAN USE JETS, BULLDOSERS, TANKS, MISSILES, BUNKERBUSTERS, ETC... DO YOU UNDERSTAND NOW???
He won't get it.
He thinks the Palestians/Gazan's should just march down with shovels in hand, dig out a nice long trench, line up, and wait for the hail of lead.
But they target military sites not civilians
Unfortunately, just because one doesn't declare war on the citizenry, does not mean innocent civilians don't get killed.
That's why war should be avoided as much as possible.
But that's what passes for leadership now days.
Like Uther Pendragon said to Merlin in the movie Excalibur, "Talk! Talk is for lovers, bring me the sword!"
Besides which Tau Ceti seems to be parsing the term terrorism by tactics used. One can be terrorized by a mudslide, but a mudslide isn't a terrorist.
Probably a more accurate term than to call Israel a terrorist state, is to call them a rogue state. The problem is America's in no position to do so thanks to booshco.
the US has been a terrorist/rogue state before BushCo took over the reins.
This is not a uniquely Republican/Neocon position, for the Military Industrial Complex plays its hands with both Republican and Democrat cards.
You're blurring the distinction of too many terms. To all intents and purposes the effect they cause may be similar, but they are not the same in cause. This is an example for the need for Sufficient Reason or the Causal doctrine.
But look at it this way, if I told someone something bad would happen to him if he didn't fork over his cash I could be charged with robbery. But when a government does it it's called taxation. But in either case they other guy's pockets are emptied.
A child is going to suffer if his father or other primary provider is killed, regardless if the act is random, or provoked because the father's a killer himself being killed by police while resisting arrest.
The Military-Industrial complex has to be coupled together with what's called the Iron Triumverate, which is the same complex with the addition of governments, but local and federal. It has more to do with the awarding of contracts to fabricate armaments than it does necessarily using them. In times of war, manufactuers will leap at a chance for these contracts, but because of the nature of the Triumverate, you can't necessarily blame them for the hositilities, or even either of the other two.
In some ways, it's part of the so called "Fog of War."
owe israel a debt of gratitude.
Anytime a Palestinian spokesperson is booked on CNN, the anchor won't STFU and let them speak. Talk about pro-Israel bias.
Many of the Jews don't support the Zionists who are the neocons of Israel.
http://www.consortiumnews.com/2009/010209.html
So as with any ruling class they do as they want.
Just like we have been controlled for the last 8 years. The biggest difference is the MSM here.
How many USAmericans supported the support of Osama's Mujahedeen or Saddam?
They sure as heck did not complain about cheap gas and when the atrocities popped up, everyone claimed innocence.
Happend in the US, happend in Germany and will happen in Israel.
Actually, on BBC the reporters claim that as long as no Israeli solider dies, everything is fine.
The Soviet Union was our ally in WWII. That changed the moment Japan surrendered. We supported Muslim extremists in Afghanistan because they were bedeviling the Soviets. Now, we both work to contain them. Saddam opposed Ayatollah Khomeini, which made him a near-hero.. until he fired on the USS Stark. Tomorrow there will be another shift, and old enemies will be new friends.
The USS Stark incident was not the reason for the split with Saddam.
After Saddam had invaded Kuwait and the US initially had no problem with it. As long as the oil keeps flowing.
Then, for some reason, there was a shift in the US position and they went from 'accepting' it to being against it.
I presume they thought it might be a good chance to not only get rid of Saddam and replace him with a new puppet, but also be able to get a firmer grasp on the Middle East.
Up until the '91 war, Saudi Arabia did not allow foreign troops on their land. So the US made up a threat against SA by Iraq (complete with fake pictures and all (sound familiar?)) and so SA allowed in foreign troops.
Which brings us to a greater US goal: Secure oil from SA
After the '70 oil problem the US' goal was to not allow such a thing to happen again and in order to do so they would need to somehow put more pressure on SA.
What better way then to put yourself in country as the protectorate of it?
If the oligarchy of SA does not assure the oil supplies, you can convince them otherwise.
@Khomeini:
And the reason why Iran was our 'enemy' is because the US gov helped the UK gov replace the democratically elected President with a Dictator.
And all because the Iranians took back their oil industry and kicked out western governments.
And people wonder why Iran does not trust us or believe in democracy.
@Topic:
And the irony of it all... regardless if the country was good or bad, we happily traded with them.
Well except Cuba, because they are communist.. unlike China.
They can do whatever they want with the people or their next door neighbour, as long as we come out on top.
And when the victims finally realize that we directly supported the people that caused their suffering and are justly pi$$ed, we have the gull to act surprised and know of no evil.
I must say, we must really be self-delusional to not see we are up to our necks in BS.
This whole thing seems to be following the same script of the last umpteen Israeli-Arabs clashes. One definition of insanity is "continuing to do the same thing and expecting the outcome to change" and that seems to fit all parties involved in this nightmare.
...all of the "scripts" you refer to are written and orchestrated around the world by the people who control the money. (the ones who always get richer while sending the sons and daughters or regular folks die in useless wars)....
obama, "I will bring to the White House an unshakeable commitment to Israel's security. That starts with ensuring Israel's qualitative military advantage. ...I will ensure Israel can defend itself from any threat, from Gaza to Tehran. ..."
i must have missed the vote that made israel the 51st state. nothing is going to change.
It was a 51st state speech, seems to be the required/unavoidable thing for any US politician to say/do if they want to be elected.
It's the other way around...The US is Israel's favorite client state. Like a rich patsy who can always be counted on to do their bidding.
Obama is a Council of Foreign Relations true believer. The CFR intends that the Arab states remain permanently weak, or better, subjugated. Any crime or injustice committed towards assuring that end is acceptable to them. Israel is the CFR's proxy for the region. The only thing Obama is going to do is deploy intricate and plausible excuses, while assuring that things continue per the CFR desires and dictates.
This thing has been brewing since Israel was founded. Am I supposed to be stunned at anyone's inability to quell this holy war nonsense.
If we could somehow erase the notion of the omnipotent, omniscient, ever-present, God from the minds of men, maybe we'd have a chance.
And, speaking of that - where the hell is God???? Why is God allowing the Palestinians (this time) to be slaughtered without intervening?
Oh, that's right, I forgot about free will......
Who does God identify as his chosen people?
If you believe that sort of thing, that is.
Conveniently enough, God's chosen people are whoever wins the war.
To the victor belong the spoils, the history books and the blessings of invisible sky genies.
A few days ago I was searching YouTube for the Warsaw Concerto, one of my mother's favorites. The search yielded several documentaries of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising. I couldn't help but notice the striking similarities between the Warsaw Jew's valiant, futile stand against superior Nazi forces and the presentday Gaza Palestinian's valiant stand against superior Zionist power.
YouTube: Warsaw Ghetto Uprising
You put the wrong address in your link.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VZtc5vSoZtc
Wouldn't be surprised if Youtube or its ADL appointed censors remove temporarily the Warsaw Ghetto videos.
"The Warsaw Ghetto was established by the German Governor-General Hans Frank on October 16, 1940. At this time, the population of the Ghetto was estimated to be 440,000 people, about 37% of the population of Warsaw. However, the size of the Ghetto was about 4.5% of the size of Warsaw. Nazis then closed off the Warsaw Ghetto from the outside world on November 16, 1940, building a wall with armed guards."
It's important this information keeps getting out there
Thanks for spotting my error.
Corrected Link:
YouTube: Warsaw Ghetto Uprising
Don't remember when exactly, but there was an Israeli politician that said that looking at footage of the Palestinians reminded him of pictures his grandmother (I think) of the Warsaw Ghetto. He was ostracized by the powers that be then gave an "apology" and I don't know what happened to him after that.
I seem to remember it was an Israeli politician, but it seems that's not the case
http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2003/jun/1...
Interesting article nonetheless as it was published around the beginning of the ghettoization of Gaza.
Glenn Greenwald: More Oddities in The US "Debate" Over Israel/Gaza
More at link.
Why haven't all the Arab nations rushed to Hamas' defense?
This might be the watershed that brings the whole Arab world together against Israel. And a significant part of the rest of the world, for that matter.
That is going to make most Arab countries politicians think twice.
Plus theres the old cliche of 'give x enough rope...'
American Republicans/neocons don't have a monopoly on stupidity.
Israel is putting itself beyond the pale, possibly once and for all time. They could end up international pariahs like apartheid South Africa did.
Doubtful.
Israel and its bootlickers will just play the Anti-Semitism and Holocaust cards until the sufficient guilt levels are achieved.
That is what has worked so far.
Not to mention the powerful influences the Zionist regime has in important foreign capitals.
The rest of the world has moved on, and Israel has stayed rooted to the violent, expansionist, racist philosophies it had when Zionists began running off Palestinians in the 1930's. It's not going to be a trump card any more -- the suits have changed since those days.
Maybe Oprah needs to do a book of the month on this.
Oops.
And you won't be happy until Hamas, Hezbollah and Iran finish Hitler's job, will you?
apply Godwin's Law of Argument.
Nobody supplies weapons to the Palestinians or any other Arab country. (The Palestinians are no Arabs) If they would have the proper equipment to fight, they wouldn't be settng themselves up as suicidal humans bombs. If the Iranians are supplying the Palestinians, their suplies are then pretty sorry. This is indeed a typical asymetric confrontation.
...If Egypt got drug into this.
Russia would rush to Hamas' defense.
That would cut Israel's nose off.
Just like Saakashvili's nose got cut off when he invaded South Ossetia.
The U.N. Security Council has tried to stop this but it has been vetoed by the U.S.....as usual.
Every time the Arab nations have gone to war against Israel they've lost, badly. Was it in '73 that Egypt actually faced the possibility of an Israeli advance on Cairo? They've all made peace, or a close enough equivalent, and don't want to get involved. I'm hearing from friends on the Sinai UN force that Egypt is moving troops to close the Gaza border crossing. They don't want them either.
It makes sense for the Arab States to ignore this little Israeli Incursion into the Gaza. The Iraq War is coming to a end soon. Where do you think all of those crazy Jihadists are going to go? I think the last thing that the Arab Nations want is for all those rabid revolutionaries to come home. No... the Arab Nations see this as a gift from Allah. Israel, for whatever reason, has decided to offer a new home to all the would be revolutionaries of the Middle East.
and Israel secures the rocket launching sites, it will be Hillary's turn at a peace deal.
...and Israel secures the fireworks launching area?
If you think a missile with a 15kg warhead surrounded by 2,440 fragment sections with a range of 15km is a "firework."
I will honestly make you a deal. You and I will get together, and I will stand five meters from any firework of your choice. You stand the same distance from a 9M28F warhead.
Willing to do that?
She will get her chance at running up a beach under machine gun fire,
It will be MOHAA all over again.

.
Peace deal?
You mean lifetime submission pact right? the surrendering of off-shore natural gas rights pact right?
NPR's very senior news analist (sic) Daniel Schorr on this morning's Weekend Edition Saturday actually said this to explain Israel's attack on Gaza....
Shapiro: "What do you see as being at the root of this conflict?"
Schorr: "Oh I think at the root of this conflict is the influence of Iran..."
http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=98977370
NPR's Daniel Schorr went to draw more crayon cartoon pictures of the conflict for his "intelligent" US audience:
Schorr: "Just as the Hezbollah represented Iran in Lebanon, so I think they [I think Schorr means Iran here] are the ones who are sending these rockets to be used by the Hamas. It is a proxie war with Iran that's being fought through other countries."
Schorr: "It's a very dark and muddy view from here."
Yes indeed, Mr. Schorr, your view is very dark and very muddy. Hamas is getting its homemade rockets from Iran? Hamas is getting gipped big time.
With savage "liberals" like Mr. Schorr on hand, who will miss or need Neocons like John Bolton to justify the US empire after January 20?
I shouldn't be by this time, I was still stunned by the Neocon propaganda flowing from NPR this morning.
Well, we here all know that was never true. I still listen to NPR but I measure my response by the fact that they've become a weakened journalistic institution thanks to almost thirty years of Republican policy destroying public institutions. They're still far and away above CNN and their ilk, generally.
...and the NPR host just lapped it up and said, "Gee, thanks, Mr. Schorr!"
Are the Israelist getting ready to inflict to the Palestinias what the Roman Empire under Titus did to them in 70 A.D. I hope they think over what they're doing. It might back fire.
Hmmmmm....so Gaza is Israels' Colosseum? Interesting. Fish in a barrel.
The world didn't have modern journalism, the internet or the International Criminal Court back in the days of the Roman Empire. There will be consequences for Israel for committing these crimes.
What's that?
Something that's mythical here, but actually still exists in Europe and elsewhere.
If theres anything guaranteed in this life its taxes death and people seeking revenge for atrocities committed to their families.
The Israelis are engaged in war crimes ... and crimes against humanity ... there is no grey area here ... they are using propaganda "we have the right to defend ourselves" to engage in massacring the Palestinians and destroying their infrastructure.
This latest blood bath campaign sanctioned by the corrupt rogue US government will expose both as international tyrants and war criminals.
EXAMPLE: A Palestine throws a small missile (fire cracker) over the wall to protest their encampment and abuse suffered at the hands of the Israeli rogue government ... the explosive finds the hand of a Jew and blows the thumb off ....
Then the Jews respond by splattering anyone and everyone and their children's blood all over the place leaving them as roadkill and moving on to kill and splatter more and more human beings until they satisfy their blood lust and revenge for having been slaughtered themselves in the past.
How would you react to having your thumb blown off by someone who has pledged to kill you, your family, your neighbors, and everyone in your nation for the crime of being born there?
How many fingers are you willing to give up? When you get told that two of your kids were with friends at the mall, and a suicide bomber hit the pizza place they were eating at, will you just smile and say "Oh, we so deserved that!"
What does it take to make you say "enough!"
"What does it take to make you say "enough!""?
Read my reply to your above post...
find: "Re: Israeli Troops March Into Gaza"
That maybe the problem is that the Israeli kids are playing at the mall and the shoeless Palestinian kids down the street are digging for scraps of food out of a dumpster.
Nah... couldn't have anything to do with that now could it.
"For the crime of being born there?"
Not exactly:
They do it :
For the crime committed by the IMPERIAL ZIONIST STATE of occupacion of the palestinian land.
For the crime of no returning to the 67's borders as UN DEMANDS for MANY YEARS.
And because they don't have SUPER WAR MACHINEY you have to fight your ARMY FACE TO FACE!
OOOOPS!
Sadly this is beginning to remind me of something the US was involved in and the infamous term, "Shock and Awe", comes to my mind.
It is agony to see Israel constantly committing crimes and the mainstream media abusing the American people and helping the crimes to continue. PLEASE pass it on to others, I want to get the video into at least the top 100 most viewed today. SEE VIDEO OF RICHARD FALK TALKING ABOUT ISRAEL. ALSO, I invite everyone to subscribe to my channel because this is a way we can raise awareness, there is strength in numbers.
