Caroline Kennedy officially out of the running for NY Senate seat
Much has been written on both the left and right about the possibility of Caroline Kennedy being appointed to fill Hillary Clinton's vacant Senate seat. Well, no longer, as Kennedy has now officially withdrawn her name from consideration.
AP:
Caroline Kennedy withdrew from consideration for the U.S. Senate seat once held by her slain uncle, Bobby Kennedy, after a night of turmoil and uncertainty over her intentions.
"I informed Governor Paterson today that for personal reasons I am withdrawing my name from consideration for the United States Senate," she said in a one-sentence statement released after midnight. Her spokesman, Stefan Friedman, wouldn't comment further.

she should spend a few years doing some community organizing and then run for the seat next time around. I hear that's a good way to get started in politics.
I think I'm turning Japanese, I think I'm turning Japanese, I really think so.....
She can run a number of businesses into the ground, using her family fortune to prop them up long enough to make sure they don't fail until after you leave, and stockpile the election center with other members of her family.
I heard that's a good way to get into politics too.
I thinks it's for the best really...She's nice, sure, but I'm not convinced she would have made a good senator...she's just too mild mannered.
I agree. And particularly after listening to Rep Peter King's self-serving reaction. What a stereotypical New York ugly American! He needs more exposure so he can be exposed.

The Senate tends to be well-mannered, "My esteemed opponent" etc., when speaking of your opposition.
But the runs can undoubtedly be brutal.
Diabolus est Deus Inversus
maybe "mild mannered" wasn't exactly the right expression...
How about, "she just doesn't have the cutthroat mentality necessary to be a US Senator."?
Better?
For the election yes.
To hold the office a high level of tolerance for frusteration and obstruction.

Well I should, I got more bugs in my system now than Frankenstein's critter.
Now I have to worry about losing my feet.

Good, now maybe she can get a real job or try getting elected to an office rather than be rewarded for some belief that America embraces hereditary rule.
Who does she think she is? A Bush?
BTW, if this were handled the Chicago way they would have given the seat to Chelsea a couple of weeks ago.
I think I'm turning Japanese, I think I'm turning Japanese, I really think so.....
Even if it were handled the "Chicago way", they'd have troubles seating Chelsea ... right now she's 14 months too young, she won't be 30 years old until Feb 2010.

When I have the runs I don't like to do anything either.

you're better than this!
Since when?

No big loss...
I'm thinking this is probably best for her and her family. She should not lower herself to the level of Senator. Not withstanding the three or four good Senators.
they let a good girl down.

I wonder if she got cold feet at the last minute. I mean she knew Hillary was confirmed yesterday and the governor of NY said he would make his announcement of who would get her seat once that was done. Maybe she realized this was real and about to happen and decided she didn't really want it.
Either that or she was told yesterday by the governor that she wasn't getting it and that gave her time to take this graceful way out.
Either way, I think it was for the best.
Say what you mean. Mean what you say. But don't say it mean.
That said, I think she's a wonderful human being, just not a political animal.
As much as I admire the Kennedys, no one has the "right" to be Senator just because of their name.
This isn't the effing House of Lords.
But such appointments aren't exactly rare in this nations history.
they're still wrong.
Can't have a Senate seat unfilled Prof...the people must have a representative...and if the Senator is appointed to a higher position, and is approved (which is the case here) then someone else must be appointed to fill in...it's not perfect, but it's what we have to work with.
Our new president is live on tv signing executive orders and reading them out loud before he signs each of them. Pretty amazing stuff!
Say what you mean. Mean what you say. But don't say it mean.
My Pet Goat and the Very Hungry Caterpillar. Unless he sings as he reads them to a Minister Farrakhan Calyspso beat.

I'd become so accustomed to mysterious signing statements, back room deals, and Darth's blood infusion lines.
At the end he said we will continue to fight against terror and we will win, but we will win on our terms.
This is just after he had signed one on closing gitmo and one saying interrogations will be done only according to the Army training manual.
Say what you mean. Mean what you say. But don't say it mean.
was a message sent to her by the wingnuts. I know, conspiracies. Never know.
Too bad this happened, but politics is not for the thin skinned. I think that she could be more effective through another channel of public service.
As for the posters that think that the Kennedys are some royal family with an entitlement mentality, I look forward to having you match their record of public service and outreach.

I have translucent skin, and the blue veins can be seen to some extent all over my body but my face. It was really startling looking when my hair was still black.
Combine that with large almond shaped hazel eyes, and something of a Clara Bow mouth, with a body that's was described by my Air Force basic quartermaster as needing something from the short gorilla department, it can be a rather startling effect.

Sounds like some monster from my D&D days...like a kobold or something...a cave dwelling type creature, lol!
I didn't hold on to roomates long in the Air Force. They claimed I growled in my sleep.
And I kept my room as dark and cold as possible (I was in the Mojave desert), so that people called my room the Cave. I was cool with that. I thought it made it like MASH the Swamp. Additionally I wasn't a partier. When not at work or meetings they wouldn't see me.
People were uncomfortable in my room. I deliberatly set furniture like bookcases and wall art in slightly clashing off-angles, not to be noticible, but to annoy the SP's during their drugs searches. One lieutenant said my room was a fire hazard with bookcases over-filled with books and magazines, and not all porn, which they could understand.

I also think there are many other public service opportunities for her to pursue.
He could have mobilized his suypporters to end her indecision.

With Caroline out who will Sarah "the mistreated victim" Palin whine about? You think The Alaska Distasta will follow suit by not running for the presidency in 2012 based on you lack of qualifications, or will she run and bitch some more?
Michael Palin?

On second thought, maybe ol' chimpy just eased her out of that position. Poor sarah, always 1st runner up.

for Sarah Palin's pathetic whining.
Kennedy treated differently by the "liberal media" just because she's a Kennedy.
Riiiiiiiiiiight..
I live in New York and people on the left and the right are tired of the Caroline Kennedy drama.
We're passed the inaugural, Gov. Paterson. Step up and make make the appointment.
How about the people across the street?
I think I'm turning Japanese, I think I'm turning Japanese, I really think so.....
Patterson could learn a thing or two from the esteemed governor of Illinois.
In the case of the Clinton seat, he had to wait until after she was confirmed to name a successor because she was still owner of the seat until the deal was sealed.
I think I'm turning Japanese, I think I'm turning Japanese, I really think so.....
It is a mighty big seat to fill.

They need to move on.
Ricky...HA! Good one!
And secondly...Christopher...I still think the PUMA's were possibly a right wing invention.
But either way, yes they do need to move on.
Who cares? It's a place holder seat anyway. They just need someone who can show up for votes and do what they're told.
if you don't care, why are you commenting? :-/
As a New Yorker, this makes me happy. For two reasons:
1. She openly said she did not actively exercise her right to vote. I don't want someone like that representing me. What would stop her from no showing important senate votes?
2. One time when she was signing copies of her books, she was disinterested, never made eye contact, looked like she really did not want to be there.
I'm sorry, but I'm glad she's out. I would take the son of Cuomo over her, and anyone who lived under Cuomo, like my parents, know how much of a sleeze he is.
I agree. Her not voting showed me she had been disinterested in politics until this golden opportunity came knocking at the door.
