Occupy KS: The Hands of the Free Market Touched Me My No-No Place

As the people of Kansas begin to feel the pain of living in Brownbackistan, it was only a matter of time before they decided to join the Occupy Together movement. AP radio news reported today that the Occupy Wall Street protests had spread to "a few other cities" - if you count 1,340 cities to be a"few."

There have been Occupy Together protests in Kansas City and Lawrence, Kansas as shown above. Contrary to the reporting of the corporate media, there is a coherent, focused message:

LAWRENCE — On Saturday about 150 attended an “Occupy Lawrence” rally in front of the U.S. Bank building on Massachusetts Avenue in support of the Occupy Wall Street movement in New York.

Melissa from #OccupyLawrence read the Declaration of the Occupation of New York City adopted also by the Lawrence General Assembly. The prolog to that document reads:

As we gather together in solidarity to express a feeling of mass injustice, we must not lose sight of what brought us together. We write so that all people who feel wronged by the corporate forces of the world can know that we are your allies.

Steve Robinson from #OccupyLawrence said he started the local web page about the event since “America is broken economically and politically and the people need to fix it.”

Gretchen Alvarez, Lawrence, said her attention-grabbing sign, “The Hand of the Free Market Touched Me in a Bad Place!”, was about her 401(k) retirement savings being “raped” by events on Wall Street.

Their numbers were small, but mighty and right there in the Koch Brothers' home state no less! Not that they'd notice, mind you, but as the Occupy Together movement continues to grow and spread to cities and towns both large and small, eventually they will have no choice but to sit up and take notice.

Kangaroo Courts

Could it be any clearer that this?

The Defense Department was mum Friday on the reasons for the abrupt removal of a Guantánamo war court judge who had threatened to suspend the trial of Canadian captive Omar Khadr in a showdown with the controversial prison camp.

---

Military prosecutors had been pressing Brownback to set a trial date, but he has repeatedly directed them first to satisfy defense requests for access to potential evidence. At a hearing earlier this month, he threatened to suspend the proceedings altogether unless the detention center provided records of Khadr's confinement....read on

Brownback-WI-Favre

AP Via Yahoo:

Note to Sen. Sam Brownback: In Packerland, it's not cool to diss Brett Favre.

The GOP presidential hopeful drew boos and groans Friday at the Wisconsin Republican Party convention when he used a football analogy to talk about the need to focus on families.

"This is fundamental blocking and tackling," he said. "This is your line in football. If you don't have a line, how many passes can Peyton Manning complete? Greatest quarterback, maybe, in NFL history."

Oops, wrong team to mention in Wisconsin, once described by Gov. Tommy Thompson as the place "where eagles soar, Harleys roar and Packers score."

Realizing what he had said, the Kansas Republican slumped at the podium and put his head in his hands.

"I'm not sure how I recover from this," Brownback said. "My point is we've got to rebuild the family. I'll get off this." Read more...

Ouch. That's gonna leave a mark....

GOP Debate: The End Of Roe V. Wade - A Great Day For America

MSNBC-Rdebate-Abortion

The question was the overturning of Roe V. Wade and Rudy Giuliani's response was so bad that Chris Matthews had to go back to him for clarification. Meh, he could live with Roe or without it. "Metronome" Mitt Romney claims that a debate on cloning changed his mind on abortion a couple of years ago, but the kicker had to be the answer from Senator Sam Brownback from Kansas;

Well...except for women.

Did Brownback Sexual Harass Colleague?

The Right's Field:

Senator Sam Brownback sexually harassed his colleague, Senator Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota, earlier today.

It started off innocently enough as he made small-talk with Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar, mentioning, in passing, that senators often take off their ties when negotiating bills behind closed doors. Klobuchar needled him about it.

Klobuchar: "Ties off?... But I don't wear a tie."
Brownback: "I could say ‘dresses off' but I won't."
Klobuchar (laughing, blushing): "Not while you're running for president."

First, eww. Second, I'm sure the Gannon-Coulter defense, "He didn't actually say she should take her dress off" will be brought up by Brownback's supporters who will refuse to see this as anything for which he should be condemned.

A mountain out of a molehill? Perhaps. But I sure wouldn't be happy about a colleague making a crack like that in front of me.

Consortium News: Over the past quarter century, South Korean theocrat Sun Myung Moon has been one of the Bush family’s major benefactors – both politically and financially – while enjoying what appears to be protection against federal investigations into evidence that his cult-like organization has functioned as a criminal enterprise.

Lieberman and the PMRC

I didn't know that Lieberman was part of the PMRC group. The nuts that wanted to censor music back in the 80's.

Howie Klein:

"The story starts with the founding of the PMRC and if you're too young to remember, you ought to read about that sad chapter in American political/cultural history (in that link back there or either this one here or this Gore-bashing right wing point of view here). The principals' names should all sound familiar: Tipper Gore (wife of Al), Susan Baker (wife of Bush family retainer/fixer James), Nancy Thurmond (one of the Strom wives), Lynn Cheney (lesbian pornography writer and wife of alcoholic current vice president Dick). This gaggle of powerful men's wives was the forerunner for three of Washington's most celebrated, loud-mouthed hypocrites: Bill Bennett, Sam Brownback and, of course, Joe Lieberman, who took up their campaign almost as soon as he was elected....read on"

Being a musician-this is quite disturbing. I'll have more on this tomorrow, but it's just another reason to support Ned Lamont.

Lott: Is she the most qualified person? Clearly the answer to that is no.

Brownback : Theres a good chance that I would vote against her in that case...

Arlen Specter says that he might be able to get the sixty seven votes necessary to stop President Bush's veto. He told FTN that he has 62 votes now with fifteen others re-thinking their positions. Brownback is quickly establishing himself as one of the leading candidates to be named to the newly erected "God's Own Circus" Hall of Fame.
