The Weekly Standard

The Weekly Standard prides itself as being a serious right wing publication that's led by Fox News' Bill Kristol. And Bill really loves to use the word serious, too, when he's berating those who don't agree with him as "not serious." Anyway, I don't think I've seen a story about Obama written up in such a false light before that hasn't come from The Gateway Pundit's Jim Hoft.

Watch the above video and then see if it matches with what Daniel Halper writes:

Obama Berates Journalist After Being Asked About Middle East Failures Tells MSNBC host to be more like Israel press.

President Obama went after MSNBC host Chuck Todd for asking too many questions at a press conference today in Jerusalem, Israel.

Obama told Todd, who had asked about the president's failures to achieve Middle East peace, that he should be more like the Israeli press, and only ask one question. And the president called Todd "incorrigible."

Quick, someone call an ethics panel! What I saw was both President Obama and Netanyahu teasing Chuck Todd about his packing as many questions as he could in a short span of time. When Obama says Todd was incorrigible,it was said in a joking manner. And this story was, at the time I wrote this piece, a lead topic on the WS homepage. Daniel Halper should not be called an editor of any kind after this piece if that's how he sees this interchange.

We say that conservatives have created their own journalistic reality and it's no more evident that in this piece from the Weekly Standard.

Reliable Sources

Max Blumenthal looks at the "reliable" sources that the Weekly Standard used to try to besmirch Scott Beauchamp: Matt Sanchez and Throbert McGee.

And yet they still get a national platform.

Taking chickenhawk lessons from Bill Kristol

bio_continetti.jpg After all my time here at C&L, I admit to being a little jaded when it comes to media coverage. I expect things to be partisan and tend to look at it as post fodder more often than not. But every once in a while, some moment will seep past my cynical shell and frankly, make me want to throw something at my TV. I caught Matthew Continetti from the Weekly Standard on C-Span this week and that was one of those moments.

Luckily, uniongal at dKos also saw the show and got video of it. Watch the arrogance of this Bill Kristol protégé and see if you don't feel the same impulse.

Mike's Blog Round Up

Adventus: This is what the pursuit of power over our enemies has wrought: we aren't even arguing anymore about whether or not we should be torturing people, but about who should be involved.

skippy the bush kangaroo: The Weekly Standard obfuscates, twists and ignores facts to try to prove that the left side of blogtopia (yes! we coined that phrase!) is losing readership, and therefore influence. Luckily, skippy doesn't let them off easily...

King of Zembla: An amusing acccount of UN Ambassador, John "Revoltin'" Bolton's recent visit to Oxford...

Politics in the Zeros : Gnomedex, the upcoming geek and blog fest in Seattle the end of this month, will feature Sen. John Edwards. This isn't as odd a choice as it may seem, considering Edwards is an active blogger and podcaster, and was an early adopter to boot.

What Did The President Know and When Did He Know It?

What Did The President Know and When Did He Know It?

Ezra Klein:

"Remember those trailers, the Bushies went on and on about post-invasion? The ones that gave Stephen Hayes and The Weekly Standard kids such throbbing hard-ons? The mobile death labs filled with killer biological cocktails whipped up by villainous Iraqi scientists? Yeah?

They were for hydrogen balloons. As for what the president knew and when he knew it; he knew he was lying and he knew it two days before he lied to the American people....read on"

Imus Smacks down Joe Lieberman

A picture named IMus-smacks-Joe.jpgImus Smacks down Joe Lieberman

Don Imus had a long talk with Joe and pounded him with questions about his latest article in the WSJ. Joe parrots every right wing talking point about Iraq and thinks everything is great even when all the reporters that are embedded say otherwise.

Imus: "You're the only person I talked to who thinks things are going well there..."

At one point Imus says:

Imus: "Somebodies got something on you, this is crazy."

Is Joe trying to replace Stephen Hayes over at the Weekly Standard?

(I'm feeling really bad today, so I can't write much more about the segment. Please keep the thread on the topic. I can't blog much more today)

Bill Kristol Predicts: Rove and Libby Will Be Indicted

Bill Kristol Predicts: Rove and Libby Will Be Indicted

On Fox News Sunday, Bill Kristol once again cited sources that he knows told him Rove and Libby will go down.

Think Progress: "KRISTOL: But talking to people pretty close to both Libby and Rove outside of government, who therefore can talk about it, I think they expect the worse now. I think they –

WALLACE: That both Libby and Rove will be indicted.

KRISTOL: I believe, if I had to predict – and I don’t know more this than anybody else reading the papers – that both Libby and Rove will be indicted, not for what the original referral was about but for some combination of disclosing classified information or perhaps failing to be fully candid with federal investigators or with the grand jury....read on"

This isn't a left winger making a prediction. This is the editor of The Weekly Standard. What's even more interesting is that it's coming from people close to Rove and Libby. People obviously familiar with what has gone on in the court room on some level. What do you think the talking point will be if they do get indicted. An out-of-control prosecutor?

Right Wing Smears Larry Johnson

You knew it was only a matter of time before the right wingers would set their sights on Johnson.

The Weekly Standard fired the first shot today. Here's Larry's response.

Atrios takes some action of his own in this matter by pointing out Gary Schmitt's own words.

The List

Since Bernie Goldberg’s "100 people that I hate" book, the new meme that is coming from the right is to list every liberal that the Circus Clowns and ideologues think are helping the terrorists. Yesterday, O’Reilly jumped on Bernie’s coattails and says he’ll name all the people and organizations he considers to be helping the terrorists on his show each night. ( Tonight he didn't follow through ) In his next segment he had Robert Pollock from the WSJ and Stephen Hayes from the Weekly Standard chime in with their picks.

Hayes had the nerve to say that: " Most Democrats, most liberals are against terrorists and do not advocate what they are doing."

Hayes- You Ignorant Slut! What he is doing is claiming very slyly that liberals do approve of terrorists and their methods so as to set up the fallacy that anybody who disapproves of the White House's methods are aiding and abetting terrorists. Look for the NRO and others to quickly jump on this bandwagon.

It’s time for us to come up with our own list. You know the drill. Tom Tancredo's insipid thought of possibly bombing Mecca jumps out at me. Live Journal has a parody of Bernie's list.
