The resignation rocked the Capitol, and especially Foley's GOP colleagues, as lawmakers were rushing to adjourn for at least six weeks. House Majority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) told The Washington Post last night that he had learned this spring of some "contact" between Foley and a 16-year-old page. Boehner said he told House Speaker J. Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.), and that Hastert assured him "we're taking care of it."

It was not immediately clear what actions Hastert took. His spokesman had said earlier that the speaker did not know of the sexually charged e-mails between Foley and the boy.

Boehner left it up to Hastert who did nothing,,,This is the type of Republican leadership that we've grown to know all too well. Will Denny fall?

Jamie Holly has posted an open letter to John Boehner on his blog, IntoxiNation.net, on the news that Boehner and others in the Republican leadership may have known about Mark Foley's contacts with under-aged pages.

According to this report, you were made aware of Foley's actions and it is apparent you did nothing. Why did you not take action? As majority leader, you should have addressed this situation. Perhaps a better situation for your party would have been vigilance and removed Foley from all positions of power pending an investigation. Instead it is obvious you ignored it...read on
