Virginia Senator: Women Are Childbearers Who 'Some Call Mothers'
Virginia State Senator Steve Martin was upset over a Valentine from pro-choice groups, and lost his composure long enough to express his true feelings toward women.
Apparently State Senator Steve Martin decided calling women "hosts" for unborn children was a little harsh, so he edited his Facebook post ranting about them to "bearers of children." As if that would somehow be less offensive.
And, I don't expect to be in the room or will I do anything to prevent you from obtaining a contraceptive. However, once a child does exist in your womb, I'm not going to assume a right to kill it just because the bearer of the child (some refer to them as mothers) doesn't want it to remain alive.
It started with a Valentine sent by a pro-choice group warning the Senator that they were tracking his activity with regard to anti-abortion legislation. He took exception, and took to Facebook.
Martin voted for Virginia's mandatory ultrasound bill and supported a fetal personhood bill, which would ban all abortions and could affect the legality of some forms of contraception. The Virginia Pro-Choice Coalition had sent him a Valentine's Day card asking him to protect women's reproductive health options, "including preventing unwanted pregnancies, raising healthy children and choosing safe, legal abortion."
Martin reacted strongly to their letter.
"If it's your expectation that I should support such nonsense, I will be breaking your heart," he wrote. "You can count on me to never get in the way of you 'preventing an unintentional pregnancy.' I'm not actually sure what that means, because if it's 'unintentional' you must have been trying to prevent it."
It is certainly offensive to be considered as a "fetus host" by a man as though he had nothing to do with any of it. This part was actually more offensive to me:
We finally get to to the truth at the end of that same line. What they want is access to "safe, legal abortions," any time one might be desired. Okay, then why did you write all the rest of that bologna about raising healthy children (by killing the unhealthy ones), having access to healthcare (which you do), and preventing unwanted pregnancies (don't have unprotected sex)?
That last line? Yeah. It's all the women, men haven't got a damned thing to do with it.
