GA GOP Candidate Jody Hice: No Religious Liberty For Muslims

Perhaps Mr. Hice should remove the mote in his own eye before removing the splinter in others' eyes.

Jody Hice, candidate for Georgia's 10th Congressional district delivered a message that appealed to his xenophobic, fearful and ignorant base.

Raw Story:

A Republican candidate seeking to represent Georgia’s 10th U.S. House district believes that the First Amendment’s guarantee of religious liberty does not apply to followers of Islam.

“Although Islam has a religious component, it is much more than a simple religious ideology,” Rev. Jody Hice wrote in his 2012 book It’s Now Or Never, according to Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “It is a complete geo-political structure and, as such, does not deserve First Amendment protection.”

The House candidate also believes the Muslim Brotherhood is secretly infiltrating the United States in a plot to impose Sharia law on the entire country, a conspiracy theory he shares with Reps. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) and Louie Gohmert (R-TX).

Pot, meet kettle. Let's talk Dominionist Christianity for a moment. You know, that geo-political structure hard-right wingers like Hice want to install in Washington, DC?

  • Dominionists celebrate Christian nationalism, in that they believe the United States once was, and should again be, a Christian nation. In this way, they deny the Enlightenment roots of American democracy.
  • Dominionists promote religious supremacy, insofar as they generally do not respect the equality of other religions, or even other versions of Christianity.
  • Dominionists endorse theocratic visions, believing that the Ten Commandments, or "biblical law," should be the foundation of American law, and that the U.S. Constitution should be seen as a vehicle for implementing Biblical principles.

I don't call these people the Tea Party Taliban randomly. It's what they are. It's just sad that our electorate is ignorant enough to believe it.
