Fox News Analyst Wonders If Secret Service Purposely Didn't Do Their Duty

Did they wish or did they wonder?

The head of the Secret Service was questioned today before a House Committee over their failures to adequately protect the President of the United States as recent events unfolded.

Lawmakers from both parties on Tuesday assailed Julia Pierson, the director of the Secret Service, about security breaches at the White House, including an intruder who earlier this month breached multiple security measures and evaded capture as he ran around the first floor of the mansion.

Representative Stephen F. Lynch, Democrat of Massachusetts, lashed into Ms. Pierson, saying that he did not believe the Secret Service takes seriously its duty to protect the president. He said he had “very low confidence” in her leadership.

It seems incomprehensible that somebody could walk right in the front door of the White House armed with a knife, looking for blood without any resistance. Luckily he was stopped by an off-duty agent, who tackled and apprehended the suspect. On top of that an explosive new Washington Post article exposed the Secret Service for failing to do their jobs back in 2011: Secret Service fumbled response after gunman hit White House residence in 2011.

If these lapses had happened while George Bush was in office, the conservarazzi outrage would be at DEFCON 1, and they'd be laying out a case relentlessly on Fox News and AM talk radio why liberals were responsible for trying to assassinate George W Bush. Some unnamed sources would come forward and explain how the head of the Secret service voted for Al Gore, but since Obama is in the White House, there's been barely a peep out of them about the safety of the president or his family. So I was pretty surprised when Fox News' Gretchen Carlson said today what many people, at least peripherally are thinking.

Carlson: You know, it's interesting Dan because when we hear this kind of lapse in security and all these different layers that this intruder had managed to get past, it almost sounds like people didn't want to do their jobs, what's it sound like to you?

I don't believe the Secret Service would purposely not do their jobs no matter who was in office, but with failure after failure it sure does make you wonder.
