I wrote last week about the horrifying story of brutal hazing by students at Sayreville High school that rocked the country.

A town that found encouragement in its winning high school football team after the devastation of Superstorm Sandy was left to absorb another blow Tuesday after school officials canceled the season over allegations of bullying, intimidation and harassment among players.

Finally, some arrests were made.

At least six members of the Sayreville High School football team were taken into custody by police this evening on charges in connection with a series of locker room sexual assaults on four victims, NJ Advance Media has learned.

A seventh player was charged, but not immediately taken into custody. He was being sought by police.

The parent of one victim later described what occurred as a violent ritual involving anal sexual attacks by seniors who routinely preyed on freshmen.

The players taken into custody — who ranged in age from 15 to 17 — were at home with parents or guardians when police arrived, law enforcement sources told NJ Advance Media. Those sources, who were familiar with the arrests, asked not to be identified because they were not authorized to speak publicly about the matter.

And how horrendous was the hazing, if you can call it that?

Four players would pounce on a freshman, pinning him to the locker room floor. Two would provide lookout at the door. And one player would howl, cut off the lights and digitally penetrate the freshman.

The final attacker, the parent said, would sexually assault the prone victim, inserting a finger into his rectum and then placing the finger into the freshman's mouth.

"It's sickening, man," the parent said. "Not only to hear the description, but to see these freshmen that are in the locker room or these other kids that don't want to be bothered with that stuff in the locker room, and just think if my son or somebody else's son wanted to leave … they couldn't leave because there was somebody at the door there. I could see the kids saying, 'You're not going nowhere until this is over.' It's just like being in a bad dream, you know?"

Thus far, four victims of the abuse have come forward. A previous report suggested the abuse happened daily:

"Right on the floor. … It was happening every day. They would get the freshmen."He added: "Kids would just sit around and witness [stuff] like this."
