Conservatives Turn Their Twitter Rage On Alan Colmes After Fox News Appearance

Outrage is a currency on social media, but the venom aimed at Colmes was way over the top.

You might think Alan Colmes isn't progressive enough, or plays that token Democrat on Fox News. You know, it's a dirty job but someone's got to do it if only to offer some modicum of counterpoint to the endless drumbeats of hate rolling over the air from them. Friday night, he appeared on Megyn Kelly's show to discuss the current rebellion of NYPD officers -- retired and current -- against Mayor Bill de Blasio.

As Amato noted in his post, this round of hate directed at de Blasio isn't about the killings of two police officers. It's pure politics, intended to soften up the mayor and slam progressive policies. Leverage. After all, they're in the middle of contract negotiations right now, so it's to the union's benefit to put de Blasio in as vulnerable a position as possible in order to keep him from instituting policy and wage decisions they don't like.

So when Alan Colmes speaks the truth; namely, that Bill de Blasio is not slamming NYPD officers at all but simply shifting policies to a fairer method of policing, he's hardly saying anything controversial. Still, that doesn't stop insane people on Twitter from giving their venom a loud and ugly voice.

This one made me laugh hard, since the whole idea of bring a pundit on the show is to offer "their interpretation" of someone else's words. So it was like...duh.

These tweets were a response to an earlier appearance:

This is just a smattering of what he got, but it really gives you some idea of what runs through the heads of Fox News viewers. In their mind, Alan Colmes is interfering with their self-important victimhood image. As long as they can sit on their couch and nod at the pretty lady on the screen telling them how mean and wrong liberals are, they're great. But challenge them even a little bit, and they go nuts.

It's a form of mind control. Ailes has the formula down pat. Give viewers their own fantasy world where they are the heroes of their own story simply by going on social media and slaying liberal dragons.

I wonder what they'd say if they ever met one of us in real life and didn't actually realize we were liberals until we started talking. Would they still be such haters? Somehow, I doubt it.
