If Rand Paul and his staff think they're going to attract young people, they need to think again. I ran this bit of nonsense past my almost-21 year old daughter, and she didn't have much good to say about it. The word "stupid" might have been tossed about.

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) tweaked Jeb Bush and Hillary Clinton in a tweet on Thursday that had audio of a faked conversation between the two.

In the conversation, an actor playing the former Florida governor calls an actress playing the former secretary of State, and the two argue over whose turn it is to be president.

“I just wanted to call and give you a heads-up in hopes we could work something out,” the person playing Bush says.

"What do you mean, Jeb? It’s clearly my turn: Bush, Clinton, Bush. Now, Clinton,” the person playing Clinton says.

He dropped the "secret" recording on Soundcloud, along with this tweet:

The fake phone call also dings Clinton for saying she and former President Bill Clinton left the White House “dead broke,” and seeks to tie Bush and Clinton together on policy issues.

“Maybe we can work something out,” fake Clinton says in the call. “We both agree on so many issues: bigger government, Common Core, and amnesty for illegal immigrants.”

I'm assuming he's aiming at millennial-type voters with this, but if so, it's a dismal failure on a number of levels. First, the dialogue is crummy and stupid. Second, it reeks of ageism. Maybe Rand Paul has forgotten that young people have parents and grandparents that they may not agree with, but don't appreciate others disrespecting.

Or in my daughter's words, there's just this: "Gross. No thanks."
