Marco Rubio's 'Doctrine': Lies, War, And More War

One of the three pillars of his so-called doctrine is just wrong.

Marco Rubio has released "The Rubio Doctrine," which outlines his approach to foreign policy and which also will disqualify him from the White House for ignorance if not warmongering.

Let's start with the Big Lie:

We must recognize that our nation is a global leader not just because it has superior arms, but because it has superior aims. America is the first power in history motivated by a desire to expand freedom rather than its own territory.

Has Marco Rubio had a conversation with any Native Americans recently? Because I'm pretty sure they'd dispute that claim. If they didn't, perhaps Mexico might. The first 100 years of this nation's existence was mostly spent expanding its own territory.

Which brings me to modern times. Perhaps the Cheney/Bush administration didn't say out loud that they intend to annex Iraq, but that's precisely what they meant to do. Maybe not the territory, but at least the resources contained therein.

Anyone who has a basic understanding of American history understands exactly how false that statement is.

Now that we've dispensed with that, let's look at the other two legs of Rubio's three-legged footstool foreign policy doctrine.

And that brings me to the second pillar of my doctrine, which is the protection of the American economy in a globalized world.

Rubio goes on to sing praises for the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPP), and criticizes Hillary Clinton for not embracing it with full zeal. This is a no-brainer for Rubio, since no one really knows what's in it. He could just as easily come out and say we need a global race to the bottom and it would be about what he said there.

Rubio's "doctrine" has one more leg to the footstool, and that's "American Strength."

This is an idea that stems from a simple truth: the world is at its safest when America is at its strongest. When America has the mightiest Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, and intelligence community in the world, the result is more peace, not more conflict.

But it's so much more than flexing our muscles and strutting around telling everyone how strong we are. Rubio has some promises to go along with it.

As president, I will use American power to oppose any violations of international waters, airspace, cyberspace, or outer space. This includes the economic disruption caused when one country invades another, as well as the chaos caused by disruptions in chokepoints such as the South China Sea or the Strait of Hormuz.

So Rubio would go around starting wars all over the world, huffing and puffing and threatening to blow everyone's house down over every single little thing?

Strike Rubio from the list of contenders. He can't even get our own history straight.
