Citadel Cadets Suspended After 'Caroling' In White Hoods

But it's all in good fun, right?

8 Citadel cadets were suspended following the posting of photos on Facebook of them "caroling" in white hoods.

After photos surfaced on social media showing Citadel cadets in white hoods and reportedly singing Christmas carols, eight cadets have been suspended from the school as an investigation continues into the photos.

...

According to a post made late Wednesday night, a woman said she was approached by a guy she did not know on several social media platforms who reportedly told her "I always wanted a black girl."

The woman says in the post she stopped replying to his advances, but when she looked at her Snapchat feed she could see his story on her feed. When she looked at the story, she could see the photos and videos of the Citadel cadets singing and laughing.

"I screenshotted and decided to share because I was so offended," she wrote. "Was this their idea of some kind of joke?"

The woman says in the post that the guy told her the pictured cadets were ghosts and they were only joking. She says the guy asked her to remove her post, and she did because she was scared.

But then she reposted it, she said because she thought it was important other people saw the photos.

The Citadel's statement is below.

(function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = "//connect.facebook.net/en_US/sdk.js#xfbml=1&version=v2.3"; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);}(document, 'script', 'facebook-jssdk'));

Statement from The CitadelA social media posting, which I find offensive and disturbing, was brought to my attention...

The real story here isn't that a bunch of cadets going to school in a place with a reputation for exclusivity dressed up in white hoods. The real story is the unnamed girl who refused to be bullied and stood up for what's right. I just hope her identity remains a closely-guarded secret, because these guys wouldn't hesitate to engage in a little retribution.
