Fox Drags Pat Buchanan Out Of Mothballs To Rant About HB2 Lawsuit

Please, just put him back.

Earlier today, U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch slammed the state of North Carolina in a press conference, calling HB2 "state-sponsored discrimination against transgender individuals. The Department of Justice is currently seeking a permanent injunction against North Carolina to bar implementation of that law.

Right after Lynch's press conference was finished, Fox News dragged Pat Buchanan out of mothballs to proclaim "States' Rights!" for all.

"I hope the Department of Justice and President Obama gets stuffed on this one," Buchanan declared. "Look, the idea that a grown man should get to use girls' locker rooms and girls' bathrooms is ridiculous."

One thing a moldy bigot like Buchanan can't abide is any mention of the Civil Rights Act. He's still burnt about it, after all.

"There is no great crisis here in America and to compare this with the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and go back to those days and the Voting Rights Act and Selma in 1965? It's ridiculous!"

Except in some ways, it's even more insidious. Will North Carolina examine birth certificates at the door to each public restroom? Of course not. So this is just a way to express hate toward people who aren't like straight white people, which is exactly what the Civil Rights Act and the Voting Rights Act were about.

Bathrooms for me, not for thee.

After some argle-bargle back and forth with Cavuto, they both agreed that it just shouldn't be a law after all. But since Charlotte passed one, then the state just had to step up?

Both of them seem to have a real problem with transgender men using women's restrooms, but the reverse doesn't faze them at all. No problem with transgender women using men's restrooms at all.

Listening to Buchanan sing the praises of the Civil Rights movement is a joke unto itself.

This whole exchange is emblematic of what conservatives do. They hate someone or a group of someones. They discriminate against them or try to criminalize their behavior. When they're challenged on it under federal law, they blame the group they hate without ever accepting their own role in it.

The truth is, no one would have been passing "bathroom bills" if conservatives hadn't tried to criminalize transgender behavior.
