Sheriff Joe Arpaio Found In Contempt Of Court By Federal Judge

The question now is whether Arpaio will face criminal contempt charges.

Sheriff Joe Arpaio may find himself in a pink jumpsuit sitting in a tent city somewhere, if today's contempt ruling is any indicator.

Judge Murray Snow ruled that Arpaio is in contempt of court for ignoring and disobeying the court's orders with regard to racial profiling in Maricopa County.

ABC News reports:

The ruling Friday marked one of the biggest legal defeats in the six-term career of Sheriff Joe Arpaio, who is known for cracking down on illegal immigration, and was expected to lead to greater court oversight of his office. A hearing will be held May 31 to examine whether he will face a criminal contempt case.

The 83-year-old Arpaio, who is seeking a seventh term this year, and three of his top aides "have demonstrated a persistent disregard for the orders of this court, as well as an intention to violate and manipulate the laws and policies regulating their conduct," U.S. District Judge Murray Snow wrote in a 162-page ruling.

One hundred and sixty-two pages. That's a heck of a ruling. The judge must have listed at least every other time Arpaio defied him.

Stay tuned for the ruling on whether he'll face criminal contempt charges. One can only hope so.
