Ben Ginsberg is still a fairly well respected political consultant for Republicans, and he more or less shattered Joe Scarborough's excuse-making about Melania Trump's speech last night.

Scarborough was all about blaming the campaign. Sloppy process, not enough people, no one to review or run the speech through a simple plagiarism filter, and so on.

Ginsberg, on the other hand, cut straight to the heart of things, knocking the wind out of Scarborough's apologism.

"This is somebody who changed a couple of words in it and thought by changing a couple of words it somehow made it okay," Ginsberg said.

"But what you can't estimate is what a sucker punch this is. What a punch to the solar plexus...I think the psyche of the campaign and the game of trying to build the momentum is really, really much more difficult with something like this," he concluded.

His point is well-taken. It puts a damper on the entire convention and portrays Trump as a terrible manager who can't handle a speech, much less running the country.

Maybe it's a sucker punch and maybe it isn't. This is the Trump campaign, after all, where nothing seems to stick for longer than the next news cycle.
