Did Corey Lewandowski Admit To Contact With James Comey Ahead Of The Election?
The newspaper reporting the story seems to have carefully edited his quote to soften the nature of the contact to minimize fallout.
Corey Lewandowski gave a speech to the Oxford Union debating society on Wednesday evening where he effectively said that James Comey handed Trump the election.
According to a Telegraph report, Lewandowski said, "With 11 days to go in this election cycle, something amazing happened. The FBI director, James Comey, came out on a Friday and said they may be reopening the investigation into ‘crooked’ Hillary Clinton’s emails.”
What inside information did he have?
There's no denying that James Comey's unprecedented announcement ten days before the general election about reviewing new Clinton emails had a huge impact on the election's outcome because he broke decades of protocols and didn't have to.
The Clinton campaign said as much and now Trump's former campaign manager doubled down on that premise.
Corey continued, "What that did was remind people that there are two different rules in Washington - those of the elites, and the privileged and those for everybody else. When Comey moved forward with that investigation... it allowed the campaign a little spring in their step, and for them to redouble their efforts."
That story seems to confirm some form of contact with Lewandowski. But you should also pay attention to how the original story was edited.
Last night's version of the article tells a much different story.
Digby sent out this tweet from The Telegraph which had transcript of Corey telling the Oxford audience, "The FBI's Director James [Comey], rang me up on Friday and he said they may be reopening the investigation of Crooked Hillary's emails."

This is very disturbing.
Why would the Director of the FBI ever need to tell anybody associated with the Trump campaign about what he was going to do regarding any type of investigation?
Collusion abounds.
Suddenly, The Telegraph scrubbed that bit of dialog and changed the article with no explanation.
They changed "rang me up" to "came out on a Friday."
Digby then tweeted:
Why would they do that?
It's too specific to be a typo.
Digby then tweeted out a screen grab of the Telegraph article with the quotes included to prove what she originally tweeted.

It's bad enough that Comey handed the election to Trump with his "opportune" letter to Congress, but if the original Telegraph story is correct, then it shows us that Giuliani's contacts within the FBI were doing their best to illegally influence the outcome of the presidential election.
