Even Fox News Employees Were Humiliated By Coverage Of Mueller Indictments
But not enough to actually quit or demand changes to the culture.
Some Fox News employees turned to CNN reporters to complain about how their network handled the coverage of Mueller's unsealed indictments and George Papadopoulis' plea bargain yesterday.
According to CNN, one Fox News personality texted that "I'm watching now and screaming," while watching the coverage, telling the CNN reporter they "want to quit."
One wonders whether Shep Smith is that personality and whether he will indeed quit.
Another senior Fox News employee complained, "It is another blow to journalists at Fox who come in every day wanting to cover the news in a fair and objective way."
That same employee added, "Fox feels like an extension of the Trump White House."
In addition, some Fox News employees took exception to the ridiculous counterspin attempting to discredit Mueller (see Jeanine Pirro, for example). "This kind of coverage does the viewer a huge disservice and further divides the country," a Fox News personality complained.
This is fine and well. But it isn't as if they didn't know what they signed up for when they signed onto Fox News. It isn't exactly like Fox News morphed into something else the day Trump was elected.
This is what Fox News is. It's what Rupert Murdoch and Roger Ailes envisioned. It is the legacy of poisoned minds in the body politic.
It's great that some employees object. But until they do something real to end the non-stop parade of liars, thieves and propagandists polluting our airwaves and poisoning our politics, it's just a bunch of words.
Sound and fury, signifying nothing.
