Now that Kris Kobach is locked in a death match of a primary with Kansas governor Jeff Colyer, calls have mounted for Kobach to recuse himself from the canvass in light of his clear conflict of interest.

So far, Kobach has made noise about recusal but not committed, so Lou Dobbs felt the need to prop him up Thursday night. (Truth be told, Lou probably needs more propping at this point, but I digress...)

I assume that as Secretary of State, you've got some people very carefully watching all of this transpire, particularly the decision about which votes will be permitted. That process, some have said that you should step aside, as overseeing the process as Secretary of State.

I have to tell you straight up, I'm delighted to see a Republican official who doesn't instantly bow to a Democratic demand, or -- or another Republican demand, in some cases, and recuse himself. Either you have integrity, and that is the test, or you don't.

Apparently Lou Dobbs forgot that the person calling for Kobach to recuse is Jeff Colyer, his Republican opponent who also happens to be the current Governor of Kansas. It was Colyer -- again, a REPUBLICAN -- who called for Kobach to recuse himself from overseeing his own vote count in a race where they're both currently separated by 121 votes.

Kobach said later he would recuse himself, but that it was a "symbolic" move, because responsibility for counting rests with counties. Never mind that the Secretary of State arbitrates provisional ballots and final counts. It's "symbolic." Sure thing.

But hey, at least Lou Dobbs is proud of him, right?

UPDATE: KAKE Kansas is reporting that Kobach will finally recuse himself.
