Rep. Raskin Clowns McCarthy Over Bakersfield Crime Rates

The Republican House is "debating" DC criminal codes. And Jamie Raskin isn't having it.

Rep Jamie Raskin turned the tables on Speaker McCarthy's efforts to overturn a new law put into effect by the District of Columbia, by highlighting McCarthy's own district as having one of the highest crime rates in America.

Instead of focusing on issues that help the country, House Republicans are holding a hearing today to overturn two District of Columbia's measures, one to overhaul their century-old criminal code.

Rep, McCarthy joined his party in denouncing crime in DC, so Rep. Raskin targeted his own district.

"Turns out that Bakersfield, California has one of the highest crime rates in America," Raskin said. "Recently described as one of the top 10 deadliest cities in America for its size."

"Its crime rate is higher than that of Washington DC!" he said.

"And yet we're are going to take this opportunity to kick around the people of Washington D.C. why? -- because they are vulnerable. Because they don't have voter representation in the House and have no voting representation or voice in the U.S. Senate."

"My colleagues instead want to use the people of Washington DC as a whipping post. As a piƱata, something to kick around. And I think that's just outrageous," Raskin said.

Speaker McCarthy should try to get his own house in order before even mentioning the word crime.

A new national report by the security site, SafeWise, has ranked Bakersfield in the top ten most dangerous metro areas in America.

Factors include high crime, theft, and how much money goes into law enforcement.
KCSO Sheriff Donny Youngblood says, "We know we have a violent crime issue."

By the way, the D.C. population is 712,816.

Bakersfield's population is 407,615.

DC has a bigger population than Wyoming - 576,851, Vermont - 643,077, and is close to Alaska - 733,391.

But wait, there's more.
