DeSantis: Not Everyone Really Knows What Wokeness Is
Here's one definition: "Any form of diversity that takes power away from the white majority."
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis told CNN that most people don't even understand what the term "wokeness" means even though he himself has "defined it."
CNN host Jake Tapper listed off a survey of the top concerns with military recruitment, and "wokeness" was at the bottom of the list.
"The number two issue, where women and racial or ethnic minorities are discriminated against in the army," Tapper observed. "Wokeness is listed, but it's only #9, so that would suggest that woke is not as big.."
The defining issue of DeSantis' campaign is described as one of the most destructive for military recruitment.
"Well, but I think there's an issue about -- not everyone really knows what wokeness is," DeSantis interrupted. "I mean, I’ve defined it, but a lot of people who rail against wokeness can’t even define it."
Wokeness, in many instances, is any form of diversity that takes power or privilege away from the white majority. DeSantis uses 'wokeness" as a way to disparage the LGBTQ community and any center-left idea he can rope into his culture war agenda.
Since DeSantis' whole campaign is based on racism, bigotry, and Christian nationalism, the fact that his platform does not poll well outside of Republicans in Florida is no surprise.
