Well, alrighty then. It seems that Romney is ready to pull out the full monty on race-based signals, at least based on this tweet.

As if it wasn't bad enough that he used the Australian Foreign Minister's comments to support his theory that America has "declined" under President Obama, now we have campaign advisors promising he will restore the "Anglo-Saxon understanding" to our "special relationship" with the UK. It gets better, too:

As the Republican presidential challenger accused Barack Obama of appeasing America’s enemies in his first foreign policy speech of the election campaign, advisers told The Daily Telegraph that he would abandon Mr Obama’s “Left-wing” coolness towards London.

In remarks that may prompt accusations of racial insensitivity, one suggested Mr Romney was better placed to understand the ties between the countries than Mr Obama, whose father was from Africa. “We are part of an Anglo-Saxon heritage, and he feels that the special relationship is special,” the adviser said of Mr Romney, adding: “The White House didn’t fully appreciate the shared history we have.”

Does anyone here remember how humiliated they felt when Bush/Cheney went abroad and embarrassed all of us with their stupid remarks and rough-cut swagger? This is ten times worse, because Romney knows these people. He's been doing business in Europe for a very long time. His Bain entities bolstered Deutsche Bank and pushed them into the world of the oligarchs.

Romney is good buddies with Bibi Netanyahu, who he first met when they both were employed at the Boston Consulting Group. He presents himself as a "man of the world."

Yet, with all of that, he still availed himself of the opportunity to suggest that there has been and should once again be a "special Anglo-Saxon" relationship. Oh, and he'll restore Churchill's bust that "Obama ordered removed." Yeah, that's another one of those 'ZOMG the Kenyan' moments.

Granted, these tweets came from an editor at the Daily Telegraph, a Rupert Murdoch publication with about the same level of integrity (that is to say, none) as any other Murdoch property* a renowned Tory publication. But one could assume that those "advisors" were in friendly territory, and that Rupert they would not care to see Romney embarrassed in any way while he's abroad, right?

Good job, there, Mitt. Way to embarrass the country, white, black, brown and otherwise. And worse, to telegraph (no pun intended) your true belief that the United States of America might -- gasp! -- be a multicultural, multicolored place that only white people are qualified to lead.

*Text corrected: Rupert Murdoch wanted to own the Telegraph, but doesn't. It's owned by the Barclay brothers.
