Wingnuts Oppose Syria Strikes -- But Want To Bomb Benghazi

Conservatives are ready to bearhug military strikes, but only if they can choose the target.

(Flogging Benghazi on the House Floor)

Just about the time you thought maybe conservatives were getting a clue that military strikes in the Middle East were a bad idea, they show themselves as the hypocrites they are.

You've heard a lot from Republicans and their tea party counterparts in recent days about how they simply cannot support the limited military strike on Syria that President Obama has requested Congress to authorize. You've got to love statements like this:

"Our bombs aren’t any better than the chemical weapons the Syrians are lobbing,” said Kelly Khuri, a leader of the Tea Party group, who was nonplused at the first protest she attended a week earlier to be linking arms with the progressive left. “It kind of freaked me out,” she said.

How noble of her. Could it be that the far right could actually align with the far left and even those not so far left who think military strikes would make things worse in Syria? Could it actually be?

No. As proof, I offer you whacko Allen West as evidence.

With Capitol Hill marking the anniversary of the Sept. 11 terror attacks and hotly debating military intervention in Syria on Wednesday, former Rep. Allen West (R-Fla.) returned to Washington to focus on something else: Benghazi.

If there are to be any military strikes by the United States in the near future, they should be against that Libyan city where terrorists killed four Americans in an attack on the U.S. diplomatic outpost there exactly one year ago, West said.

West and others, including Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas). were pushing for the appointment of a select committee to further investigate what went on there that night, and why the alleged perpetrators have yet to be brought to justice.

But West went further, arguing that the Benghazi killings were terrorist attacks that should be dealt with like an act of war.

"I don't think that this is a police action," West told reporters. "I think this is a military action, and if you want to have military action, I think it's very much so justified in Libya, because that was part of our national security interests.

See, it's not that conservatives give a damn about bombs being lobbed at brown people.

It's just that they want to be the ones to choose which brown people deserve to die.
