DCCC launches Independence Day Campaign

DCCC:

Congressman Chris Van Hollen, Chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC), announced today the DCCC is launching an Independence Day ad and grassroots campaign in 14 targeted Republican districts. The ads begin airing on Monday during drive time and will run for five days.

"Next week, Republicans are going home to talk up their support for our nation's troops and veterans. But, their constituents deserve to know that the Republican record on veterans is all talk and no action," said Chairman Chris Van Hollen. "America's troops and veterans deserve more than patriotic speeches this Independence Day."

Liberal AND Proud @ 1:

Just mail the constituents pictures of flag draped coffins.

Doesn't this administration still have an embargo on those kinds of pictures?

If they want to support the freakin' troops, bring them home and stop wearing them out and getting them killed and injured. Stop keeping them from their families and making kids grow up with out really knowing their parents. Stop men and women from getting a divorce because they can't take the pressure of their spouse being away more than he or she is home. Just bring them out of the middle of another country's civil war. That's supporting the troops.

What comes out of a Republican's mouth about the military is no better than what goes into a military latrine.

Yes, but not on pictures of "dead fetuses."

They should just send out the magnetic ribbons
to put on their cars. That would PROVE they
really support the troops.

How about starting with funding the VA ...for traumatic head injuries...heck of job Jorge

I'm voting for Democrats, but I don't have enough confidence in them to give them money. They performed pretty weakly in opposing the war. In fact, they're funding our current "Summer of Carnage" in Iraq.

I'm interested in seeing how they perform in restoring our Constitution. I'm afraid they'll even compromise on their oath "to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution." Anyone who fails to uphold that oath shouldn't be in government. And anyone who violates that oath - like most Bush Administration officials, including Bush and Cheney, should be IN JAIL.

To the Dems: we're voting for you because we know that the Republicans are the pro-carnage, pro-torture, pro-secret prisons, pro-warrantless wiretappling Party. But to actively support the Dems with money, some of us need to see what you're willing to do. Want our money? Earn it.

Right frickin' on!!!

Why, pray tell, has this not been a Democratic talking point WHENEVER they were on tv talking about the treatment of troops. They seem to want to pinpoint Walter Reed and extended deployments, while ignoring other OUTRAGES!

Soon, some more soldiers will be Independent of their bodies.

Is the rep also going to spotlight the Dems who voted for the supplemental? I would like to see my rep have a primary challenge. He is a blue-dog warmonger.

Ironchef's picture

Brilliant! A little weak and vague. If they wanted to use their ad money more wisely, they'd target ads to areas and show the actual voting the rep from that area made on those specific things. Let the constiuents know exactly what is and what isn't the truth when their rep starts the lying speeches.

WashStateBlue's picture

This is good for two reasons: One, it's the truth, and two, the Democrats LOSE many times cause they are seen as soft, where the Republics are TOUGH HE-MEN, even though most of them are just chicken-hawk bullies?

The Republics have been calling us "Godless Traitors" for decades and we just went "gee...how mean!"

Time to start spitting nails back at these lying cowards!

This is JUST the start IMHO?

How about the ad pointing out what a WAR PROFITEER
Cheney is?

Go for the throat, and don't let up.....

QuakerDave's picture

Right. And most Congressional Dimocrats gave Bush the go-ahead to start this stupid mess in the first place, and many of them continue to vote to fund the slaughter.

Sorry: can't have it both ways.

Godless SOB's picture

You know, this started out good, then lost it with a weak ending.

How about:

Republicans owe our troops REAL SUPPORT, not LIES.

Republicans owe our troops an APOLOGY for: (scrolling) Failure in Afghanistan, Failure in Iraq, Extended Tours, Abu Ghraib, Walter Reed, Poor Health Care, Emotional Scars, 3,570 Dead Troops, 34,000+ Injured Troops, etc.

Republicans owe our troops REAL SUPPORT: (scrolling) A PLAN for Success, Body Armor, Vehicle Armor, Health Care, Family Support, Better Pay for Combat, Benefits for National Guard Troops, etc.

Show some fighting spirit instead of playing nice! All you have to do is tell the truth!

Godless SOB's picture

Or how about

Video of repugnicans saying "support the troops"
then a big LIAR stamp comes down on the screen and shows a short but powerful example of the hypocrisy of person in the video...

You could do 2 or 3 repugnicans in one 30-45 second ad.

Another one with repugnicans calling dems cowards or unpatriotic, with a LIAR stamp hammering down, then an example of unethical or criminal behaviour.

Bush and Cheney would require a two week miniseries to even scratch the surface, but there are plenty of quick and dirty examples we could use there! And link - powerfully link - all the repugnicrats to Bush and Dick.

If we don't slaughter the repugs in 2008, it's because democrats and progressives are pussies and don't know how to fight. Why aren't we marching on Washington??? Why aren't we having huge protests locally and at our State capitols? We should be screaming bloody murder!

ST's picture

It's about time. They should have included the fact that the Republicans voted against a supplemental bill that was "EXCLUSIVELY" for providing body armor for soldiers in Iraq. The vote was in 2004, I believe. It was either body armor or armor for humvees. That's all the bill was for. Republicans, who were in the majority, voted against the bill which was exclusively for "ARMOR."

But then again, I think that supplemental bill was in the Senate.

The other thing that even a high percentage of the military families don't know...

The large increase in military funding that was enacted when President Bush took office... was drafted and approved by President Clinton, Bush had nothing to do with it!

Honestly...being a member of the armed forces and also a Democrat, I can say I absolutely hate political ads that almost exploit us for any kind of gain. All of the contradictions to "Support the Troops" needs to be addressed but damn...I'm just tired of all the attack ads!
