I'm surprised they remembered Frist, the cat killer. Don't forget about Dobson and his dog...

wasn't Mo Rocca funny at one time??? Wow. He's like Dana2.

Willard will treat us like his dog and then say we loved it.

Geez.

speaking of the White House I saw this headline on Yahoo.com "White House needs 'clean sweep,' Clinton says" ... once again she is off the mark...the White House doesn't need to be swept, it needs to be boiled to clense it from the filth left by Bush and Cheney...can you imagine the ring around the oval office? just awful!

also has anyone heard of Cheney ever having a pet? something that he didn't kill? or does he just have his dog Cerberus?

Before 9/11 Giuliani worked to protect New York from... ferrets. Guess there's room in the Big Apple for only one weasel.

"Compassionate" conservatives one and all!

[Deleted. Good bye]

yes, although i do like keith olbermann, mo rocca is just not funny in this clip -- seriously reaching for every laugh line. pardon the pun, but it seems like keith was just trying to throw mo a bone.

i've always thought keith should leave the comedy to the daily show and stick to his forté, which is indignation based on the seemingly endless stream of transgressions committed within our political class. given the clearly inhumane treatment of this dog in the story that romney seems to have thought was a great example of his great decision making and crisis management, there was plenty to go on without the weak attempts at humor.

Romney=Clark Griswald,dragging the dog...lol

[Deleted. Do you have a point?]

Olbermann loves Olbermann

LOL

i'm kind of upset at crooksandliars and countdown for giving this story so much attention. while amusing, we should keep our focus on more important things. this is the kind of story fox news would go after (only if romney was a democrat). we are above this. let's move on. daily show is a much better medium to highlight this story.

Provoke the giant and him overreact. Increasing the scope of the conflict is the numbr one strategy for any force that is outnumbered. If only we could give these idiots brains instead of weapons.

Ugh. Mitt Romney is a slimy motherfucker. Maybe even moreso than Giuliani.

Mo Rocca was only funny because The Daily Show allowed him to be. After that, he did those awful VH1 countdown shows, and he was no longer funny.

I do have to agree with the 7th commenter, though... this is a pathetic story, and has no real importance, other than to poke fun at goons like Romney.

Besides, anyone who has a conservative dad knows they don't think twice about killing animals. My dad used to brag about having run over cats ON PURPOSE. It's part of the macho facade they put on to distract from the fact that they get hard-ons for strong male authority figures. If you're going to fawn over every mean asshole that reminds you of your abusive father, you just HAVE to act like an unfeeling hardass, otherwise it all seems kinda gay.

[Deleted. Thank you for your "concern" but Pelosi is not the topic of the thread]

You wont be missed Ezzy.

Anyway, I just dont get people that would boast about needlessly killing some animal, though I know many of them. My father is an animal lover and he worked in a slaughter house for years killing things, he wont kill a bug if its annoying him but when it comes to food though he is all business. Guess poverty dulls peoples sensitivity to cruelty in various forms.

The cat killer? I can't even force myself to read about that.

[Deleted. Off topic]

BOOOO REPUBLICANS!!!

Jesse, I disagree. I'm glad this story has legs. How a person treats an animal (especially a supposed cherished family pet) is a very good indicator on how he would lead a country. Remember Bush blowing up frogs with fire crackers? And killing animals is macho? BS. It's an attempt at being macho. They're sad, pathetic, powerless assholes kicking downward because they got kicked around as kids and they're too uneducated and witless to move on. Romney is just damn lucky one of us bleeding heart animal lovers wasn't around to see the whole incident. God, I hate people who hurt animals and children...and old people, and handicapped people, and kids with glasses, and short people, oh, hell, you get the point.

Lighten UP !! Apparently you've never had dogs/ cats as pets .. And, unless a person can be good w/their pets, don't count on them being any considerate w/ people. It DOES give info on these bastards character/ personality, or, lack of.

Romney is still bs'ing his dog loved being on the car roof @ 60mph, or more.. I believe this was an Irish setter - they are quite nervous as a breed, surely didn't help poor doggie. I'd propose to strap Romney in a cage standing on his car's roof and drive along highways. Let's be generous, and get him bowl w/water and whatever windshield.. No sunglasses - the dog didn't have any !! Mitt is one cold blooded bastard !

Strawberry,
Who said killing animals was macho? I said it's part of a facade of machismo. It's also partially simple narcissism, I find that conservatism nearly synonymous with narcissism; everything is "they're taking my tax dollars" or "they're different than me, I don't like them."
I'm just saying that, in our fucked up, backwards society, it's not "manly" to care about animals. So naturally, these conservative goons who cream their pants over every Strong Male Authority Figure (i.e., any boorish, inarticulate asshole like Fred Thompson or Dubya), which is kind of, well, GAY, will feel like they need to prove their manliness by being uncaring and heartless when it comes to animals.

But yeah, I agree with you pretty much 100%. Well, except on the importance of this story, but I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree there.

Jesse, this little none story could sink Romney. There are a lot of lonely conservatives out there who have no one but there pets and Faux News to keep them company. Apparently even on conservative sites, he's getting bashed for this. That's why he pulled the false flag argument of being attacked by PETA. Ya gotta admit, if you look at it from that angle pretty cool. An end to a multi million dollar presidential campaign because of a dog! C'MON?!

Sociopaths abuse animals.

There should be their, damn. And I also need to say, it's a damned sad state when this alone could sink Mitt with conservatives. Double Gitmo, nah, flip flopping on abortion, nah, gay marriage, pffft. Harm his dog, lynch the bastard. Facists are a strange bunch.

Looks like a lot of wing-nuts are out today!
Is it any wonder we are in a mess in iraq, with this kind of mentality?

I don't know if Romney was being cruel on purpose. I think he was just demonstrating how fu*king stupid he was. Seems like the act of a person who can't think ahead about the outcome of what he's doing. Do we need a person as president who can't think through a plan and see the possible consequences. Sounds like the person who is president right now. No mas!

Wow the best you can come up with something from 1983. If this was a Democratic candidate you would be praising the Dem for how he or she tried so hard to protect the dog by erecting a wind shield.

If that is all you have, I am laughing. Make My Day!!!!!!

No, Bill Jackman, I would fault the person no matter the party. This isn't about politics, this is about humane animal treatment. Just because it happened in 83 doesn't make it right then or right now. It's a fact that doesn't change with age.

What happened to sticking to the issues!?

Barrett D, regarding what the poor dog did as a result of the fear he felt, this seems to be a somewhat sticky and smelly issue. I'll stick to it, but it won't be pleasant. ;)

CappuccettoRosso and Strawberry,

As far as treatment of animals go, we are on the same page. I would have been less upset if Romney strapped a relative to the car (lots of Vacation movie references here) than an animal. I am more defensive of animals than of humans, particularly because I believe they are more innocent and defenseless than we are.

Also, I agree that this behavior is indicative of Romney on a macro level, as well as many conservatives out there. I've already decided against Romney based on his inability to lead and his courting of the right. If I liked Romney, I would not use this incident to decide against him; as much as I am disgusted by it. I was disgusted by the affair Bill Clinton had with Monica, but I thought he was doing a (relatively) great job as the president and that was more important to me.

This story needs to be documented. Maybe discussed with some psychologists on a professional level. Maybe some jokes on Daily show. But watching the Countdown clip made me feel like we are approaching this story the way Fox news approaches a non-story; by trying to turn it into something bigger than it is.

CappuccettoRosso, as far as lightening up goes... No friggin way. I'm as easy going as one can be. Except with politics. Not with the state our country is in.

Laurie @ 18:

The cat killer? I can't even force myself to read about that.

Well, Laurie, better not read "Imperial Life in the Emerald City." This is from an interview with the author Rajiv Chandrasekaran about Dick Cheney's buddies at halliburton. It's even more upsetting when you read it in the book.

LAMB: This is from another Green Zone scene. This is scene 12. ”When Halliburton managers discovered the pets in their midst, they asked the Marines guarding the palace to shoot the cats on site, lest they spread illnesses.” Why is that in there?

CHANDRASEKARAN: Well, it was intended to help kind of describe some of the absurdity of the regulations in there. A lot of people who worked there homesick, had adopted feral cats. And they would feed them a little bit. It provided a fair bit of comfort to otherwise stressed out people in a war zone.

Yet Halliburton managers decreed that we don’t want any cats scampering about. And so, they issued an order for banning cats. So, what people did was they would sort of secret them away in their trailers and come take – steal a little milk from the lunch room and bring it to them.

But then Halliburton got wise to this and sent a bunch of cat killers on a search and destroy mission and went into peoples’ tents. And I recount how one woman, almost ready to return home, planning to bring the cat back with her, returned back to find a note saying her cat had been taken and killed and was sobbing in front of her trailer. It just – it seemed to be needless, gratuitous.

We need to get back to REAL NEWS like "What's happening at the Paris Hilton?"
Maybe we could discuss the "New York Holiday Inn";)

Below par segment from KO. Maybe trying too hard to be funny, and in this instance, not succeeding very well

it doesn't really matter when this happened. the romney campaign brought it back up for the article as a supposed example of romney's "good judgement" and "crisis management skills".

that's the important thing to realize here: this isn't some story a muckraking journalist dug up from the past that the candidate wanted to hide, it's a story the romney campaign willingly let out. it's entirely relevant to today and to mitt romney's judgement.

Mo's schtick is like a Wal*Mart version of comedy.

I totally disagree. It's a respect for life issue. Where does one draw the line? Who's to be protected and who doesn't deserve to be?

In India, the Jains wear face masks to avoid inhaling any organism and killing it. They also sweep the ground before they tread to make sure they've moved any bugs. Why? Respect for all life. If one only cares about the life at the very top of the pyramid... You figure out where that's going. Double Gitmo; torture away; invade other countries; decider of civil liberties, etc., etc. Halliburton has already built the internement camps. Has everyone forgotten? I'd think they intend to fill them.

And, yeah, that Olbermann piece was a bit lame. So was Mo.

Actually, I have nothing against Paris Hilton. In fact, I think she's brilliant. Did you know she made $7 million last year just for showing up at parties. Smart girl. I'd like a job like that (except I'd hate to be famous-- hermit here.)

You realize, of course, that if the Dems keep playing up this issue, the Republicans will use their NUKE, and bring out the picture of LBJ tearing his beagle in half by the ears.

I thought it was Santorum and his dog. Dobson also?

This is exactly what I would expect from right wingers without a clue. This is a non-issue, and there are various other meters to assess that Romney would make for a poor leader. Olbermann is becoming the O'Reilly of the left (though without the blatant lying, thus far), and while he can be brilliant, he prefers to use offensive rhetoric that strikes upon the same little things that the right is often accused of focusing on. Perhaps Olbermann is good for turning the ignorant mass more towards the left by employing tactics proven effective to their sway, but he's certainly not my cup of tea, especially with stupid segments like these.

I understand Leezzaa kept her pussy in a closet for years.

too bad he mentions Peta. they are a terrorist organization

even Penn and Teller expose peta as terrorists:

Why is my name and email required?

Hey Pops,
You said it. Can we get the message to Olbermann?

Where did Mitt's grandfather put his extra wives when he went off for a trip? Did he strap them under the wagon wheel? Anyone who would strap a poor animal in an open pet carrier for such a long trip is a sadist, should never be allowed to own a pet, and is definitely not presidential material. I'll bet Mitt has some mellamine stock in his portfolio.

I third Pops.

Sorry Olbermann, this post is unworthy of you. I usually agree totally with what you say, but this time you go over the top. You outght to edit your comments more carefully and not broadcast when you don't have anything meaningful to say!

Is Mo Rocca ever funny? I don't have any idea why Rocca gets any airtime.
